Chance Eau Vive

Wow, Chanel...they put Eau Vive in the Chance line, what, I think it's the fifth one or so, they gave it a pale pink color, and made it out to be an easy, bright citrus perfume...so of course I ignored it until very recently. I was not expecting to think much of this, as I though it would be a weak, fleeting, 'non-offensive' type of scent. So you know where I'm going, I couldn't have been more wrong. I love when I'm wrong like this! Eau Vive does have a lot of citrus notes, but they are VERY long lasting on my skin, with the lighter/bitter grapefruit notes on top, and the heavier/denser/sweeter blood red oranges thorough the heart. The blood orange notes last hours on my skin, and eventually they co-mingle with the jasmine, which is thick and full and even a little bit skanky. The iris note shows up as Eau Vive begins to drydown. The dry down is what really blew me away, as it is NOT an insipid 'citrus cologne' base, not at all, it is primarily a woody vetiver and dry iris, with a lot of sandalwood, incense, and musk thrown in for good measure. Some reviewers comment that the base is too 'masculine' and I do see what they mean--the woody base is STRONG and assertive, and yeah, if you're a woman who doesn't like woody perfumes, then you're not going to dig this. Really I am surprised at the strength, character, and tenacity of the base, it's the best part for me. It's a confidence wood, that vetiver-iris-sandalwood just spells confidence. And the performance? Amazing!! Lasts on my skin ALL DAY, I even refrained from doing a retouch when I wore this the other day, just to see how long it would really last. It went a good 12 hours with say 4 to 6 sprays. I notice that if I catch a bit of Eau Vive on my clothing, I get nice hints of blood orange and jasmine throughout the wear, while after about 4 hours on the skin it dries down into that fabulous vetiver/iris base. Awesome job Chanel! I am genuinely excited to have found this.

This is very nice, got a hold of a full bottle dated around 2019-2018, just opened It a few hours ago, so at the moment top notes are extra zesty (grapefruit). I feel like this one is like an EDT that needs some settling over time/oxidizing. On skin It smells a lot like Gabrielle, the grapefruit jasmine musk is the same progression on both fragrances at their very core but Eau Vive is fresh and zesty, I really really like the drydown it's demure but smells expensive af. Gabrielle is intended to go the soap route (citrus, powdery, musky White) but the grapefruit can be a treacherous note! On my skin It Will always turn acid, so the very essence of what Gabrielle tries to compell (a super soapy clean floral, DELIGHTFUL and contemporary) tends to turn sour. I wish It would translate on my skin as this clean citrusy soap, but instead it tries to be a freshie powdery yellow floral that inevitably turns extremely powdery. I got Eau Vive because I recently purchased Eau Splendide and realized that I really enjoy the Chance line bc of the drydown, fantastic woody crisp and musky. Some reviewers noted Vive as a stronger take on Splendide - I think both are very different but they do share nuances with other Chanel fragrances and in the drydown, I think the real sisters cojoined by variations of the same drydown are Chance EDT, Fraiche, Splendide and Vive (in drydown muskiness order haha!). will elaborate further soon, I do agree It has a phase where It just smells like weed right before it starts to settle (not bad tho). The woody sweet musky heart reminds me a lot of another freshie: Creed's Silver Mountain Water pre-reformulation, I think Vive can be fairly Unisex but it's also more floral than SMW. Besides the perfect musk, the Iris-Vetiver on the base also makes it a great candidate for a year-rounder, It lasts as a skin scent for more than 10 hours.

It was more than a year that I had this sample of chance eau vive and I was never eager to try it.back then I wasn't a Chanel girl.I also disliked citrus and woody scent but lately I'm loving any Chanel perfume I try so I had to give a go to eau vive It opens very citrusy ad it's expected.I can easily pickup grapefruit and blood orange.well I have to confess it's citrus opening is lovely and is one of the rare citrus scents I enjoy Usually sour,sharp,zesty citrus scent give me toothache.in eau vive citruses are very natural and fresh but they're not screechy and they have a little amount of sweetness to make them pleasant for me It's a shame that this lovely citrus burst,fades away in less than 20 minutes.they were such refreshing,full of energy and happyness that I wanted them to last in fore front for hours not just linger lightly beneath middle and Base notes.good that it's other phase is also lovely.I can't detect much of iris but I can pickup musky jasmine which I loved so much in chance edp and even other chanels.there's also a hint of vetiver.I don't see eau vive as a very girly scent as it's soapy woody drydown has an adult and even a slight masculine vibe.on the other hand it's youthful opening make it a good choice for young generation so I see it as a fragrance wearable for a wide age range I enjoy it's lovely,fresh citrus opening.also I like it's clean and classy soapy musk-jasmine-vetiver scent so I thought I have to add to my wishlist just like chance edp and tender but now that I'm smelling my hand(4 hours after application) there's a strong cedar note(orangey cedar) which ruins both feminity and cleanness of the drydown.it's a skin scent now but I don't want this strong cedar even on my skin I have to try it more and see whether I really want it considering it's price tag or not

