Déclaration Parfum

I received Déclaration Parfum as a gift a few years ago. It was not on my wish list, and at first I did not expect much. However, right away it has quietly become one of the strongest pieces in my collection. Even though I own several niche fragrances, this one – together with Terre d’Hermès – is something I keep reaching for during the colder months. It simply works. It feels made for cold days and absolutely has a niche feeling. The scent is masculine and serious, dressed-up, yet at the same time cozy and rounded. There is a soft, almost melancholic warmth to it that makes it very comforting to wear. It feels mature without being old-fashioned, elegant without trying too hard. It is versatile in a subtle way: perfect for the office, but equally pleasant outdoors or during the evening. It never feels loud or aggressive, just smooth and enveloping. Even though sandalwood is not listed in the notes, I often get a creamy, woody impression that reminds me of sandalwood and gives that familiar, reassuring pleasure (maybe thanks to the cardamom??). I have never tried the original Déclaration, but this Parfum flanker honestly feels like an underdog. I rarely hear people talk about it, which is surprising considering how good and easy to wear it is. The bottle is also very nice – simple, elegant, and solid. The only downside is the cap/sprayer, which broke quite early (the moving part that is used to block the sprayer), probably because I tend to carry the fragrance with me to the office every day. Overall, a very good fragrance and a reliable cold-weather companion. Quiet quality, no drama, just consistent enjoyment.

It's taken me a while to finally sample this one and surprising too because although I don't own the original Declaration I have great affection for it's themes and it's place in men's designer perfumery. So to say this mirrors the original is completely accurate, in that it's a spicy affair with a fresh opening but that's where the comparison's end for one simple reason...genre. They are essentially the same fragrance done in different genre's. The original is a fresh, citrus Eau de Cologne type fragrance with a juniper sharpness and quinine feeling of a freshly poured G'n' T. In fact this is some kind of sorcery whereby botanicals with cumin/cardamom are infused into the spirit, giving this thorough yet at the same time, airy effect. This parfum version is not just a cranked concentration but an oriental re imagining, abandoning the fresh feel of the original declaration for what I would consider a much more complimentary and expected resinous base. This is beautiful with the cumin spice, giving a sort of smooth, suede leather effect, some cleaner aspects because It can't go too avant garde after all. I need to test it again properly but I thought it was fantastic, faithful to the original Declaration but way more up my street in terms of it's resinous quality. I want a bottle simple.

My second most complimented scent, ever. Second only to Versace Pour Homme. Go figure. With that, no lie, i had random women complimenting me. Once, early in the morning, while on my way to work, a woman emphatically uttered: “You smell divine!”. Nothing since has garnered that many compliments or that type of reaction. This happened when it first was released, as I’ve always purchased different smelling things and got it in the latest and greatest. Declaration Parfum, on the other hand, is no slouch either. Albeit, i haven’t worn this in years. I wore this one night and had this extra bad woman at Barneys NYC’s fragrance section (i LIVED in that place) say, also emphatically: “what IS that???” with this infatuated, dreamy eyed, look. Remember, this while in, at the time, the purveyors of the most niche offerings in NYC (more than Bk’s Twisted Lily’s, the old Oswald’s and MiN NYC.). You can imagine how wonderful that area smelled and she singled me out (the 5 or so sprays i was wearing [🫠] certainly played a role, too). Although, once i told her it was from Cartier, this look of embarrassment came over her face. Undoubtedly a niche snob 😆 Any how, Cartier’s best mainstream offering in my estimate.

I have the original EDT, Essence and now the Parfum. I love that these fragrances are so related to each other, not a random flanker that doesn't feel apart of a concept or presentation. I didn't love the EDT when it first came out, I was too young (or maybe my nose was) and couldn't get past the cumin in the upfront. I only loved it later, after splurging on Bigarade Concentre, Elena's similar take on fresh for Frederic Malle (and significantly more expensive). I picked up Essence because it was cheap on a discounter, and loved that too - like wearing a different style shirt from the same designer that you love. I sampled but didn't care for d'un Soir. Then came Parfum. Its the fabulously cut blazer from the same designer you love. Elegant, elevated, more formal. It doesn't scream like a lot of Parfum formulations, but lasts forever on me with a quiet hum. It may not be niche but it feels luxe and expensive to me, but not in an ostentatious way. Its one of the few scents I wear that I get compliments on - its never 'oh what are you wearing' but 'wow you smell nice.' I like that - I don't want to immediate telegraph that I'm wearing the latest niche with room-clearing sillage.

