Amazing perfume. I'm lucky to have a vintage miniature dab on which is better than a spray because it's pure parfum and on your skin directly you can really experience the fragrance as it's meant to be. This starts off with a delicious 1980s cool rich mom vibe - leather handbag of the expensive kind, luxury powder and lipstick, make-up. Smells like a mix of all the most feminine products in one handbag. The multi colored florals kick in right away - yellow ylang ylang, white jasmine, purple heliotrope, pink rose, red carnation, blue iris, among other florals. The vetiver and green notes, courtesy of patchouli and oak moss follow immediately. Green but soft green not a heavy hitting chypre green. This is not that mossy or herbal but what it is is a bright powdery floral with a slight green accord that gives it an exotic jungle flair. Evokes the image of flowers found in the middle of a jungle.This is sweet because it has fruit notes in the top (which I can't detect) but mostly sweet floral. The powdery effect is so lovely. Dries down to amber and musk. It's a civet musk that is actually not that bad. Gets dusty and musky at the same time. The fragrance lasts for hours all day and has a very good projection. It's warm and spicy, Oriental and smoky, rich, fills the head. I love the bottle with the panther. I would peg this as mainly a fall and winter fragrance but it's good all year round. The florals are definitely spring and summer whereas the spices incense and musk are fall and winter. This is a beautiful classy fragrance which although dated has so much going for it. If you like Poison by Dior and Magie Noire by Lancome, chances are you will love this perfume because it has those kind of vibes. Great for wearing on a fancy dinner date and formal events. Ultra femme, super feminine, for a confident woman who enjoys perfume, as in real perfume.

Vintage Panthère is such a gem (pun intended). I believe the current La Panthère is a completely different scent (though I have yet to smell it), but I'd expect it to be decent, considering it is the work of Mathilde Laurent. Panthère is such an 80s time capsule - spicy-amber-woody goodness with a big floral heart. As a sandalwood aficionado, I was also keen to try it for this note alone, and I'm not disappointed. The bottle is great, distinctive and luxe, worthy of the scent inside. Panthère opens with a lush orange blossom note, bolstered by a fresh, zesty citrus accord. Soft spices, notably ginger, add a peppery lift, while labdanum creates an ambery effect from the beginning. Here, it is reminiscent of Christmas in the very best way. As it develops, a bold floral bouquet emerges, led by heady tuberose and clean jasmine. The florals are sweet instead of indolic, and ylang ylang and rose are also detectable. There is a hint of spice, adding depth and interest. The florals become powdery as they develop, with iris and polleny heliotrope emerging, blurring the edges of the more carnal white florals. Sandalwood creeps in after the floral heart has fully bloomed, tempering and complementing Panthère beautifully. It acts as a counterpoint to the feminine sweetness, being smooth, rich and warm. Vanilla adds some sweetness to the drydown, while an earthy, animalic accord emerges, adding a typically vintage finish to this scent. It becomes an ambery skin scent as it fades, with hints of sweetness and woody notes. Sillage is moderate and longevity is impressive. Bold yet elegant, this is a typical 80s scent yet manages to be more refined. Luxurious and feminine, it is just the right amount of sexy - best worn during autumn/winter evenings. For women, not girls. I would love a full bottle housed in the red box. Excellent. 4.5/5.

Incomparably beautiful, rich, redolent, golden and sensuous. Truly feline, sleek, stealthy. Glossy noir. Gardenia, jasmine, orange blossom, a cascade of white florals restrained by the depth of civet, sparkling with ginger, hinting of rose. Golden ambery, warm with exotic nutmeg; the nutmeg of the islands, the real, old nutmeg. A carnation that is clovey, but not medicinal: sweet, sexy, purring like a fat cat, this is rich, luxurious, velvety and posh. Animalic? Yes, no doubt. This is the kind of intoxicating perfume that leads me to contemplate buying up the world's supplies. This is the kind of perfume where the idea of a dupe is laughable, as in diabolically cackling laughter. This is the kind of perfume that inspires words like masterpiece, and makes a signature. This may well be the sultriest perfume of all time. There is so much happening here, such complexity. Some of that comes from the sheer number of notes and constituent elements. Like a symphony orchestra versus a chamber orcestra, a big band versus a small jazz band: neither is better, but with a big band you can attempt things you can't with a four person band. Cartier panthere is like a great symphony orchestra, inspired and led by a brilliant conductor, featuring masterful solos, interpreting a beautiful, brilliant work. It feels ridiculously opulent, over-the-top gorgeous, almost too much, veering into a thousand and one strings. DRAMA!

