Egoiste Cologne Concentree

Chanel made such a mistake letting go of the Cologne Concentrée version of Egoiste. While Chanel presently has the "Les Exclusifs" line that exudes a niche quality, I feel that Chanel had already entered the niche segment with ECC back in 1992. I have sampled both vintage versions of Egoiste and while these two are quite different, the Cologne Concentrée feels like a step up in terms of composition and longevity. While the difference is more pronounced up front and it does lessen in the dry down, ECC lasts longer than its ancestor. I did sample the latest Egoiste at a Chanel boutique and I found it weakened and uninspiring. *Sigh* Luca Turin called Egoiste "candied fruit". Well, he was referring to the original and oddly made no mention of this Concentrée version. Knowing him, he'd probably deride it. This fragrance is very unisex, mostly because of the sweetness. It takes a good long while for the sweet to abate, which can make it a little challenging for some men to wear. This is no casual "spray and go" fragrance. It demands respect and proper attire. Unfortunately the scarcity of this fine fragrance has also lofted its market price into the stratosphere. Is it worth paying $200 for a mere 50ml? Some may believe so. You can also get a 7.5ml mini for around $20~$30 on occasion, but consider the ramifications of falling in love with something so financially demanding... unless you'd be satisfied just to sniff that mini bottle from time to time and occasionally dab on a little. ;-) Fragrance 9.5/10, Value 7/10.

Ok... After spending quite some time with this fragrance now I am going to attempt to give it what it deserves... This is an incredible (and sadly discontinued) fragrance... It is gorgeous stuff... I will make a couple comparisons in this little write up... This fragrance to me basically sits to the right of normal Egoiste and Geo F Trumper's Sandalwood... All 3 scents are very similar and I have all 3 sprayed on me right now... Going back and forth between the three (and a bag of coffee ^_^) think of them like this... Egoiste has way more of a rose feel to it then the other two combined and because of that I feel skews more formal... Geo F Trumper's Sandalwood has this 'freshness' early in the composition that the other two do not possess and has more vanilla in the base then normal Egoiste and because of these two points I feel that while still mature it is by far the easiest to wear... Egoiste Cologne Concentree has more cinnamon early on and this 'dustiness' to it that is hard to explain. Think about the 'dusty' feel you get from L'Air du Desert Marocain and you will understand what I am talking about and it skews even more sophisticated because of this... All 3 are wonderful fragrances and as time goes on they come closer together with Sandalwood and Cologne Concentree becoming the closest to each other by the final drydown... Sniff them all out if you have a chance to find out which you prefer as they are all stunning... 10/10

It was the Summer of my 19th birthday and I happened to be in France for the first time visiting my aunt, uncle and French cousins. I remember hearing that Chanel had come out with a new cologne for men that was intriguing and different. I may have even tried a sample from a magazine or something since it hadn't hit the states yet, but that Summer, it was definitely all over Paris. Of course, just barely turning 19 that year, and not a little broke after having saved up for that trip for a while, I still couldn't splurge on something like fancy French cologne. I don't even think I had a credit card at the time. So what a complete surprise it was when, once we all journeyed about three hours south of Paris to the countryside, and when it came time to sing me "Bonne Anniversaire", that my family presented me with a Chanel wrapped package and my jaw dropped. I'll never forget the warm, sandalwoody, light, but deliberate sweetness, how it started out smooth, yet spicy, but not too spicy, evoking an elegance and sophistication that developed into a comfortable sandalwood that would always remind me of my family singing Happy Birthday to me en français. I regret that I can't find that again anywhere, but my memory is good and I will always remember those special times with the original Égoïste as part of the soundtrack. Warm and rich, very potent, but surprisingly soft, Egoiste concentree is one of the most interesting and complex fragrances I have experienced. I think experience is a good way to describe wearing Egoiste-- it is unique. To begin, there are many more notes than those listed. On me, it opens with a fairly masculine rose, balanced by a very soft musky, woody note, followed by cinnamon. I smell rosewood, but also smell rose. The cinnamon itself is unusual: Ceylon cinnamon, soft and sweet, yet more intense than Cassia. I smell carnation, unlisted, and a rich vanilla. Sweet amooth and spicy. And then cigarettes, an ashtray note that is quite pleasant and persistent. I am surprised no one else smells the tobacco note, because it is strong on me. I don't get the leather until about three hours in, when the rose has faded and mellowed, the cinnamon has become less sweet, and the musk has faded somewhat. At this point, Egoiste is spicy, and smells of tangerine peel or zest, rather than the fruit. Not fruity at all. Warm, sweet, but paradoxically masculine, the drydown is more sandalwood than musk, woody and smoky. One of the most remarkable facets of this fragrance is how it is both soft and almost gentle, yet strong and long lasting, with considerable silage and projection. Perhaps it is the rosewood that keeps this soft. A masterpiece and I don't throw that word around.