It breaks my heart to see such negative reviews about this fragrance. This is my MOST FAVOURITE and MOST COMPLIMENTED fragrance ever!! It's a masterpiece in my opinion. You just have to give it the right chance. Eau Vive, roughly translates to "Living Water" and I completely agree!! It's never mellow and never understated. It starts off with a beautiful grapefruit/blood orange note and dances and sashays its way to the woody accords. But the beauty of it is, the fruity floral notes never leaves you! It continues to dance through the woods and take your by surprise. When I wear Eau Vive I think of what it feels like to go to the Russian Ballet Center to watch a recital of Swan Lake. The way those dancers move so gracefully yet grabbing your attention and taking you by complete surprise! It's a wonderful first perfume in the house of Chanel by the son of the Guru, Olivier Polge. Props to him for that. People always say that Olivier has not created as much as Jacques.. which is crazy in my opinion. Here's a list of perfumes created by Olivier which might right a bell! Many of these fragrances have been hit sellers for years! Don't give up on Eau Vive, take a chance on it! (No pun intended.) Don't test it on a strip of paper. I decided to try this in the cold as eau fraiche changes in the seasons with my body chemistry and this smells even better in the cold..it's gotten sweeter, the citrus is more present and the iris, jasmine, cedar and musk amp up...this is so good..I think I prefer to wear Eau Vive during the winter more than the summer and Eau Fraiche during the summer as that smells better on me during that season versus the winter. So strange how perfumes change like that. I'm almost tempted to try other fragrances during this time to see how much better they smell as I know that Midnight Poison smells amazing during this time of the year especially during the winter. I've gotten so many compliments wearing this fragrance too so it leaves a nice scent trail people pick up and notice more than other fragrances I own. People love Chanel and creamy citrus fragrances at that. I really am enjoying Eau Vive more and more. When comparing this with the original Chance edp it has all of the citrus of chance so the DNA is there. It just has that beautiful creamy floral & citrus that's easier for those who couldn't handle the stronger woods & cedar in Eau Fraiche. Very fresh and very Chanel. A good compliment getter that really shines in the winter. If you like fresh fragrances and wanted something a little more classy this is a lovely fresh fragrance to own. I find the more time I have had with it the more I understand it and love it more.

Finally got my hands on a bottle! Eau vive is breathtaking. I think I may like this more than eau tendre. Star note is grapefruit, with other citrus nuances. I also smell Jasmine. Eau vive is a fresh citrus scent with Jasmine undertones. If we were to categorize chance eau tendre vs eau vive, I'd say eau tendre is the younger carefree sister whereas eau vive is serious, knows what she wants but does know how to have a good time when she feels it's appropriate. Edit: it's been over a month since I wrote this review and I'm still obsessed with eau vive. I've had a few perfume that I was crazy about but a week or two later I'd be bored. There is something about eau vive that I absolutely love. I'd compare the feeling to when you fall in love with someone and you just know in your heart that they are 'the one'. That's how I feel about eau vive. I've loved many others, but this is irreplaceable. I assume this is how one finds their signature scent; they just get that feeling of knowing that this is it! Just like a relationship, when I'm not wearing eau vive, I'm thinking about it, comparable to missing your significant other. Also, there is nothing else that smells just like eau vive, yet another reason she is so very signature worthy.

Oh my gosh I finally got a sample of this with my Chanel No 19 order and this is so good. I don't know why this is not talked about as much as Eau Fraiche but I love this even more than Chance Eau Fraiche because its not rough around the edges as Eau Fraiche can sometimes be. It appears they smooth it out in this new one. This is definitely going to be my next purchase and I'm getting a 5 oz bottle of this..it's that good. Because of the blood orange and grapefruit this is like a fresh citrus candy bomb mixed with musks and cedar. At first I thought this had magnolia in it because it becomes very creamy along with the citrus freshness, but it appears there is jasmine in this and the vetiver mixed with the grapefruit, blood orange and jasmine makes this such a smoother release than Eau Fraiche. Sorry Eau Fraiche you have been dethroned by Eau Vive..lol. This is the freshie I will go to for Spring & Summer because that creamy white floral with the citruses is just so good to me personally. Wow..now why did I have to try this one just when I went on another no buy. lol. I can't..I'll have to go on a no buy after I get Eau Vive.. I need this in my life it's so good. Chanel make this an edp!

