1881 Signature

Hard to imagine all of these reviews are for the same fragrance. I had expected a strong leather, smoky and dirty, from several descriptions, but that isn't what I got. The leather plays a supporting role only, and is of the buttery soft leather variety. Nutmeg's spicy zing, fougeric touches of anise, combined with the smooth, light sweetness of cardamom is the dominant accord, lightened by citrus (description says grapefruit, but limonene and citral are what I get, giving a bergamot, orange and light lemon blend), at least for the first 45 minutes. The labdanum and amber combination give the leather an additional creamy texture, but it is in no way a dark or rough leather, at least while these other notes hold court. As this begins to settle at the one hour mark, the nutmeg, labdanum, leather, anise and amber predominate, with a reduction in sweetness, and the pepper begins to increase. I could not see the comparisons to Dark Rebel Rider before, but there is now some similarity. This is lighter, less spicy, a bit classier than that gem - more fougeric. Further down the line, a very light smokiness from the vetiver flits in and out, but this is no By The Fireplace. I would consider this to be workplace safe, but also good for date nights and casual hangouts with friends. Any season except the heat of summer would work for this. It is much better than 1881 Blanche and Sport. At the 3 hour mark, this has become a quiet, smooth amber/leather scent with a chocolately patchouli and just a hint of labdanum and some light fougere elements. t hasn't projected for some time, but wafts swell up with some frequency. The leather is not (and has never been) at all animalic or gasolinic, and has no trace of EVOO like so many leather accords. This is warm, with a delicate sweetness, and is extremely comforting. Age range is 30+. This, and the 1881 OG, are winners. Thumbs up!

This is clearly an Oriental fragrance quite aromatic, spicy and just a bit sweet. It opens very spicy. In the middle notes you get a fantastic leather tamed by the omnipresent spices, mainly cardamom now (the type of cardamom present in La Nuit de L'Homme). In the base notes the strong leathery facet is consolidated with amber and herbs for an above average drydown (pleasure & longevity). Performance is average with 6~8 hours longevity with 2 sprays in the back of my hand. Sillage is good enough for 5~6 feet with a projection of 1,5 hours. Leather is not an easy note. Raw skin doesn’t smell so good due to the tanning process. Fashion leather presents a reodorized scent, perfumed with essential oils, and that practice is actually what today describes our notion of of the current pleasant leather smell. That effect is usually rendered by birch tar (that made famous Cuir de Russie) or by synthetic isoquinolines that emulate the agreeable part of the natural tanning smell. Essential oils of civet, musk and amber may also be used. 1881 Signature gives us an extraordinary smooth, non offensive, dark and tanned leather. This is the type of leather I prefer and that we find in the stronger Tuscan Leather, Leather Oudh, Wild Leather, and others. The well behaved part of this scent evokes, to me, the Maison Martin Margiela Jazz Club fragrance. You must wear it among people who like strong scents. Most people will love your sillage but may become uncomfortable with close proximity due to the smoky, tary, asphaltic kind of scent, even if a smooth one. I just love it. You should use it in classy parties, weddings, classy clubs or alone for your own pleasure. It's a marvelous perfume in the proper occasions. If you layer it with pineapple you will get a vibe of the Aventus smoky batch. I love dark fragrances and this one is very good indeed, and the best 1881 for me.

Not sure about the rough leather and intense dry downs others have mentioned below. On me, in winter clothes and cold weather, I could hardly smell it after half an hour but then a spicy aroma appeared at the 1 hour mark radiating from my sweater and kept a nice bubble around me for the whole day. From initial spray to my shirt the next morning, I get a really nice smooth powdery and somewhat peppery leather. I love the scent. It's in the same family as your date night favourites. The ambery labdanum mix results in a powdery scent, and it's a bit warmer than the cardamom lavender tonka/amber combo we know so well from other brands (like ysl's la nuit line). The leather really gives it a nice edge. Probably my favourite blind buy in a while. Wife loves it too...Also, beautiful bottle! Stay smooth

This is a spicy Cologne It is pepper and leather. Has a little pencil shavings smell more typical of cedar, but maybe that is the peppertree coming across. This would be a cooler weather scent, and just note this has no sweet dry down, I would compare it to Bentley Absolute, not exact but similar. This is for a more mature guy, so if you are into Invictus, Eros, 1 Million etc. Avoid this, but if you like spice and leather this one is a good buy. It not a beast but it has a decent scent bubble and last 6-8 hours. Office safe and places like church. Again it’s a very manly scent, so for intimate I would pick something just a little sweeter, I love spice so this one is great. If you want spice with a sweeter dry down there are others like Spice Bomb Extreme.

