Jersey Eau de Parfum

A while ago, I was exchanging notes with my Fragrantica pen pal Nathan — someone I really look up to, and probably one of the most knowledgeable people I’ve met in the community. I told him I was obsessed with this one for the summer. He appreciated the quintessential Chanel quality in the bottle, but didn’t quite get the point of this creation. Which, to me, is understandable. Nathan and I both passionately advocate that perfumes shouldn’t be boxed in by gender labels. But this one, I genuinely believe, is best understood and appreciated from a female perspective. Just as Coco once thought outside the box by using jersey — a fabric associated with men’s underwear or fishermen’s work clothes — and transformed it into something less constraining yet still unmistakably feminine, this perfume does the same with lavender and green aromatics. Here, lavender is the “jersey” of perfumery: stripped of its barbershop and “men’s cologne” associations, reshaped into something tender and widely wearable — yet without drifting into a stereotypically feminine direction either. I wear scents marketed toward men all the time, so I didn’t need a mindset “liberation” to enjoy masculine fougères. But I understand why some of my female friends do. We often associate certain accords with gender simply because they were historically used in gendered or class-based contexts. Changing that mindset isn’t always easy — life is already complicated, so why struggle with rethinking a scent profile? Coco understood this. She didn’t try to shock by making something overtly masculine or vulgar. She also didn’t swing too far the other way by erasing the material’s character. Jersey fabric, after all, was already very different from heavy silks or satins (often worn with uncomfortable corsets). Likewise, lavender in Jersey, the perfume, keeps its fougère backbone — unlike modern feminine scents such as Mon Guerlain, YSL Libre, or Burberry Goddess, where lavender loses its aromatic edge. (Don’t get me wrong — I love all three, but they change lavender’s character too much IMO.) Instead, Coco softened and reimagined the stereotype — and Jacques Polge did the same here. He preserved lavender and grassy aromatics’ fougère character but wrapped them in powdery musk and creamy vanilla, giving the composition a floral-woody-musk twist. Just as Coco’s cuts and designs transformed jersey fabric, Jersey the perfume turns something originally “rough” or “masculine” into something more easily appreciated by a wider circle of women. As a consumer, I know brands often create stories to justify higher prices — I’ve seen this especially with Penhaligon’s. But with Chanel Jersey, if I do eventually decide to add a full bottle to my collection, I’d be consciously and willingly paying for the story — for the liberation it represents for women. With jersey fabric in the 1920s, and with this perfume today.

I have been tough on Chanel for a long time. It was a brand that I just didn't get, a brand that as hard as I tried to find one that spoke to me in their pillar line, I failed time and time again. When I smelled Jean Patou's Joy, Sublime and 1000 they were instant loves, I understood them at once and that brand still resonates w/ me deeply. I was a Patou girl, not a Chanel girl. Then a nice perfume friend I met here sent me samples of the Allure line, which I should have been able to sample but was never able to. It was as if I had blinders on and then they had finally been taken off. I began to understand, and the crisp clean elegance of Chanel bedazzled me. I purchased a bottle of Allure EDT and decided I needed to sample 3 others in their pillar line I had not tried before and ended up falling hard for Chanel #5 eau de Premiere and purchased that as well. I never thought I would be searching for samples of Chanel's Les Exclusifs line. If you fall in love full bottle are very expensive but what the hell right? If you fall for them, you save your pennies and buy them eventually. That being said here are my thoughts on Jersey. Jersey is a very beautiful, feminine lavender fragrance. It is often difficult to make lavender truly feminine and Chanel has done so brilliantly here. Jersey smells of the finest quality lavender dusting powder. Dusty and sweet tonka bean combines w/ touches of wildflowers, green grass, fresh roses and vanillic undertones. I can smell all of the elements and notes listed above and they come together so nicely, so cooly, so perfectly. With perfect precision. This is the type of perfume worn by a woman that has such an easy way about her you would swear she never thought about style at all, but she does, oh she does, and she makes it all look so damn easy. She is a breath of fresh air, fun, and carefree but oh so polished and very, very cool. Jersey is effortless, casual elegance at its best and for the woman who employees that same sense of style about her dress and in her life. Wonderful silage and longevity. Damn Chanel you got me. You finally got me.

