Must de Cartier Pour Homme

I found 100ml of this by complete coincidence in a perfume shop for a crazy low price and had to take it. I tried it years ago from a vintage/discontinued decanter and loved it, but not enough to pay $200-300 for a bottle. However, I have to say I'm so glad to have found a bottle for a cheap price, because this is sooooooooo good. I'm not the biggest Cartier fan in general. I've had and tried various of their scents over the years and none of them really clicked with me; I find them to be good, but a tad too austere and conservative for me, the exception being Declaration Parfum which is fantastic. This too is somewhat austere and conservative, in line with the brand's ethos, but I vastly prefer this scent profile to anything else currently on offer at Cartier. It is absolutely beautiful. As many have pointed out, it is from the same late 90s/early 2000s lineage as Envy, S.T. Dupont Signature, Carven Homme, Fath Pour L'Homme, Givenchy Pi, and even L'Instant de Guerlain. That is to say: warm, spicy, sandalwoody orientalish masculines with gentle souls. To wear these fragrances is pure comfort food for me. I admit that it is pure, rose-tinted nostalgia on my part. Wearing these scents reminds me of growing up in the 90s and fills me with an inexorable yearning for the past and for better times. When I smell this I'm reminded of cool October nights when I was a kid when my parents left the door open to let in the autumn air, mingling with the scent of the fire in the hearth and fall candles. We're watching Xena: Warrior Princess, Seinfeld, or the X-Files. Later I'll go play Majora's Mask on my N64. Life is good. This scent embodies that feeling of calm and warmth and optimism that imbued the 90s and it hurts man, it hurts. Anyway, diatribe aside, this genuinely is a beautiful scent, even if you're not waxing nostalgic. The opening is stunning, with that unique and delicious blend of citrus, STRONG anise (like, you can really tell it's anise), and olive leaf. What fascinating mix! And luckily, that sort of green, anisic tone remains throughout the life of the fragrance, even as the smooth, spice-flecked oriental drydown begins to emerge. Creamy sandalwood a la Dolce & Gabbana's By dominates, blended seamlessly with spice and vanilla and coumarin, but like most fragrances from this era, no one note (other than sandalwood) comes to the fore. Scents from this time were all about creating a mood, a vibe, an atmosphere. There wasn't this obsession with individual notes, like "Sandalwood Musk" or whatever crap. Sure, it was marketing, pure and simple, but how evocative are the names "L'Instant de Guerlain" or "Alien" or "Iquitos" or "Fahrenheit" compared to "Vanilla Lavender"? "Must de Cartier" sounds much more elemental. This scent perfectly embodies that mystique, and the mood it creates is pure sophistication. This smells smart, gentlemanly, soft, and kind, but there is something sensual about it as well. Like a French Classics professor in a tweed blazer that you take home for some romantic loving in your 90s apartment. The opening I think is the most "dated" part of it, mostly due to the carnation, which inevitably ages a perfume for me, but otherwise, this does not smell like some stuffy old man scent at all. It's warm, rich, slightly sweet, slightly spiced, and beautiful. I see it as an almost dark academia-esque scent, but it's not dark, it really does smell like some handsome, mid-30s intellectual, kind, sophisticate, gentle man who loves old books, dresses impeccably, and wears horn-rimmed glasses. As someone who's in his early 30s, this is exactly the kind of vibe I'm looking for right about now. It's the kind of vibe we need more of in this world, damnit! Performance is likewise sort of soft, especially the projection, but it's actually pretty long-lasting (6-8 hours) and blends lusciously into skin. This ain't no screamer and I don't want it to be. It's a scent to be discovered. Like a warm hug from that soft, beautiful, kind man with smiling eyes. He can quote me Byronic poetry and talk at length about ancient Egyptian history all day long, I won't complain. I may or may not be developing a man-crush on that guy. Anyway, if you're here, reading this review, on the Fragrantica page of Must de Cartier Pour Homme, you're not a person who is obsessed about getting compliments or performance anyway; you're here because of nostalgia and because you have damn fine taste. So, yes, this is absolutely lovely, it is beautiful, gorgeous. However, I would still not advise you to pay $200-300 for a bottle. I think there are other scents in the same category that do a similar job. Hell, it kind of even reminds me of Costume National Homme (though this is much less spicy), which can be had for much cheaper. L'Instant de Guerlain EDP is also in a similar ballpark and also easier to come by. But if you happen to find this in a second-hand perfume shop on offer on the cheap - absolutely go for it.

