Bois Dormant

Yes it’s transparent to a fault yea it’s a light wear but it projects we’ll believe it or not and lasts a good amount of time on skin. So I had a friend wear this to see if it was detectable when worn by others and it does the job. As for the smell this sits in the same wheelhouse as Prada lhomme Bois dargent and Dior homme although done more in a transparent fashion that in my opinion is very well done. The iris here is more woody than what we see in Dior I’d swear there is a small amount of vanilla to sweeten this up but just a touch. The juniper adds a nice greenness to the scent that is short lived and the vetiver is soft and sort of the type you would find in ELDO fat electrician but toned down. I do wish this had a bit more presence on skin but for what it is I’ll take it. It smells amazing.

I have this beauty for few months now and I think I am ready to write something about it. I think that this perfume might indeed contain some real orris butter, because when I smell it next to my orris absolute they smell very similar! As the name suggests Bois Dormant is more woody take on orris, opening is little bit fresh citrusy and later white orris butter and iso e super/cedar creates dusty, powdery, woody sensation. I think that this may seems simple, but orris has many facets from powdery, woody to leathery. Projection isn’t huge as others have mentioned, it is rather subdued as many orris/iris scents.

Wow! Bois Dormant indeed. Another Celine fragrance that creates a pang of nostalgia in me. Circa November 1993 in NY. The scent: Crisp air with wafts of chimney smoke. Dried, broken oak tree leaves that cling to your hair and coat from running around playing hide and seek. The smell of clay mixed with dirt from the mud pies your making with your friends and siblings. I have Dior Homme and Homme intense and this smells NOTHING like those two. This fragrances truly smells like being outside amount hibernating trees in fall and winter.

Absolutely beautiful! It's smooth, little bit sweet, little bit creamy and little bit woody. Blended perfectly! It has the same vibe as Black Tie, that subtle luxury feeling and smell. Only downside is performance and sillage like any other perfume from this line. The most prominent note to my nose is orris, cedar and juniper. I'm gonna buy Black Tie first (once it gets back in stock) and Bois Dormant will be my second bottle from Celine for sure.

I owned Le Peau Nue but didn't like the combination of vetiver and rose. Here, though it somehow seems to work better. The fulcrum is the cedar it just blends better with vetiver than a sweet powdery rose IMO. The orris tames down the masculine effect and gives it just enough gentleness for a woman to wear. It feels like a chic Parisienne wearing an oversized, pin stripe men's suit in the coolest way.

It is really good, definitely in line with the rest of the Céline DNA, so if you're not a fan of the signature, you might want to pass. As others said, I don't see a particular link with Black Tie aside from the collection's backbone. For me, it starts very similar to Cologne Française and Parade, relatively fresh and powdery Cologne-like, but the Dior Homme link appears very quickly. It is at this point that it is the closer to Eau de Californie as well due to the woodiness, but minus the smoky side of EdC (coming from the Palo Santo). As a fan of the line and of its signature, and as a fan of Dior Homme OG, it's a match made in heaven for me but some people might find that it is too close to other scents in the line to justify buying a FB. Definitely unisex, this would smell great on a woman too. EDIT: On another note, just wanted to flag how poor their customer service is. I received my Bois Dormant and despite the website claiming they send a matching sample for you to try before you open the main box (and a complementary sample of another scent), I didn't have any sample in my order. Just 2 empty holes. I emailed them to let them know and they simply replied "we're out of samples". When I enquired when they would receive them again as I needed to test before opening the main box, no reply. Same at the shop, "no we're out and we send them upon availability anyway." Sorry but no, that's part of your offering clearly stated on the website. If only their manners were as good as their scents....