19. may 2011 I have a vintage version of pure parfum 30ml bottle and also a vintage parfum de toilette 75 ml bottle of this discontinued treasure. I haven ́t tried a newer version in EDT and EDP of "Panthere" so my review is for vintage only by far. I don ́t see this as oriental fragrance, this is quite sweet and rich. To me this is a typical rich-bitch perfume. Very complex and sophisticated, but not in any way simple. Also not in any way i would palce it in a category for mature/old women (though when i wear it i hear comments about smelling like an old lady). The category for this one is feminine and classy women. I would highly recommend to wear this with fabrics like velvet or lace (but i really enjoy it while wearing something casual as well). Why? because it is agressive and powerful and also quite soft like a kitten. At first i thought that the name for it is not propriate, but later i realized just like panther it can be either cuddling or agressive, depends on the wearer type. I really like how tuberose is combined here with other florals (carnation in particular) without being smelling too floral. The drydown has a strong sandalwood note, which i really like. A really powerful fragrance with a great lasting power. And like other Cartier fragrances it has really nice packaging and amazing bottle. The new version is very simplified, but the vintage bottles are even more beautiful!

I just received this blind buy, 50ml vintage parfum de toilette recharge bottle today in the post, sans cap or decorative panther around the bottle. On first spritz I knew I’d have to immediately get a back up for this even before it had dried down. Creamy white & exotic yellow florals, the combination of amber & spices with these florals produce an almost honeyed, narcotic/indolic incense that wafts off from my skin, I’m actually quite surprised honey isn’t mentioned in the notes because I can swear I smell it here, although it could be the combination of orange blossom, tuberose and ylang that is creating that accord. This fragrance is spellbinding and beautifully feminine to me. I’m on the hunt for a parfum version now, I’m so happy I discovered this. Edit: I also bought a 50ml of the vintage eau de Parfum spray in a glass diamond etched bottle with the glass panther lid similar to the image above. Strangely enough, to me the eau de parfum is not as powerful as the parfum de toilette the fragrance is just as beautiful though. Edit: the eau de parfum is superior. Smells like magic when it dies down, the craftsmanship of this perfume is stunning.

Panthere must have been one of the most beatiful fragrances I have smelled. I'm very grateful I had the chance to test it extensively, but I ended up selling it since it has a huge personality - one that obviously didn't match me. Panthere is definitely a remnant of the 'old' world - one where perfumes were grand, complex creations. The composition is simply magnificent. Civet is the real star for me here. It's just like cuddling a cat, smelling cat's belly, along with it's comforting warmth. The civet supports the wonderful bubblegum florals - personally for me too sweet. The white florals aren't indolic at all, but they maintain a very beautiful balance between luscious and delicateness. Another supporting note is the carnation. Personally I'm not a fan of carnation and that's also the reason I sold it off. These notes are enveloped in a lush, warm package of florals and oriental goodiness, with amber and a very lovely sandalwood being the main stars. All in all, Panthere is the most luxurious perfume I have smelled. It's Poison's classy sister, that's for sure.