I have had a bottle of original Chance EDT or EDP in my collection for years. Can't be without it. It's a very nostalgic fragrance for me and transports me to Paris where I smelled it for the first time upon release in 2002. As much as I love it, I find the patchouli and pink pepper notes a bit much for every day wear. It can sometimes induce headaches. Over the years, I've fallen in love with Eau Tendre (especially love the EDP) and most recently Eau Vive. The only one I can't get on board with is Eau Fraîche as it's too like the original IMO to justify owning a bottle. Eau Vive is lighthearted, juicy, uplifting... it just makes me smile when I wear it. It's non-offensive and office friendly. I think this will be amazing in the warmer months, but I don't think it's terribly out of place when you need a pick me up in a state of "winter blues". It does warm up a tad with the cedar in the dry down after about 4 hours. It's not terrific for lasting - I'd say I get maybe 6 hours before it's a skin scent. I don't know why this doesn't get more love out of the line (especially over eau fraîche). It's so nice!

Eau Vive Chance is my favorite out of all Chance. I also own Chance EDP and Chance Eau Fraiche. I wished Eau Tendre will work for me, when I put it it turns to a generic white floral and mediocre citrus that smells unisex. It’s just me, because Eau Tendre smells amazing like as described ingredients on my friends. Back to the star, why do I love Eau Vive so much? I love grapefruit! It stays citrus and does not turn sour, it’s the fresh peeled sweet grapefruit which no other fragrance have this quality. It is fruity the first hour and integrates into a more mature sweet floral middle notes that is non cloying like many other sweet scents. Silage is great, it follows you! Other Citrus fragrance really don’t have this kind of staying power. Eau Vive is one of the kind from Chanel- very uplifting, sexy, and womanly, and the tartness makes it refreshing out of all other lines it’s perfect for summer! Works for spring too however more towards summer because for spring fragrance I do think of grassy and morning dew and Eau Vive is more citrus than dewy. Summer, here I come with Eau Vive!

VIVE starts very citrusy and tropical , a blast of orange ,grapefruit and clean musk ,vibrant , sweet and warm. I love the cedar and iris in the base and how clean and classy and refreshing it feels. I bought a bottle 3 years ago when it came out and misplaced it somehow. The other day I smelled this on a friend and was shocked how good it was. Why don’t I wear this I thought ,,I hunted for my bottle the whole day. Still couldn’t locate it , so I had to go out and buy a new one. I also got the dry spray oil which is phantastic! After my shower I spray the oil all over me which moisturizes beautifully and leaves me feeling fresh and smelling like orange and musk. I top it up with 3 sprayes of VIVE and I am set. Many compliments by my family ,it makes me want the EDP Chance now. All the chances have something in comon. Different aspects are inhanced. Here the citrus woody and fresh musky notes are lifted to the foreground. There also is a unisex masculine vibe . A classy cologne vibe.

This is my favourite of the Chance series. First of all -no pathouli (!) which is always a difficult note for me, devouring all the other notes on my skin. Second; a lovely, sweet, moderate citrus, refreshing but not the turbo kind, that will make your eyes water and get you thinking about home maintenance products. Third; a classic drydown of white musk/cedar/iris giving the scent elegance and grace. I don't mind the (expensive) shampoo/ fresh out of shower comparisons, these are the reasons why I bought the scent! ;-D I would recommend this to all in search of an uplifting and fresh spring scent with a classic vibe who find most of the citrus opening scents too harsh or without a proper base. This scent will tenderly enliven your senses and bring you to summer. Ps:In the northenmost Europe where I live (and the summer temperatures rarely exceed 25°C) this would be a wonderful summer scent as well.

from a BF's perspective: I'm shopping around these days for a floral fragrance for my GF, so yesterday I took some time to try over 15 different ones at the local mall, at Sephora and Shoppers. The sales lady gave me to try mainly from the Givenchy and Chanel brands. I have my favorites for both brands, and they're really close! I still have to make up my mind as of which one to pick. But if were to choose from the Chanel lineup, I'd say without a doubt, that Eau Vive is the best in the lineup. The Citrus note in the opening is what it makes it different from the rest, and more versatile from use in the summer. The dry down is very feminine, mellow, inviting..it makes me think for spending hours cuddling with her! When I smell a fragrance I close my eyes, inhale deeply, and just focus on the images I see in my mind..if it takes me places with her, that's the one I pick! This Eau Vive does that.

Such a classic! Best from the Chance range! So sparkling and luminous! Young and vibrant! Chanel can be quite mature smelling mostly! I always want to have this perfume in my collection! Fruity floral edt done right! Smooth, fresh, light, sweet (not tart, sharp and astringent like most citruses) balanced not too fruity not too floral. There’s no powdery smells here, (Eau Tendre is the powdery one) just a beautiful crisp, fresh and delightful fragrance. Perfect for any occasion as it couldn’t possibly offend anyone! Effortlessly elegant, the Chanel dna is definitely present and this is well blended and beautiful! I’m so glad that this is sweet and youthful! Probably the sweetest Chanel too, the same type of sweetness as Beige so not syrupy but sweet enough. My go to perfume for all occasions! This is that girl, yes, that girl that always looks polished and beautiful everyone loves her.