Bois Dormant is another understated, sophisticated scent from Celine, featuring iris prominently, but in a different manner to La Peau Nue or Rimbaud. BD is a more masculine iris scent, aromatic and woody, similar to Dior Homme, but lighter and fresher. BD has a fresh, aromatic opening, with a pine-like juniper note evident up top, followed closely by powdery orris. The orris develops, smooth and buttery while remaining powdery. The juniper lifts the orris, imbuing it with crisp freshness, making for a nuanced balance. It becomes dry as it develops, with a prominent woody accord coming to the fore, a seamless progression from the aromatic opening. I get something akin to tonka bean here too, adding a touch of balsamic smoothness to the base. The iris lingers, fading softly until it becomes a powdery skin scent with grassy vetiver remaining. Sillage is intimate and longevity is moderate. It is unisex, a transeasonal daytime scent. A subtle, elegant scent, BD is very much in keeping with the Celine DNA. However, while pleasant and good-quality, it is one of the more forgettable Celines in my opinion, and is unnecessary considering the existence of (the cheaper and better performing) Dior Homme. 3/5.

This is a simple, elegant, French type of fragrance. Opens with an almost powdery juniper/citrus combination but it's clearly underpinned with complementary woods of cedar and vetiver, softened with 'that' orris vanillic feel from Celine later on. That is the story of Bois Dormant. Cannot for the life of me understand any comparisons to Dior Homme, I mean if you wanna say Dior Homme is a better fragrance than this... then fine...I'd agree with that statement but... it's apples and oranges. The intent of this fragrance is clear and I think it nails the brief. I can't really think of a naturalistic, citrus cologne, cedar/juniper with those soft base elements in a cheaper price bracket (not saying they don't exist) but I think I'm reasonably happy with the quality and textural subtlety of this, albeit for a high price. That being said, I reckon it's one of my least favourites of these but no shame, they're a good line.

slowly working my way through the celine discovery set and this has that same smooth powdery buttery orris DNA as black tie. simple and sophisticated, but i don’t feel the same draw and pull to it as i do black tie. this entire house seems to know how to do simple fragrances that aren’t boring or passable extremely well. sure they’re very expensive and it’s up to each person to decide if the price is worth it, but it’s refreshing to smell extremely simple & high quality fragrances that aren’t boring or the opposite end of the spectrum as extremely challenging and polarizing.

First spray especially on clothes is a slightly sweet, rich, juniper rooty orris/cedar combo, that classic Celine DNA. But up close on skin, you can get a pepper cumin borderline BO smell (like, cumin normally lol) but I don't hate it - it's kinda fascinating paired with the sweet iris/cedarwood and makes it interesting. And then, sometimes because of the bergamot it smells like a rich olive oily citrus soap on top of that. I love all the directions it takes.

A cumin heart laid on a soft and creamy wood. The spicy cumin starts off strong but tames itself in the drydown. The resulting drydown has a warm nuance to the cumin. Cumin isn't my thing, and my skin really emphasises it so this is definitely not for me. Nice scent, nothing too complex but decently well executed.

I REALLY wanted this to be "the one" that I purchase FB from the collection, only it leans just too slightly masculine on my skin. The powder, fluffiness and soft woods are all there, its GORGEOUS, just for me personally it doesnt get there. I'll wait a few months and try again - I'm determined ;)

Masculine leaning slightly fruity & smooth woody floral scent?? Hell yeah! This is my first time seeing this combo and honestly i like it. Sillage and longevity are moderate, but the scent profile is genuinely worth the bottle. It's comfortable masc scent that i actually kinda like to own.

I love the scent of this, similar to Dior Homme's . Not sure if anyone is getting minimal projection on skin like me?

Dry woods and iris with a powdery elegance. Masculine tailoring in scent form.

Not much of the promised gin, I get buttery orris root in the usual house style and soft coconutty woods with a lick of juniper wood and pepper. A deep hit of bergamot brightens things. Enjoyable, it has a pleasant, creamy, cedary smoothness, were it not for my aversion to coconut... Retrying at home, away from the hustle and bustle of the store, the gin-juniper note is more apparent in the opening. I can’t help but think there’s unlisted sandalwood, the Australian variety, providing that coconut accent. (It can’t be just cedar blended with orris root can it?) It's still likeable, it makes me think of polished wood furniture. As others have pointed out there’s a definite hint of cumin spice as well. And It improves as it dries, the vetiver becomes stronger and sharper, taking down the coconut but the orris root pushes through as well, as with so many Celines, so you have to be up for that.

