Paris – Édimbourg

Paris - Edimbourg has often been regarded as the best of the Eaux de Chanel line and personally, I can see why. It's a fantastically aromatic scent in a more fresh execution - especially in direct comparison to Sycomore, which is an obvious point of reference, seeing how both are very green-aromatic perfumes by Chanel. Paris - Edimbourg starts off with bright citric notes that Fragrantica for some reason lacks in the perfume pyramid (even if they are listed on the Chanel website). The citrics help the fragrance to a very uplifting opening, especially since the aromatics immediately shine through and without the citrus notes, the opening would be much more muted. This way, however, Paris - Edimbourg remains fresh and awake throughout its opening and that influences my perception of it a lot. To keep up with the comparison with Sycomore: Where Sycomore starts green-woody-earthy-aromatic, Paris-Edimbourg starts citric-fresh-green-aromatic and it makes all the difference. From here on out, the perfume quickly finds its front-and-center aromatics. The Juniper is the main, dominant expression and brings with it a typical aromatic sweetness. The cypress note accompanies it and stops the perfume from going into a berry-like heaviness. Instead, what I found in Paris - Edimbourg was the impression of an evergreen hedge in a mild and refreshing spring rain. As if you picked a twig, broke it off and rubbed the evergreen "leaves" (if they are called that way) between your fingers. Behind the aromatic-citric freshness and the juniper-sweetness lies a raspy, slightly peppery cedar accord, which gives some depth without ever making the fragrance heavy. There is no earthiness here, even when the citrics fade an hour or a little more in. Even in moments where the wood takes over, it's still a very light interpretation of aromatics and it at no point develops a "Terre d'Hermes"-like bitterness - something I personally very much approve of. From about four to five hours in, Paris - Edimbourg develops some medicinal qualities, which I attribute to the Juniper more than anything else. At times, this note can develop into a direction like that and the same happened to me with Sycomore. In fact, in the late drydown, Paris - Edimbourg and Sycomore were much more aligned than during the first three to four hours, where the former is much fresher than the latter. Overall though, where I wouldn't wear Sycomore in Summer, I think Paris - Edimbourg is very much a spring and summer scent. Its freshness and aromatic-uplifting style is excellent in all but the highest of heats and humidities and I think it's a fantastic scent for outside and inside in warmer weather. It's all-around lovely and even if it is a little fleeting, I think it's one of the best and easiest to wear green fragrances I have tested so far. Lacking Terre d'Hermes bitterness, Sycomores earthyness and without a hint of soapyness, I can absolutely recommend it for warmer days. In fact, I might just want to own this for myself. Edit: I did, in fact, get it, and do not regret it one bit. Such a lovely scent. Such delicious aromatic citricness. I am absolutely in love. If you have so far slept on the Les Eaux line, I thoroughly implore you to try at least this one if you can. It is fantastic and I essentially never recommend something as blanket as I recommend Paris - Edimbourgh. With Perfume being as subjective as it is, P-E stands out as an all-time great aromatic freshie for me. I keep being amazed.

On first spritz, and for the next 5 minutes, you're blasted with a refreshing gust of juniper and cypress. The cypress in this opening phase is best described as verdant. This, in combination with the juniper, reminds me of an early, misty yet bright morning camping in an evergreen forest. Once the first 5 mins have past you start to get a peek of the middle/heart notes poking through reinforcing the previous memory which start to more fully develop at about the 15 minute mark after first application. Moving on to the 30-45 min mark we get the base notes where the musk has that distinctive Chanel je ne sais quoi and the vanilla is not very sweet but almost like a jar that once upon a time had some vanilla pods stored in it and now the smell is just a memory... The combination of head and heart notes is almost certainly what I associate with Scotland more generally, green-aromatic-woods, both overcast and beams of sunshine poking through. The lavender is almost completely aromatic to my nose, which suits me down to the ground. I am not a big fan of vetiver, something in my fragrance history ruined it for me by being outrageously smoky yielding an almost noxious quality to the fragrance but I'll be damned if can I remember it. However, the vetiver here is beautiful, a deft touch complementing the aromatic quality of the head and heart. I am not usually a fan of Chanel mens (disclosure: I am a man) but this was so unique and beautifully balanced I purchased it the day after taking home a sample on paper. This is marketed as a unisex fragrance and I feel like it is quite close to achieving that, although I would say the dry down does remind me of something in Chanel's mens line-up. Emphasis on remind, it isn't completely masculine and if I had never smelled most of Chanel's mens offerings I would not have that association. This is quite a dry fragrance, possibly what makes people suggest it is masculine leaning but it has it's own sweetness coming from the vanilla that supports the entire structure of the notes above it. This is a masterpiece, shame it is quite short lived. It will project readily with gusto for the first hour, the second is more intimate and by hour 3-4 it is still going as a skin scent. Beyond that it will require a top up or layering. This is something I would spray on 5 mins before entering the office and top up post lunch. When I bought this it had only been released a month or so and retailed at £112 for 125ml. I have used it at least once per week since then and have used maybe 1/10th or less of the bottle. It came with a perfectly bottle sized Chanel soft carry pouch which is a nice touch for travelling with. TLDR: Refreshing sense of being in the cool shade of evergreen woods on a warm day. Value: 3/5. A little more than average considering the short-lived nature of it but the large bottle size and proximity to release date. Smell: 5/5. This is fantastic. It is fresh, unique and perfectly balanced. Performance: 2.5/5. It lasts about 3-4 hours on me and I'm quite warm blooded. Use cases: Office or casual day out. I think it works in warmer Spring/Autumn weather (15-18C) but on colder days I think the balance will be thrown off but I will edit once the appropriate weather comes.

