Oud Vanille

Mathilde Laurent proving she’s quite the master here. Cartier obviously are limiting the sillage across most of the range to represent the brands refinement. Yet we come across this series of scents which are typically middle eastern but handled with french finesse instead of the brute tour de force we are used to (which I personally prefer if done well best examples by Frederic Malle followed by Bvlgari Le Gemme and Spirit of Dubai.) Here we have Mathilde Laurent almost building Oud & Ambre foundations a vanilla twist if you will. She’s adeptly united the woody and animalic aspects of vanilla and seamlessly forged a bond with a slightly sweet yet not quite fecal oud. Now the great finesse here is in perfectly balancing the vanilla and showcasing different aspects of it will its supported and amplified even by oud. Obviously you feel all the usual suspects albeit in different doses of benzoin, myrrh and more resins. ML has really outdone herself at Cartier. I don’t see how this brand could’ve reached where it is without her. Quite reminiscent of JCE at Hermes. If only they would forget the brand imagery and unleash her talent to put the oomph in this line. Alas, I am quite happy with the way she has played the hand she was dealt. Given all the beauty here I’m still a sucker for that Oud Radieux a stroke of genius.

An excellent perfume. Very deep and textured, but quite simple as well. Instead of being a pyramid composed of notes, it is instead a smell all its own. The opening is slightly challenging. The oud begins a little rubbery, a little animalic. Then I get something like a very elegant bonfire : woods, smoke, and golden embers that fly up into the night. The base is where this perfume shines. Smoky, woody, resinous, and a brilliant, golden vanilla. The vanilla sparkles like cut glass illuminated by candlelight. Truly wonderful. It's supported by something green and slightly sharp or floral to my nose - angelica? coriander? mint? moss? ylang? It doesn't matter, it's gorgeous. The oud provides a wonderful foundation. It's wonderfully light while remaining slightly sour. Mysterious, elegant, restrained. All of the materials feel extremely high quality and natural. Oud Vanillé is a rare 5/5 in my book.

This has the classic Cartier sensibilities: high quality, complex, long lasting and smells of luxury. I always feel this house is often overlooked for trendy, more flashier brands. With Cartier, you know you are in for: a high end, expensive smelling experience. I swear Oud Vanille has more going on than the two notes listed. I get sandalwood, tonka, musk, and something salty. It also has an almost cooling, menthol vibe coming off it like a lot of Cartier fragrances. But this is all about soft, supple oud with just a faint whisper of it being slightly stinky. The vanilla is slightly cool, aloof, and mixes equally with the oud. Leans masculine and more for the evening in the cooler months. This is a fine, rich experience. Reminds me a lot of Sound of a Ricochet by Floraiku, but this is less sweet, saltier and more masculine leaning. Thumbs up

It is my favorite scent from Oud series from Cartier. As the name indicates it's vanilla and oud. Very nice and refined. It's a grown up, decadent vanilla with some balsamic notes in the background. Oud is toned down but definitely detectable. Cozy, enchanting and enveloping. Unisex. However, beware - if you overspray, you will notice the animalic note. Smells nicer from a distance. It's lovely when sprayed lightly and when it dries down. A great pick for an evening in winter or colder weather. However, I enjoy it indoors in a climate controlled environment, any season. I would wear it when I'm going out or relaxing at home during colder days. It may be too much for some people in an office environment. It does have a very high rating but I would be cautious about blind-buying it because the oud note may not be universally likable.

Cartier Oud Vanille might be my favourite 2023 release so far. As with the rest of the fragrances in this line, there are only 2 main notes that make up the scent profile, however that doesn’t render this scent boring or simplistic in the slightest. The oud is clean, musky and slightly animalic - it’s a step above typical westernised oud and really presents the note in a bare-bones, natural way. On the other hand, the vanilla is soft, creamy, fluffy and exceptionally smooth. It juxtaposes the oud perfectly and fills the air around you with a fantastic contrast of sweetness and bitterness. This is fast becoming my favourite vanilla in my collection, the quality of ingredients here is phenomenal and the blending is superb. Definitely one to check out for all the vanilla lovers out there.

Typical oud+vanilla combo but very elegant, inoffensive, and inviting. Can be worn in nearly every setting and requires only a few sprays as I believe the magic is in the subtlety of this fragrance. The oud comes in strong at first but then settles nicely with the vanilla. Unisex.

VANILLA, OUD, PATCHOULI! WOW WOW WOW WOW WOW WOW WOW WOW YESSSSSSSSS!!!!! Another beautiful creation by this underrated house! Absolutely GORGEOUS! Masterfully blended. Also, I smell patchouli in this! Anyone else smell it? If you’re thinking of getting this: get it.