I own the Vintage Edt ,and Vintage Pure Parfum and let this be a warning: DO NOT OVERDO THE PARFUM, it is ridiculously strong. it is not a parfum by todays standard, half a spray and this is emanating VERY VERY STRONGLY. Dominant notes of animalic tuberoses, and the orange blossom add the headiness to the bouquet, Heavily spiced with nutmeg. The thing about this composition is it s very 80s but you can distinguish every single note clearly with the gardenia and Ylang ylang and jasmine. Beautiful indeed but not an everyday occasion, half a spritz has left me afraid, cautious, and yes it is very reminiscent of Poison's tuberose. So this without a doubt a black tie event. Now for the Vintage Edt, simply the most wonderful florals i ve had the pleasure to come across. it is well balanced fresh(not in the minty cool way a-la-sports fragrance), wild, and very realistic, with more emphasis on the carnations, jasmine and Orange Blossom, i will treasure my priceless bottle for many years too come. I swap decants worldwide :)

My husband got this for me in the summer of 1993. We were married the following September . I loved it so much I only wore it on special occasions. At the time I didn't know that Cartier came out with perfumes regularly. A couple of years later, I went with my husband to get some cologne and we asked about Cartier. We found out they had a new fragrance and I loved that one too. My husband loved to smell good so you can image every few years I would get the latest Cartier. My husband passed away a couple of years ago. I haven't been to the store to buy perfume in years. The other day I was out with my daughter. Like her father, she loves to smell good. We went into the perfume store. I was flooded with memories of my husband. As my daughter was checking out, I asked the salesperson if she had Cartier. Of course she did. Like Panther, the Baiser Voles is wonderful. I am so glad I was able to get the new Cartier. To the men or women Cartier is a wonderful habit to have. If you haven't tried it before, you should.

Panthere 1986 was Morillas opus. Much like Ellenas First for VCA in the 70s, Morillas expertly blends a littany the best materials for the lavish Panthere. Yes, its the very wealthy side of the 1980s. Its also a reminder of how strong, ruthless and commanding America used to be. Weve fallen so far away from that we see something like this opulent fragrance as "old". Put this in an Amouage bottle and it would fly off the shelf. Infact, this white floral with gardenia leading the way is easily related to Amouage Honour 43 extrait. (The white floral component) This fragrance inspires you to wear your full face make up, nails and hair done to the hilt. To many at the time looking glam was a daily occasion. I think we need to get back to that and find some pride in ourselves. Enough of the lowest denominator. We accept so much less now. Panthere reminds you of that. Up your game if you wear this Panthere. Just stunning. Edt reviewed.

10. august. 2011 Try it in a rainy weather, you ́ll be charmed with this sweet magic potion! It is simply incredible and so complex that it developes for hours and keeps me surprising and asking myself: my, what smells so good here! Oh, it ́s me! Powerful, sweet, oriental, a bit smoky, AMAZING in one word! (this was a review for a vintage Parfum de toilette). UPDATE (16.10.2011): I am simply in love with this dark and mysterioiu fragrance. This one has an amazing staying power for days!!! literally!!! Turned to be my favorite fragrance for autumn period now! Just don ́t overspray it, it may give you a serious headache otherwise! love, love, love!!! stunningly perfect, i can ́t believe it has been discontinued. With "poison" being reformulated and "Panther" being discontinued i jsut don ́t know what to do when i will run out of it. This one is unreplaceble, unique and outstanding.

Another great classic gone... It must be something with real good sandalwood endagered or being too expensive, because most of great perfumes with sandalwood base have disappeared or sadly re-formulated. I wonder if Cartier discontinued both Panthere and my lovely So Pretty for this reason. I don't think they were just not selling enough! I still own a sample from back in time and it smells gorgeous! White thick flowers with a luscious luminous never heavy nor stiff woody bottom note impossible to find in mainstream perfumes nowadays. The scent is extremely complex and multi-nuanced sothat you keep enjoying it while wearing it for your own pleasure not just to please crowds. It's not a scent you get bored in 1 hour and want to scrub off to wear something else.