Edimburg was a blind buy for me, full price. I must have been crazy, but since my collection is way too big, I kind of stopped buying for a while. And then the desire hit me, and here I go. My previous purchase was Ani, which I adore, also a blind buy. I was encouraged by the success of that, and tried my luck again. Well, Edimburg smells like nothing else I own, and I have at least 400 bottles. It is an edt, ( it says so on the box) in a very simple bottle, with a simple box. The scent it muted, very natural smelling, I guess more of an ambiance smell than a perfume. The liquid is green and so is the scent. The opening comes with a gin/juniper flavour, mixed with tiny amount of ginger. The ginger disappears and then something resembling Chanel Eau Verde comes. That transforms into a fresh lumber scent, mixed with conifers and strangely enough, quite a lot of cold incense. To give you a very accurate visual, imagine yourself walking in a coniferous forest, damp, fresh cool air early in the morning, with a nearby Christian Orthodox Church ringing the bells and calling people to the liturgy, while their typical incense envelopes the air and the evergreen trees nearby. Anyone who has visited the monasteries in Easter Europe will know what I am talking about. It's spiritual and pure, like godly hymn. I can see why some people say it's masculine, simply because it has no feminine facet, although I think a better word would be asexual. I use this word instead of unisex because truly I cannot assign a sexual preference to a scent that smells like pine trees, lumber, fresh air, antique church walls, and incense. It is very beautiful, with a sombre elegance. If prayer had a scent, it would probably be Edimburg. I am a lady who has been on a vanilla ride for a long time now, and who also enjoys floral and gourmands. This is totally out of my comfort zone, yet I love it. By the way, I don't smell any lavender, vanilla, musk or sweetness here. I have no idea where I will wear this, other than at church. The silage is minimal, unfortunately. Lasting power not fabulous either. But the scent is so unusual, so photorealistic and evocative, albeit sad, I can't help but admire its artistry and love it quietly. This one will never get mass appeal, it'll just be for collectors.

Les Eaux isn't my favorite of the Chanel product lines. I liked Deauville, was ambivalent about Venise and Riviera and, while I thought Barritz was OK, I opted not to buy a bottle because I did not see myself getting any use out of it. For this reason, I approached Édimbourg with reduced expectations. Well, when I got my nose on it, I was very pleasantly surprised. This scent, while not like any of the other Chanel compositions I know, is nonetheless excellent. The juniper in the opening is almost herbal but also citrusy. This note will remind those who know it of the non-alcoholic elements of Tanqueray Ten gin. This opening is vanishingly fleeting and is soon replaced by a woody, almost minty vetiver. Additionally, something in the heart notes introduces a camphorous note that continues to crop up for the duration of this fragrance. It may be that the lavender and evergreen notes are creating this almost eucalyptus accord, but wherever it comes from, it is delightful. As the heart notes continue, a slight resinous, smokey note shows itself and it, too, is wonderful. The base is a vanillic musk that is the only part of this scent that shows any Chanel DNA. It bears more than a passing similarly to the bases of several of Les Exclusifs. This fragrance really does conjure up the image of an afternoon drinks party on a terrace overlooking a beautiful Scottish landscape replete with evergreens, old-growth hardwoods, heather and even a bit of peatmoss. This unisex fragrance is highly evocative, elegant and strikingly composed from a palate not expected from Chanel. The quality is impressive as is the way this fragrance is seamlessly blended. Longevity seems better on my skin than the previous Les Eaux. Projection is moderate. I don't love the bottle design, it is not among the house's best, but it is nice enough and the atomizer is great. I am sure many Chanel fans will not appreciate Édimbourg and I am just as certain that lots of folks who don't enjoy most of what the house does will love it. Therefore, sample first, with an open mind, and prepare to be impressed or, perhaps, disappointed. For me, this is a love. Recommended.

