Nightclubbing

Okay I just wanted to update with how I feel about this fragrance. It's only been like 12 hours (still have not been outside my house), but I keep oscillating between obsession and regret with this. The more I smell it, the more I obsess over it, but then I immediately remember how it smells exactly like Jazz Club. Even though I always adored it, I never bought Jazz Club myself because I don't support companies owned by L'Oreal for political reasons, so I'm really going off my own memory, but when I tell you it smells the same I'm not joking. I keep harping on about this because there are almost no reviews of this or the entire collection. And seeing how this collection (and many others like it) is only available in select Céline boutiques, I had no way of smelling it for myself. I went in completely blind with no point of reference as to how this would smell. I keep asking myself if I would have bought this knowing what I know now, and honestly? I think I still would. Make no mistake, while the drydown is extremely similar, Nightclubbing stands on it's own. It's more dynamic, and a bit more polarizing, I feel it does a better job capturing a memory and feeling better than some of the Replica series. Admittedly, I only picked this one because the name, "Nightclubbing". What a fun name! Is it an homage to Grace Jones? An ode to discotheques and gay bars? Both? SIGN ME THE FUCK UP! All in all, I have to wonder if I'm telling myself all this to justify paying $245 for it. But I think I can finally rest easy. I was never going to buy Jazz Club despite how much I wanted it, so finding a fragrance that not only duplicated that scent, but expanded upon and improved it leaves me feeling a little more confident in my purchase. I want to add that this lasts much longer on the skin than on fabrics. It's bizarre, I've never had a fragrance that lasts longer on the skin than on clothes, but I sprayed it on my shirt and my pillow, and it IMMEDIATELY vanished, yet the one spray on the back of my hand is still going, even after a nap. I'm also going to have to change my longevity score, because it's going on 6 hours now. Still very much a skin scent (to me atleast) I hope this helps anyone considering buying this fragrance completely blind. I know I'm rambling and mincing words, but I wish I had a review like this to help me decide before I outright bought it on a whim. I'll continue to update! (i paid over $200 for this, best believe i'm not going to shut the fuck up about it!)

Just received my bottle so here are my first impressions. I must say I'm a little disappointed. The scent itself is quite nice; smokey & boozy just the way I like. But it's weakest point is the projection, or lack thereof. Given how dark the juice is and the price I paid, I was really expecting it to be louder and to last longer. The longevity is pretty weak, but not as bad as other fragrances in this collection. I'm getting about 2 hours, *maybe* this could last for 3, but it's already fading on me after 45 minutes. The name is certainly befitting of this scent. I'd say the description listed does the most accurate job of describing it. Definitely heavy on the nicotine! I mean, my goodness, I'm practically second-hand smoking at this point! But that nicotine fades into a lovely powdery note, and then the booze kicks in. At this point, it turns into Jazz Club by Maison Margiela. But where as Jazz Club is a more relaxed, laid back night at a lounge, Nightclubbing is a night of bar hopping, dancing, coming home and crashing on your bed fully clothed with your shoes still on and confetti in your hair. The scent overall is very masculine, ESPECIALLY in the opening, I can't imagine women reaching for this, unless she's a chain smoker. As I said before, it's VERY nicotine-y, so I think it may put some people off, but it's more of a powdery nicotine, which I suppose can give it a feminine edge. Overall, it's not bad, but is it worth $220? My answer? Probably not. Maybe it's the buyers remorse that always follows an expensive purchase, or maybe it's because I haven't gone out and heard people's reaction to it, but I can't help but feel underwhelmed. For nearly half the price you can buy Jazz Club and get the same vibe (and the same 3.4oz size). Perhaps I'll comeback after quarantine has lifted and have gone out clubbing exactly like this fragrance intended, but for now, if you've been considering buying this yourself I would say proceed with caution. The packaging is gorgeous tho! Hedi always sweats the details, and we appreciate that.

This is so addicting. Love at first sniff. I do wish the beginning lasted a bit longer with more intensity, but it still has alright staying power. I am getting roughly six or so hours wear time with one spray on the back of my hand from my sample, and it’s heavenly from beginning to end. This fragrance is so me. It reminds me of Poets of Berlin by Vilhelm, mostly in the far dry down of that fragrance. They are quite different but the vibes are similar. Nightclubbing is more sophisticated but doesn’t last as long as Poets. I am so close to biting the bullet and buying a full bottle. I can’t stop thinking about this smell, my sample will never be enough. Update: I finally broke down and bought a bottle. Paid in full upfront, ordered from Celine's website. It shipped very fast and I had my bottle within the same week. It is so rare for me to feel like paying full price, all at once for a fragrance. But nightclubbing has me in a chokehold. This bottle is the star of my whole collection. Celine really sold me on this one with the narrative, and to me it is so beautifully executed. It's like this fragrance was custom made just for me. And yes, it is a more subtle type of scent but it definitely still wears well and can be noticed by others. I sprayed this on in my car before meeting some friends, when I got out of the car my friend remarked that he could smell me from about 20 feet away. I think our noses sometimes need time to warm up to a new fragrance, as well as the fragrance often needs some time to mature in its bottle. From the time I got my sample, until I finally got the full bottle I was spraying this on the back of my hand every single day, sometimes multiple times per day, its really all I want to smell. But I am starting to force myself to use my other fragrances, give Nightclubbing a break every few days because I find that if I don't smell it for a day or so its more potent when I do spray it again. I am overjoyed to finally have a bottle of this.

Nightclubbing (great name) is my final Celine sample to try, a pretty good note to end on. The Celine DNA is very much present here - muted, powdery and oh-so-chic. Nightclubbing is (unsurprisingly, given its name) one of their evening offerings. A high-quality, beautifully-composed scent, this is deeply satisfying and very aptly named. I would prefer stronger performance, but it is excellent regardless. Nightclubbing opens with an ashtray accord, smoky up top, but quickly becoming mossy and herbal, thanks to the oakmoss note. A cloud of patchouli follows closely, complementing the smokiness to perfection while tempering it somewhat. It wears fairly close to the skin, and is much more muted and nuanced that it sounds - it is perhaps the most elegant ashtray accord I've ever smelled. Powdery orris follows, seamlessly melding with the smoky, mossy opening while taking this scent to the next phase. A hint of dry, powdery vanilla emerges after a little while, so far, so Celine. It becomes a soft, powdery skin scent fairly quickly, the dry, sweet vanilla alongside a cloud of clean musk. Sillage is initially moderate, but becomes a skin scent quite quickly, and longevity is moderate. It is a unisex take on vanilla, best worn in autumn/winter. Equal parts cool and chic, Nightclubbing manages to be wearable while being unusual. Evocative of its name without being too on-the-nose, it is more wearable as a result, and far superior to any other "nightclub" themed scent I've tried - for example, Jazz Club is cosplay to Nightclubbing's couture. Edgy, nonchalant elegance. 4.5/5.