My daughter bought this for me because it reminded her of how I smelled when I would come home from ym orchestra gig late at night and tiptoe into her room to give her a kiss. She called that smell "cold perfume" and told me she spent a lot of time looking for a fragrance that duplicated it. Funny thing is I don't really remember what I was wearing those days—possibly my late lamented discontinued Mollie Parnis—tho Panthere bears no resemblance. Scent and memory—is anything more alluring? Anyway, i continue to wear Panthere, which reminds *me* of what I as a little girl thought of as "grown-up" perfume. I can't even break out the notes because for me to analyze it would be to give up the immediacy of how this lovely fragrance hits me.

so im trying an edt from my moms closet. she got it at the store from the display, so it doent stand up and has tester on it. maybe my bottle is old because i sprayed myself 5 times and can hardly smell anything. at first i get tuberose and gardenia. then i get a watered down cat piss. then the carnation comes through. then it gets amazing with some nutmeg and tonka coming through. i maybe get a tiny bit of powdery jasmine. it really smells amazing, but i imagine the vintage edp would be too heavy and unfortunately the 1oz edt that i now have is going to last me like a week if i have to spray it 5 times just so i can smell it. it has a rich elegant quality.im really loving this. might be my favorite ive smelled so far.

Here I am, happy owner of a vintage Panthere, in the old diamond-shaped bottle with two polished glass panthers on the sides. Let’s see, it’s super heavy, and it’s presented in the red jewellery box of Cartier. First whiff and... phew ! Ecstatic pleasure threw me into the sixth dimension of pure stratospheric happiness! This is several classes above any fragrance I’ve known! Longevity, let’s see. The bottle must be twenty years old, so for the age it’s amazing. And in the absolute longevity is very good, it’s just that I want it to last forever. This perfume makes me want to forget all the others. And btw reconciles me with Alberto Morillas.

I didn't know Panthere had been discontinued or reformulated. What a disappointment. I have the original large glass flacon with the lions on the sides and the panther on the stopper (before the atomizer goes in). A masterpiece of the perfumer's art, it's immense, complex, tantalizing, beguiling, unforgettable. I save it for special occasions - men are mesmerized by it. To me, comparing most of today's niche and designer fragrances to those of the 20th century is like comparing a cartoon to an Ingres painting. Ah well, different times, different tastes.

This is one of the greatest formulations. Much like Opium, where the enormous number of notes combine into something more than its parts, so does Panthere. I have a vintage parfum spray with the gold panther like the above picture. Its sexy, strong, feminine, mysterious, fresh, playful, and unique. You won't find duplicates of this out there. It stays with you and let's others know you have your pet panther strolling by your side. It just smells rich. Money big 80s rich, glittering and all. Only a woman with character can pull this off. Gorgeous!

Having read all the wonderful reviews here, I'll keep mine short. Its for the modern EDP. A grand symphony of notes, expertly composed, finely executed. A truly beautiful fragrance! The dry down is absolutely DIVINE!!! This is what a woman's fragrance SHOULD smell like! This is a fragrance that assists you in being in touch with your true feminine Self... If you dare. And to think the ladies here that are versed in vintage fragrances are saying how the original version is even more wonderful! Oh my!

This is an interesting fragrance. It’s a floral fragrance that develops across several profiles. You get a spicy floral that then develops into a sweet floral, which then becomes a clean floral (that doesn’t smell like body wash). Finally it becomes a creamy floral. The florals smell like you are in a garden with a ton of different flowers. I can pick out the gardenia and it is so beautiful in this. The sandalwood in this is pure heaven. I fall more in love with this scent as it develops.

I have a bottle of Panthere in the round bottle with the diamond like cutouts around in a circle. It states it is Cartier Panthere Eau de Toilette. I don't think this is the same since most people keep saying "parfum". It is an old bottle and a little musky smelling juice. The top doesn't have a cap but a round, white sprayer. Do any of you know anything about this version? Please PM me because I may not get back here very soon. Thanks for any information!

This perfume is right up my alley: heavy, complex, sexy, sophisticated. I find Panthere very multi-dimentional because it seems like it is comprised of my favourite fragrances: I can catch whiffs of Cassini Black Tie, Le Baisier du Dragon, Youth Dew, Sonia Rykiel Le Parfum....an absolutely beautiful all-in-one. But at the same time Panther hold a firm ground on its own with its unique personality. Gorgeous fragrance suitable for a Queen or Goddess.

Update: I purchased the parfum; it is much less bright than the EDP which my daughter had bought me, and—inset harrumph here—the label was crooked! All that $$$ and you would think they could get the label straight. Anyway, the drydown is identical and the parfum really lasts all day. I miss that astringent sparkle that opens the EDP, so I'll have to buy it, too and layer. Best of both worlds.

