Proxima

If you watch the perfumer's youtube video, and ignore the marketing gimmicks, it makes a lot more sense. If you want to give this a fair shot, disregard the branding. In short, he is a well-known perfume reviewer who set out to create a perfume he likes that nobody else was creating. Heavily inspired by perfume oils of ancient Egypt, but with a new interpretation. In that, he succeeds astoundingly well. The perfume feels so luxurious when applied to the skin, presumably due to the type of oil used for extraction. And the scent—although originally not my cup of tea—is a true work of art. All three of the centauri scents are VERY similar, with strong honey/musk permeating. Proxima’s citrus lightens it a bit compared to the others. I dont get the berries specifically. I would definitely recommend these warming scents are better for cold weather and would probably overpower in summer...which may be why I initially took a pass on this (ordered samples in summer). Originally, I had not planned to purchase this and gave the samples of all three to my mother who loves it. However, I keep thinking about this one. Cant get it out of my head, like a really good indie film that you think to yourself as the credits roll "well that was stupid" but then you keep thinking about it and cant stop playing it over in your brain until you eventually realize you LOVED it after all. Needless to say, this is on my wishlist. High sillage, short duration.

I am revisiting some of my collection and today Im wearing PROXIMA by Centauri Perfumes! Its very ozonic and fresh and tbh I love the synthetic berries and the absolute cleanness of this fragrance. The white woods and aldehyde reminds me of a beach scent without any salty marine notes. Very clean! You will not have ANYONE smelling like you! Dont you kinda cringe when someone has your fragrance on and its too much (I remember a couple guys back in High School) wearing Joop! Homme a year or 2 after I started wearing it and boy did they over do it and some kids noticed it on me and asked if I had copied them??? Lol No ! Absolutely not ! Ufff Ive never smelled something on someone and asked them what it was and went out and purchased it. Never ever! I was always a loner and when I went out they were asking me and I would just tell people... “dont worry you’ll never find it” lol this drove them nuts! Lol but back to Proxima. I love love this! Peter is such a cool guy and has a very unique style of perfumery. Not to mention he did everything for Centauri on his own! And a lovely designed bottle and packaging too. I got the sample set of Peter's first three fragrances and this one was by far my favorite! It was love at first spray! Such a beautiful uplifting scent. Wore it a few times to make sure I really loved and I ended up buying a bottle a few days later. It has nice lasting power for a fresher scent. While it does contain synthetics and is a crowd pleaser it is in no way boring or generic to me.

I love this. It's both simple and creative. Fruity and a very, very light floral. Airy too. I mainly smell the sweet fruits and grapefruit along with that soft floral. Very unisex, I'm happy to wear it and have many deep Niche scents so don't be put off with the profile. Amazing, beautiful bottle. Easily worth the money considering it isn't cheap per ml.

To me this brings to mind pink champagne. The grapefruit and berries stay with the fragrance throughout the dry down, which features a gorgeous clean white musk. The iris and jasmine add a smooth richness. I find this utterly sublime and the longevity is fantastic on me.

This is one of my favorite perfumes, it's very unique as it really does smell like fresh air from a different planet. Clean, fruity and atmospheric.

Proxima is my first sampling of Centauri Perfumes, the house owned, perfumed, and launched by Peter Carter (of the YouTube channel FragranceView) in late 2019. Proxima is the most recent release of the three and I wanted to try it first since it seemed more warm-weather-friendly and today is a little warmer than the next two days. It’s named for Proxima Centauri, the closest star to our solar system. The initial mix of grapefruit and aldehydes confirms my suspicions, its rich, tart, sparkly mix being fresh and invigorating, apt for a warm day, especially. It’s fruity, too, with the blackcurrant and strawberry, with the rose giving it a sort of “rose champagne” vibe, with iris, jasmine, and blonde woods to round things out. Overall, it’s a bright, pleasant, citrus/fruity/floral/aldehydic bouquet that’s quite lovely. It does soften and end up a bit smoother over time from the initial sharp burst but the balance seems to remain mostly the same, with the blackcurrant and strawberry taking over for the grapefruit and aldehydes over time. I’m definitely a fan and will have to give it a couple of more tries. I don’t know anything too comparable in terms of the grapefruit/aldehyde combination. Bravo to Peter on this creation. Proxima is priced at $135 for 30ml, in extrait concentration, and is available in the US at Luckyscent and Ave Parfum, and can also be shipped directly from Centauri Perfumes in the UK, at £82 plus what I assume is a higher shipping cost. 7 out of 10