Given the age of this cologne, it blows my mind at how strong and long lasting it remains after all those years, the shelf life is incredible. I have this in a splash bottle and I mistakenly splashed a bit much on one day, I didnt want to waste it, but I dumped too much in the cap, so I splashed it on, well it actually got on my office chair and my office smelled for at least 4 months of the most amazing sandalwood fragrance ever, you walk in my office door, it hits you in the face, and it has finally faded after just an endless amount of longevity from a bottle that is 20 years old, that is quality right there. And that day, I was a walking air freshener. I will agree, in terms of scent this is near identical to the Vintage Egoiste, but make no mistake on quality, while the 2 smell the same, the quality of the Concentree is vastly superior. Does quality matter, when we are talking about a scent that smells identical, not really, but if you have a winter jacket that you plan on wearing, splash some Concentree on that, and you are good for the season. Amazing, and truly unfortunate that you cannot get a NEW bottle of this, I cant even imagine what this smelled like 20 years ago, what the projection or longevity must have been like then.

Comparing my two bottles of CHANEL Egoiste Cologne Concentree and Egoiste side by side on the skin of my wrists....I can attest the following: Both formulas are exquisite and tremendous examples of French olfactory masterpieces. However, the Cologne Concentree edition (released for the US market specifically) is heavier on the the bourbon vanilla and sandalwood. In my opinion, Cologne Concentree dries down smoother with a base that ends in rosewood. The word 'earthy' comes to mind. it also possesses the the now banned hydroxicitronellal and Oak Moss - probably two of the most crucial elements in a classic perfume, which cannot be found in the current Egoiste formulations (which have become slightly synthetic). I am lucky enough to own a bottle of the rare predecessor to both these fragrances 'Bois Noir' which was released exclusively in 1987 (limited release of approximately 1,000 bottles that were only sold in CHANEL boutiques). The Cologne concentree smells more similar to the superlative Bois Noir formula. Neither Cologne Concentree nor Egoiste can defeat the might of BOIS NOIR. The holy grail. It is a bombastic scent that is far warmer, denser, richer and more scrumptious than the two Egoiste successors.

When I was 13 and in 8th grade, and collecting perfumes (from the drug store, my mother's bathroom, and wherever else I could get my hands on pretty smells in pretty bottles), I read about this stuff. A fashion magazine said that hip young women in Paris were wearing this Chanel men's cologne that smelled of vanilla, tobacco, and raisins. I acquired my bottle through some combination of pleading and promising to unload the dishwasher for the rest of eternity or something. The memory it evokes is of autumn, long black wool coats, crunching leaves, and being 14 years old (pretty funny, considering Egoiste is referred to as an "old man cologne). I have had the same 1.7 ounce bottle since 1992 and it is not even half empty yet. Not because I don't like it, but because this stuff is so special that I will only wear it once in a while, and only in late fall or winter. Even when I am dead, there will probably be quite a bit left. It has not spoiled or changed in the least bit (except that the liquid is a shade darker). Sometimes I pick it up from my dresser, sniff it, then place it back lovingly and whisper "my precious" while patting it gently. It is the greatest.