Scent: 10 One of my favorite scents. I can smell a great mix of cardamom, bitter Orange, spices and leather. I find It very elegant and intense atte the same time. Longevity: 9 This perfume is very long lasting on my skin. I use It usually to go out at night and It lasts the whole night. The Next day i can still smell It on my clothes. Sillage: 8 Not a beast fragance but intense enough yo use It as a night and party perfume. Price/quality: 6 I bought It for 65€/50ml. This is not bad price but It is a little bit above other similar fragances (Opium homme edp 49€/50ml or black orchid edp 100€/100ml) and above other fragances of the same brand (l'envol edp 60€/100ml or declaration edt 50€/100ml). Versatility: 8 It seems to be an elegant perfume, suitable for elegant events and perfect to wear with a suit. And this is true but this perfume works and performs very well un othee different situations like going out at night (because of his intensity and the Power of the cardamom) or yo wear with a leather jacket to go for a coffee at evening. I think It is better with cold weather and never at midday, overall in su ner or spring. Global: 9

Finally! Declaration makes sense. I struggle with the original. It's a great concept and deserves its place in fragrance history, but I always feel the powerful oriental spices of cumin and cardamom overpower the more subtle citrus and woods. The taco seasoning/B.O. note of cumin just sits a tad too far forward in the composition for me to enjoy it. Enter Parfum. The cardamom/cumin accord now sits nestled in a cradle of leather and resins with a more prominent cedar note. The spices blend much better in this setting, balanced by the deeper, richer notes surrounding them. For me, Declaration established an original and compelling idea, though somewhat jarring. Unlike many houses who churn out needless flank-a-thon cash grabs, Declaration is a fragrance that actually benefits from flankers, variations on an original theme that better flesh out the concept. For example, Declaration L'Eau is a much better fresh rendering with citruses brought forward and the cumin dialed way down. Parfum is a great improvement in blending and setting for the spices. These put the original DNA in more cogent contexts. Well done, Cartier!

From the first sniff, i didn't even need to check it to know this is made by the same nose who created Pasha Parfum. While the fragrances are very, very different, the same bold, classy, sophisticated approach to perfumery is unmistakable. The opening, compared to the original Declaration, have greatly tamed the blast of spices and aromatics, and have replaced the sharpness with a smooth bitter orange note that sort of reminds me on its own of the opening of TDH. The middle notes, while the bitter orange is still there, it is all about the cardamom and cumin gently giving way to the balsamic, ambery base. This is a scent for the adult, grown up, put together man who wears long coat in the cold days, and frequently visits business conferences in 5 star hotels and classic Gentleman's clubs in the city. It's target audience couldn't be any more far removed from the "mass pleasing, compliment gathering, sexy, panty dropper" crowd that is typically prayed upon by the affiliate code pushers on Youtube. Absolutely love it. This is a style of perfumery you simply cannot get from 99% of the designer brands today.

Bitter orange, then dry airy spices, warm and radiant and sweetened only to the point where the spice loses its edge. Dries down mildly animalic and warm resinous. To me the original felt a little thin and sparse, too dry without sufficient warmth to balance it out, the Iso E boosted bitter orange and rose felt stretched to its limit. In the Parfum, Ellena's spartan minimalist approach is further elaborated on by thickening the top and mid, while keeping the base low on musk allowing for a radiant structure, but one that feels smooth and rich, where the reliance on Iso E is less apparent. It gives the impression of freshly ground spice in a pestle and mortar where their aromatic facets jump out and reach your nose while you are still grinding, but supported by the right amount of warm benzoin, woods and balsams from below. It still feels quite austere like the original, but less so and could potentially now be worn by a well dressed 30 year old not just the older crowd. Impressive, arguably the best warm spice aromatic in the market currently.

Declaration Parfum is a spicy, woody and amber fragrance. The opening is loaded with dark spices with a charming accord of cardamom and black pepper, as well as balsamic notes due to benzoin and tolu balm and I even found an almost acidic woody touch, as if it had oud. As it develops, part of the DNA of the Declaration line emerges, with a subtle cumin, cedar wood and also a leather accord, which were already shown from the original Declaration. Once it reaches its drying phase, it leaves an aromatic and sensual smell of slightly salty amber. Declaration Parfum is the dark and amber version of the original EDT from 1998, ideal for use during autumn and winter, both day and night, formal or special situations. With me its longevity reached 8 hours, but in clothes it lasted more than 12 hours, it has a regular sillage, at least noticeable to those around you. I already liked the EDT version and I really liked this one too. It's a shame that it practically causes my wife rejection.