Jersey is quite an unexpected scent from Chanel. It is a departure from the iris and/or aldehydes that feature in several other Les Exclusifs, but it takes its inspiration from elsewhere. There were a few surprises in store for me when testing this scent! Jersey opens with a bright, herbal Jicky-like lavender note that is joined by sweet vanilla after a short while. There is a slightly syrupy violet note too. This lavender-vanilla accord of the opening is an intriguing balance of the masculine and feminine (as Coco Chanel was famous for in her designs). It has just the right amount of sweetness, and the green, realistic lavender note keeps it fresh. As a lavender lover, I appreciate the creative use of the lavender note here, as well as its prominence. Jersey becomes more floral as it develops, with rich rose and heady, sweet jasmine coming to the fore. At this stage, it becomes surprisingly similar to the more recent version of Eau Premiere, a favourite scent of mine, just with the addition of the prominent lavender note. The florals are delicious - a rich, well-rounded and high quality bouquet. As it dries down, a spicy tonka bean note emerges, as well as a clean white musk note. At this stage, the Guerlinade accord springs to mind, possibly due to the tonka, vanilla remnants and the fading floral accord. It becomes very clean and soapy as it dries down further. It fades to a sweet-yet-clean, musky skin scent. Sillage and longevity are both moderate (none of Les Exclusifs seem to have exceptional lasting power, which is a pity). One of my favourite Exclusifs. Chanel by way of Guerlain, featuring lavender. 4.5/5.

Scents can be very tricky; (from nose to nose, skin to skin, mind to mind) each person will have their own variable. Having said that a particular perfume more or less gathers a general opinion. Jersey certainly has intensity. Its not a tranquil scent to me though it certainly shares the grass accords present in bel respiro ( which is quite tranquil as a true green scent). The lavender and grass are quite strong to my nose when sprayed on my skin. At this point of first impression Jersey is in the second rung of my Chanel fragrances. I like the intensity but is that going to be enough? As I got some more acquainted with Jersey, the vanillic creaminess and the almondy bitterness ( reminds me of Comète) giving of that herbal aroma became more and more strongly noticeable alongwith the powdery note. I can see why people describe her as a comforting scent. She is interesting and does well in cool environments on my skin. I like her. Try layering the les exclusifs body crème with her to get the depth. May just broaden your smile and perspective Jersey within a short span of 10 days has gone a level up because of sharing that very well known Chanel DNA and somehow reminds me of Cuir de Russie and Bois des Isles though both the latter scents are easily distinguishable from each other. Nonetheless Jersey too is quite distinctive.

please pay attention this perfume got reformulated in 2016 I think in oct . I love it more then the EDt . So I bought 75 ml . now it's empty , I went today to harvey Nichols and tried it. what a shame , chanel reformulated jersey again ??? it's not the same why they want to reformulated in less than a year ??? my Friend told me in may that chanel reformulated some of their Exclusifs line , she was right . they reduced the thick vanilla and Tonka beans . why on earth the wanted to reduce the vanilla and Tonka ???? the lavender also reduced , . the edp oct version was long lasting the base rich vanilla almost like creamy sandal I was happy . imagine white vanilla + purple lavender + musk to me havean ssssssso calm and peace . now it's Soapy and the lavender is identical to " OMO " or " Tide " soap . still Jersey yes but not the same . the lavender now is a bit cheaper . they changed bel Raspiro Boy Jersey Biege Gardenia no 18 others are the same except n 22 is better than the EDP in oct 2016 . please keep in mind the Exclusifs line is not the same since may 2017 . try the latest " Sample " after may 2017 . cant believe it . the price is insane for 200 ml

As much as i love fragrantica , coming here and googling notes and reading some reviews , I also just can’t get over all theses people complaining about reformulations . It’s so irritating and silly. There is barely a difference between the old EDT and the new EDP , all the complaining is such a waste of energy. There are people who claim it’s differnt in different countries which is a big joke. They don’t make perfume differnt for differnt countries. Also it hasn’t been reformulated since it came out as the EDP. I don’t get people always complaining about that. It’s an amazing perfume. I love it in all versions. EDT , EDP and Extract. Is there a difference ? No, if you ask me and anyone else I know. Jersey is Jersey , a beautiful lavender vanilla done to perfection ! Warm yet fresh , soapy clean and laundry like. It will alway be one of my favourites. Lots of compliments on this one no matter what version I wear. I don’t really notice a difference. It’s all in our heads ! Wear it and enjoy !!