Long discontinued, and difficult to find, I bought my bottle on EBay ten years ago at an inflated price, and that has now nearly tripled. I have the original red top bottle with the grey box. This is a smooth and classy scent that smells like it’s punching above its weight class. The anise note in the top gives it a luxurious licorice scent. It has a bright, citrusy opening that is very well blended. This has a high end tanning lotion kind of vibe that lacks the coconutty scent that comes with those type of fragrances. It smells like someone who just played golf at an expensive country club. A smooth ginger and cinnamon heart takes over as it dries down, leading the way for the sweet creamy sandalwood, tonka and musk base to come out. At this point the tanning lotion vibe is mostly gone and is replaced by a refined sweet musky light woodsy licorice scent. There is a touch of powder to this stage too. There is an understated elegance to this fragrance, as it sits fairly close to the wearer, but you will get whiffs of it around you as you move around though. This does not project well, but is noticeable within arms length. It has great longevity on me though - I get 5-6 hours of an arm length scent bubble, and another 4 or 5 as a skin scent radiating a few inches above my arm. This is more than enough to make it through a work day with a normal amount of sprays. This is a perfect scent to dress up, as it smells expensive and classy. As usual, Cartier has created a fragrance that is both mass appealing and accessible. While it is not easily acquired anymore, it is worth seeking out to experience its smooth, creamy, licorice lotion vibe. It gives me hints of Lolita Lempica au Masculine, another anise based fragrance that is discontinued, but this one is less harsh in the opening, and the dry downs are different. This is an easy fragrance to wear in all seasons, and can be a great office or casual scent. If you can find a 100 mls bottle for under $200 Canadian I say grab it. I am happy to have this one in my collection. Scent: 9/10 Longevity: 8/10 Sillage: 6.5/10 Bottle: 8/10 Overall: 8 Great for almost any occasion.

Must de Cartier Pour Homme is a scent that takes me to some bygone era. The type of scent you picture on classic writers or actors. Must is yet another one of those masterfully blended Cartier creations. The scent starts off with a very soft spicy floral sweetness. It is anise, ginger and carnation that set the gentle tone of this beautiful composition. As the opening notes settle, the ensemble feels almost powdery, but it never seems to really reach peak powder. As for the spicy notes, one particular note sticks out. Never has a cinnamon note been so perfectly folded into a scent; a spicy sweetness lingers but it doesn't jump out, it is a simple part of this cloud of ginger and anise. The vanilla note emerges from the opening mix and sets this really rich elegant sweetness. The scent hits its' full unique stride with the arrival and revelation of the olive leaf. WOW! What a different note. The vanilla when mixed with the olive leaf creates this unique green sweetness (Sounds weird but it is what I get.) The olive leaf takes that slightly powdery, green sweetness towards this earthy fresh muskiness. The tonka, patchouli, vetiver and cedar help the transition of that lovely vanilla note and green sweetness into a slightly woody spicy scent all while maintaining the richness of the olive leaf. I love this scent. It is very much the style of scent I enjoy, it is classy and subdued but perfectly retro. The notes of this composition are blended incredibly well. This scent is ideal for fall through spring and can be worn in the office or for just a day out wearing. Must to me is a mediterranean style of sophistication, and is truly unique.They truly do not make scents like Must anymore. Must screams well dressed gent with a lot on his plate, but he still wants to stand out yet seem like he can't be bothered, just like this fragrance; Effortlessly cool.