Let me start by saying I really like the house and am a fan of the perfumer and his channel. While I thought Dendera and Gaea were great if not masterpieces, Proxima leaves me wanting. Maybe because my hopes were so so high after his first two releases, my expectations were unrealistic. Basically to me this smelled like currant and berries and the grapefruit reminded me of sweet tart smarties candies. When the tartness from the opening subsided I then got more airy and powdery or dusty notes as the fragrance developed. Stays sweet and fruity the life of the scent. I guess it makes sense it is a sort of simple fragrance as its supposed to smell like the air on a new world. For me it smells feminine and youthful, but damn is the bottle gorgeous. Still happy I purchased the fragrance as I want to support the brand, I'll just let my lady friends spray it whenever they please. Edit: I've had a couple women friends (in their 20s) wear this now and it definitely smells good on them. They both really enjoyed it. The best part was the dry down after the berries had faded a bit as I think the iris and musk work well together giving this powdery clean but also still sweet scent, all being grounded by the slightest bit of woodiness.

Happy. Proxima starts with a huge blast of grapefruit with sweet fruity sparkles. Are you familiar with Pomelo Paradis? Then think of its opening, make it stronger, sweeter, fruitier, and you’ll have a good idea of how this one opens. It may smell a bit like a berry-citrusy shampoo, but when the grapefruit is allowed to fade away, the fragrance comes alive. A slow transition reveals the base: a fluffy musk pillow enveloping a faint woody accord and vanilla-sweetened fruity florals. Straightforward, pretty, fizzy, bright, strong, and easy to like.

It’s a pretty scent, you get the grapefruit, fruit, blackcurrant and musk right in the opening. To my nose, it is fairly linear, with the musk becoming more prominent in the background. It’s a bit screechy, something along he lines of what I’ve smelled in Titian’s Terenzi’s perfumes. It lasts 24h + on clothes. I would wear 1 spray of this in the office or to go shopping in spring time.

To my nose is reminds me of Burberry Her. I have a friend who has a bottle of Burberry Her and damn i don't know if it's my skin chemistry with Proxima that smells kinda like Burberry Her.

Of the three, released by this perfumer, this was the most surprising. It's a synthetic overly sweet fruit blend by someone who probably hasn't smelled the massive amounts of designer fruity gourmands in all its variations out there to know how common this sort of thing is. Synthetics can produce far more complexity and originality than this. This is designer level and if it wasn't for the unique luxury bottle, expensive for what it is. The berries smell so artificial, like bubblegum berries. The progression from top to base is pleasant and wearable, very safe. I personally like Gaea the most, it was unique, a not sweet honey, and the drydown is the best. If Proxima is the Future, it smells awfully naive, an AI dreaming of sweet fruits having never tasted the real stuff.

Just tried Proxima from Centauri Perfumes and I do have to say I'm extremely disappointed... This is nothing like Dendera or Gaea in terms of quality of ingredients or creation. I did not buy Dendera or Gaea since they are a bit too creative for my taste, but I can appreciate the originality and quality of ingredients. But this... I mean... Opens up with a huge blast of Blackcurrant, extremely sweet and dare I say cloying. That Blackcurrant is staying for the duration and honestly smells like a cheap designer, very synthetic. Leans very very feminine. Think of it like Date for Men, on the same ballpark... I'm not really sure what's went on with this. Sorry Peter, but you have to work better on this next time.

I think Peter needs more time to become better at this art. In my humble opinion none of his creations are up there with brands in that price range such as Guerlain, Serge Lutens, Kilian, Tauer etc. The bottles are beautiful though and Peter is a nice guy, i like and respect him fir his great reviews and the persistence he carries.

Some people actually create a profile to write a review on this fragrance ? Sad story. Synthetic fragrance with boring drydown. 82 pounds for 30 ml for this kind of fragrances ? really ? Think twice before you blindly follow someone. Don't be a sheep.

Dendera- Great. Gaea- Good. Proxima-Bad. Pretty much what others have said. Generic, synthetic, fruity feminine etc. I am hoping future perfumes match Dendera, which IMO is the best from the house and a fine fragrance overall.

Nothing like Dendera or Gaea. This is boring fruity, non lasting. agree with many of the negative reviews below.

Smells like shampoo. That's it. And it doesn't project or last.