It's extremely easy to be seduced by the many interesting and exotic niche fragrances on the market and forget all about high-quality designer fragrances. I know I've fallen into that trap over the last few years, probably to my detriment. I've seen quite a few negative comments on Fragrantica about Chanel, so when a fellow member suggested I try Paris – Édimbourg, I was sceptical. As a bit of backstory, the suggestion came after I'd written a review in which I said that I was always hoping to find a fragrance like Dior's original Eau Sauvage that lasted longer, and how much I loved scents that give off a gin 'n' tonic vibe. In the hope of finding that combination, and on the strength of the recommendation, I tentatively purchased a full bottle. My hopes of finding such a combination were dashed as soon as I sprayed Paris – Édimbourg. To my nose, it lacked the citrus sparkle of Eau Sauvage, and although I could detect the juniper berries, they were blended so seamlessly into the composition that I found little in the way of a gin 'n' tonic vibe. All of that sounds rather negative, but it isn't, because although it wasn't what I was expecting, it turned out to be a fantastic fragrance in an altogether different way. It opens with a menthol-like freshness, yet somehow manages to feel smooth, rounded, warm and comforting at the same time. I often find menthol to be sharp and medicinal, but not here. As it develops, the cedar and cypress notes begin to shine, creating the impression of walking through an aromatic mountain woodland. The vetiver is evident without ever overpowering the woody notes. It is quite glorious and perfect for the hottest of hot days. Of course, the danger with any fresh fragrance is that it will soon dissipate in high heat. Not so with Paris – Édimbourg; it continues to perform well on my skin after more than eight hours. This is "designer fragrance" at its best. Tested: 30ml full decant Seasons / occasions: Perfect for baking hot summer days and cooller evenings. Key thoughts: Fresh as a mountain woodland. Excellent. Overall rating: 9/10 Buy full bottle: Already did and would again.

On paper, I got a very nice fresh juniper and cypress forward fragrance. I got very excited, as juniper is one of my favorite notes in fragrances. But I'm glad I asked for a sample, because on skin, it's a different story. The top reveals to be fully citrus forward. Then, a shy cypress gets out of it, slowly. The base is probably the most interesting part, with a musky-woody accord, rounded with a hint of vanilla and vetiver and surprisingly, a citric freshness that comes back. In the late drydown some smoky juniper will finally appear. Longevity is good, but the fragrance is a skin scent right from the start. It's a nice unisex fragrance - I'm not going to state the opposite, nor state that it's really great, because it's not - but one thing I will afford to underline: it has already been done before. But isn't it that the magic of Dior and Chanel? Market as 'new' to the masses what already exists since 10 years in smaller houses? For a great juniper centric fragrance, I'd recommend L'Humaniste by Frapin any day over this one, which is vastly superior to my nose and from which Polge has very likely been inspired (as well as Juniper Sling by Penhaligon's, a real juniper centric fragrance, very airy and zingy but also with fleeting performance, or Oh, Oh...Ooohhh! by Miller et Bertaux, a dryer fragrance if a hint of smoke is appreciated) . Had a middle eastern fragrance house issued that one, everybody would have called out a cloning attempt of L'Humaniste, but it's Chanel, so... In a nutshell: nice, but I wish the price tag would have deserved to be as light as its projection. Edit: I now think that it's a great fragrance. Not very refined like the top high end line of Chanel, but shoots beyond the regular line, for a simlar pricing, and it's a great masculine release. Performance is also stronger than I thought. Performs like a good EDT.