Chanel Egoiste Cologne Concentree Review This is easily one of the best fragrances I've ever smelled. Let me make an analogy here. Stay with me on this. The EdT version of Egoiste, I have the 2014 formulation, is like watching one of your favorite movies on DVD. The image is less sharp and you don't see all the details. The movie is still amazing though because, after all, it's one of your favorites. Cologne Concentree is like watching that same movie in 4K. This is beautifully crafted. Every nuance of the scent is detectable and perfectly placed. It's a spicier, richer, and more vibrant fragrance. All that being said, Egoiste is still Egoiste. Whether that's a current formulation or an old formulation. Both smell fantastic and are worthy of your time and money. I mistakenly bought this concentration back in the early/mid 90s and have held onto my bottle since then. True to the other reviews, it is a more intense, yet less complex version compared to the OG Egoiste from the 90s. The latter version (I believe it was an EDT) gives that delightful "mincemeat pie" note from the mix of orange, spices, and rose. The cologne concentrée starts with cinnamon and spice but develops into a deep, rich, vanillic sandalwood with a hint of leather in the drydown. It leans masculine while remaining gorgeous and soft. I love this version and I'm glad I never parted with it years ago. This is a rare treat for Mysore sandalwood lovers best enjoyed in the late fall and winter. If you like Hermessence Ambre Narguille (which I also have and wear during this time of year), you probably would enjoy this.

This is something special. Having adopted an interest in fragrances quite recently, I initially thought this was overhyped by rose tinted glasses looking back on days gone by. Boy was I wrong. I think this is hands down the most manly you can smell without overwhelming everyone else's noses. To me this is like Tuscan Leather with a toned down leather note, infused with Balenciaga Pour Hommes dry down, and a touch of Dior Homme Parfum sweetness. It's pleasant with a certain charm that reminds me of a suave personality full of bravado. It's sweet without smelling too feminine. The leather note is not strong but provides a special foundation underneath the sandalwood and spices. It's the perfect blend of rugged smells. You will love this if you can find a bottle; the aftermarket prices are definitely worth it!

I finally obtained a vintage bottle of this fabled ambrosia and can compare it directly to the currently available Egoiste EdT. My conclusion was surprisingly immediate and succinct: the Cologne Concentree smells more natural in a side by side comparison, but the difference is slight. If anything, my experience with the Cologne Concentree leads me to believe the EdT should be venerated for achieving what it does under current ingredient restrictions. Egoiste is my favorite perfume and I don't regret outlaying a pretty penny for a bottle of Cologne Concentree, but mercifully the Cologne Concentree has not "ruined" me for the current EdT, and truthfully I can't conclude one or the other is categorically better, price notwithstanding.

Ageless, Timeless, Undying, Immortal, Perpetual, Everlasting, Egocentric, Untamed, Never Sorry, Brash, Audacious, Chanel Egoiste Cologne Concentree; bold enough for an Authoritarian King, Gentle enough for a Priest. Sandalwood, Cinnamon, Rosewood, and Leather...smells like an Angel's Breath... Needless to say More!!!

I just scored a 90/100ml bottle and let me tell you ,.....Unreal....I have 225 bottles and this elixir is out of this world in silage, and performance, and the Mysore Sandalwood is something I have never smelled, Incredible! The Holy Grail of my Collection, ....maybe one day Bois Noir,LOL

This is really good stuff. Put on at 9:00am and it really hits its stride in the afternoon. Two sprays to my belly and still going strong at 6pm. Strong sillage and man, what a dry down. If I could only wear one scent, this is it.

This is pretty much the perfect cologne. Yes, similar to Egoiste, but smoother, richer, and with an ideal development and denouement. Every phase of this one is exactly how it should be.

I bought this from a boutique ages ago. It’s still my favorite. I love the sweet and spicy smell. I wish this formulation was still available.

