To See A Flower

If you think of perfumery as art, as I do, then you really must try this. It's the perfume equivalent of a great foreign film - it's a simple story, with simple characters - showing at a little artsy theatre down the street. It's the story of a flower as told from the point of view of the flower. We first encounter our protagonist in cold wet earth, then we get the first rays of sunshine and warmth. In the heart, we get a warm soft floral breeze of the flower growing in the sunshine, and finally how happy it is amongst a bouquet of other flowers as a part of a colorful arrangement in a floral shop. I have never in my life imagined that a perfume could tell such a complete story, but this one did, and it made the artist in me truly truly joyful. This is a new top shelf favorite, but just like some of my favorite art films it's not for everyone, but, for those of us who can appreciate it, it's a masterpiece.

You know some people can draw with pencil so naturalistically it looks like photograph? This is it. Crispy flowers on wet morning soil in the woods. I can't imagine myself actually wearing it, even to please myself only, but I love my sample and will come back to it in winter to remind myself that spring always comes. Surprisingly, unlike most of the perfumes I've ever tried, this one is much better from the bottle, not on skin. It is like a carefully prepared botanical example, a slice of the flower as it is but on a sterile laboratory table, like a beautiful mathematical formula. Almost non-human.

This fragrance is amazing. Perfectly photorealistic, exactly what it says it is, probably my favorite damp nature scent (of which i have a lot). Similar vibe to demeter’s wet garden, but more earthy and a bit deeper. Love them both. Sadly this one is even shorter lived. This scent goes away completely within an hour, which is a real shame for how wonderful it is. It is quite pricy as well in my opinion, especially for a smaller size. I will say i think its worth it anyway, smelling it is a wonderful experience.

wonderful for a room scent, i would never put it on a human being. smells exaggeratedly green - it's not like seeing a flower, more like eating out a chloroplast.

This is Demeter's 'Wet Garden' with more white floral. It is similar to Olympic Orchids 'Night Flyer' original, however WAAY less potent. 3/5 for me since the projection and longevity are poor.

Have you ever wished you could bottle the scent of a fresh bouquet of flowers? To See a Flower by CB I Hate Perfume is just that; a newly gifted bouquet of hyacinths, narcissus and lillies with a hint of green stem and moist soil. My experience with the house of CB I Hate Perfume is limited, but from what I've read, the founder and perfumer Christopher Brosius views perfumery as a piece of art and prides himself on his use of high-quality ingredients and is known for creating water-based perfumes. To See a Flower is one of his water-based fragrances and I find it hard to tell the difference between alcohol-based and water-based. Perhaps the only obvious characteristic is the somewhat thick residue that the fragrance leaves on the skin which I assume is the fragrance oils. The water-based component does not affect this fragrance's strength or longevity on the skin, in fact, To See a Flower has a very pleasant sillage cloud that can easily be amplified through a heavier application. I adore this fragrance, but admittedly I need to be in the mood to wear it. As a realistic, green and slightly dirty floral, Spring is the only time I find myself craving it. I am drawn to this fragrance for slightly sentimental reasons. My mother is an avid gardener and as a small child, I often picked fresh flowers from her garden and placed them in vases around the house. The scent of fresh blooms decaying slowly from stem to flower is a scent I am quite fond of. No perfume has come close to this aroma except for CB I Hate Perfume's To See a Flower.

God, I love this. It's truly original and very, very beautiful. I'm not familiar enough with most of the notes used to comment on the individually (sorry!), but overall, this is a meadow after a spring shower, the sun beating down on the damp earth, flowers in bloom. This is not your average floral. The opening is incredibly earthy. For some, this may be off-putting as it does have a dirt-like quality to it, so keep in mind this one won't be everyone's cup of tea by a long shot. The earth is so pure that it evokes memories of calm and peace. The strangest thing happened after these opening notes - the scent seemed to disappear on me. Me first thought was "Oh great, yet another niche fragrance with zero longevity", but then 20 minutes later, it just bloomed on me. The flowers were in full effect and there were hints of a lovely spice peeping out too. Aside from the strange 20 minute disappearance, I got about 6 hours out of this, with moderate sillage. My pillow smelled of it the next day. I'm having trouble finding this one in the UK, but as soon as I do, it's my next full bottle purchase. Original, earthy, floral in a very unique way and a little spicy. I'm in love.

