Or et Noir

I love, Love, LOVE this. But I admit, I was a little afraid because it is classed as a floral, which I usually despise. However, Oak moss is listed, so I think this more appropriately a floral chypre. Caron's urn pure parfums don't come out of the bottle favorably,in my opinion. You need to wait 30-60 minutes before you are rewarded. But oh my, this is one of the highest quality perfumes I've come across! You'll detect the rose immediately, but most of the scent wears like a plump, juicy, wet bouquet of indulgent florals. I will give this a few more wearings before deciding to buy or not, because in the past floral chypres wear well on me until my nose gets sick of the sweetness around wearing 3-4. But first impression puts this scent at the head of the class :-) (Edit: went ahead and bought, and I'm finding myself reaching for this one quite frequently, it's a favorite)

This is for the Parfum: It opens with a lovely Taif rose. It's not as creamy as N' Aimez Que Moi and a little sharper. It's has a very classic feel to it. After a little while the geranium comes out with a hint of carnation. The Taif rose is still dominant though. It has really great sillage and projection. The longer it warms up on my skin the more I adore it. As it continues to warm up the amber becomes divine. Then in the drydown I get oakmoss. Oh my, I love this oakmoss. The rose also gets a bit creamier in the drydown too. The sillage isn't too loud and the longevity is amazing.

(For pure parfum version.) It's more rose-y than rose itself. Fortunately, it doesn't have that strong indole note in many heady rose perfumes(eg. Une Rose), though still manage to keep its opulent feeling, not fake, not cloying. It fits all my expectation for rose yet not exactly a real rose, at least not the "fresh", "lightweight" ones. When coming to depict the depth of rose, it even exceed the "Rose" parfum from Caron itself. I gotta admit this is a miracle of the art of perfumery. Strongly recommended if you want a "soliflore" rose parfum.

Tried it a few times but it's too heavy and diva dramatic for me, not my idea of rose.. it is velvety and special though.

- Pure Parfum Review - This fragance is so concentrated and intense, smell almost metallic.. I resisted the strong sharp opening, waiting for the magnificent drydown, but it just switched from metallic Rose to sour Rose.. In extremely small doses this fragrance would be better. Anyway I feel a little disappointed about this one, Caron has Better floral Fragrances.