Sadly a disappointment. An attempt to make an aquatic gourmand the perfume comes across as an unfinished somewhat synthetic smelling scent on skin. The scent opens with aldehydes, citrus and berries. The heart is rose, jasmine, iris and ozonic notes. The perfume settles on a bed of synthetic musk with some slight powdery woods. The perfume does not feel natural at all and has a clear screechy vibe which quietens with time. Unisex with moderate to strong sillage and good longevity. The best thing sadly about the scent is the bottle.

My own inconsistency feeling about his words and actions came across last fall.When he declared his brand’s launch.I remember what ran through my mind back then – “oy,vey” and “danger,danger,danger”...I know how deceptive our own ego can be.How people tend to overestimate themselves most of the times.From my personal experience and the experience of many people around me. Being a good literature critic doesn’t automatically make you a Norman Mailer,Paul Auster or John Fowles. Max Kellerman would never be Floyd Mayweather or Conor McGregor. Roger Ebert never became Al Pacino or Stanley Kubrick. So,maybe it was a huge mistake to assume,that a small YouTube perfume blogger would easily turn into another Alessandro Gualtieri? I don’t know.Nobody knew.Let’s see.And we saw...And it was damn obvious... I’m not even gonna waste my time talking about his rush to launch the brand at a certain day and time,and all the mistakes and blunders that came with it.He was 100% unprepared by the launch time.His logistics was faulty and raw. I’m also not gonna talk about his product price range – it is ridiculous.A pure absurd! But the perfumes...Oh,those 3 “magical” juices (finally got all of the 3 samples)...Mediocre and banal at the best : “Dendera” is the better one out of 3.Not the formula – I smelled lots of similar – but the quality of the juice. “Gaea” – pfffff...Ok,honey,and that’s it? “Proxima” – a cheap bottled fruit punch... Peter,is that it?That’s the best you can produce?That’s what all the hype was about?That’s what you tought us,your subscribers,for years? Talking about buying a bottle of “Centauri”?You must be kidding me!I’d better buy 2 or 3 well known brands for the same price! A huge disappointment.Another sad zilch story...

First, Proxima. This perfume is wonderful. If you like the cassis note, you will love this. On inhale, It makes me close my eyes and sigh in that way when a great perfume grabs your heart. There should be a word for this. Nose gasp? Well, I’m not keen on typical gourmands or fruit as they come off harsh bright and tropical. This is alluring, sensuous black currant and iris and is delicious. It does have a freshness on opening, that people call ozonic and I tend to think a little minty, but I love the ambergris note on drydown. It’s a complex, beautiful perfume that is unique, I’ve never smelled anything like it. I avoid the big brand names as they are way to samey or obvious. I go for the unicorns, the weird, cool, vibrant lovelies that don’t smell like anything else. This def fits that category for me, or at least I never have smelled any fruity gourmands like this. They always have that Tonia bean or pepper in, which I can’t stand. This one is sultry and to me, so feminine, I can’t get unisex at all. If a guy was wearing this, I would be surprised. Second, Peter & Centauri.. I have such dry skin, perfume never lasts on me, but Peters perfumes last all day long, one spritz. I always find them complex and unique. I completely disagree with Donkar, these perfumes completely stand on their own merit, and in my mind, do not need to compete with Guerlain and the likes, as he is selling niche artisanal parfum for the parfum connoisseur, not commercial get one for your granny for xmas type of perfumes at a department store. Gaia, for example can compete completely against Clinique aromatics elixir. (Gaia is a studio ghibli movie in a perfume, so Complex as it unfolds, im not a honey fan though) They are not watered down and just like everything else to reach a greater audience, They are heady, complex, interesting, brilliant. Will they suit everyone? Certainly not. Worth getting some samples? Yes!

Peter intended to create a futuristic profile of all synthetic materials in this fragrance, aside from the authentic Jasmin Sambac. The scent is a powerhouse of grapefruit, black currant, strawberry and aldehyde. I do find the ozonic quality to be a refreshing accord with the fruits. For my personal taste, the grapefruit can become cloying because the volume of that note never gets turned down. Even after 8 hours of wear, this is still going to provide you a strong fruit and berry scent trail. Does it smell synthetic? Yes. No doubt. Is it intended to? Yes. No doubt. This does not remind me of anything I’ve ever smelled (and I’ve smelled a catalogue of fragrances) so for the creativity and uniqueness I give it a 10/10. If I were to smell this blindly and have to guess the Niche house of the fragrance I would have said it was Nasomatto’s take on a synthetic fruit. For the longevity:10/10. For the scent, the very subjective part, I give it a 6.5/10. Synthetic isn’t usually my style, so try it for yourself. For the price: 7/10. For the presentation: 10/10. Age range: any, but it smells young and energetic. Time of year to wear this scent: warmer days. Late spring and summer. Thank you for your hard work, Peter.