To See a Flower, as the name indicates, is not so much a floral scent as it is the experience of walking into a florist and inhaling deeply. You can clearly detect notes of blooming flowers (rose, lily, jasmine, and a general "flower arrangement" smell) mixed with an icy accord of the chilled air and cold water coming from the refrigerator where boquets are kept. Also very prominent is the distinct aroma of fresh-cut flower stems, providing a true plant-like greenness that I have not experienced in any other fragrance, mixed with a slight potting soil accord in the opening that is redolent of the potted plants you'd see in the florist, but never becomes too dirty/earthy. While this fragrance is unisex, I feel it leans more towards the feminine side. Florals generally don't do well on my skin, but this would be magnificent on someone who loves realistic florals, rather than a fantasy floral accord. This fragrance has very pleasant moderate projection, and lasts about 6-8 hours on my skin. Works in any season, but is magnificent in the spring and summer!

First impression: Opening the door to a flower shop. Boom. All these flowers speaking to you at the same time. You can't hear one single voice; detect a note. This is indeed very intellectual scent. Cold, no heart. I'm agreeing with mongibella that it's a sterile scent. This is a examination,the analysis of a of a flower, no romanticizing and it's certainly not seductive. My first thought was that this is a very young girls scent, like a modern Diorissimo, very innocent and clear but still quite strong. Now I'm not that sure anymore, maybe it's austerity has a weird kind of kinkiness to it. I'll save the rest of my sample to next spring because To See a Flower really screams spring, maybe then I would't find it as awkward as I do at the moment. The longivity is a bummer.

Stemmy and green with a sprinkle of wet soil, To Se a Flower is highly naturalistic, but like others in the line, it relies on the petrichor effect of what I assume to be geosmin. This smells like a flower shop; the scent of wet stems placed onto paper prior to being trimmed, wrapped, or arranged. The individual flowers themselves aren’t the focus, though; it’s all about the crisp, green stems. Sadly, the lifespan is akin to the time it takes a leaf to fall to the ground—at least in the water perfume version. For something this diaphanous, the absolute is absolutely essential.

It is simply gorgeous, truly one can smell the soil and freshly cut greens as if in a flower shop. My great disappointment is with both the sillage and longevity: inexistent. You wear it, and 3 minutes later the spell is dispelled into thin air. I just wish it would grip and stay there a while longer, so to dream a little more. Too expensive to vanish so fast, it will remain an ephemeral dream, such as this gorgeous scent is: fleeting and sweet.

Absolute delight. It opens up with a clear wet soil and narcissus breeze, than almost immediately the hyacinth makes it glorious appearance, softly and elegantly like a king. The dry down it's a soft yet crisp embrace from oak moss and again soil, this time drier. I LOVE this fragrance and all those who came near me when I wore it found it mysteriously intoxicating. In my top 10, forever more!

A really different floral fragrance, because the usual suspects are noticeably absent. There isn't so much of a hint of rose, jasmine etc, just gorgeous wafts of light flowers that you don't come across as often in perfumes, with a hint of moss underneath. The effect is spring/summer sharp floral freshness which lasts for hours. Truly unique and well worth a try.

Dirt and tulips, first on, exactly. After about half an hour, the dirt fades back and it's a lovely floral wild flower, but that initial blast is like working in the garden, to such a degree that I can't consider it perfume so much as a sachet to invoke mood and memory, which is of course, what CB is about. Well done.

This smells like a woodland fairy who’s been digging in wet soil. It’s extremely green and photorealistic, but I find it quite sexy, somehow. The weak longevity is preventing me from adding this to my wishlist.