This is absolutely gorgeous! Must de Cartier pour homme came from the early 00 and it's totally different from the current offering. anise, mandarin, coriander, carnation, vetiver, cinnamon, sandalwood...a perfect blend, a bit oriental but in a french way, i hope you know what i mean..elegant, refined, never pushy: must is for a gentleman, no dubt about it. personally i get the connection with Gucci envy or other parfumes of that era. Better for winter and fall, with the right outfit and for 30-35 and up. Average performance. Sadly discontinued but worth checking out. Elegance in the most gentle way possible! Like Luca Turin said in his book "A temple that smells like a brothel". I think this describes in such a perfect way what this fragrance is. It opens up with a little bit of anise, olive leaf and carnation. Very creative and unique! Fresh floral, oriental (Jaipur homme is a refference although is completely different). I think that coriander is there too but is just a tiny bit of it. After 1 min, we get a little bit of ginger too. In this stage there's a fresh dirtiness that is so harmonious and sexy that i can identify as the "brothel" stage. After a few minutes the cinnamon and anise (and a juicy grapefruit) take control of the fragrance. They will be together for half an hour. During that time, the grapefruit dissipates and after that, a beauty and creamy sandalwood says hello. The "temple" stage is here! The fragrance gets more dry and sweet and we will smell this woody anissed cinnamon for the rest of the lifetime of this beautiful fragrance. It's a great fragrance that offers a unique anise-cinnamon combo with sandalwood in the back. The performance is low to moderate (I get 4 to 6h on my skin with moderate projection in the first hour). It's unfortunately discontinued but if you can find a good deal on it, grab a bottle (or two) and enjoy this masterpiece!

Unfortunately, discontinued .. it has all the characteristics to be one of the most classic timeless fragrances..sad it's not available anymore. Very classy fragrance ..cool.. masculine ..one of the best. Average performance..true.. but the blend was amazing .. the kind that makes you keep sniffing the cap every day... I miss it ..this was the fanciest fragrance I had in my 20s. I really wish to find an alternative to this beautiful fragrance. I'll keep searching!.. I'll try to get/test the female versions because I can find them in the local stores.. hoping to make some mix and match maybe with CK obsession.. to make them more wearable for a man and to get closer to this classy perfume..who knows I might wear them as they are! NOTE: the only negative review that I can understand about this fragrance is the average performance.. anything else is a BIG LIE ..this fragrance was perfect in terms of the blend and the smell itself...luxurious manly chique.

I'm so glad I bought this when I did, and I have not read the reviews below so I have no idea, but I think it may be discontinued. This fragrance must have been created Pre-IFRA. LOL! And I have no idea if it was or not, but the only reason I say this is that the dry down and cloud I get from it must come from way different aroma chemicals then what's in the department store fragrances these days. It really leaves the impression of a rich soft velvety cinnamon cloud. It is so refreshing to experience a fragrance all over again that doesn't smell like every other mass market scent like the generic ones these days. I have to say I can't paint all new scents with that brush. I also get beautiful dry downs from Parfums de Marly for example, which I have been trying lately. But man, they are harder to find in the world of sterile chemical companies. I guess deep down at heart I am a bit of a bad boy at heart, and enjoy some mild toxicity.

One of the reasons I didn't tried before this beauty is Must de Cartier pour Femme which my wife got as present and we both hated it, until it 'walked' away to her sister. Yesterday I've come across in local Sephora over a lost-on-the-rack tester of this (along with only one very expensive bottle) and gave it a try...Ohh my!... what an alluring and elegant smell!. Smooth cinnamon over an oily barbershop vibe (I think anise, olive leaf, cinnamon and ginger are masterfully blended in top-middle notes) lending to a not-so-sweet woody-oriental base ('dirty' Cartier's signature patchouli, musk, tonka, little vetiver, creamy sandalwood) which I liked so much. Rather average projection but pretty long-lasting and one of the best classic orientals drydowns in my book. Needless to say I hunted a big bottle online which will be a staple in my wardrobe. My rank 9.2/10 ☣☣☣☣☣. Highly recommended.

Bought this today. Basically used this website to whittle down what I would probably like, it came down to Estee Lauder Pleasures For Men, and this. Sprayed a bit of each on opposite wrists. Both were up my street and I would have bought either; though being thirsty went off for a cup of tea and a cigarette. Took my sweet time with my tea; in fact went back for more. Why did I buy this? Staying power. After an hour and a half this was still smelling sweet on me, Lauder had faded and died a silent death after 30 minutes (and thats before I had even had a smoke). Basically this is a lovely scent; I love it, Im 25, it smells great on me. Its not overpowering; yes it lasts for hours but its not blowing your nasal passages apart like some long lasting fragrances like Paco Rabanne's 1 Million For Men - which Ill admit Im not a fan of. But this; its awesome; go try it.