Lasts quite well on my skin. A unique, fruity, futuristic, musky scent from new indie perfumer Peter Carter's Centauri Perfumes house. To me, the wild berry accord comes across almost tropical, not as dark as I'd expected, especially with black currant in the mix as well. It's a bright, effervescent, aldehydic, musky, fruity floral perfume that is quite likable and has performance that is enviable to the rest of us indie perfumers who struggle to make perfumes that perform well. Dries down with a modicum of sweetness. with white woods and musk being the last detectable notes to disappear several hours later. To me, it seems some of the sweet floral and berry notes extend into the drydown, giving it the mysterious, though not overbearing, sweetness. While I've heard this is the most mass appealing of Peter's offerings (I've not tried the other two yet), I still find it refreshingly unique. I've not smelled anything quite like it, though it has some aspects of familiarity. Really, a very lovely fragrance, performs well, smells great, and buying it couldn't be supporting a nicer guy. Well done, Peter!

I LOVE this perfume by centauri but the pity is that i wouldnt have discovered It before buying kirke by Tiziana terenzi because for me are too similar to have both. Próxima is a very fruity scent, sweet with a very nice mix of fruits. However at the same time It has a very airy, soapy and fresh vibe thank to the aldehides and the airy Accord, so is very weareable any time. It have a very soft flowers mix Also, where i think the most noticeable is the iris, given to the perfume a powdery accent, and a very subtle Woody smell at back. To the dry down It becomes more musky, which gives to the fragance a very good longevity. The sillage of the perfume is quité good, perceptible from more than 2 meters away. As the fruity perfume It is i find It unisex, although i suposed women would like It more probably than men. I think this is a good option for everyday use or as Office fragance. As i have said at the beginning if i wouldnt have kirke i Will buy this one without any doubt. Scent: 9 Longevity: 8 Sillage: 8 Quality/price: 7 Versatility: 9 Originality: 7.5 Global: 8.5

All Peter tastes are more about what he wants to find than what he see. A new planet,Without no one else, nothing familiar... with musk and iris and such small panorama, is not new. Could be called "What I want my room to smell". Peter should decide if he wants perfumes to keep being his comfort zone of his expanded perceptions. Of course there are costs, but for that price, smelling "what the brand owner wants to smell everywhere" is not very good. What can be said. 100% of props for him bringing his project into reality, but long steps need to be given before it gets really serious as a concept for the minds and not a product for the mass. Is hard to expect from the first scents of a brand. Is like expecting babies in cirque du soleil while the huge majority is only there to see the same jokes and atractions. At least he don't do cringy flips and use more makeup than he should...

Proxima opens with a blast of berries, bright, a little futuristic, and definitely attention-grabbing. But not long after, a wave of synthetic musk takes over. It’s clean in a way that reminds me of high-end laundry detergent smooth, sterile, and persistent. Not harsh, just not quite what I was hoping for. Also I could be allergic to grapefruit. The bottle is a standout, truly otherworldly and beautifully designed. And I have a soft spot for Peter. You can feel the intention and care, even if the final scent doesn’t sit quite right on me. I wanted to love this more than I do. Still, I appreciate the creativity, some people I have heard, absolutely love it.

I get the comparison with the air from another planet, but objectively this smells like a fruity champagne for kids, or some other kind of a fizzy sweet beverage sweet black currant and berries give it a similar vibe to the diptyque's baies candle

The berry opening is very sweet and in your face, but it dries down nicely into a soft musky & clean laundry scent, similar to initio's 'Musk Therapy' Would be a good everyday scent for anyone who just wants to simply smell 'clean'. Quite unisex.

I have all three and just loving them. The bottle And packaging is just amazing ,and the top wow! so heavy a piece of art . Proxima lasts all day on me this is so fruity ,this will be my summer go to.

its like eating fresh fruit next to a body of water while its humid out. Very light, doesn’t last very long but the dry down is very pretty

I think this is really beautiful and lasts all day on my skin, wanted to love but just a tad too feminine leaning for me.