Time to dress up and sail off to the opera. No other perfume will do on a Grand Night Out. Whoever decided to discontinue this Queen of all perfumes, must have had a lousy reason for doing so (a very undignified work in relation to Prominent Perfumes..) All we can do is treasure our last bottles and keep searching the net for more.

I got the vintage bottle today, I put a little on my wrist. The beginning is musky with strong white flowers that are very attractive and beautiful. Then the citrusy note and fresh spices and amber begins to appear nicely and softly. After that it ends with a velvety powdery touch whith high longtivity. I love this very much!

Vintage Parfum: Panthere is a warm, sensual and classy perfume with the scent of sweet florals, nutmeg, sandalwood and civet. It's not aggressive, as the name might lead you to believe, but Panthere stands confidently beautiful and sexy, turning heads and making its presence known to all around.

Trying Panthere in a parfum vesion. It's viscous, dark and animalistic, made rich with bright note of brisk white flowers (gardenia is the most noticeable). A beautiful big cat this Panthere is, not dirty, but lithe and gracious.

Essence of vintage. Beautiful, perfumy in the best way. Hauntingly familiar although I have never had the chance to sniff it before. It’s like the distillation of every vintage perfume into its purest form. Love it like a cat.

A perfume which evokes contradictory thoughts and feelings in me. Cool and warm, mysterious but confident, present and intangible... I am so fond of classics; shouldn't there be a way by law to forbid their discontinuance...?

Vintage edt is so charming. There is something in common with Boucheron, Aubusson Desirade, Joop Femme and White diamonds but not that loud, nor irritating in any way. Classy and pure pleasure.

I smelt Panthere in 1989. I actually believed it was much older, being such a classic. It's mesmering, floral and animalic, a real perfume, but it's too heavy and ladylike for me.

This is a beautiful perfume! There is a note in there somewhere which is the most amazing scent, now i have to figure out which one it is, since this is sadly discontinued. Yum

In vintage parfum. This is fruity in the top with tuberose. Sweet. Then a civet bomb. The florals play a supporting role.

Gorgeous classic floral chypre. Easy to love. The modern version is very different! I prefer this old mini bottle 💚

ok i have 2 one says panthere de cartier in the old blue and Crystal bottle with 2 panthers on each side and i have a red and golden long one that says parfum de toillet panthere de cartier.. i will start with the one i love.. i had it around 1992.. it s an edt panthere de cartier.. almost round with 2 blue panthers holding the bottle..ahhhhh i just sprayed and i just cant breath or talk but i am trying to type.. for its such an intense.. wonderful..mesmerising.. tantalizing.. perfume.. its so gorgeous..its alot french with a bit of the orient and mystery of the entire globe within its heart and soul.. so full of amazing complex notes.. from woods.. to ambers ..to flowers.. to musks.. to all of gods gifts to humanity.. i think this is what a real perfume should really smell like.. it takes me back to caron and rochas..to the.natural era of french perfumery..to the romantic era pf perfumery.. to true femininity.. the base notes are endless.. with all the tonka bean the patchouli.. the civet.. vanilla ..amber.. oak mos.. and the top notes make it oh so fresh with the bursting tangerine and grapefrute that you can hardly smell yet they just awaken your senses ..and the heavenly middle notes of all the garden of eve florals..its a perfect medley of accords ..that all sing together in perfect harmony as if they were a match made in heaven .. its a true master piece in perfumery.. especailly in the last 20 years.. yes its old school.. but its a real perfumers perfume ..that must be examined by all perfume lovers.. its sensual.. elegant.. sophisticated.. clean almost invigorating..true to its essence..its classy and i hope that the new formulas are almost the same..its one of those perfumes that never go bad ..they only keep getting better with time .also its a classic you can ware it this year and 100 years from now and it will still be in just like coco Chanel s little black dress or the 2.55 bag..it smells divine..heavenly and it has such an immense effect on all those who smell it on you .. you will surly be remembered with ow and respect.. and it will also be imprinted in your heart and mind as one of the most special perfumes of all time.. perfume ratting 4.9 out 5 bottle ratting 4.8 out 5 edt 50 ml vaporisateur natural spray refilable my personal liking rating 4.8 out 5