After trashing this perfume the first time I tried it - something about it this year absolutely seduced me. It jarred me at first because I was expecting a round, herbal, comforting lavender oil. This one is a lot greener, a lot sharper and more medicinal, and smells more like dried lavender in its astringency. This year, though, I've fallen in love. It settles down into the most BEAUTIFUL creamy lavender on clothes, and it's become my new favourite bed perfume. I spray it on my bedsheets, snuggle down in them, and wake up with the most beautiful lavender-vanilla coating my skin. Again, like the Les Exclusifs, I'd argue this isn't blind-buy safe, as much as vanilla and lavender are beautiful, this lavender is really quite bitter, and one of my family members actually recoiled from me upon smelling it. I love it, but not everyone else does. Scent: 9.5/10 Longevity: Insane - days on clothes Projection: Average Polarity: Unisex to femme

The problem with Jersey Eau de Parfum is not as the review below has addressed, more the exact opposite. As I've tried Jersey (and owned some, including a bottle of this from 2017), I can confirm that the vanilla and tonka have been increased. The lavender seems to be at the same level it always was, just slightly more watery. The Eau de Parfum is still fantastic, regardless of how dense it has become. It lasts much, much longer than the EDT did which is both a blessing and a curse. It can overwhelm. However, in the spirit of changing and EDT to make it an EDP, this is greatly to be expected. Where the EDT was airy and ethereal, the EDP is like a heavy dessert. If you're an avid user of fragrances who will get disappointed by a slight change in a scent, don't try the new formulation. If you love Jersey EDP unconditionally, try it. The same DNA is there, it just switched gloves before going out to dinner.

I love this scent. I really do. But for the price I was hoping for something other than a generic Chanel scent. Thank goodness the very nice woman at the Chanel boutique gave me a couple of samples to take with me before I made a decision to buy a big bottle. The problem I have is that when I stick my nose down my shirt to smell this up close I get all the wonderful notes listed. But as I'm walking down the street all I get is a lavender vanilla cloud, which is not unpleasant, but not quite what I was hoping for given the way this came across on the paper tester. It doesn't seem to last a long time, either. I still like it and will probably still buy a bottle, but as with a lot of fragrances I'll probably debate it in my head for a while longer! EDIT - yup, bought a bottle! The quality of this fragrance is staggering. I'm getting more of the floral notes now, in addition to the lavender and vanilla.

To " Cocolover " I think you misunderstood my review . I love the " EDP " more than the " EDt " . but chanel re reformulated the " EPD " again in april or may 2017 . I have EDP one nov 2017 and my sister have one made in jun 2017 , they're not the same . the nov 2016 is very veryyyyyyyyyyyy long lasting and the vanilla and Tonka and lavender increased , that's why I loved it . the one made in jun 2017 is soapy and the lavender feels a bit cheap like the one for clothing washing . the Tonka and vanilla is less then nov 2017 . I tired it in Harvey nicals and chanel botiques and other places just to make sure it's not my nose or i'm wrong . same thing happened with bel respire nov 2016 " EDP " it was grass sharp green . jun 2017 is magnolia soapy green cucumber so not the same . very close the chanel Cristalle " Eau verte " they released it for summer . I think in 2009 . sorry . peace .

When I smelled this initially, I thought it was light on lavender, intense on vanilla, and close to the skin. Not so. After buying it anyway, I got exactly was I was looking for: a true, herbal lavender, the right balance of vanilla, and people detect it. So my initial take was wrong. I’m thrilled with this. I had a major surgery and took a sample with me to the hospital. When I was in pain, I would spray it on my gown and feel comforted. Very inoffensive. Just beautiful! Edit/Addition - I also have Boy and don’t consider this similar. Boy is much more fougere. Geranium is a strong and distinct player in Boy. The ambretolide is a big player in Boy and completely different from Jersey. They may share a lavender note, but in Boy, it’s just top note that disappears. I don’t think they’re the same at all, especially after the first 10 minutes. (Maybe not even that long.)

