L'Heure Osee V

Mathilde Laurent is one of my favourite perfumers, and I'm particularly taken with her work on Cartier's《 Les Heures 》. Each seemingly simple scent in this collection aims to evoke a Proustian memory, and L'Heure Osée V is no different. Roughly translated as "the daring hour", it is in fact a rather wearable, realistic pink rose soliflore. But it is the opening that really grabbed my attention and called to mind a Proustian childhood memory. V opens with a softly sweet, deeply familiar aroma I initially couldn't place. It smells almost exactly like the soft, squishy, white underside of a jelly sweet, namely of the Haribo variety. There is a strawberry-flavoured heart-shaped jelly with said pillowy white underside that was my favourite as a kid, and together with the jammy rose that follows, this is what springs to mind. Similarly, the white of the fried egg-shaped sweet. There is a fruitiness here too. This remarkable opening gives way to a beautiful, photorealistic rose note, pink and fresh, reminiscent of petals being crushed between my fingers. This in turn evokes another childhood memory - making "perfume" in the garden from a long-dead rose bush by crushing the petals between my fingers to "release the juices" before soaking them in a jar of water where they would inevitably wither, turning the water earthy and yellow. The rose here becomes slightly sweet and jammy as it develops, light yet full-bodied. It becomes increasingly powdery as it progresses, fading to a soft vanilla skin scent. Sillage and longevity are moderate. At face value, V is a simple, good-quality rose soliflore, feminine-leaning in my opinion. For me, Mme. Laurent has once again managed to harness the power of scent in order to bring to mind precious memories. Remarkable. 4/5.

This is a beautiful, female-leaning fragrance. It smells like potpourri with dried rose buds. Very much like what Laura Ashley stores used to smell like in the 80's and 90's. It's a gentle, romantic, and nostalgic rose scent. If I close my eyes, I envision rose tea being served in delicate porcelain on a laced doily, poetry readings in an English garden, pressed flowers in an old diary, something maternal and comforting. It's understated in every way, but very elegant.

Searching for an ultra feminine fragrance that’s almost soliflore or single note? Well search no more! This one strikes the perfect notes of sweetness and yet doesn’t fall under gourmand sugary sweetness. I adore its simplicity. The uncomplicatedness. Sometimes in a world that is complex, analytical and judgmental.. this lovely bouquet quietens the mind..

Although rose is the only listed note, this is a very fruity (melony) scent

Unfotunately this fragrance is a huge miss for me☹ On my skin it smells sickening, like rotten fruits and wilted flowers. I tried to find beauty of roses in this perfume, but it’s just too sweet and overwhelming and makes me nauseous. Disappointed...

L'Heure Osée V Cartier: The Pure, Elegant Rose I’m never disappointed by Cartier or their perfumer, Mathilde Laurent. In my opinion, Cartier is one of the most underrated houses; they easily beat out most other designer and niche brands. L'Heure Osée V is, without a doubt, a rose fragrance, and the quality of the rose used here is top-tier. To my nose, it has a slightly sweet and "delicious" quality—it's so inviting that I almost want to DRINK the juice! It feels incredibly pure and elegant. In fact, it reminds me of a BRIDE; I think it would be the absolute perfect scent for a wedding day. Rating: 7.5/10 (A high-quality, delicious rose that feels like a special occasion.)