This is the first time I've ever reacted to a fragrance with audible amazement. Having recently tried several incumbents of the woody, spicy genre - namely Héritage (current formulation) and Rocabar (vintage) - I concurred that neither of these - albeit fantastic compositions in their own right - would suffice as my 'signature scent'. So when I came across the Declaration EDP 2 days ago, and discovered that it was a woody, spicy, intensified take on the original, I immediately devoured every review, both written and recorded, available on the Surface Web. Cut to 2 days later (today) and I am admiring the craftsmanship of the bottle, unlocking the latch, and releasing a single, life-changing mist into my room. My God. I was about to write that I was speechless, but that would simply be untrue. I uttered instead, and much to my dismay, the simultaneous expression of confusion, shock, and love. In other words: not bad. 9/10

one of the best releases of the last years. it is a real improvement of the good declaration edt. the parfum is better, more refined and well-blended, less fresh-spicy compared to the original. in the edp the woody and leather notes are mixed so nicely, the scent is smooth and classy. in the opening there's a nice orangy taste but the notes i love more in this juice is the suede and a soft, modern oakmoss that give balance and elegance. i think it's better to use it for nightout or dates in any season but summer. the performance is not so bad as someone says, the longevity is for 5-6 hours with a good projection for at least 1,5- 2 hours. it's very unique and underrated, it deserves more hype for sure. fantastico profumo elegante! scent-8,5 long-7,5 sillage-7,5 versatility-8 uniqueness-8 bottle-7 compliment factor-7,5 my vote-8,5 in one word-suede alternative- chanel allure homme

I absolutely love this, it's been a very long time since I wore the original Declaration, and this brought back memories, the original composition is still there, but this is all in all a very good reimagining. I truly get all of the notes listed, it is a very warm spicy fragrance, that for me will be perfect throughout the winter months, it perhaps lacks some of the freshness associated with the original, but this is a very deep, intense fragrance. There is a waxy ginger note throughout that I utterly love. There is definitely a parfum trend on the men's market, and some of them suck, but this one is very, very good. Projection is moderate, but longevity was about six hours. I don't often pick up a bottle on first spray, but here I had to. It reminded me just how good the house of Cartier is. On clothes, this has lasted over two days.

Autumn vibe at it's best. You'll wish autumn never ended. It opens with an incredible bitter orange note, with a light cedarwood vibe, due to the bitter-sweet feel. At first you will whiff the clash between bitter and sweet. Then his majesty the cardamom rises to dominate, along with the spices, and the fragrance sweetens. Later on, the tolu balsam and the benzoine, along with traces of the cardamom close the symphony that lasts for at least 10h Projection and Sillage is exactly how should be; not too much, definitely not to little. For fall: 10/10 Forget about the over-hyped Fall Top lists. This is something else. Fit for the better of us, for the real gentlemen only. Unfortunately I started wearing this at a funeral in November, and every time I apply it it reminds me of that unhappy event. Signature Fall Fragrance

This is my first perfume purchase. I have graduated from old spice and axe with this nice parfum. I smelled the EDT of this once and found that I enjoy the cumin / animalic and then did a blind buy on this one. No regrets I like this fragrance and how it blends with me. To me it smells like a sweaty tiny byzantine church on a summer wedding day with no AC. I like this smell and for me it is an all the time appropriate smell. However.... spray appropriately! lol. The EDT is in the mail and I am smelling good. Declaration is a great line of smells. I realized that I do pluck and sniff plants as i walk in the hills and mountains. Sometimes crushing them and other time gently bending the leaves. Id say it is an interest of mine. I love smells. Maybe I can learn more. Nice to find a website of other smell nerds.

I am an ardent fan of the original Declaration, which I consider one of the greats in the pantheon of masculine fragrance. It has also stood the test of time, and remains just as relevant and fresh as it was when it first came out. I have gone through 2 bottles, and it is my go to in warm weather, when I need something fresh. This Parfum version is just as good as the original, but deeper, spicier, less sparkling which makes it far more wearable in the cooler months. It also feels more appropriate for evening wear as well. This is really quite gorgeous, and different enough from the original to warrant a full-bottle purchase. I wouldn't be surprised it this shares some of its base note aromachems with Gucci Guilty Absolute -- which translates to a longer lasting, linear, woody fragrance.

Labeled 'Parfum' - clearly for the most snobbish of us (perfumerywise... or not?!), in search of a male offering at this concentration - it caught my eye after LT's description of it being a 'balsamic cardamom'. This really sums up all its beautifully faceted parts: It manages to flawlessly and surprisingly naturally follow, as only Opium did, the thin line between oriental-balsamic and woody-spicy. Opium-clones such as Yves Rocher's Ispahan used a trick of a flowery top to stay afloat. Declaration Parfum is a natural and native in this respect and pulls it off creating the effect of an abstract chypre out of its oriental constituents. That is a reversed Vol de Nuit kind of a sorcery! All my admiration to Mathilde Laurent and her Guerlain school of thought!