The drydown of this stuff is something else. A rich, buttery cinnamon sandalwood. Leathery texture. Top notch.

Egoiste Cologne Concentree is the epitome of elegance. Too bad it was discontinued. Simply exquisite!

I finally bit the bullet and paid up for a vintage bottle of Egoiste Cologne Concentree. First, I am a HUGE fan of the vintage 1st formula verson of the OG Egoiste and own multiple back-up bottles, so needless to say, I was VERY eager to get my nose on the uber-elusive and fleeting CC version. I was fully expecting to absolutely love it....but honestly I kind of just like it. As many have mentioned, in typical EDP or Parfum fashion (which is really what this CC is), the scent is dialed up in most respects but predominantly in the sandalwood note. It is deeper, richer, longer-lasting vs the OG. Ultimately, while I really like it and am happy to have it in my collection, I probably still prefer the OG as it is more balanced, sophisticated and complex with a larger transition from opening to dry-down vs the CC which in comparison is a little more one-dimensional. Again, CC is still great but rather than spend $800 USD on a vintage 100ml bottle of CC off ebay (when you can find one), I would probably take that money that buy 4 bottles of the vintage OG version. And BTW, CC does smell very similar to Dior's Santal Noir FYI....so another less costly option if you like sandalwood-heavy masculine scents.

Very strong stuff. Not sure how this got dubbed a “cologne”, it’s not an edc concentration and it doesn’t have the historical/traditional cologne/fresh dna. This is very heavy and dense, lots of sandalwood, spices, and vanilla. One small spray from my sample decant is enough to give me a headache, pro tip: don’t spray this near your face. Not safe for summer or casual occasions. I do like it in general and respect the quality and potency but I preferred the Geo Trumper’s Sandalwood much more, which is a little fresher/cleaner and less sweet, all together making it much more wearable and it smells 90% the same while having the same longevity. Final thoughts, I do highly recommend this one but I’d say go with a decant and not a whole bottle unless you’re a true collector. It’s just too strong and I don’t see myself wearing this for anything other than special occasions during the winter

Ah Si Ritrovo L'Empio Gli Vocavar Il Cor! Oh Who Can Tell Me Where The Barbarous Villain May Be, If I Find Him I'll Tear Out His Heart! - Don Giovanni, Opera, Mozart If the licentious, devilishly handsome Don from the Mozart opera Don Giovanni wore a fragrance it would be this one. This is a much darker, more aggressive, richer and heavier version of the original Egoiste, which means Selfish in French. I first experienced this scent on a gentleman I met in Paris during Fashion Week. He had this exact same version which sadly has been discontinued. I was turned on by him and the fragrance. I was much younger then and like the ladies in the famous Chanel Egoiste commercial I slept with him in an expensive hotel only to later discover that I was just another conquest. Well that did not sit well with me at all but the cologne was not to blame! Love the cologne! The original Egoiste is not bad but this was really something. To me it smelled intense like an oud scent from the Middle East. It does not wear exactly like an Oriental but it has an Oriental nature. There is sandalwood, a characteristic of Oriental perfumery, and it really does deliver a magnificenet aroma. In addition there are spices and lots of them. It has a distinctly spicy flavor but not like a spice from spice shop or a kitchen. If you're afraid this might be too strong it really is no stronger than other men's colognes with spice scents, woods and leather. I find that this would have been made worse had they thrown in some patchouli. As it is this fragrance is balanced and a well-composed woods and leather scent. The woodsy notes smell a bit like dark ebony furniture, well polished, glossy with varnish, resinous. It has a balsam too. It smells like the inside of a mansion which belongs to a Saudi prince. As such, it's very luxurious and splendid. The woods in this fragrance transport one to a very stylish woodsy interior, not like a cabin or cottage, but more like the library of an opulent manor house, with wooden shelves and staircases, the floor to ceiling book shelves as seen in the Beast's Library in Beauty and the Beast the Disney movie. This is a studious, mysterius, strongly masculine scent. It is the fragrance for a mature, dominant man. He takes what he wants. I feel that it is very sexy and very alluring because it is a mating call perfume. It might not be too seductive on a young man who is not used to wearing Orientals or frags with too much wood. The woods is what really stand out. The leather is also very pronounced and it's more elegant and stylish leather than musky leather, though this, too, contains musk. I think it's appropriate for a complex, charismatic man. Obviously if he is wearing a Chanel, he is a man of means, or has great taste in fashion and wears designer suits. The Chanels might be misconstrued as "snob perfume" to some, but to me it speaks volumes for anyone that wears them. It is a fragrance of success, individual and personal self actualization and creativity. The man that wears this has lived a life of enrichment and has experienced everything life has to offer - but has not found the right balance in his life and probably has not found love. This fragrance is sexy in an aggressive, almost violent way. Irressistable, tempting, aromatic, dark, and villainous, theatrical, masculine, passionate and bold are words I would use to describe this scent. If you wear the Egoiste that is selling right now, that one is the closest you can get to this fragrance but think of this as being an Eau de Parfum with a lot more volume, facets and throws out better sillage. It had quite the impact on me. For a while I never forgot this aroma and was disapppinted the cologne concentree was discontinued. Chanel should bring it back in it's original magnificence. We need this type of traditional masculine fragrance to stand out among the lighter fougeres out there (i.e. Chanel Boy which I find to be feminine). This scent is for a man, and that coming from a woman who is not gender-biased when it comes to fragrances. If a woman wears this, she would have a good reason for doing it and that reason being she loves the notes and enjoys the aroma of leather and woods (that are masculine) on herself. I was never able to wear this because I couldn't find it in the US although I do wear the Egoiste that is still selling right now.