A quiet whisper of the Celine orris root we are all too familiar with, softly powdery and earthily woody, enveloped in something calming—a sage accord to my nose, though never named. It feels gentle, subtle, like the scent of herbs scattered over fabric stored in a cedar-lined drawer, infused with time rather than intention. Juniper berries flicker most quietly in the background, not sharp or piney as they typically are, just serving to contribute to the cool and aromatic nature of Bois Dormant, cool in the non-chilly sense, sort of like autumn air at dusk. Despite the well-thought out details of this fragrance, the most jarring issue to me is perhaps the lack of depth, lack of movement, with this fragrance starring a muted hum of woods and powder, faint and fleeting. Okay, but forgettable. Fabric in a cedar-lined drawer, pleasant as is but never exposed to the beauty of the living world.

warm, powdery, peppery, woody fragrance that doesn’t shout. in fact I wish it spoke a little louder. very celine. verrrryyy intimate projection. basically none. definitely get the cumin vibe as others have said and it’s a little off putting, but overall I think this one smells good for a man. there’s a quiet, reserved masculinity about it. like a spicy DHI. I just wish the projection was better because it’s sooooo faint it feels like robbery at this price.

Pencil shavings then cumin. I would never want to smell like BO intentionally but that’s what this smells like in me. All the other Celine fragrances are lovely.

Orris, vanilla, woods, and..... cumin? If it's not cumin it's something that approximates the B.O. nature of that. Interesting, but not something I want to smell like.

It smells like walking through a cloud of designer perfume in Macy's.

I wish I’d have read down to the reviews that mentioned cumin because I never would have sampled this. If your skin/chemistry blows up cumin like mine does, you’ll probably hate this. There is also a very distinct petroleum smell on me. I’ve tried 5-6 Celine’s, and liked or loved them but there is nothing I like about this one. I had just taken my shower and put this on and then felt like I had to shower again. Rank!

Get yourself some Dior Homme Intense; it's better in every way. Mediocre performance. You're welcome.

The top of this is ALL juniper on me. And I love it! Juniper and cypress (still not totally sure if they're the same thing...but the smells are definitely related!) have this unique piney, somewhat sweaty, somewhat turpentine-like quality to them, and that is showcased here in full force. The smooth, orris root accord at the center of all Celine fragrances is definitely here too. I'm sure vanilla is included in that...but I don't REALLY see a huge connection between this scent and the super vanillic Black Tie more than I see a connection between all the rest of the scents in this collection. After awhile, the Celine scent aesthetic can feel a little "same-same" since the family resemblance is SO strong on pretty much all of them, but the overall scent profile is lovely, so I'm not complaining. Eau de Californie is definitely in the same vein--a distinct woody note over creamy orris--but some may find that one overall easier to wear as the "difficult" or pungent aspects of juniper are definitely on display here and more aggressive than the sweeter, more lactonic palo santo of EdC.

Beautiful. Definitely a sibling of Dior Homme’s iris iterations and Dior Spice Blend. Need to get a full wearing in, but first impression tells me this is a must-buy for anyone who likes the aforementioned fragrances and likes Celine’s Hedi Slimane fragrances. Update: After a full wearing, let me share some more thoughts on this one. It is a BO/sweaty/cumin take on my bottle of Dior Homme 2015 that I own. For that reason, I definitely see similarities to Eau de Californie. If you were in the camp that thought Dior Homme was feminine or metrosexual, try this release. Take Celine Black Tie, remove a lot of the vanilla, and mix it with Cartier Declaration. I find it to be a masculine fragrance, more masculine than Black Tie. Performance is moderate, nothing to write home about but also it’s not bad enough that people will be clamoring to return their bottles. Final note: it smells more natural, less cloying, and less harsh than Dior Homme 2015. Dior Homme 2015 is by no means a synthetic or rough fragrance, but this Celine shows you why Dior Homme is $80 and not $250

An elegant woody scent that immediately transports me to a sunlit park, Bois Dormant has the same cultured, yet verdant air I find in Chanel’s Sycomore. The two scents could be siblings, with Bois Dormant giving me a much subtler, more grounded (though less nuanced), portrayal of a day in the woods than Sycomore, with its dramatic shadowplay and descriptive details. Here, the trees really are sleepy, their canopies stirring softly in the haze of their vetiver dream, their cedar base plushy and as inviting as velvet. The orris ties in beautifully with the theme of rest, going from the bright, bergamot and juniper lightened kind to a more luscious and buttery expression as the notes deepen. Beautifully done!! To me, Bois Dormant is an absolutely gorgeous simultaneously soothing and uplifting scent, that is well worth a sniff.