I remember owning this and adoring it. It seems a little less now, especially in the vanilla, but my gosh is it still as calming as ever and it really lasts too. I suspect that may be the ongoing musk in the dry down that more or less just refuses to relent. It's rather remarkable how beautiful this fragrance still is, after the 6 years of it being available. The EdT, much like with N°18, had it's appeal with its lightness and we honestly thought that was enough. For some it was, and that's understandable. I enjoyed the fleeting quality, too. However, the longevity and strength this has compared to the EdT is also something to be enjoyed. Its not a straight up lavender and vanilla as it was, but that just works to its favour.

If you're unfamiliar with Chanel's Les Exclusifs, you might think that the exclusive line of such an exclusive house would be comprised of highfalutin scent after highfalutin scent. You'd be mistaken. Jersey is one of the collection's "comfort" scents. Meant to evoke the ease of cotton jersey fabric, this scent feels like the calm of a day spent indoors, never taking one's pajamas off, cuddling up with a book and/or a pet. (My pets are pretty demanding, so reading can be difficult with them near!) Chanel works wonders with lavender (see also: Boy), and here, it's surrounded by the plushest, fluffiest vanilla musk. Jersey is a terrific scent, but one that's often overlooked among Les Exclusifs. Let's change that.

This is one of my favourite lavender fragrances. It lasts forever (18+ hours on my skin) and calms me down when little else does. It's a lavender fragrance, but isn't just lavender; that is to say, it blends well with the other notes to create an accord that feels more complex than singularly lavender perfumes. The vanilla is dry, the tonka is raw. Jasmine (a note that is in all my favourite Chanels), rose and musk dance together with the aforementioned notes in the first 5-6 hours which creates a "clothing" type accord. Freshly cleaned. Then it becomes more vanilla and lavender forward for the remaining wear-time. After, say, 12 hours it's much more close to the skin but definitely still detectable. Beautiful!

Jersey surprised me the most! I tried it on paper multiple times and have always been meh about it. I thought it was boring comparing to other Exclusifs. But I finally decided to give it a chance on skin and wow, it's something else! I love Beige and it seems to me like Jersey is the bolder brother of Beige. Both are very floral, but Jersey smells more purple if that makes sense. It's beautiful on my skin. I love to be positively surprised like that! That being said, longevity is pathetic just like with any other Chanel fragrances today. They are manufactured to tempt you with beautiful, powerful openings and evaporate as quickly as possible. Not reaching 2 hours mark.

Magnificent! Delightful symphony of white musks, sugar, lavender and wild flowers. All in perfect balance creating a rare harmony from top note till the very beautiful end, many hours later - work of a genius. My nose tells me it's not so much vanilla that's responsible for the chiffon-like sweetness, but rather an intelligent combination of ethyl maltol with cashmeran and clary sage, which support and extend the "lavender effect". Chanel mandatory aldehyde accord is also playing its role of course. Gentle florals soften the whole spectacle, I detect chamomile I believe. I absolutely adore it! Definitely large bottle worthy, which is what I ended up with....

Soft cushiony lavender and vanilla. Sweeter than the type of lavender you’d get in an austere fougère, but not overly sweet. More pillowy and easy and clean. Comforting. Leans feminine but not girly, if that makes sense. For the price this feels like a very simple perfume, but it also feels very high quality. Jersey could probably be worn by any person at any time in any situation. I could see it on a glamorous woman at a black tie event, and just as easily on a young guy on his way to work. The longevity is only about 4 hours sadly.

it's official . if your bottle is empty , please don't blind buy it . go test it . 5 days went to harvey Nichols , and today I went to chanel boutique what a shame . I llllllllllloved this perfume chanel so much . calming , Casual , airy , simple , clean , cozy , very " Provence " . why did you do that . I have the money I wanted to buy the 200 ml with the extrait ,I couldn't the reform is really soapy and the lavender almost gone , the creamy vanilla too .

I adore this perfume. (Jersey EDP) It’s pricey, but so worth it. So soft, clean and comforting. I get quite a bit of lavender, vanilla, and almost a watery scent. The only con is price, and it could be stronger, but I love it so much I will reapply. It’s a warmer weather scent IMO, but looking forward to seeing its performance in colder temps. It also is a great layering perfume, I try it with others containing lavender or vanilla.