I have been a fan of (almost) everything Declaration, and I own or have owned every flanker. This one is closest to Declaration Essence in that it tones down the citrus, and increases the spice (including cumin). Longevity is great, and sillage is normal (I don't like gassing out everyone with my cologne). If you didn't like the cumin (some think it smells like body odor) of Declaration, you won't like this one. I understand why some can think that way, but I don't get the vibe on myself. I like this and I own it along with the original, and Fraiche. In fact, I would put these three in this spectrum, going from light and citrusy on one end, and spicy on the other: Declaration Fraiche - original Declaration - Declaration Parfum Get a sample before buying!

A richer and deeper experience of major original notes, particularly the bitter orange highlight and enhanced spices, added noticeable tolu balsam and wood aromas, which really vamp-up intensity. A truly lavish, sumptuous experience; shines in special occasions and has some warmth and sensuality as well. Perhaps best suited for tweener months and nights, but good year-round in A/C environments. Delivers true elegant sophistication and substance, with its own distinct personality. Longevity is good while projection could be better, though it leaves a nice scent trail. Same as with all other Declarations, I do not get any BO, just Asian spices. If you don't either, I'd like to submit that this is one of the best high-class scents out there.

Honestly I love this. Was at the Cartier counter and liked but didn’t love until I sampled this. It was a little strong at first, but what a stunning fragrance. It smells so unique compared to all the department store generic fragrances. Opens with a deep subdued citrus, mature, a little spicy. The cardamom definitely comes through. I don’t detect a lot of cumin like the others. I absolutely love this. However, I wished it lasted a bit longer. I wore it to dinner tonight and felt like nothing was left after a few hours and that was on my clothes. Perhaps it needs to mature a little. But otherwise, if you like spicy citrus scents, this is a must buy. Dried down slightly sweet and powdery.

Starts out spicy bitter orange and a hint of soap. I was immediately impressed as I've never smelled anything quite like it. Woodiness emerges with a hint of citrus. The orange is there but is being smoothed out by wood and further diluted by the spices. Very well crafted. Mature and sophisticated fragrance. Dry down is: woody and resonous. The bitter spice remains present. All the way dried down a hint of ginger. Season: fall and winter for sure. Projection is strong and longevity is good. The vibe: Makes you feel like you got a promotion. There is a combination of sophisticated elegance and a small element of what I can only describe as aggression

Wonderful parfum!! Bitter orange opening is so interesting- dirty, yet sophisticated. The cumin note is blended in and follows through the middle. It is somewhat spicy, a little earthy and sweaty but, is very sensual and pleasant. The dry down I really like - it is a very earthy, leathery, cedar finish. It stays intimate and sensual and still has some projection. I am a Sauvage EDP guy normally but this contends as a new normal!!! Yes, It does smell like a wooden boat load of bitter oranges and dirty pirates in leather as a previous review mentions but, in a good way!! Overall, I love it!!

Nose Note #618 Cartier Declaration is one of my favourites. This is my third Cartier Declaration. The OG, Essence and this. I was expecting something else, but it's essentially just like the original, except the spices are really heightened up and I'm afraid I don't like this choice. Now it smells even more like spicy Doritos. I like the OG and Essence more, they are more fresh and citrusy to my nose. But in the sillage you will probably not smell any difference between the three. Just like the others - performance is wonderful. 8/10, better stick to the old guns, this 2018 can't top it

Men - Roadster. That's all needs to be said. That's the way a man should smell. I adore anything Mathilde Laurent creates. Her "little jewels" as she calls them are magnificent. I will wear Declaration in rotation though currently my preferences are Pasha De Cartier Limited Edition with the perfect Les Heures Voyageuses Oud & Santal spritzed on my chest. Next purchase will be Les Heures De Parfum XIII La TreizIeme Heure. I want this woman's autographed picture. She's the greatest perfumer of all time. Update: Declaration on neck, Clive Christian X wrists and elbows....Magnifique.

Cartier Declaration Parfum (2018) - spicy cedar - @mathilde.laurent has perfected the construction of the original with this version. You still get the same essence of Ellena’s creation: bitter orange, cardamom, cumin on a cedar and vetiver backbone. In this perfume however, she has filled up the minimalism in the previous construction with leather and smokey resins. The spices have also become more rounded and less sharp. Cumin in the previous was too strong? give this one a try. Reminds me of spicy pencil shavings, leather jackets and indian spice jars.