Thank god for Chanel. I have been on a bit of a hiatus from sampling new releases what with work and COVID etc.... and a couple of highlights when I finally returned to sampling duties, were this and Le Lion. So Edinburgh is an interesting inspiration for Chanel and the Les Eaux line, which I haven't really gotten along with, I know it's not their intent to be as bold and rich as the les exclusifs or even the regular line but I found them really quite boring, I shall have to revisit. Edinbourg though is very much my sort of flavour. It's a green, mossy, fresh fragrance. The juniper is massively present but what is interesting is that it doesn't smell piney or woody like the EO, (woody notes come from cedar in here) it's very much like the gin process of botanical, infusion and distillation. It has a lightness and true juniper character, unlike so many effervescent, dry Gin & Tonic perfumes, this is very well fleshed out in true Chanel fashion. It is only light of course, it's a Les Eaux after all but it's still very present and I think it's decent value for money considering what a lovely perfume you are getting. Yeah I really like it. I actually want a bottle. Update: 25/06/21 So inevitably I got it. I prioritised this purchase over what I would consider more historical or pressing desires because, it’s just perfect for the season and I want a big bottle of something fresh which I can apply liberally and not think too much about. A couple of things spring to mind... one being, this is a bit like if Pino Silvestre had some class, or if Green Irish Tweed wasn’t produced by maniacs! It has a signature ‘Chanel’ thing to it, soft, subtle, despite being all quite pointed woody notes, it smells of exactly Cedar, juniper, cypress, pine, perhaps a touch of lavender but all balanced and softened beautifully.

I am amazed by how different my experience of Edimbourg is to the consensus below. First of all, massive citrus burst in the opening, lemon mostly with some bergamot, which are also listed on the official website. Second of all, a massive herbal accord front and center from opening to dry down, clary sage, cold, 'silver', and almost tea-like, dry woody rosemary, and lavender, the natural dry, slightly sweet almost hay-like type. In the dry down some dry cedar shavings and vetiver adding some earthiness to complete the naturalist walk in the woods (or herbal garden). Overall it is phenomenal, the type of fragrance you could keep on spraying without ever getting sick of it, a calming walk in nature, to my nose leaning masculine because of the dry herbal presence, but perhaps still in the realm of unisex. I am however a bit conflicted on one aspect, namely the price. It's not outrageous compared to most of the niche market, but ultimately the open question that remains is if there are classic inspired EdC scents that could rival this one. Citrus herbs and woods is not a unique combo by any means and I can't exclude the possibility that there is an obscure and similar scent to this one some where out there, my next target is Bavanariz Rosemary and Lavender Cologne, but I am open to suggestions. P.s. L'Humaniste, AdP Ginepro and Juniper Sling smell nothing like this. Edit: I’m revoking my remark about pricing. Having thoroughly browsed the genre, nothing really compares at the end of the day in terms of elegance and overall quality.

This is an interesting aromatic fragrance with some fougere touches. I would say this is something of a modern fougere. It takes elements from several other fragrance I have sampled and fuses them to become its own thing. There are touches of Tom Ford Grey Vetiver, and Encre Noire, added lavender note similar to Une Pour Homme Carron. Beautiful blending, light, airy, and almost effervescent on initial application. Everything smells so natural, the cypress and juniper are photorealistic. As it dries down, the vetiver definitely starts to take the show. In the late stages the musk overtakes the vetiver. Performance is average, 6 hours on cooler days, less as the heat intensifies. This is probably best used from the Spring through to the middle of Autumn. It could be worn indoors in the late Autumn and Winter, definitely very office safe scent profile. Unisex leaning masculine. This could potentially layer well with some neutral florals and be used more effectively by women. The price is very good considering how much the original MSRP was and the decent availability second hand and on discounters. I have often seen full or mostly full second hand 125ml bottles floating around the $85-110 range. High quality perfumery at a fair price for Chanel. I may be adding this to my collection at some point in the next few years. It's one of those fragrances that I would enjoy wearing, but would have to be in a very specific mood to wear.

When I was a child, it was somewhat common to lay out branches of juniper or spruce at the entrance of your house around Christmas. When you arrived as a guest and stepped on this festive season's door mat, it releases the snow from underneath your shoes while at the same time the branches would release a strong conifer scent of essential oils – a scent that reigned supreme in a botanical world that was otherwise in its deepest winter sleep. In a child's mind, that scent also initiated and released all the suspense and joy over arriving at a Christmas party, at the homes of relatives you did not see much for the rest of the year. The house itself would smell fresh of pine needles and lavender, since everyone used a special, natural soap for the kind of wooden floors that are common in my country. Little surprise for me personally, then, living through a few fairly cold and dark weeks every year, that Paris-Édimbourg quickly became my favourite winter fragrance. It has very well blended notes that I find immensely bright and refreshing – in a dark winter it is the perfect uplifting scent for outdoor activities that brightens your day every time. The sun's winter solstice has passed, and all your biological, unconscious focus is on the fact that every day brings a little more light and spring is a little bit closer in time. Although Paris-Édimbourg is not a signature scent for me, it is the perfect companion for those days.

