Oud & Menthe

Mathilde Laurent does her mint thing again here (as she has before with great results in Guerlain's Aqua Allegoria Herba Fresca and with somewhat less great results in Cartier Roadster) & it is very natural, non-dental smelling mint. Unsurprisingly, given the name of the fragrance, the mint is blended with a clean, slightly medicinal oud. There is a warmth in the drydown here that may be the influence of an amber accord backstoping the oud. That is really all there is to Oud & Menthe. This scent is simple and elegant. Longevity is considerable and projection is never more than moderate. The presentation is luxurious in the manner of all of the Cartier oud fragrances. It is a very nice attempt to create a warm weather oud and for me, it works well. I wear this scent in all seasons and at night or during the day. Because of the aforementioned warmth in the late stages of this fragrance and the somewhat heavy nature of the oud, I do not reach for this scent on very hot weather days. Of course, the big issue with this fragrance is the high price. There are very few good warm weather oud scents and I love this fragrance on summer evenings. So for me, the price, high though it is, was alright considering the quality and uniqueness of Oud & Menthe. But I can understand arguments to the contrary, particularly given the simple, linear nature of the scent and the fact that, as near as I can tell, the oud here is synthetic. If you get a chance, give Oud & Menthe a try. It is a good quality enjoyable fragrance, especially for lovers of mint scents. Whether you decide to pay the price for it is, of course, up to you.

I believe I found my favourite fresh oud-based scent. I get the realistic mint smell...that aged wood smell from the "oud" (whether it's real or synthetic) and then I get a slight sweetness lurking in the background that gets a little bit more pronounced in the late drydown. Simple but very well-executed scent for what it wants to be. Everything comes together so naturally to the nose. The only downside for me is the excessive cost...otherwise, this would already be in my collection.

Simple but striking perfume with a lovely sweet astringent like finish for those who like things a bit minty. The main player is a beautiful natural mint note which is surrounded by Hindi Oud and an ambery woods accord. The unisex scent has moderate sillage and good longevity. It has a cool regal presence around you and definitely needs to be tried if possible before purchase. And yes it is overpriced for what it offers. Enjoy!

Perfection! As everyone else has said, you wouldn't expect oud and mint to work, but it just works! I blind bought it and couldn't be happier. From memory, Oud & Menthe is quite similar to Oud Radieux. Fresh, bright, aromatic, bordering on sporty! Simply the best! 5/5

I have been tested several Cartier haute parfumerie scents over the past few days - the《 Les Épures 》collection and some of these Oud & x perfumes. In general, I find them to be simple compositions made with high-quality ingredients, but with disappointing performance. Oud & Menthe is in keeping with this. Centred around an unusual accord (that I fully expected to be unpleasant), it is a surprisingly good, if simple, scent that fades disappointingly quickly. O&M opens with fresh mint from initial spray, herbal and realistic like freshly plucked mint leaves, crushed between fingers. Bright and increasingly camphorous, it is the dominant note of this scent. Mint is often a difficult note for me in perfumes, but this is one of the most successful renderings of mint in a perfume as I've come across. As it develops, oud emerges in the base, soft and woody, marrying surprisingly well with the mint. It is muted and musky, amber-like and just slightly animalic. The bright mint fades fast, becoming a soft, aromatic green herbal note alongside the musky oud. It becomes increasingly musky as it fades, aromatic until final fade. Sillage and longevity are moderate. A simple but creative composition featuring an excellent natural mint note and a muted, musky oud - O&M is centred on an accord that works despite itself. I just wish the performance was better. An unusual springtime scent, unisex and comforting, there is plenty to admire here. 3.5/5.