OH. EM. GEE. This has got to be the most DECADENT, rich, addicting, and masterfully composed woody cologne I have ever smelled in the history of male perfumery. I experienced the regular vintage edt first and nodded thinking "yeah thats nice! Solid beauty" to then smelling THIS one and having a dramatic life changing reaction. This is masterfully woody without it smelling like a teakwood table (Sorry SJP Stash). The cinnamon & vanilla pinch in the end without it going gourmand is so well done and a far cry from disgusting modern bakery scents. Not overly furniture like, nor that sweet- whoever composed this is a complete master at woody colognes. In fact this might just be the ONLY woody cologne I have ever considered actually woody- most colognes claim woody but i just dont pick up on that theme (even 'pure wood' from mugler is a complete disappointment). Antaeus just makes me nauseus with the castoreom, and BDC EDP is just too smoky to fall that in love with- This is the king of Chanel colognes. Hands down. like- you are telling me this doesn't exist anymore period? WHY and who was the IDIOT that made that decision!? $1000 bottles for 100 ml on ebay is a for sure signal people simply cannot live without this and man I don't blame them! This is a scent I would rock all autumn and never bother rotating my fall line. This dominates all of them. After the full day of sandalwood woody heaven- it dries down to this unique base that can be best described as like a slightly sweet spicy chai tea drink in the fall. Dirty seductive black dirty tea leaves with cinnamon sticks. You have got to be kidding me with this cologne. The bottle is so boring and understated that it's criminal and probably why it goes over most peoples heads- I could see this cologne marketed in a bleu de Chanel type bottle with BROWN glass, a black woody magnetic top- re released as "BRUN DU CHANEL PARFUM" or something like that- because I hate the 'egoiste' name pertaining to this fragrance- nothing egotistical about it- its pure old world class in a bottle. All in all - a complete hall of famer - and not for the average collector - this is for the must have collectors that have smelled it all and need their life reset.