This is an hate or love it for men's , but what i noticed about it on me last long , like 12h+ and like 1-1.5m projection for 3-3.5h (but not this is the only thing i noticed ) , on women's (i mean womens 35+ and up , not girly's who think are women's) has a very weird effect , 80% from women's who smelled it from me when i was wearing it told me its smell dirty and perverted for them but in a good way. So for what it's offer this perfume for the price is more then ok , at first i hated it when bought it and when i used it on cold weather and after had a bit of time to macerate it was a love it , especially cause i saw to a certain group of women's has an weird effect. Price 10/10 Projection on me i give an 5/5 Longevity on me it deserve an 10/10

Such an underrated fragrance. It opens up really spicy but quickly dries down to a nice and a little bit soft leather smell. Extremely masculine with a dark and mysterious edge to it. Maybe not the most versatile, although i find myself grabbing it often especially in the cold fall nights. In terms of longevity, it leans on the moderate side, the same applies to the sillage. I would strongly recommend this scent to someone who's a step above the typical sweet and fresh modern fragrances.

I have 5 from the house. The original (Cerruti 1881 for Men EDT) and Signature are my favourite. Signature is based around leather with spices, amber and some patchouli and vetiver. Nothing plastic or synthetic, all seems natural (I know it's all synthetic but it does not have that synthetic smell). This is a pleasant, non offensive, colder weather and gentlemen-like scent. I would not wear it for summer. Overall a very classy blend with good performance and good price.

Read reviews before buying a fragrance, but take them with a grain of salt. Everyone has their own opinion regarding smells. Some people love it. Some people hate it. My advice is for you to get a sample of ANY fragrance before you ever buy it. That way, you can assess it yourself and have your thoughts, rather than strictly going off someone else's thoughts and opinions. Signature is a dark, pleasant peppery leather fragrance. I love it!!

Found it in an outlet store in rural France, wow, this one took me by surprise, wasn't expecting such a dark and spicy but also rich fragrance, the very peppery opening gives it a light smoky feeling that remind me a bit Jacomo de Jacomo, but that disappear during the dry down, best to wear it black suited or black trench coated in a jazz club or a dark alley. Beautiful dark stuff

Tried this one and immediately bought it as it's a version of La Nuit de L'Homme that I have been waiting for 8 years. A less sweet cardamom with a strong leather note (the Tuscan leather type of leather) and some incense at the beginning. Simply amazing. If you love LNDL but looking for something more sophisticated give the 1881 Signature a try.

In my first review of this one i was very negative, but this scent is really great, smells just like leather car seats, and i find it to be of very high quality, the best i have tried from this house by far. By the way this scent is absolutely fantastic for the price too.

This reminds me of going to the Rock clubs in the 1980's, where all the bikers used to wear this kind of scent. very, very nice, strong leather and Amber scent I love it.. Rock n roll... 👍👍

Opens with a blast that smells great but withing minutes dies down to a skin scent with a very faint leather smell.

Unmistakable La Nuit De L'Homme dna but no it is not the same and definitely not a clone. I also have Joop! Black King and when I first sprayed Cerruti Signature on myself, out of context I immediately thought of Joop's Black King. I sprayed one on my right hand and the other on my left. Let them dry down for 30-40 minutes and then compared. Very similar. The same soft, spicy leathery-ness but the two do stand apart. Cerruti Signature is smoother, more well mannered and mildly sweet I think because of the Amber where as Joop! Black King has a brighter almost impertinent floral top which I think is the Orange blossom. These two are like non-identical twins - definitely from the same blood line but can be easily told apart. Update 5/2/2018: Cerruti Signature Eau De Parfum. Beautiful opening that disappears very quickly. Almost no projection during the first 30 minutes and zero projection after that. Very quickly goes to a skin scent which is also when this scent becomes a very linear spicy-Vanilla/Amber which is pleasant in itself but can be found in scores of other oriental fragrances the world over. There's very few fragrances I've had bad performance from and not one EDP that I've had has produced anything less than decent to excellent projection. Alas Cerruti Signature has placed itself amongst the hall of shame, in my humble opinion. This is supposed to be an Eau De Parfum concentration but performs more like an Eau De Cologne. I envy those who get good projection and longevity from this as I do absolutely adore the opening and the bottle is smart, dark and mysterious giving a luxurious vibe. The bottle I have is only 5 months old and bought from a reputable online retailer that I have used many, many times before so I can only think that it is from a batch of a reformulation by Coty?.... Who knows. Such a shame, this could have been my winter 'signature' scent. :o/

Spicy leather. 1881 Signature is a leather fragrance first, spiced up with black pepper & cardamom, & softened down up with mild ambery grapefruit. This a leather fragrance for all. Leather can be polarizing but here it's made for the public, yet it has it's own distinctive character. This is one of the best mainstream leather. The leather here smells like that of a new car or a new handbag. It has been compared to Tuscan Leather & Nuit de L'Homme. It smells like neither of them. However, it has the nightly, demure vibe of Nuit de L'Homme. I really like it. Mature/cool weather wear. Big "Like"

This is much stronger than I originally thought. It's like a mixture of Gucci Guilty Absolute with La Nuit de l'Homme. I mostly detect a medicinal-like substance close to licorice. It is stronger than La Nuit and not as pronounced as GGA. There is a touch of aftershave too like you can find in Lalique's por Homme Lion. For me no resemblance to Ombré Leater at all, the leather note completely misses my nose.