The Smell of Money I whould Describe Panthere, It's rich full bodied and Animalistic, Panthere, as with Opium, Coco, Obsession,Cinnabar & Knowing, has a Rightfull place in the Powerhouse Sisterhood of Big Orientals, Unlike Opium Or Obsession, Panthere Uses her Subtil nuances and Sharp Wit to claw her way to the Social Ladder Then Aggressive uses of Spices and Incense, Sweet on the Outside the B*&$ On the Inside The Notes of Panthere is Complex as the Perfume it's self On the Veneer Is the note of Warm Amber Juxposes with Golden Floral Motif of Narcissus and Orange Hues of Karo, We Enter The Unhibated side of Panthere with Civet Brings a Primal Touch the florals seems to be overshadowed by the domineering notes of Amber & Civet so it's very hard to notice, What is permitted me to Love this Two faced Beauty? The Answer The Pervasive Sweetness Of Amber which to my Skin applys like a coat of Syrup Cloyish Promising but it falls short.

Cartier Panthere is a true 80's powerhouse. Although I love La Panthere, I see no resemblance to the first Panthere. And I love the bottle. The one in the picture is beautiful, but I'm writing this review from my miniature. The 4ml bottle has the same round glass, but around it are 2 panthers in black. I own 2 bottles, one full, in my drawer and an empty one to look at haha. The notes are soft, but there is a lot going on and I can understand that some people might find this a little too much. In my eyes, she smells a lot like Maroussia and those section of fragrances. Overall it is a really nice scent and seductive in her own way. The sillage is huge and wears for hours, so you don't need a lot of it, which is great. It's a shame that houses don't make powerhouses like these any more. Nice to wear for a romantic dinner, very seductive and attention grabbing in a good, mysterious way.

Tuberose has many facets, it is often described as bubblegum which puts many off, which is understandably why Panthere can be so polarising. The tuberose is insatiably chewy and gummy, its dense dewy petals gleaming in white, matched by an overtly soapy yet waxy note of orange blossom. A strong white floral presence can be overbearing, but here the shooting stems and blossoming bulbs are gracefully met by the creamy, warming addition of carnation and soft woods. This contrast of dusty face powder and clean linens is undeniably beautiful, and very much of its time. This perfume epitomises just how talented Alberto Morillas is, before he sadly descended into mediocrity (ahem, Mizensir). It represents broad shoulder pads and strong personalities, for a woman who isn’t afraid to have her voice heard.

A blast from the past! This "kitty" had 80's written all over it =) Beautiful bottles and an even more stunning perfume inside. Panthere reminds me a lot of my old Chanel No. 22, and they do share some notes, but Panthere is lighter and creamier with vanilla and more citrus. It sits close to my skin so it's not as strong and in my face as Chanel No. 22 is so I can wear it more casually and more often.

I was lucky to get a beautiful vintage Panther EdT in my collection. Now I wonder how much EdT and EdP differ? The EdT I have is nice and I have to test it more.

This is a very 80s Dynasty type of fragrance, Linda Evans in sapphire blue lame dress with big shoulder pads. Opening is gorgeous, reminiscent of vintage Opium and Coco Chanel put together but it soon softens down to something much creamier, sadly, in my opinion. The sandalwood creeps up and takes over too much - I’d prefer if the heady florals stayed as the dominant note with a level of freshness to contrast the oriental base. Its a high quality smooth blend with many ingredients but has a dated feel to it whereas something like Opium or Coco Chanel stand the test of time. I much prefer Alberto Morillas’ working in the Salvador Dali where this same idea stays much fresher, more defined. Maybe the brief for Panthere was a cat and the softness of the fur was the goal who knows - I think it would have been better with a bit more claws too. Surprisingly poor staying power for an oriental, quite faint and close to skin within 3-4h.