@Lago32 SO many questions! To prefer the blander and incomplete EDT to this CC is astonishing!!! Did you get the oldest version? "cologne concentree" over the Chanel on the bottle? How dark was the juice? (No claim if these 2 features matter but doesn't hurt to verify). Pardon while my brain has a dial up tone after reading your review. Vintage EDT is far from balanced - its missing something that completes it and puts it in the intention it was meant for! Vintage EDT is like when you have a sneeze coming on and then something interrupts it and you get sort of a sliver of the release you were looking for. Honestly props but I find the EDT a bit strange - it opens orangey and sandalwoody then doesn't go much in either other direction, not complex at ALL. The EDT is not confident to deliver in the base for some reason making it a scent you'd almost consider for summer if it wasn't for the creamy sandalwood theme. The EDT is as confused as a new tour guide showing up to the world trade center 9/12/01 and still trying to give a tour of the towers despite the inexperience and despite the rubble. Like Meryl Streep in death becomes her after she takes the potion and looks in the mirror and miraculously sparkles within seconds and becomes 30 years younger - that is the transition from EDT to CC - It becomes a bland orange sandalwood scent to a richer spicier orange sandalwood chai tea cinnamon vanilla scent. HEAVENLY. I cannot stand modern gourmands and if only our modern perfumers could learn a thing or two about sweet men's colognes - THIS is how you make a sweet spicy men's cologne! You sound a bit lost and confused like a new nose trying to smell the divine breath of god but haven't been able to transcend just yet to know what you're smelling - give it some time. I'd sell 10 Vintage EDT bottles lose out on the value just to get one vintage CC the experience quality and completed DNA far surpasses the quantity. Wait what am I doing - Oh wait no - What I mean to say guys - hes right - don't listen to him - don't spend the money on the CC - that way I can lol.

Cologne Concentrée? Commercialisme Concoctée. Much has been harped on about this magic and rarefied elixir called Egoïste Cologne Concentrée. You can almost hear a choir and see a beam of light cleave the sky in twain at the mere mention of this seemingly contradictory fragrance category: the concentrated cologne. And therein lies my chagrin. For the life of me I cannot figure out what the difference is between this and the regular edition! I swear to God all those people who rave about the CC are either lying or else under some psychological illusion - "Ooooh, it came out and got discontinued....it must be amazing then!....yes I can smell it!!! Yes!!! Yes!!! It's so different!!!" Uhh..NOPE! Thankfully, there are many people who realise the folly of this condition and can categorically say that there is precious little if no discernible difference between the two versions in terms of smell. Some will concede that the CC lasts a couple of hours longer, but that hasn't been the case in my experience. In fact, there are some who say the regular edition (as long as it's not the reformulated version) actually lasts a bit longer. And this makes sense to me; was Chanel trying to reinvigorate the flagging sales of the fragrance by creating a new name for the established 'eau de toilette' category - the "cologne concentrée"? It honestly wouldn't surprise me if it was revealed that this was just such a marketing tactic - perhaps a play on the double C's of Chanel. No doubt some other company will soon come out with an EdT but call it an "Eau De Parfum Dilué"? Please!

I get the mild "ashtray" note someone else mentioned, and I'd say the sandalwood note here is almost between leather and wood in texture. The fruit imparts a slight sour quality and overall the scent is a touch sweet, as well as "powdery." A kind of spicy hum pervades everything, and the balance is just right. I can see why this is considered so special, though while the dynamism is good enough, it isn't the most dynamic scent ever made. Rich and natural-smelling, this seems to be what so much niche aspires to be but rarely achieves! In response to those who say this is exactly the same as the EdT, here is my opinion: the latest EdT formulation is harsh and unwearable; the difference is so huge I don't see a need to say more. The vintage EdT is very good but after a couple of hours becomes quite weak. This one goes on weak but seems to get stronger over time! My guess is that it has more amber in it. You can't compare this one to the vintage EdT after a few hours, since they go in opposite directions. If you can't detect these differences, be happy and buy the cheapest formulation you can get, but if you call other people liars then you open yourself up to ridicule; a "newbie nose" who thinks he's a expert. Good luck with that, as prices on ebay demonstrate that there are plenty of people who know how special this one is and are prepared to pay higher-than-niche prices for it !