This is a very nice green smelling fragrance. Off the top this fragrance smells like a wet pine tree. I know that might not sound appealing to some but it smells very nice on the skin, it took me a while to understand what I was smelling. This is what I smelled based off trying it out on the skin, you can definitely smell the cypress and juniper berries off the top followed by what smells like wet cedar, I also smell a hint of lime zest in the backbone, I also smell hints of mint, it could be the way all the green notes were blended together on this fragrance but overall, it’s a very nice Green Natural smelling fragrance. I can see why some compare it to a Forrest after a rainy day. Edit: As I wore this fragrance more there was something nostalgic about its aroma. The cypress note at the top sparks childhood memories of the days when I walked to kindergarten every morning and smelled the trees planted around my school. I loved smelling the wet cypress trees and the sweet gum trees that smelled of citrus. It was a moment in my life were I was beginning to learn the different smells of my surroundings. This fragrance is magical for bringing those lovely memories of my childhood. Chanel is currently my favorite fragrance house and will be for some time to come.

When I was a young, imaginative kid, I'd collect all sorts of vegetation into a bowl and pretend that I was an herbalist or a warlock creating a potion. I remember examining the smell of these twigs, leaves, berries, seeds, I recall often grabbing the needles of the Leyland Cypress hedges and the berries of the juniper hedges and adding them in. I'd crush them a bit to smell their dry, coniferous, earthy, somewhat sweet aroma. Paris-Édimbourg gives me flashbacks of this, sending me to where my sense of wonder is domiciled deep in my brain, awakening it. Sure, we can imagine that this would be an attractive wear for someone who wishes to feel well-groomed and well-heeled, and pontificate on its utility and function. Pondering whether it has appropriate sillage for a retreat to the Hamptons would feel so disingenuous for me. Thinking about childlike fascination feels more authentic, so I will go with that. The astringent, quenching qualities of the top notes simmer into a smokier, herbaceous heart, with the juniper berries eclipsed by rosemary and thyme sprigs, a subtly smoky wood, and a cool, fuzzy green not-quite-berry-sweet musk. This is something I'd wear for a jaunt to Vermont to complement my surroundings and lean into wonder; that's more my speed.

Unique, AROMATIC, soothing, masculine female scent with a clean pine-tree character. When a man wear this, it s absolutely masculine, but freshly pine-like aromatic and classy. Great pillow spray and invoking a very Christmas like feeling. So classy and cozy. It smells zesty, softly sweet, aromatic and feminine on me. Opens with prominent cypress, then joining in are the juniper and lavender. It turns a veeeery tiny bit Chanel soapy (Chanel DNA), certainly not unpleasant and absolutely not prominent or something. Then the cedar and vetiver come through as well and it turns and stays somewhat zesty, yet aromatic, ginger beer-like and aldehydic. On my skin (as expected with Chanel on me) it blends in wonderfully to a skin like scent. It's soft, powdery, sweet, very grassy-like fresh and I can smell warm Christmas tree delicious sour red berries. Sweet spicy. I am addicted. Damn. The projection is very office appropriate. :) For a unisex scent this ain't masculine. I find that surprising due to the cypress That made me initially think it was going to be more masculine leaning. It's unisex, yes, but also very feminine. It's aromatic and soft like Chanel allure. It's unique. I bet if you love Allure Chanel, you will also like this one.

This is exactly what was so far missing in the whole Chanel line- a straightforward, incredibly bright, addictive herbal aromatic! Not "masculine-leaning", but an absolute unisex, one could also call it a genderless scent. Come on ladies! Lets try to get out of this mindset that everything fresh, herbal and woody leans masculine. This one is a rare true unisex herbal aromatic that smells very natural on top of everything, no barber shop in sight:). It even plays slightly sweet and juicy on my skin compared to other such undoubtedly unisex classics (like Hermes Orange Vert etc). Vanilla is clearly pronounced. I really like Sycomore too, but find them not too close to each other. Different interpretations of the vetiver. Really amazing bright vivid green lavender-cypress with touch of juniper (lavender over juniper on my skin) and very lovely vetiver. Although its not listed, I also smell a bit of fresh coriander (a bit like in Voyage) and some other wild herbs. Its a happy energetic blend, crystal clear spontanious and very easy to wear, whilst smelling high-quality and very fitting part of Chanel brand. Btw, not at all bad performer, more than others in Les Eaux line. Big love, an instant Wish-list addition.