It's a masterpiece. Must de Cartier Pour Homme is one of the best from the house of Cartier. I blind-bought this hidden gem based on reviews. It smells so good and refined. Too bad it is discontinued ! It opens up with like fresh citrusy then it changes like slightly spicy and dry down is musky and woody. It's light and soft. Amazing scent from the opening to the dry down. This fragrance has a great unique composition , elegant, classy, luxurious and sophisticated. It perfect for the spring and fall. You can't go wrong with it. I really enjoy it and I love Must de Cartier Pour Homme. The Cinnamon, Anise and Vanilla notes are dominant in this perfume. Highly Recommended. Two Thumbs Up. A real pleasure every time I wear this cologne, I would say is exquisite, and hard to let go... I was able to acquire the one with the clear bottle, and red cap, but only a 50ml bottle, and also got the the 'essence' version in the green bottle, but does not compare with the original. Any way since I only have a small bottle of each it takes me a while to wear them, and any time I do, there's always compliments and I love to sniff myself during day, very nice, and it has a great performance, long lasting, more than 12 hrs. at least on me. Get one while you can, already discontinued but still can be found.

when I first tried this it was more of a like..i thought smells pretty good, but I was not wowed by it, but slowly it has moved up to the love category for me . I always get compliments when I wear it. it is a very pleasing scent that grows on you, it is definitely worth sniffing out. sometimes it takes time to warm up to a fragrance and that truly is the case with me on this one. nice stuff..i could see this working well in a formal setting but also not too bad in the office as well if you do not over apply I tried it because Katie puckrick said it smelled sexy on her fume finder page. glad I did.

I enjoy wearing this in winter time, it's so warming, the mix of ginger and cinnamon is so soothing and warm, it's lovely. It's not the best fragrance in terms of longevity, as it goes after about 4 hours (sadly.) There is something sweet in amongst the spice, in truth my nose can't detect it. It's one of those fragrances you spray on your wrist and you have to keep going back to, it's fairly complex, when it softens it becomes quite powdery and musky. Perfect for night time, just have an extra few sprays ;-)

This is one of the classiest fragrances in my collection. Anybody that moans about performance should know that not all fragrances are ment to announce your arrival into a room. What we have with Must de Cartier is a fragrance that is so refined, and blended so well that the quality speaks for itself. Imo fragrances are ment to be best enjoyed by the wearer, and if what you're wearing puts a smile on your face and makes you feel special then what more could you ask for! 10/10

Elegant and sophisticated as Vintage Cartier fragrances used to be. Must pour Homme doesn’t need to scream loud like todays “high end” perfumery with heavy Oud-rose-leather combos. It’s a more conservative and intimate fragrance, like wearing a Cartier Tank with a Ralph Lauren sweater. Yes indeed it resembles Gucci Envy but lighter and less oriental overall, more on the soft spicy side. They don’t do them like this anymore. A true masterpiece from Cartier.

I just picked up a vintage refillable travel spray set, box says 4 x 25 ml with a metal case, there are 3 left in the box. Not sure if these were sold in the U.S. I’m having a hard time getting much info on it at least with an image search. Anyway this is intoxicating!! I’m a female and totally gonna rock it (sparingly) this fall/winter. Excited to add this to my collection!

Masterpiece? Without doubt! This is my all time fave scent and I will never forgive Cartier for terminating it! First day buyer when they revive it, and they M-U-S-T ! Many notes going on in this, extremely well composed with the cinnamon playing the lead part. I can see any man wearing this, young or old. Real class and quality from Cartier.

Glamorous! Pure class in a bottle. Sophistcated, stylish, luxurious and elegant. A perfect attachment with a suit + tie for formal occasions, or as an evening scent for going out. A very unique and original scent. It can`t be praised high enough. I haven`t tried the essence version yet, but I will as soon as possible.

Vanillastorm40 Maybe the opening could push you away, because it has a quite old fashioned men fragrance vibe. But in 30 minutes it gets smoother and the cinnamon which is pretty well done starts to be the main note. I think a female could wear it, but I dont think is a good blid buy.

