Old Faithful Fragrance Tonic

Decidedly masculine (I'd call it unisex leaning masc), but a little more interesting than your standard pine or aquatic masc scents. There is actually little pine in this to my nose. Instead, it's the interesting birch accord and oakmoss that stand out to me. There is something fresh and maybe lightly floral about this, but I wouldn't call it a floral fragrance at all. I'm not sure it's grape-like like lupine is supposed to be and my research shows that larkspur has negligible fragrance but up close can smell clean, but there's something petal-like and light purple floating on top of the more masculine notes. Just enough to keep it feeling fresh and alive. There's something a little questionably smoky about this; it's not "smoky" per se, but something like it. I think that's the note my nose dislikes the most, but once it's worn for a bit it seems to smooth out. If you had questions like I did about what a "tonic" actually is, I am not sure I can answer that for you. What I can tell you, though, is that the concentration of the fragrance doesn't suffer for it. It's not a beast of a fragrance or anything, but you get your money's worth for it. I would say this is okay. I'm a woman who wears any type of scent I like. I am usually not concerned about the marketed gender, but I think this skews a bit too masculine in certain respects for me to feel like I'm gelling with it. That being said, I do think this is unisex and that it's something new that I haven't smelled before, which I dig. The price is right so give it a try if you are curious! For me, 6.5/10.

I have all 5 of Caswell Masseys Yellowstone frags and this is by far the worst (the other 4 are fantastic). The others, inspired by different park regions, actually invoke memories and smell like concentrated areas of YNP. This one smells like you just extinguished a fire with lavender oil. It is unique, for sure, but unpleasant.

I love Casswell-Massey's Living Floral concept, and the method they use for distilling a subset of their fragrance notes. Also adore that the Yellowstone scent lineup supports National Park Services. I believe I tried all of the Yellowstone scents, and this was one of three that I really enjoyed on initial trial (will add detail after another go).