Im wearing this parfume at this moment. This is so beautiful parfume and i can wear this anytime. It is suprise me, when i wear it I didnt smell masculine. I asked people comment about this parfume on me, many people think this parfume is woman floral parfume. It's Skin parfume. People wouldnt notice whe you walk pass them but will smell it when they stand arround you. Longevity 8/10, sillage 7/10 So ladies dont have any doubt if you want to wear this man parfume with you, no masculine smell Just wondering what would it smell on man skin?

This is the ultimate nutmeg heaven. Somehow it recalls the original edt formulation (before watered down batches galore) with a nutmeg note in a high pitch and a deeper woody character. I have also see a high likeness to Kenzo Jungle for your reference although Declaration DNA is clearly respected. As an EDP I think it's a bit mellow since I tested L'envol (also EDP and also Cartier) at the same time and longevity and projection have nothing to do. Despite this, it goes directly to my wishlist.

If you grew up in the Middle East, these scents are definitely not unfamiliar to you. I don't know exactly which spices but at least I detect some cardamom in this composition. You have experienced these aromas in sweets and spices and various spaces in the Middle East. In my opinion, this perfume has completely masculine characteristics, but at the same time, it can easily be unisex Overall, it feels authentic to me. On the other hand, I can imagine people who hate it, but I love it anyway

Bravo Mathilde Laurent! You have done a great job with this EDP of Declaration. It is still Declaration, and not a completely new scent. It's more spicy and woody, and most of the freshness is gone. It reminds me a bit of Declaration Essence, but less animalic. As a spice fan, I really love this one. Longevity, very good. Sillage, moderat. This could have been niche. A very successful release from Cartier! 9/10 Ps: If you don't like the regular edt, you will not like this one eighter!

Great! Amazing spicy tea scent I didn’t knew I wanted. I don’t agree with the reviews here about this being a fall/winter fragrance only. This is versatile, The refreshing tea nature of it works well in the summer heat, but it also have a warm depth that works well in fall/winter. day or night. Maybe I just wished it lasted a little longer, on the 7th hour mark it becomes barley noticeable on skin.

Superexcited waiting mine to arrive,after sampling it...i had the original many years ago,and it sure brings some memories back.I’ve never repurchased it,but when I got my hands on the parfum version,I just had to have it again in my collection,after all these years.The original cumin DNA is definitely here,immediate olfactory flashback,amped up.I’m glad you’re back,my dear friend:)

The Parfum version is fantastic! Very classy. I love the original Declaration and this one is a great addition to that collection, that scent DNA is still definitely there, it’s still noticeably Declaration all the way. It’s just toned down the citrus side and lifted the spices but in a smooth refined way, once again I’ll mention the word classy here, very classy. Beautiful scent!

I got a sample in an online order and I would consider buying this for myself (I'm a woman) if it would have better lasting power. If anyone knows a similar scent (I predominantly smell cedar and I love it), please let me know! Edit: was my nose broken when I wrote this review? Two sprays have gotten me through +12 hours of beautiful, dry woody fragrance. What a masterpiece.

I tested this flanker today at a department store. I was really impressed. Amazing, luxurious, deep, mysterious masculine fragrance. This exceeded my expectations big time. It has the perfect balance of woods and spices. Difficult to not appreciate in my opinion. I will wait till it gets discounted though. Great release by Cartier. Eau de parfum flanker done by the book.

Love this "new" release from Cartier. It has definitely more class than the original Déclaration, more mature, spicier and woodsier. The original is more a spring/summer scent, this one can be worn year round or for the colder weather if you ask me. Great release altogether.

Tried this at Macy's the day it came out. It was love at first sniff. I very rarely pay retail for a fragrance, but idk if I can wait for this to make its way to the discount sites. Very cedery, I just tried layering CH Men Prive with this. So far I like it

I get something between Dior Homme Original and Terre D'Hermes. Extremely high quality for that price point... Unbelievable high standard! To me smells niche. Love this juice. Very gentlemanly and sophisticated.

Love this fragrance. Very gentlemen-ly. I personally get a bit of a soapy vibe and I'm wondering where it's coming from, is it the orange or the Tolu balsam, which frankly I'm uninformed what exactly is...

I guess I'm getting my third Declaration! So different from the original, and I definitely smell a smoother DNA here similar to Habit Rouge EDP, which I love, but can be a bit sharp over the HR foundation.

Beautiful, musky, slightly animalic perfume. Does not last on my skin. Have to reapply 5 of times through a day. Great, but weak.

Gorgeous scent. Warm, classy, spicy and peppery. One of my all time favourites. Performance is not excellent, but it's good.