@Damu i just checked it on their website and they really reintroduce it exclusively in these 2x30ml travel sizes. I still own around 30ml of a 50ml bottle but i'm curious to see if this is in good shape or not. Declaration D'un Soir is also available in this format. Nice to see that.

This is such a lovely scent for men! Of course I love it so much, it's discontinued now, doesn't it always work that way?? This is a mature scent, but it's not "old man", it's just sophisticated and well done! It is warm and spicy, but stays close to the skin.

One of the best from Cartier House but unfortunately it was discontinued. I used this fragrance at least 7 to 8 years. It was economical and budget friendly. Still I am in love with him but it's not available in Pakistan anymore. Cartier should continue it.

@Heinrich_B it's weird because this is vey complex and interesting scent. i love it. Grapefruit, ginger, cinnamon, floral spicy and powdery. creamy woody base. It's fantastic actually. It could had gone bad. :(

No words can desribe how much I love this scent. It's amazing, soapy, clean and original frag. I feel like in heaven everytime I'm wearing that. I totally obsessed with main anis tone, which drives me crazy.

I love this fragrance and wish it was still in production. Very spicy and woodsy. It is multi faceted and much better than most of the current offerings for men. It's a mature scent, but sexy as hell!

Sophisticated spicy and aromatic freshy. Lovely anise opening with green aromatic and light citrus. Cinnamon mid note is very smooth with complex base. Moderate performance but very classy. Love it.

I have terrible news :( This amazing fragrance is no longer produced by Cartier! (along with Pantere and Le basier du dragon, Must II, So pretty) People are crazy, really crazy! :(((

رازیانه از نوت های مورد علاقه مه و در کنارش دارچین ، بنابراین با اولین اسپری به راحتی تحت تأثیرم قرار داد ، به نظرم در بین دیزاینری های هم رده اش عطر خیلی یونیک و خاصی محسوب می شه ، بادیان رومی که رایحه ای بسیار شبیه به رازیانه داره و نعنا که نقش خیلی پررنگی در این عطر داره حس عرقیجات و دمنوش مانندی رو ایجاد کرده ، اگر رایحه ی چای برگ زیتون به مشام تون خورده باشه متوجه می شین که ماست دو کارتیه دقیقا همین عطر رو داره که بسیار آرامبخش و اروماتیک و دوست داشتنی هست ، رایحه در میانه راه فضای پودری وانیلی و‌چوبی خیلی لایت و ملایمی پیدا می کنه که تا این جای کار در کنار نت های مرکباتی و سبز و همچنین زنجبیل تند و تازه ، بسیار خاص و منحصر بفردش می کنه که حالت اسموکی جالبی هم داره ، چیدمانی که مشابهش رو بیشتر در کارای نیش و گرون قیمت دیدم اما هر چقدر پیش می ریم باید با روی دیگر سکه مواجه بشیم!رایحه گرم تر وانیلی تر پودری تر و خشک تر می شه به شکلی که رول اصلی رو صندل وود و مشک بازی می کنن و اینجای کار حداقل برای من فاقد جذابیته ، مثل ابری سیاه که ناگهان جلوی نور خورشید رو می گیره فضا تغییر چهره می ده از شفافیت و روشنی کار کاسته شده و به عمق و تاریکی عطر افزوده و رایحه کهنه و کدر و کمی تکراری می شه ، شخصا این فراز و فرود رو نپسندیدم اگرچه شاید برای فرد دیگه بسیار خوشایند باشه ، به طور کلی از دیزاینری های فوق العاده ای هست که تا به حال برخورد داشتم ، اسپایسی و شیرین و گیاهی ، معجون آرامش و قرار ، با پوشیدنش انگار دنیایی رو به صلح و آشتی دعوت می کنین... درای داون عطر مجابم می کنه که فقط در هوای سرد بپوشمش ، پخش خوبی داره با ماندگاری مورد قبول ، به نسبت قیمت و سایر عطرای هم رده نمره بالایی می گیره و تستش رو برای دوست داران عطر واجب می کنه ارزش خرید 9 از 10 و نمره شخصی من 6/5 از 10