A complex blend with a retro feel. Several of the notes listed can be overwhelming for me, such as oak moss, amber, patchouli, etc. But I find they’re all used in a classy subtle way here. The florals are light with a powdery finish. In the mid stage it reminded me of inexpensive perfume. This fragrance isn’t my style but I can see why many people like it!

floral and civet. Cat-like elegance. In the drydown, floral notes fade and civet dominates, so kind of poopy.

For some reason this is the only Cartier fragrance that I've tried that does not smell good on me. I've worn three of their others for over 25 years, but this one sours on me within an hour of wearing. Four out of seven days a week I usually wear a Cartier fragrance, just not this one.

It's a real classic-style scent, although I can't like it on myself. The first impression was beautiful, but after the top notes give a way to the heart and base it becomes simply oldfashioned on my skin with no elegance nor comfort.....

If purple Fabuloso and Pine Sol had a musky dusty dirty baby it would be this.

Puuuuuuuuuuuuuurrrrrrrrrfect. Wow. Now you have me Purrrrrrrrring. This is AMMMMMMMMMAAAAAAAAAZING! RAWR. ----------- This is becoming harder to find - and several people asked if there are any perfumes that are similar to this. There are also a number of reviews that say that the vintage perfume of this was much different than the more modern day formulations. (So, before sampling - make note of the version that you are sampling). The closest perfume in my collection is Bill Blass Basic Black. Basic Black has slightly more of a tobacco/woodsy type base which caramelizes into this beautiful sweet smell. They both start differently - but are similar in the dry down. The tobacco/woodsy notes end on a slightly sweeter chord, even through the dry down. Creation by Ted Lapidus has a similar chord and some similar notes, although I don't have that in my collection now to compare it to Panthere. When I first smelled Panthere, my mind immediately linked the similarities to the overall vibe and smell of Ted Lapidus "Creation". Avon's Rare Gold is a perfume that resonates with Panthere's dry down. They are both alto chords - but start about 25% unique to themselves. If you just smell the initial spray, you will not notice the common notes - but as each dries down, this resonates in a similar tone and fragrance family. Avon's Rare Gold is always a compliment magnet. People really love this particular perfume with my chemistry. It is a really great perfume ON. Mon Jasmin Noir by Bulgari is close to Panthere - but slightly more woodsy; like a sweeter wood note. This is one of the perfumes that I sampled in the summer and it is just now becoming weather to wear this in. David Yurman Exotic is a perfume that has the strength of Panthere, but has more of a woods quality that lifts off the skin just a bit more than Mon Jasmin Noir by Bulgari. If you like a fragrance that starts with a more powerful presence, I would try this one - too. This caramelizes into the skin and ends on a great chord. -------------- Panthere has several different formulas. As with a lot of perfumes, the vintage version is much different than the newer variations. This is one that you would really have to sample and figure out exactly which one works best with your chemistry. I sampled the Eau de Perfume with the gold card named "Cartier La Panthere". It is really great with my chemistry; but I have not yet tried the other versions of this. ----------------------- Oddly enough, I happened to be sampling Panthere and Avon's Herstory today - and noticed that they were both in the alto chord that I normally really like. As I started to compare the two, they are similar in certain ways - with the depth of the chords. Panthere leans more warm and autumn - and Herstory leans more marine, slightly salty - and then ends with a peppermint lift type finish. If you like one, perhaps you may like the other. I would definitely try both. You may find your favorite marine fragrance as well as your favorite warm, autumn type fragrance!