A very nice lavender scent with a musky amber base. There's a bit of tonka that smoothes it out. A very simple yet enjoyable scent. It reminds me of on I already own by Gucci, but with lavender and more musk, and not as strong as Eyes of the tiger. Spring, cozy, fuzzy, hints of fruit, lavender, vanilla, musk, sweet. Reminds me of the vibe of soft cotton candy but NOT the scent. Childhood freedom. Classy and sparkly with Chanelade. Not me and not something I'd buy but a great scent to have tried. I could see a spunky, cool, artsy and athletic girl next door who's a friend wearing this in the Spring. This one is the perfect Chanel and perfect vanilla lavender perfume. Sparkly and warm, not too herbal and quite soft. I wear this whenever I want to feel elegant and comfortable. Sometimes I layer with L'Occitane Lavender body lotion and hand cream, and also Lush's Twilight talcum dust. Perfect for all seasons, I'm not sure if it's good for every day in my opinion. It's too good for that.

This wonderful Jacques Polge fragrance evokes the freshness and whiteness of clean linen stored in cedar wood drawers. Reassuring fragrance, which carries within itself the sweet floral triumph of lavender in accord with jasmine and rose, the sweetness of tonka bean vanilla and the fresh warmth of musk. A very refined blend that evokes purity and freshness.

Just got this one and I’m thrilled to be able to smell the lavender in it!! I’ve tried many other “lavender “ fragrances such as Libre, Mon Guerlain and the new perfume Goddess but could never pick up the lavender note in them- I always found the floral and vanilla scents but never the lavender. Finally the lavender I’ve been searching for- loving it!!!😍

This is one of my favorites—truly beautiful. At first, it felt weak and almost too faint, but after about 4–6 months I started noticing a real change. Now, at 18 months, it’s fully come into its own—loud, rich, and impressively persistent on the skin. A clear reminder that some perfumes need time to reveal their true depth. Be patient...

This Chanel smells very posh very unique. The lavender on this one smells very nice and with the vanilla combo it smells very creamy quite chalky and powdery.. I couldn’t help but compare this one to Boy as both are lavender based and have hints of white musk and both smell powdery. I feel that men can pull this one off quite well.

I am crazy about this perfume, the twist from almost pure lavender to a way more musky, spicy and warm scent during the day is a perfect reflection of the impression you want your scent to give to other people. I wear it all through the wintertime. One critique is that it can be a bit powdery - but so can many of the Chanel EDP's

LOVE! Pour un Homme de Caron's older and more sophisticated sister; lavender, vanilla, white musk, tonka, balanced with a lovely jasmine. Very soothing (almost aromatherapeutic), and effortless in its elegance. Perfect for summer, long-lasting (8+ hours) with strong sillage in the heat. An absolute must.

Jersey is everything! I never liked lavender until Jersey. It always came off too harsh, too old fashioned, just too too much. But ** JERSEY ** JERSEY... has me in a chokehold! Soft, airy, fluffy lavender, ethereal white musk, and a perfectly smooth, semi-sweet vanilla. Literal perfection.

I love this! To me a get a lavender citrus right away. Longevity is amazing and sillage is also good. I noticed there are not citruses in the notes but I think the lavender and musk come out citrus on my skin. Unisex and clean smelling! Spring and summer fragrance! Highly recommeded 10/10

Gorgeous with real, woody lavender and a blanket of white musk, gentle tonka, and even a dose of iris. Three sprays actually does alright for me - I can get constant whiffs, so the perfume is not as weak as I feared. It's a heavenly cloud of relaxation and bliss. Goes with anything.

Lol the world may has gone mad But I find the EDP just great. In fact I have two edt bottles of jersey as it is my signature scent. But I am giving one of them to my friend so I don't feel so guilty getting the new EDP which in my experience lasts longer and is even more beautiful.

I am a fan of Jersey EDT ... the EDP is flat and lacks the character of the EDP. And it actually disappears on my skin in half the time of the EDT ... I can't believe the EDP will replace the EDT - then again I can hardly believe Trump is now president. Has the world gone mad?

This is the most slept on of the Les Exclusif scents. This is so comforting and gentle, but has lasting power. It's a dreamy creamy powdery lavender. I have 6 of the Les Exclusif now, Le Lion being my favorite, but this has easily taken second place over Coromandel. Love it.

