Heritage Tricorn

This one smells off to me, something is just not right with the note combination. There's some fresh and green aspects with spicy and woody notes, and also a strong cacao note. I think it's the cacao note that throws it off for me? It takes probably 2 - 3 hours for the cacao to die down and let other notes come to the forefront, but by that point it's mostly a skin scent. Is it a terrible fragrance? No, but it's not going to be for me. I would also not recommend this for anyone under 30 in general. Definitely try a sample before you buy this, I'm sure glad I did. Also, I don't get any comparison to Dior Sauvage. If you buy this thinking it's going to smell close to that I think you will be disappointed.

More details later, but I have to say first: this smells nothing like any incarnation of Tricorn which came before it. It's "okay-ish" at best; it has tiny hints of being related to previous incarnations, but it is *definitely* not the Tricorn I loved in the 90's.

My husband sometimes wears this, so my review is for the way it smells on him. Opens with a lot of cacao: reminds me of L'Instant de Guerlain for men. [Reminds only - this is not a dupe for L'Instant.] Also brings to mind the cacao in Kokorico (JPG), but not as much. Amber softens, tones, and warms the cacao in Tricorn slightly, but it is still a beast and a half. Strong cedar and cacao with green notes. Makes me think of fragrances from the days when everyone smoked and scents had to compete with tobacco to be noticed. Smells like unripe green chocolate...If that's even a real thing. Great if you like unapologetically assertive masculine fragrances, which I do. Tricorn has character. It smells like what I imagine the actor Robert Mitchum would have worn...like the lead man in a noir film. Put down that bottle of Sauvage and reach for a grown up fragrance for once.

This has a very modern feel to it. It is an extremely bright and energetic fragrance. For the most part, this fragrance has three stages. A brilliant opening of well...everything. Then it settles down for the long haul where you get a very nice sandalwood, cedar, and a lot of ambroxan. Then towards the very end of the life, I can only describe it as staleness under the sandalwood that lingers underneath everything. This note tends to come out after 10 hours of wear and is gone by the next morning. If you want a similar scent, It's not unlike Doir Sauvage. But it's a lot brighter