It is funny how different this smells to me compared to most of the votes and the reviews. From my bottle of Must de Cartier pour Homme I get basically a masculine skin scent with subtle spicy overtones. The base, which is almost the entire scent, to my nose is a gentle white musk and sandalwood with the merest whisper of something animalic keeping it from smelling like white musk soap, and touches of vanilla or tonka imparting some sweetness. Carnation and cinnamon contribute a soft spiciness, but they are not at all the first thing I notice. There is some anise and ginger in the top but they only last a few hours to my nose, or maybe I just adapt faster than most. I love skin scents for their subtle artistry and the fact that they are suitable for any occasion, and Must de Cartier PH is one of my favorites. (I just hope I don't smell like a spice bomb to everyone else when I think they can barely smell anything without burying their nose in my chest!) I have yet to find a skin scent that smells like a baby. If anyone knows of one let me know!

This is one of those very classic, oriental/spice Cartier scents that is a very safe bet for men, provided that you can handle the anise/coriander/ginger blast within. It's not overdone or offensive, but well-balanced against the other notes and nonetheless a signature. Once you're past that, it becomes a very powdery-soft composition. I'd easily say this is geared toward a male in his early 30's onward who feels comfortable with a more subdued statement in his wardrobe and isn't seeking citrusy sharpness or to be noticed for the wrong reasons. This will get the wearer noticed in a more positive light. That said, this is a fragrance that hasn't been getting a lot of love from me recently and I tend to find that it's one that I'll pass on in favor of other choices. While very good, it also isn't my first preference for something to wear that day.

Difficult to know where to place this particular scent in the fragrance spectrum. It gives of the equivalency of a musky / talc type scent that is actually quite heavy, despite its best attempts to mirror that new born baby but still masculine fresh arome. Its long lasting, and it radiates well. Because of the deceptive, lighter notes, its easy to put too much on and then it becomes overkill. Interesting scent overall, and perhaps an acquired smell, but if you're looking for something different, and you can still find a bottle, its worth your consideration. Seriously, Cartier was on fire in the early 2000's. I bought this off the back of a bottle of declaration and i was sold on the brand. Unique in a way that perhaps L'eau D'Issey is in today's market.

Must de Cartier pour Homme is a woody spicy fragrance, at first glance might remind Bvlgari pour homme blue (ginger is a known tremendously fantastic), but this perfume is also laden with floral notes that elude very imaginative and reappear in the bottom of overwhelming vanilla and earthy vetiver, warm fragrance is a mysterious and perhaps a little redundant, but a certain effect. I think it might be his best season in the autumn when the first cold with the scent of this fragrance will capture and enrapture our senses. Cartier creates masterpieces as always ...

Smells like black jelly bean. I didn't get the anise note straight away, but once I did, that's all I could smell. Imagine Armani Code, with the anise note ramped up to 11. No doubt there's like a spicy ginger tea in there as well, with some citrus acidity, but I can't get past the anise. I would have liked if they toned it down a bit. Still overall a pleasant scent, and couldn't be accused of being generic. Perhaps good for a man in the office who wants to stand out a bit while still smelling nice, and project a serious tone without being too formal.

This cologne initially appealed to me because of both its spicy middle and the vanilla in the base. The top of bergamot, mandarin and grapefruit fade nicely. The layering on this cologne is apparent. It smells complex. While this cologne smells very good on me--I have received several compliments--I don't think it lasts well. I've taken to using several (5) sprays rather than a few (3), which would be adequate with other colognes I prefer (such as Polo and Burberry London).

It's absurd how people are fascinated with just the brand names, and so find it wonderful. This scent is just nice. Nothing special, poor fixation and little sillagem. Not worth the price.

Hi Vanillastorm40 I agree with the other reviewer that a woman can wear it, though I find the ginger and cedar gives it an old-fashioned masculine vibe but everything else is so pleasing and unisex. I went searching for a slightly more feminine version of this and landed on No. 11 by William Eadon and Indigo by Ayala Moriel.

Opens camphorous and citric, gets warmer and spicier as it settles on my skin with a hint of vanillic sweetness, keeps the spice in a nice balance. Every season except summer works for this. My bottle is quite old, I really wish it was still in production because this is a great addition to any collection.

If you can survive the first burst of "new school style" coriander, anise and orange at the start , you will be delight with a very sophisticated gentleman gem... It can be sold even today as a niche fragrance... amazing work to be original and unique!!!

