Heritage 2571

Threw a sample of this in my cart on a whim. It turned out to be the only one i would consider buying. If you like woods its really good nice cypress note. I havent seen it on discounters and it looks like the best deal is waiting for Caswell Massey yearly sale.

First wearing of Caswell-Massey Heritage 2571, or simply 2571, part of a trio of fragrances, the Legacy Discovery Set, that I recently acquired as my first tries of this house that has quite a legacy in the US. This fragrance is a 2023 release and is fresh, herbal, green, and a little spicy, with notes of bergamot, cardamom, cypress, orris, and vetiver. It’s pleasant, not as dark as the spicier fougere Oaire, but a little more broadly appealing in its lighter, fresher character. Still, it’s an interesting mix with a green, borderline eucalyptus-like character, sort of an everyday freshie that’s business-friendly but perhaps not something I’d wear for an evening occasion. 2571 is EDP concentration and priced at $200 for 100ml, sold mainly via the house site, available in some discovery sets, the Legacy of which is $90 for 3 x 7.5ml. The value on Oaire is better, given that it’s a bit bolder, with better performance, but it’s not bad for 2571. 7 out of 10

I was surprised at how much I disliked this one. The heavy cardamom reminds me of body odor. I can pick up the powdery notes of the orris root just behind, but the cardamom is just too overpowering. For something I was pretty excited to try, it's unfortunately unwearable. 8/2/26 - After many tries on skins and smelling it over and over again, now I'm not too sure how I feel about it. The cardamom is doing multiple jobs with this one, but I understand now what Caswell-Massey was attempting to do. When smelled, I think pinecone. Pine sap. Turpentine. Freshly cut wood. Oddly these notes are almost enabled through the cardamom, bergamot, and orris root. 2571 is definitely one of those fragrances that needs several full wears to understand the note progression and its development.

Beautiful. Cypress and Cardamom make it interesting, Bergamot lifts it off your skin and the warmth from the Cardamom melts into the Amber Sandalwood. The Orris seems to get all tangled up into the milky notes of the Cardamom for me which makes it interesting. The Vetiver, my favorite perfume ingredient is there just enough to help keep the scent pasted down to my skin. I’m shocked how much I like this. It feels more like a Memo Paris vibe than CM.