I obtained a sample of Bois Dormant. I don't know if I am anosmic to this scent. I know it is original because it came in the same box with my full bottle of Black tie, directly from the company. It has a strong orange/bergamont scent for the first 2-3 minutes, later it becomes a soft skin scent with a very smoky vetiver, orris and some woody note, maybe some ambroxan there too. I do get the slight cumin note as the reviewer below. But I have to get my nose very close to the skin to smell it. I would not buy this scent at all. So expensive and so faint! The fragrance itself is elegant, masculine and very nice, but I think there are better options with a similar profile that don't cost > $250 a bottle and you can actually smell it without so much effort.

Citrus powdered woods mix with the Celine dna yum yummy fragrance. This can easily be a signature fragrance it can be worn year round except maybe the harsh winter. I can see this being worn by chic females who likes wearing Chanel and Celine bags. I’m a man and I like this a lot while I’m not a signature fragrance guy I can see me running through a bottle easily because how effortlessly elegant this is. I think I need the 200ml bottle so I can spray this like no tomorrow.

Beautiful fragrance, however there’s something in this that causes me to go nose blind within minutes - lol. Edit: I got home after sampling Bois Dormant and I compared it to Dior Homme OG & Intense. They’re not exactly the same but they’re definitely relatives. Hedi Slimane, the current creative head at Celine, was the creative head of Dior during the inception & release of Homme during the 2000’s - these fragrances seem like relatives.

Fluffy cloud of powdered woods and sweet orris. The juniper and citrus notes are very subtle. This is bliss. So incredibly soft and smooth, I think this is gorgeous. This smells like quiet luxury. This would be great on a handsome well dressed man or on a woman, equally beautiful, totally unisex. I need a full bottle in my near future.

Have to agree with everyone else on the thread, that this has a weird dry down. Opening is a beautiful soft vanillic Iris, with woods around it. But something going on with the cedar in the dry down is leading to this kind of spicy food feeling. Someone else called it “food seasoning” 🤣☠️ Gorgeous opening but not a lot else

I am surprised that no one mentions the quite important vanilla note in this. Perhaps this is what we all mean by Celine DNA—powdery orris and warm vanilla. But it is really the vanilla in this that smooths out all the edges of the woods and aromatics and lets this be so soft and lovely.

A fresh, summery version of Dior Homme Intense. There's a lovely buttery iris that blends out into a finely milled powder. There's the subtlest hint of juniper adding a cooling effect and finally in the dry down, an assertive virginian cedarwood takes the centre. Unisex and pleasant.

Like all fragrances in this line, this smells classy and luxurious, all remain a tough call for a full bottle purchase given the price and how muted they are, but the quality and beauty are there. One of the very few lines that I accept the price for the quality.

Worse version of Dior homme this is just a muted version of Dior homme with woods and cumin. The only thing this has going for it is the quality of the ingredients but why even bother when this fades like wind and turns into food spices.

Very similiar to Dior homme intense. This one is a softer, airier version of DHI. DHI is a bit stronger, darker and sharper. Both are amazing but this one doesn't seem to last, died away off my wrist after 20 minutes.

Can't wait to smell this one. This line has one of the most classy and high quality presentations that I've personally seen in the designer realm. The packaging, bottle design, caps, labels etc.

Beautiful soft perfume, very discreet. Loving the soft powdery notes whilst the spiciness adds an interesting layer of mystery to the scent. Very Celine. Loving this one.

It started well, but after a little while, it smelled like strong cumin on me... I never had any other perfume smelling like that (at least, on me) :-(

The Celine customer service team did confirm that Bois Dormant will be phased out this year. I bought a 200 ml bottle as part of my prepper stash.

I wanted a bottle sooo bad but never got to it :(