when i first tried this on paper, i got this cooling cucumber in the opening, which was so unexpectedly pleasant. i was disappointed when i tried in on skin and that aspect was non-existent, not only that, but the mint only stayed for 5 minutes on my skin and then it turned into a powdery warm oud. however, i was able to find a bottle at a good price, so i gave it a shot. idk if there's a batch variation or what, but the bottle i received is 180° different from the tester i tried at Holts, the mint actually stayed for the duration of the wear, which is so great (still no cucumber unfortunately). i LOVE the smell of natural mint in my garden, but i find it tricky in perfumery as the ones i have tried have either been too sweet (such as saint julep) or kind of toothpaste/deodorant-like (like l'homme ideal cool). this one is pure joy for me, there's this cooling effect of menthol that u get when u drink while chewing a mint gum, but also this smoky [kind of] powdery woody background. i don't find it to be stinky, but the oud is exactly like the rest of this collection from cartier. overall, extremely recommended IF u can get it for half the retail or less cause these high end Cartier frags DO NOT LAST FOR GOD'S SAKE.

It's pretty much as noted, oud, mint and amber. The oud is for sure there, and it's interesting how you start smelling the fragrance and the oud hits you and just as you are about to anticipate "the funk" then the mint comes in and takes you elsewhere. The undercurrent of it all is the musky amber note, which I feel is the base for a lot of the fragrances in this line but with different twists on it. This is good, and maybe the cooler weather mint fragrance where most of them are built for summer.

Oud and Menthe is probably one of the cleanest and best smelling fragrances of Cartier’s “High Perfumery” selection. Clean Crisp Mint with one of the most tantalizing smelling Oud’s currently available on the market. The initial mint dies down shortly after spraying (good for those who don’t normally like mint in their fragrances) and the resulting scent is a warm yet light and very clean embrace of Oud. A much more sophisticated fragrance than One would think for such a simple composition. It really is the genius of Mathilde Laurent at work, who has come to master this line from what Was some previously disappointing fragrances (not going to mention “roadster” but I will for the sake of this review). The smell is quite frankly fantastic. I think this sits nicely between Oud & Oud which was very heavy and pungent and Oud & Amber which was far to strong and spicy. Presentation of the product in typical Cartier fashion is stunning in every facet. This is where my praise ends. For $495 CAD including taxes (Cartier boutique price I’m sure it’s available elsewhere for cheaper) the scent life of Oud and Menthe is criminally short. You get one hour and Maybe two if you absolutely cover your neck until it’s dripping which I personally attempted out of sheer frustration to see just how long I could make the fragrance last. Spoiler: by the time I was putting my jacket on to leave the restaurant, Oud & Menthe had already gone out the door 30 minutes prior. It is very disappointing, money aside, to like a fragrance so much and have it’s scent life last so short. Money included, it’s actually unacceptable. If a bottle of Canoe for $27 at your local drug store is outlasting 3 to 1 your “High Perfumery” fragrance, there is a serious issue. It's a strange combination to say the least. Unfortunately the mint in here reminds me too much of spearmint toothpaste. The oud is of good quality, lightly pungent but not animalic. There is a certain freshness under the woody oud accord but combining mint with oud is just not my thing. Only suitable for real mint enthusiasts otherwise I'd be surprised one would find this a pleasant wear. Outrageous pricing obviously. 4/10

A very long-lasting exactly-as-described fragrance. It starts out with a very cool photo-realistic mint that stays persistent throughout the mid and base. This is a beautifully blended western oud (nothing medicinal or fecal here). I enjoy wearing this in the spring/summer but this is definitely year-round. Super fresh fragrance with killer longevity. I mean c'mon, this is blended beautifully from Mathilde Laurent.

Simple, but stunning, and I WANT IT!! Its horribly overpriced though. three hundred pounds and change? No ma'am. But, its perfect for all four seasons, its fresh and sporty as well as being austere and respectable. Its really frickin' nice. I imagine I might give in and get this at some point. Oud and mint! Who would have thought it works? But it does!

Non sweet amber mint... This is simply non sweet amber mixed with mint. I can't detect any oud in here! spices yes but oud no. It is a cooling spicy mint blend that is easy to wear. Nice.