Blind buy. For me, it starts spicy and then dries to a very nice, new car leather scent. Very pleasant but unfortunately with poor longevity and minimal sillage. If it was stronger then it would be great but for me, it's just good as it ends up as a skin scent within a short period . A reliable office scent or for chilling. Not recommended for date night unless you aren't planning to be there for long.

Another blind buy based on the reviews! I already have 2 more Cerrutis (1881 Men and 1881 Riviera) which are really nice, so I put my money to another Cerruti. Signature is also a nice one! I can smell wood - like cut trees in a forest combined very well with peppery + bit sweet notes. Of course it is a men's fragrance. The price is around £20. Definitely worth!

Very nice and refined fragrance. It gets even better with time and after few hours smells just divine, what happens so rarely. Random find in a duty free shop, definitely worth trying. I agree it reminds somehow of LNDL, but Cerruti Signature is more mature and sophisticated. And the bottle is very elegant.

Awesome for the price. It has similar sexy vibe and ambery, leathery base with issey noir ambre. With that being said the issey is more complex and long lasting parfume. Definitely a great buy for 23 euros, thumbs up for Cerruti.

A beautiful, masculine, peppered-leather scent with a subtle sweetness that makes me feel cool and mysterious, haha. I haven't tried JV Dark Rebel, but this is right at home shooting pool with JV Dark Rebel Rider.

Very similar to Ombré leather and JV dark rebel, for the price it’s pretty solid stuff. Super dark and animalic musk and new car leather smell.

This smells like encre noir l extreme which I have. Just a less potent version of it

A pleasant leather and mild spicy and peppery fragrance. Longevity and silage are only moderate. This is a nice almost creamy dry down pencil leads spicy smell with an fairly OK silage too. This one reminds me of Avant Guarde by Lanvin or Ultimate by Baldessarini. *Update* Better if it lasted longer - I have to say, for an EDP, it's a disappointment to me.

I had my hopes up that 1881 Signature would live up to the rating on fragrantica and to the legacy of the original. It is an absolutely mediocre fragrance (at best). It smells generic, has a slightly unpleasant synthetic note and there’s absolutely nothing to highlight. The comparisons being made are nuts. Just think bottom shelf cheapo at the supermarket. For the price, there are better fragrances to find in Zara, Lush, H&M, the Body Shop... anywhere else, really. I paid $7.23 for it second hand, a full bottle and original box, and now I understand why. I didn’t want to even attempt to sell it, so I gave it away.

Based on the reviews and ranked similarities blind bought this. Oh man, was I surprised. On the first spray, while there was still some alcohol in the air - I liked it and had big expectations. As soon as this settled on my skin I was repulsed. Opening smelled like I haven't washed my skin for a couple of weeks and am on a walk in the high heat, naked, sweating. ( grapefruit + pepper, maybe?) This absolutely repulsing smell settles to something sweeter( thanks to the amber and cardamon?). Once picked, i can detect this foul smell during the whole life of the fragrance, which lasts around 4-5 hours for me.

nice try but this smells nothing like La Nuit

Smells like leather, motor oil, pepper and gasoline. Like a car mechanic after a shift. Similar vibe like Dior Fahrenheight. Opening is too strong and shocking...but after it settles it smells kind of nice. It has the mojo...suitable for a badass biker/leather jacket style. However I am not sure that the ladies will be attracted to such unique smell profile. Performance is bad ( under 2h ) and projection is even worse ( after agressive opening it sits close to the skin ). Bottle is high quality though. No need to pay top dollar for quality leather. This one does it just as well. Spicy, dark, leathery, cozy and warm. Another price to quality fragrance from the underrated Cerruti line. I don't get the LaNuit comparison and that is absolutely fine by me. This is not a loud fragrance like TL and it's cloying other clones. This is nicely done, refined leather like the kind found on a leather strop with the slightest bit of fine smoke. Performs well and sits close to the skin which is well suited for leather scent profiles like this.

Wow I purchased it online and suprise when I checked my batch code it from 2017 and the juice color is very dark but tva first 20 minutes it's very loud after that it's calm down really fast and it's not a beast mode fragrance even this batch from 2017 . I'm glad that my bottle is from 2017 but I'm Concerned about going bad because it's 6 years old .

This fragrance was discontinued maybe a month after I bought it.. I feel cursed. And it's really too bad because it's a very complex and nice composition. It's leather heavy with smoky vetiver and toasted pepper. Slight sweetness to it, too. At least I got a full 100 ml bottle to enjoy.

I get the LNDL similarity,but this is more masculine and dark. It is also smokey and slightly boozy,and gives off the impression of sitting at a dark bar. This is really close to JV Dark Rebel. I'm glad i found it.

I tried it this week at Marionnaud, it has a good opening, I detected the anise and amber initially, then it falls back to notes amber leather. I get the impression that it evaporates quickly

Sexy sweet spices over the dark base of smooth and slightly smoky-woody black leather. Smells far more mature and clean than Dark Rebel. Worth a try!

All I can smell is Bay Leaf. Not very fond of this. Very sweet and body odour-like.

Discrete leathery scent, very clean, a bit synthetic but worth the price.

The leather in here is rough, rich and dark. Its absolutely fantastic.