This is a high class, powdery floral which would be the daily wear for someone of high class. The musky scent mixed with the powdery vanilla lavender combines on my skin to make a fancy smelling musk. Wish it weren't so expensive but I love it.

Such an elegant lavender scent. At first I thought I smelled honey (really soft as if diluted in an infusion), then the lavender appears clearly, melted with the jasmine. A beautiful floral with a light gourmand feeling, very subtle.

I still have Lush American cream in solid form and when I tried Jersey today, it really smell very similar. Its a lovely lavender and vanilla, very comforting and easy to wear. It went strait to my want list. Love it.

@eliseisabella1 are you sure that you have smelled Jersey? Because it has a very realistic, distinguishable lavender opening and evolves into vanillic soapiness. I get hints of No.5 Premiere also.

This is a soothing perfume to smell and is comfortable to wear. A really good choice if you’re feeling stressed out. On me, this dries down to smell like palma violets, which I enjoy.

lavender and vanilla... who wouldve thought they wud make a perfect pair. this is pure bliss and calming. im wearing this tonight to bed and i think im in heaven!

Effortless. An elegant woman in just a clean boyfriend’s white T, lit with morning sunlight. She has no makeup on but she doesn’t care, it’s her day off.

Love at first sniff, such a beautiful fragrance.

Thank you @richechka, yes after several wearings there is a big difference. For me it is the lemon and grapefruit at the top of Boy that feels fougere. Interestingly I see it the opposite as you’ve noted with Jersey feeling a lot more fluffy and powdery due to the lavender and vanilla and musk, making Boy the more suitable of the two to wear as a daytime scent, at least for me, and Jersey a great bedtime scent. However, the drydown on Boy is very powdery and is where they start to align most, but it is still a bit aromatic while the musk on Jersey gets pretty intense. The end of Boy does deepen with the sweetness of coumarin, sandalwood, but the Jersey stays with the musk and I can barely smell grass or flowers. Both amazing scents and I am considering adding a bottle of Jersey to my collection as I've been wearing my decant regularly as I wind down for the night. Such an amazing lavender.

This scent was recommended to me as a pure vanilla and lavender combo. While both are big components this is a much more complex and floral dominant scent with a very delicate powdery but also sweet facet that reminds me a bit of violet. There is a nice attempt at a green powdery 'flower stem' vibe, think of the dewy green ends of a flower bouquet, encased in a Guerlain-like cloud of vanillin. The lavender isn't the herbal warm type, but rather an ethereal sparkle on the top adding no bitterness to the composition. Definitely feminine leaning with a very natural powdery sweet musky green vibe. I imagine this working best on a very elegant well-dressed woman in her 30s or 40s.

The lavender is prominent, beautiful, and realistic to my nose on the initial spray. Just like the scent that comes from crushing my dried lavender seeds between my fingers. I don't understand comparisons to dryer sheets or laundry at all - maybe other people are using classier cleaning products than I. Jersey doesn't seem like an appropriate name for this perfume... cashmere seems a more appropriate fabric. It's a calming, gentle composition that turns into an intimate skin scent on me. I wear it to bed and when my mood is a little sad or anxious. I have a feeling this will be a great layering perfume too.

I wasn't attracted to it in store. I fortuned across a sample and on first spray of my first wearing, I found it to be a very aromatic lavender that I didnt think was for me. To my delight, after a couple minutes, the aromatics settled down and the blend between the lavender and vanilla was nice. Im not the biggest fan of lavender in fragrances unless it's blended the way that Initio Rehab deals with it. In Jersey, the lavender is a lot more prominent than in Rehab, but I find it enjoyable in a calming, pleasant way. It feels expensive and natural and has the Chanel swag about it.

Recognizable Chanel No 5 aldehydes (do they use the same aldehydes for multiple scents?) lightly applied, nice dusty lavender, lightly salty vintage vibes without being too challenging. Jersey is another No. 5 flanker, really. This one plays on the powdery aspects of No. 5. I think so many of these newer Chanel fragrances choose one ingredient or aspect from No 5 and enlarge it into it's own fragrance. Jacques Polge is a master of this, and I'll certainly enjoy my sample.