Beautiful vibrant and really white vanilla.. This being juxtaposed with some light oud. So light in fact that It's mostly sandalwood for me. And the closer/upfront I smell it from, the more ambery it gets and I'm picking resemblences from Oud & Ambre

This fragrance is stunning! Dirty, earthy, sweaty semi sweet seduction. This is one of a kind and if you have an opportunity try it! Mesmerizing profile that I can’t get out of my head.

Oudy vanilla. A dark, smoky forest dripping caramel from smoldering leaves onto crushed vanilla beans soil. Lusciously smoldering composition.

***Updated Well, it's definitely dark and interesting, even if not my type of scent so far. Upon first spray, it's very Sharp, very Woody and the Vanille is quite bitter, like the Vanilla Extract I use for baking lol. I've only recently gotten into the fragrances deep dive, approx. 4 months ago, and I have not smelled this type of Oud. It's not as heavy, full, bold or smooth/creamy as other Ouds I've experienced. This is Crisper(?) and maybe dirtier(?). It's definitely more Woody like my drawing pencils, but not like the "pencil shaving" smell of Molecule 01. After the initial olfactory shock from the Screechines, it begins to relax a bit & reminds me of a Rich, Dark Library with a sliver of light coming through vintage, lace curtains, providing a warm glow. 30 minutes in, I get wiffs of a slightly sweeter Vanille as the Bitterness & Oud softens. This smells better in the air around me rather than when my nose is right on it. I actually quite like it, it's comforting in a weird way. So far, it's leaning a little more masculine on my chemistry while changing back and forth between the Vanille and Oud. I only spritzed small amounts on my wrists & inside the elbow, towards the end of the day, but it's projecting well enough. Now that I know I don't absolutely hate it, and it's mellowed quite a bit giving off a subtle, nuanced scent, I think I will have to do another clean test tomorrow and spritz a little more on my collar bones & other areas. I keep smelling the Sumatra coffee beans that I ground over 12 hours ago, so idk if that is interfering with the perfume or if it is an actual effect of the scent itself. ***This perfume is a perfect example of why I have learned not to judge a scent based on the first spray and how it smells for the first 25 minutes. It calmed down 30 minutes in, and within an hour, it seemed like it was shifting and blending, right under my nose, in the most subtle way. It turned into such an understated, elegant, sexy and "natural" (lightly) Musky Vanilla scent on me. With every movement, I would get a delicate wiff of the perfume, and I couldn't believe what it became from how loud it started out! On my skin, it's simple & natural smelling, yet alluring, with a good longevity. I would buy this, if I had a lot of disposable income, just to have in my collection. But for now, as I am trying to figure out which top 10 perfumes I simply can't live without, it will have to wait. I guess it's "which other 8 perfumes" since I have found 2 of the 10 so far. :)

Personal: 7/10 - I can't say I love it, but I really don't hate it. It's beautiful, kinda. Mass appeal: 6/10 - I would say this fragrance is generally likable, but some strongly dislike. Performance: 8/10 - It's a dark, sweet fragrance, and it sticks around like it. Value: 4/10 - It's expensive ($300), but it's unique enough that to a select few, it may be justifiable. Uniqueness: 7/10 - Despite being 2 notes, it's done extremely well. Familiar DNA but unique. SCORE: 64/100 Full bottle buy? NO, very expensive and almost redundant with Mercedes Club Black Blind buy? NO, for the price and given the oud, buy a tester. Recommend? YES, if you want sweet vanilla but old money. Date night? YES, but don't overspray. It's strong and loud, and they may not love the oud! Office safe? NO, some sweet winter fragrances are fine, but the oud is a bit too off-putting. Pros: A unique but simple fragrance. Smells very high quality. Cons: Extremely generic and forgettable. Floral fresh spiciness makes this a bit harder to wear than other freshies. For being a $300 fragrance, I'm not sure what I expected, but not quite this. Oud Vanille might just be THE most simple fragrance I've ever smelled, given it has two (2), yes two, notes. And let me tell you, that oud is a bit off-putting, but that vanilla evens it out QUITE nicely. I don't think this, especially given its price, could ever be a daily wear fragrance for me, as although it maintains impressive depth even in its simplicity, it's still harsh. It's not the smoothest fragrance, but I must say, it really feels high quality, and I appreciate that. It opens exactly as it dries down, with a blast of vanilla (not synthetic at all), and a deep, dark, slightly rancid oud. And through the dry down, all that happens is the notes mellow out a bit, becoming less 'sharp', but still being polarizing. It's beautiful in its own way, again, because of it being so simple and yet so high quality, though it's far from what I would consider a masterpiece. This is basically Club Black Eau de Toilette 's older brother who rides motorcycles. It's cool, sophisticated, but really simple. It's not for everyone, and I can't even tell if it's for me, but it's kinda beautiful. And overpriced. *Review #14 in my fragrance journey - this fragrance I own as a decant*

Simplistic yet gorgeous clean oud + semi-sweet soft and pillowy vanilla. Has a light and airy quality that makes it easy to wear for those who want something understated and chic

this opens with semi-animalic oud and a hint of vanilla. after a minute or so the oud gets more smoky. for me the oud overtakes the vanilla on the drydown. i love vanilla and if the oud is right i love it too, but this one just gets far too smoky with my skin chemistry. i can see how this would be wonderful on the right person though.