When I smell this, I smell the following: A man, young, who cares about his hygiene/appearance without being too powerful. His family comes from old money, he spends his summers playing tennis, and likes to walk through the Hamptons in fair isle sweaters and loafers. His drink of choice is a gin and tonic, with extra lime. He only orders one and drinks it slowly- he likes the taste. He has a bubbly personality, and a nice smile. You might think he naturally smells like this... if he hadn’t told you he wore Chanel. You know how popular men’s hygiene brands (Dr. Squatch, Cremo, Huron) are releasing colognes nowadays to match their traditionally masculine soaps? This, to me, is quite similar to those types of smells, just lifted to the VERY TOP of the quality index. It has a classic men’s forest-y smell (juniper and cypress aromatics) and it just smells so freaking good. Work, school (probably an Ivy League school lol), or just about any daytime occasion is viable for wearing this. Absolute beauty.

Paris-Edimbourg by Chanel is a herbal, woody, and aromatic fragrance. The opening of this fragrance is herbal and slightly citrusy, but it quickly transitions into an aromatic and woody phase dominated by the scent of cypress and juniper. To a lesser extent, cedarwood and a kind of incense are also present, which reminded me of Loewe 7. The scent doesn't change much, but as it stands, I found it quite pleasant. This fragrance could be worn in all four seasons. It contains notes that work well in cold weather, and although it's not exactly very fresh, it has enough freshness to be worn during the summer. Perfect for the office, special or formal occasions, or simply for personal enjoyment. Its longevity was over 8 hours with moderate sillage. I liked the scent of this fragrance; it's elegant, more masculine than unisex in my opinion. As for the price, well, Chanel has never been and never will be cheap, but it's within the standard designer price range.

You can tell immediately upon applying Paris-Édimbourg its affilation with the rest of the Les Eaux de Chanel line: it's got the same sort of citrus at the top and musk notes at the base. The nice thing here is that the other, forestal notes -- the juniper, cypress, cedar, and lavender -- are not the things you normally come across is a summer freshie, so they make the whole thing seem quite special. It reminds me of hiking in a coniferous forest on a hot day, but since its so elegant (the ingredients are very high quality, as always with this line), it feels like you're on a hike with members of the royal family at Balmoral. This doesn't have the voluptuousness of Paris-Deauville, which still my favorite in the Eaux line from Chanel, but it's certainly one of the very best among the line, and has a kind of aristocratic quality to it. This is a really special unisex summer fragrance, and it would be quite wearable in the shoulder seasons as well.

I have a sample of this. It is out of my norm. I typically do not go for scents that remind me of male cologne. However, I cannot stop sniffing this one. I do believe it is unisex leaning masculine. It is cooling and refreshing and I am awaiting my full bottle. I wear Paris-Paris from the Chanel Les Eaux line almost every day since about a month after I purchased it. It is like a different scent after settling and some use. At first that one was short-lived and so light as to be undetectable in an hour. A month later it is deeper and warmer and lasts all day. It layers well, but goes well on its own. I wonder what will happen to Paris-Édimbourg one month in. Chanel fragrances are really not a one sniff and good to go fragrance house. I love it! I got a vial after the purchase of a couple perfumes from Chanel, ignored this for a few months and just recently applied it, to my surprise I'm really REALLY loving it. This review is based on my initial excitement, so take it with a grain of salt; having owned 60+ fragrances, I'm aware that having such a feelings is not uncommon on the initial purchase and may fade away for something newer more exciting eventually. It's pleasant, inoffensive, light, fizzy, a little bitter-tart-balmy herbal, refreshing and very natural smelling fougere. Not a hint of syntheticness or cloyingness to it. It conjures up the image of chilling on a summer evening with iced cocktails in a dewy garden wearing white linen. Perfect as an inoffensive office freshie or to apply on flights to have mercy on your co-passengers. Not sure about longevity or public reactions. Ordered a 125ml immediately.

Would be my holy grail green-citrus composition for the spring and summer season. Although citruses are not listed, they are def there. It is fresh, uplifting, herbal yet a touch fizzy (effervescent). An easy reach. Straight down the middle of unisex on my skin. Others get more herbs and vetiver, my skin radiates more crisp juniper and citrusy aspects and so it doesn’t get too masculine leaning. BUT. A big painful but - even for an eau de toilette concentration that is not meant to perform all day, this lasts just for a moment before it evaporates almost entirely. I am not an oversprayer (3 sprays is my general go to), but this one I spray easily 8-10 spritzes covering the skin, hair and clothes. It is still gone within 2-2,5hrs. Not even a skin scent, just gone. I bought a 100ml flacon, in three days there is already 8-10ml gone. I have never gone though an EDT this fast.