Similar to Montblanc presence, but better made and more citrus heavy, great juice and another one on the list of 'why again discontinue a good juice'. Worth a look if you can find it.

Alluring with its gentleness and warmth. For men who like pleasures, but not necessarily look for them in fights and constant competition.

I believe some fragrances are not meant to be worn in public a lot of fragrance enthusiasts agree on this this scent is made for cozy times with your loved ones Not something I enjoy wearing outside as well as not the fragrance that you would expect compliments from With that being said I enjoy it at home and on skin but I wasn’t impressed with wearing it on clothes when I went out This makes it limited to me which is not a problem in any way just not complete. Performance is good 7/10

The original Must de Cartier pour Homme is better than the Essence version. Must de Cartier has a sandalwood - anise smell with a drop of cinnamon and grapefruit. The scent smells like the year when it was released. A typical millenium fragrance with a herbal sweet touch. Nothing special but wearable, especially as a office fragrance. Projection is low, staying power is also about 5 hours.

Retro carnation can get a bit too sour. Suffocating when oversprayed but get smoother with time.

I don't know why i bought this one!!! And i used it only several times then i gave it to a friend of mine. Always every single time he gives me headache. My friend tells me that he likes this scent, but for me it is a terrible choice.

(my review originally appeared on basenotes) This is one of my absolute favorite scents ever. It is so thick, and luxurious, utterly elevated. Yet, I find it also very dark, and sexy. It has a sparkling deep green quality to it, like a thick and rare emerald. It is a definite oriental, slightly on the sweeter side. Every time I put it on, I feel like I should be walking around naked with heavy lidded bedroom eyes. It is, to me, that sensual. It is admittedly a quite cold, yet masterfully articulated, blend. The mix of these heavy and dormant old-world spices with the rich and energetic mandarin and bergamot is quite a magical surprise. It is a true elixir like no other. The opening is surprisingly loud and rich. It settles on the skin nicely. Anise is what makes the scent sweet I suppose, which you get to discover during the drydown. A little bit of woodiness is what anchors the scent to a mature ground. It is truly enthralling. Yet like I have said before, I find it to be very dark for some reason due to all the spiciness, and surprisingly cold even with all the cinnamon. Staying power, to me, is admirable. I am quite satisfied with the longevity and sillage as well. If you enjoy heavy scents with strong personality like Opium pour Homme, m7, Egoiste, Poison, Black Orchid etc., Must de Cartier pour Homme will be a great choice as well. It is skillfully blended; very elegant. A true jeweler's fragrance for an assertive and confident man. The bottle is fantastic and how the juice comes out of it is even better. (the heaviness of the spray cap just feels regal for some reason) So soignee and intimidating and godly... yet still human enough to wanting to get laid. The male Gucci Eau de Parfum, which is an equally cold Oriental Floral. PS: Discontinued now, which is an unforgivable crime of course, but I hope it will be brought back... hopefully without reformulating it beyond recognition.

This perfume was on a counter at a beauty products shop, and I could not resist getting to know it! I went into the store right away and asked the seller for the price: $76.80 a bottle of 100 ml., a pretty attractive price for a discontinued fragrance. I asked the girl at the store to let me try it, which she agreed to do rather begrudgingly and, before applying it, I was very excited. Seconds later...TA-DAAA! ..., the perfume had touched my skin. The first blow was persistent, but gentle--it was like a powdery version of Obsession For Men mixed with Bvlgari Blv Pour Homme, with a touch of anise and a rather modest intensity that beat all my expectations. An hour after spraying, you can still feel the scent, but very close to the skin. Must de Cartier Pour Homme is not a bad fragrance, not at all, but performance is really deficient for a perfume of the Cartier house, besides the fact that it did not captivate me. I must say that, on the contrary, I was disappointed. I think the bottle was produced between 2000 and 2008, and exposure to light and poor maintenance are likely to have taken a toll on its content, diluting all its properties. In short, it was nice knowing this creation, but I understand why it was discontinued--despite being an interesting proposal, it falls way, way short on the attributes that a good perfume must have. I would not buy it even if it cost 33%, or %25, of its selling price. To me, Must de Cartier Pour Homme is not a must-have (no pun intended). Sorry to be that honest, but that's what I think.