I have been looking at the $400+ bottles on eBay for some time now with such desire. I just found a 50 ml bottle on Mercari with maybe 40% of its juice left, for under $100. I feel so lucky. I will come back and update once I receive the holy grail! Update 2/10 - It has arrived. Wow. Just...wow. I sprayed my newer EDT (100 ml tester from 2003 or 2011 - I have a 50 ml EDT from the 90s as well) on one wrist and this on another. Égoïste without citrus and rose. I don’t even know what to say. Égoïste has become one of my favorite scents that I will ALWAYS have a bottle of. But this is something special. So sad, but also understandable due to the use of Mysore sandalwood, that this isn’t available anymore besides eBay. I’ll come back and post about it’s longevity and silage one day. I don’t know how I could wear this anymore than just now as I sit here and type this. Maybe I’ll be able to afford a full bottle eventually. This is just...a relic. An absolute monolith and masterpiece in perfumery. I’m a little melancholic due to the fact that I can’t wear this more. But I remember how happy Égoïste edt makes me, and I remember I’m fine. But I’ll always treasure this. Hey, maybe one special day I’ll choose this as my SOTD and wear it on more than just one wrist. This is the only fragrance my husband wears. Back in the early 1990s he spent his entire bonus money on 15 bottles of Egoiste Cologne Concentrate 2.5 oz pour, not spray. He now has 9 bottles left. He kept all the bottles in the freezer and a few years ago, due to the condensation, the wrappings and boxes got moist and wet. He threw out the boxes and stored the bottles in the freezer wrapped in aluminum foil to keep out any light. I always thought he was crazy but I loved the smell and a few years ago I started to dab a little on my wrist in the winter months. I got so many compliments, it was crazy. I happened to notice how crazy the prices are now for this scent. I was thinking about putting up a bottle for sale on ebay but then decided that I may get scammed. I live in NYC and thought about putting it on Craig's list or anywhere that I can meet a buyer in person and for them to examine the bottle and smell the fragrance. I truly do not need 9 bottles anymore. Does anybody have any suggestions on I can make a sale where the customer feels happy and is satisfied they bought the real deal?

This is a difficult fragrance to explain. It's just such a damn good *idea*. And then it's perfectly executed in this format. There is really no argument for it not being a masterpiece, the problem is about buying it. Here's a logical breakdown of why you should. People buying expensive niche today should be spending that money on vintage bottles of this. Kilian charges $295 for 50 ml of a few fragrances that I couldn't pick out of a lineup. Creed's Viking costs $495 for 100 ml. As of today, you can essentially match those prices for Cologne Concentree on eBay. So I don't really get the price complaints--there's nothing "higher quality" in Viking than the real Sandalwood here. There's nothing "more expensive" about the rose absolutes that Kilian uses as compared to the rose here. I'd highly encourage you to smell and then buy and then wear this. Scent: 10/10 Performance: 10/10 Overall: 10/10

Concentree in a nut shell Almost of Concentree version of the OG (Eau Sauvage Concentree, YSl homme concentree, Egoiste concentree, Tiffany for men concentree, Aramis Tuscany concentree..) will less complex and give an extreme of some interesting sides, but also a bit less balanced to the OG. Chanel Egoiste concentree is for Sandalwood lover. It's easy to wear out. Sandalwood is really strong from the begining phase. If you love sandalwood in the Egoiste OG, Bois de iles, or Guerlain Samsara..., you will see the masculine facet of sandalwood. But if you fall for love with the OG Egoiste with deep spicy, woody, sophisticated, you will find concentree version is less complex and missing something. Again, Mysore Sandalwood lovers should not miss this.