Paris-Édimbourg is inspired by the fairy-tale Scottish Highlands, whose immense green expanses dotted with countless lakes with crystal clear waters alternate with enveloping impervious forests. The fragrance emerges with the aromatic notes of juniper and cypress berries and the dark and smoky facets of vetiver, Paris-Édimbourg evokes the wild landscapes in which Gabrielle Chanel loved to regenerate together with the Duke of Westminster during a hunting trip rather than a simple stroll. The fragrance imposes itself with the sour, fresh and intoxicating momentum of the citrus notes of lemon and bergamot, underlined by the markedly aromatic notes of juniper berry and cypress, and is enriched by a harmonious accord with reminiscences of dry citron. The smoky and slightly dark effects of vetiver reveal an enveloping, comfortable and extremely dynamic fragrance.

Paris - Édimbourg is immediately recognizable as Chanel. No question, hands down Chanel. In my experience it compares to No19. Different notes but where No19 is very classic Chanel, Paris - Édimbourg is a modern/contemporary Chanel. Both are green, fresh aromatic, earthy and woody and both have that amazing elegance that makes it a Chanel. Not any other house has ever done elegance better then Chanel and Chanel is still doing it without fail. With seeming simplicity but of the highest talent and standards. This is Chanel. I highly recommend this one. Interesting is that I can’t make up my mind if it is unisex, female or male. I think that on a woman it will be female and on a man it will be male. Fact is that it adapts, it transformes the air around you and it amps up luxurious good vibes. Thank you Olivier Polge for keeping it going. This is truly Chanel.

The first hour I tried it I thought it was too woody and leaning to the masculine side. The following test, well it was still woody but more a rosewood and ohh so goed. A hint of flowers raised up but not really as lavender of vetiver. I suppose the juniper and cedar make my thoughts go to the fall and the autumn trees. This is just so addictive. I could'nt stop smelling the back of my hand. It is perfect fresh for summer of each other seison. I sprayed twice on my underarms, after shower. I could smell it at night till the morning, still as a skinscent. I can't compare it with any other perfume I smelled before as this is not wat I usually look for. I used my 2 samples and it stayed gorgeus till the last spritz. I think it would smell great on a man. It goes to my want list. A full bottle worth no doubt.

I have had my eye on this for some time and when I saw it on sale, I risked a blind buy - after all, with those notes I was unlikely to hate it. And I was right: it is divine. The cypress and juniper berries are delightfully bright and invigorating. As someone said in another review, it is like fresh air, bottled. I also love the very noticeable ginger ale note, which is interesting as there is no ginger in the pyramid. Bit stronger and longer lasting would be better, but what do you want from an eau fraiche, and it probably would not benefit from being stuffed with amberwoods. EDIT: Have just noticed the review below, which mentions a L'Exclusive edition... Seems entirely unisex to me. This has jumped straight into my favourite fragrances list.

This one surprised me. I had a sample of it from Chanel for the longest time and was ignoring it because of all the reviews and YT people saying it is a masculine scent. I sprayed it on my wrist last night as I was going through my perfume drawer and I was so pleasantly surprised to smell the most luminous and herbaceous fragrance e-v-e-r!! It’s crisp and aromatic and comforting all at once! Now, I have never set foot in Scotland but hey, if all the Sam Heughans of Scotland smell like this, count me in!! Ok, joke aside, this to my nose is perfectly fine to wear and yes, I am a woman...I really really like it! It put a smile on my face and now, I cannot get it out of my mind!! Guess I’m going to have to obtain a full bottle soon...

The essence of the green, vernal, forested places of the earth. Warmed with musk and vanilla (if you say so, Chanel), this is not near the alpine snowline. We are in the foothills: cool, sunny, full of new life. This a fragrance that smells like a natural location, a place you've been before. If you have traveled to unpopulated, high regions of the earth, you will recall something familiar here. I don't think one should waste much effort in determining if it is masculine or feminine. It is not a "trendy" fragrance that aims to appeal to mainstream demographics. This is an art scent, one that is meant to transport rather than arouse. Not all will be drawn to it, but those who are will adore it.