An Oud accord with vanillin. Getting a coumarin/tonka bean vibe as well. While not impressed, this is the first designer oud fragrance i've been able to stand. But it is nothing ground breaking, an easy to wear fragrance that has a little real oud depth to it. Hats off to you Cartier

Had high hopes for this one, but thank goodness it doesn’t smell what I expected it to as it’s pricey and way too much for what it smells like. I already hated on one frag tonight I almost made it two, but decided to be nice and just hit the dislike button. I got a legit branded sample of this and the juice is super dark, like you would need to wait a bit if you were wearing something light colored (or anything really, unless it’s dark colored rag). I tried it 2.5 half times so far, I will give it one more shot but need some time as the first time I tried it was just a small spray and a dislike. Tried it again on one area of my arm the other day and had to spray something over it shortly after as it was so bad. And then this evening, the same but didn’t spray over it. I don’t think my sample is bad, I just think it’s the fragrance. I’ve read so many reviews in this site where people say a perfume smells like gnarly things (baby vomit, cat pee, cow manurer, etc). I didn’t think I’d be one to do that, be here it comes, yes, it smells like human urine (the kind where you haven’t peed in a while and it’s yellow), except it’s on some kind of pine, and the pine is musty, and the wet forrest of evergreen trees are mixed. That’s this scent. I get no vanilla, it’s very much a pee scent with some wood. If you want to call that animalistic, then you’re being way too kind. It’s not for the faint of heart. And it’s definitely not a unisex scent imo, it leans very masculine on me. Siliage is moderate but it’s really hard for to gage that as I don’t think I could really wear this out without feeling icky. I feel dirty after wearing it, maybe on a man that’s been chopping wood and wears flannel and such this could smell great on, that outdoorsy rugged man. But on a waify not so outdoorsy girl this smells like I’m wearing woody fresh urine, no vanilla, no sweetness, just a musty ickiness that I can’t wait to get off of me.

Vanilla amber... The drydown said it all going full throttle vanilla with caramel traces, besides the sweet amber. I enjoy Cartier's quality in fragrances, but $355 for this blend! REALLY! no offense but max i'd go for it if it were 50$ MAX. If you want similar blend like this then you can go for indie houses like "House of Matriarch", "DSH Perfumes", & "Black Baccara" and ask them for similar blends and i'm sure that will be happy to assist you on finding exact similar with more quality and even better twist than this one. Oh and btw, there is 0 oud in this! or let's say more like minus 100 (-100) oud in this one! the only oud that i can detect in this blend is the "Oud" word written on the bottle.

Oud Vanille Cartier: A Masterclass in Blending Mathilde Laurent is truly one of the most talented perfumers out there. Vanilla and oud belong to different worlds, and blending them is no easy task, but she creates something entirely unique here. It’s both vanilla-oud and yet neither at the same time; it becomes a quiet, luxury fragrance. The powdery, sweet character pairs beautifully with the wood. Rating: 8/10

Dirty... too much oud for me (and I usually really tolerate oud), after 3 hours I smell animalistic-oudish vanilla. I had to aply more pure vanilla to hide that dirty oud smell. It’s heavy and sweaty. Oud and Santal is much much better.

although not my favorite from this Cartier series of oud fragrances - this being number ten; it is a mildly sweet, and lightly spiced exploration of vanilla atop Mathilde Laurent’s own oud. inviting and a pleasure to don.

It combines the notes of oud and the sweetness of vanilla, adding them to the sharpness of saffron and black pepper, and a base of amber, cedar, and warm sandalwood.

Alright children. Smell. THIS is how vanilla should be done! These recent two additions to the oud line (amber and vanilla) are strikingly impressive.

typical perfume scent, didnt do it for me, missing that “something special” about it. theres no ummph. their oud & santal is impressive though

Primal, luxurious, warm vanilla, i smell amber as well but it is not listed in the notes. Date night worthy. Perfectly unisex

Quality vanilla. Quality oud. No twists and turns here. Just a gorgeous dance between these two notes. And it's glorious.

The (third) best fragrance in my collection. 10/10 masterpiece. Didn't know Cartier had heat like this.