what a fabulous perfume this is. and I can remember it is my third bottle since 1986. I had it thèn, there after I can remember a bottle with separate white plastic Vaporisateur for either spraying or splashing. so then I doctered out this has to be my third bottle with transparent glass Panthère cap and as a Vaporisateur for 1.6oz50mL Edp. it is already coloured into a [if I remember correctly Gewürztraminer Elsace Wine] beyond-Golden colour. it is still full !! that is because it was immediately one of my favorite 1980s perfumes (my straight twinbrother would say 'you say that of each perfume') and so I must have 'spared', 'saved' this bottle from all too liberal use. but when you slowly compile perfumes into a 'Collection' (which is never the aim) one bottle stands behind another and worse. so this third bottle apparently was 'hidden'. and now I Hauled it back from times immemorial. immediately when spritzing I recognized the perfume. as perfume-users usually do not have the specific Parfumeur-noses, and I certainly do not, one can still recognize the 'precise' 'DNA' of a scent. this scent-profile then belongs to my absolute favorites. Flowery, Powdery, Classic, Opulent, Chic, Over-The-Top, Ultra Feminine. yet over-the-top in a demure, Classique Cartier manner. plus it has Civet in civilized doses. (now checking) above yesterday 'without looking' I could clearly smell the Rose. but I have an attachment to roses. yet I could further smell the Carnation, Ylang, Gardenia, Tuberose, Jasmine, Heliotrope, Iris, Freesia and then some. when a perfume (still) contains Oakmoss I can smell it. it lures back to 1970s Chypres without however fully be subordinable to them bc after all, this was a Genuine 1980s Flowerbomb perfume ! then the Fruity, Hesperidic elements I can smell but in a more global way. Nutmeg, Pepper, Ginger all contribute to the soft orientalism of Panthère 1986. the Civet give this perfume a definite 1980s touch. or a 'Cartier-in-my-Black Mink Coat' vibe. I would attribute the feminine woodiness to the further noble ingredients Vetiver, Tonka, Patchouli, Cedar, Sandel, Oakmoss and even the Incense note. which also gives the perfume a fine granulary, powdery aspect what with the Heliotrope, Iris, Sandelwood and possibly the Vanilla, Amber and Labdanum is reinforced and evoluating into this superfine Balmy character. this perfume is a bliss to wear. I always thought to not-smell White Musk but when they ask me if a perfume is musky (it already is bc of the Civet) I can surely say 'yes' or 'no'. the perfume lives up to its chique, feline character.

My Wedding Perfume At Last I got it! I just got it in a package delivered to my home in Palm Beach courtesy of a Fragrantica friend. It's in the bottle with the panther on the top of the stopper. This is so beautiful. There isn't much I can say that hasn't already been said. This is a Cartier masterpiece. It's luxurious, floral, fruited, animalic, a complex fragrance created with every ingredient and note that matches up and formulated with love. The whole thing is like a mini jungle in a bottle. It threw up a lot of scents: mandarin orange, ginger, spices, flowers, civet, sandalwood, patchouli, incense. This is one of those epic fragrances like Dior's Poison, Yves Saint Laurent Opium, Lancôme's Magie Noire, Coco Eau de Parfum. I like it better than all of them. I was initially afraid I'd have yet another musky unisex (masculine) scent of too much wood, incense and musk. It's all in there but it's clearly designed for women to enjoy. It has just the right amount of sillage, it's neither too strong nor too weak. It's no girly girly body mist or simple raspberry or vanilla scent. While there is vanilla it's only there to give it the only gourmand ingredient in it and turns into vanilla powder. I love the flowers in this perfume: heliotrope, orange blossom, carnation, gardenia, iris, tuberose, karo korund. The flowers are white and a bit tropical, exotic. This is the kind of perfume that fills your head, that enchants you, that casts a spell. It's romantic and glamorous. It reminds me of White Diamonds by Elizabeth Taylor mixed with Passion and also giving me a Dior Poison vibe. It's also similar to Avon Far and Away except with more flowers and more of the aromatic base notes of patchouli, sandalwood. It's also a little bit like Jungle Gardenia and Natalie Wood. The whole thing dries down to wood and musk. It's got a definite unisex aspect and the right guy can pull it off. But I don't care about any of the connotations this perfume can have by anyone's interpretations. This is at long last the perfume for my wedding day. I have only tested it out on my wrist but know enough about it to adore it. This has enough flowers Inamely gardenia and tuberose/heliotrope) that I love to keep me happy and it has the elegance of a white wedding gown. I will be married on a Caribbean island and this is the perfect scent to match up with the island. It's the best perfume I've ever smelled in my life. Thank You Fragrantica. My search is over.