The notes on the Chanel website are different. Top: grapefruit and blood orange, heart: jasmine, base: cedar and iris. That is exactly how it transitions on me as well. The way Chanel does iris is just ahhhh 😍 and it is the common theme in many Chance flankers which I adore. Eau Vive is very close to the original Chance EDT but without the vetiver in the base that can come across as “masculine” sometimes (despite the notes listed here). I would call this “Chance Summer.” The grapefruit does have some sourness and it does smell like sweat a little, but the good kind of salty sweat like you’re laying on the beach in the hot sun. Longevity and projection as expected for an EDT. I sampled and bought it within an hour! A lovely addition for any Chanel / Chance flanker collector. It was sunny and 70 where I live today and I am on spring break so Eau Vive perfectly fit the vibe!

I finally recently picked up this flanker after wanting it for quite some time - I am a huge fan of Chance Eau Fraîche and wanted to try this one out. I have been wearing it the past couple of weeks and am absolutely loving it. On my* skin it starts off bright and citrusy and by the end of the day it is a deep musk (I am a big musk fan). On my clothes it dries to a mildly sweet floral that seems to last all day. Even after I don't notice it on myself anymore I will still receive compliments on how nice i smell (a gal at a sandwich shop recently shouted at me about how good i smelled) I know most people are most into the original Chance and the Eau Tendré flanker but tbh I have still never tried them because i love fresh scents, so unfortunately I can’t compare this to either of those.

I'm back. OBSESSED WITH THIS ONE, I'm trying to use It less but it's almost imposible. I'm now on the 50ml Mark and i've had the full bottle for only a few months already. It's so comforting and alluring, and its such an easy reach for any plan! The Jasmine and Orange are so sweet and nice, on clothes It smells fantastic. Love It on rainy days! such a mood lifter ❤️🩹 call It antidepressant. also is It just me or you can layer this one with virtually any other perfume? It adds character and grounds the comp if the base is too much of a freshie, like l' imperatrice, be delicious or Daisy... Chance Eau Vive packs a strong punch of clean musk and vetiver that can play around a lot!

Eau Vive it combines the advantages of Eau Tendre and Eau Fraiche. With Eau Tendre, I can feel juiciness and delicate powder, with Eau Fraiche, I can feel elegant coolness. Vetiver - similarly as in Eau Fraiche - it sounds subtle here, keeps the powdered iris in check, not allowing the composition to be transformed into creamy soap, but Eau Vive does not take on typically male tones. Eau Vive is not an innocent girl (Eau Tendre), but a woman full of grace and subtle elegance. Jasmine beautifully blends with white musk, and citrus is not obvious here, spicy or cologne, but juicy, smooth and slightly powdered. Chanel Chance eau Vive is a beautiful and elegant perfume.

This is a stunning scent ! Girly yet sexy and fun. Amazingly sweet but with a citrus twist that smells expensive. This is the perfect scent for a night on the town,club, party event. One of my all time favourites received as a gift and had to reup. I hate how expensive it is but boy is it worth it. I think this scent is young but would fare up with an older woman as well. Id say this perfume is perfect from 18 straight into your 40s. Ofc any age can wear this its just the age range the scent is giving I hope that makes sense haha. I think its a cute kind of sexy scent not seductive and illusive that would be YSL black opium.A great blind buy for anyone !

This is the only Chance version that I would ever buy. It is the only one with any personality, complexity and any lasting power. Chance Tendre and original Chance were a joke performance wise. 2 or 3 sprays directly on the wrist were faint all day and disappeared completely in 4 hours. Chance Vive is a skinscent by hour 4 but still there by hour 6. Chanel changed the Chance and No. 5 lines around 2015 with a lot of synthetic based ingredients and the lasting power became a joke. Chance eau Vive has a strong grapefruit smell, the Chanel complex and powdery DNA, and is not as linear as the other Chance versions which make them incredibly boring to me.

I love this! ❤️ It works so very well with my chemistry, so multidimensional. It goes through several different phases on my skin, each one better than the last. It also lasted 24 hours on my hand!! I've never heard of a freshie lasting that long (and in 103 degree weather!). The other Chance flankers just don't stand up to Vive on me. Eau Fraiche was nice, but lasted 2 hours on my skin, and the dry down had a strange plastic-y note. This feels perfect for my age group (late 20s to late 30s) but would suit most ages imo. Shocked that it's the least popular of the bunch honestly, but maybe you need a specific type of chemistry for this one to shine?