This cost me an arm and a leg to get hold of and it is identical to the vintage bottle of Egoiste in color of juice,smell and longevity.the newer version of Egoiste pales in comparison to this.A look at the color of juice is enough to tell this. this rather is more suited to the colder season than the regular juice on the market which can be an season fragrance for me as it is so watered down due to reformulations. Given the similarities between them i will say you really dont need to hunt this down when you can,with a bit of luck,get the vintage L'Egoiste rather easily on the web than you would with the concentree version.I am saving this and the vintage for very special occasions and stick to current Egoiste for regular use.

This might the my top favorite fragrance of all time. Here's why: It has so much to offer, never ever gets boring, is something you can really grow into over the years, is always sophisticated (perhaps to a fault), timeless, and strangely it will never ever spoil even after 20+ years. Virtually identical in composition (the same smell/ just much richer) to regular Egoiste so do not worry if only the edt is available. Also, I am speaking of vintage formulations of both here. The smooooth natural sandalwood is to die for and probably impossible to replicate in the modern formulations. Buying a back up of both of these in vintage formulations was one of the best fragrance decisions I ever made.

"Egoiste Cologne Concentree" Damn, where on earth can I get this? And why on earth was I never aware of this? (read: Why did i have to stumble upon this?!!) "Launched in 1992?" Are you kidding me? Why in the whole universe does it even exist?? I mean NOW, 2013???? Now I'm going to be on my crazy mission all over again to find this rare gem. Anyone who sees this, please do not buy it. I repeat. I'm Egoiste's biggest fan and please let me stay #1. (I don't think I've ever sounded this pathetic before). Well, it's only worth to be an egoist if it's for Egoiste. Polge, you got me, again!! I inherited a full, boxed bottle of this after a friend's father's passing. He had it stored in his closet and never opened it. Too bad. This version of Egoiste, a great fragrance in and of itself, surpasses the original by miles. Very rich and very woody with a noticeable evolution. The sandalwood is unreal. The staying power strong. I'm grateful to get to experience this scent, which I believe is discontinued. If you can find it on eBay, buy it. Edit: Just saw how much people are charging on eBay for this. Yikes.

Not a review - more of a question. 20 years ago I had eau de toilette. Not concentree. And it lasted forever. And left trails after me. And clothes smelt of it even after wash. I wonder if this concentree is the same as the old good quality stuff? I have done a few tests on some recent Chanel products - they don't leave much oil on a cardboard. I feel they are diluted. My long gone mum old bottle of Coco Chanel still smells. Hey, Chanel, are you coming back or are you doing well enough with current quality?

I had this one recently. Sold it to get some other bottles. I already regret it given that I'll likely never get my hands on another bottle of this. Literally the holy grail of fragrances right now. Probably the best sandalwood fragrance I've ever smelled. Unlike any other I've smelt before. The new Egoiste is pretty good but this takes that to a whole other level. If you can get your nose on it please do. For men ages 25+. A true gem. Good luck finding it. Happy Hunting!

This is not available or sold in Canada. You can find it online at Nordstrom for I stance but they will not ship it to Canada. Anyway picked some up recently in Japan. It's still great. I used to buy it in the early 90s up until they stopped selling it in Canada. I used to have the aftershave balm and the cologne. Anyway it's a classic and I am happy to be reunited with it.

1992 doesn't really surprise me at all. I bet we'd all be surprised how many of our "favorites" have other versions that we'll never know about that only exists in other countries. However, I would love to ask the higher ups at places like Chanel, "Why NOT put flanker versions of your best selling products in a large market like the USA?"

You have to really like sandal.wood to like this , it's sandalwood steroids , distinguished gentleman/family man , I couldn't imagine rocking this as even a middle aged man you have to be old man but the quality of the sandalwood is there and strong so if you have a use for that smell this is it-sandalwood MEGASTEROIDSSSSSSSSS

I have been using Egoiste since the 90s. On and off. One of my favorites. For some reason I have never got the chance to try the Concentree. If anyone has a bottle to sell, I'd be the happiest guy. :)

Sandalwood and cinnamon forward. Smother & less funky version of the OG. Discontinued on 1998. I have a FULL 2.5mL bottle if someone is interested, INBOX!