I am a woman, and based on the notes, I shouldn’t even like this. So, why do I love this marvelous concoction that is Paris - Édimbourg? It’s a mystery. But oh, that first blast of cypress and juniper is so invigorating! It’s like an unexpected cool breeze amidst this 103-degree heat we’ve been having. Soon, the lavender, lemongrass, and vetiver take over. The lavender and vetiver together give it a bit of a minty vibe, which comes and goes. It’s very refreshing, but at the same time relaxing. The aromatics act like a anti-depressant on me, as does that stingy helping of vanilla in the drydown. Does it lean masculine? Yes, it does. Does it make me love it any less? Absolutely not.

This is a great woody fragrance. It's bright and green from the juniper and cypress. It's interesting that it's light and fresh, but there are no citrus or florals. It smells very aromatic, and it seems there is spice, yet none listed. There is some sparkle or fizz maybe coming from some unlisted aldehydes or some aroma chem, but it's pleasant. The ingredients smell of quality. Maybe I'm smelling a really nice musk that seems spicy in a way. All woody fragrances can feel heavy, but this is somehow made light. It has a soft projection, but longevity is ok. An easy reach, casual fragrance for warmer weather, who want a solid woody fragrance as well. Rating: 8/10 God bless. John 3:16

One of those perfectly unisex scents... My wife has worn this as have I and it does not come off as odd on either of us.... It is a very atmospheric scent which truly gives you the feeling that you are somewhere else in the same way that something like L'Air du Desert Marocain or Fille en Aiguilles does... Upon wearing the scent you are transported and you can smell the old Scottish countryside... Cool Juniper, Cypress, Cedar, and just clean refreshing air... This is a wonderful fragrance indeed... If you enjoy a fragrance that just kind of takes you away then this is right in your wheelhouse and you owe it to yourself to at least give it a try... Remarkable stuff...

This is a delicate, intimate and sophisticated herbal fragrance. It opens with a blast of fresh, juicy citruses that perfectly set up the dry, woody main act. It is beautifully rounded off by some slightly sweet, sparkling musc. The storytelling perfectly matches the scent without being too pretentious, and together they create a very poetic, uplifting wearing experience. The presentation is gorj as well. The 50 ml bottle sits as perfectly in the hand as it looks on my shelf, and Chanel does offer the best atomizers in the game. It doesn't perform beast-mode, but it doesn't want to and it doesn't have to. That's exactly what I love about Paris-Edimbourg.

This is a fabulous scent and it comes to us at the perfect time of year. Summer and back in the office after COVID?This is the scent to rock! It’s the perfect summer scent and the perfect office scent. It’s an eau fraiche without being girly. I love the Juniper. It’s airy and fresh. I’m wearing it with unscented Necessaire Body Lotion Emulsion to give it some staying power. I bet I could wear it with the Eucalyptus Necessaire Body Lotion Emulsion too. I do it with every eau fraiche I wear. PS-that didn’t take long at all. Made it in to my favorite Chanel rep, Charlie! What a true joy he is. Walked away with Edimbourg. I love it.

Very enjoyable, fresh, aromatic, and sweetly resinous in that tingling piney way that dried juniper berries have. I am reminded of many pleasant things: simmering bergamot peels, stepping around cypresses in an old cemetery to read a tombstone, catching a whiff of lavender on the breeze without yet seeing the plant. Even the vanilla, never a favorite note of mine, stays woody enough to sidestep edibility. Eminently wearable and unlikely to offend anyone, Paris-Édimbourg nonetheless avoids smelling generic. A fine choice for all seasons and nearly every occasion.

This brings back wonderful memories of home! A very Northern California fragrance. Immediately brings memories of foggy days picking bay laurel leaves in Marin County. Bay laurel has a cinnamon-like scent, but it’s more delicate and more smooth. Smells also like ferns, evergreens and juniper—all plentiful in the Bay Area. Edimbourg is what I always thought a fougere was supposed to smell like—lush, clean, woody, fresh and green with hints of lavender. I own every fragrance in this Eau line, and each one is phenomenal. I hope they are going to introduce more.

Chanel Paris-Edimbourg (2021) - mountain air - #olivierpolge creates such a mesmerizing perfume. It reminds me of crisp mountain air, grassy plains, and lavender fields. Starts with an initial blast of Piney and slightly camphorated Juniper Berries and citruses that would be similar to a traditional cologne accord. Then, I get Lavender (sweet, yet herbaceous), Cypress and Vetiver. It’s base is strong for a cologne-inspired perfume with Cedar and white musks rounding-off the piney top. One of the best I’ve smelled this 2021.

Unisex but leans masculine. I get absolutely no vanilla in the drydown but that's ok. Not a blind buy, this was a pressie for husband. Bought it on holiday and he smells soooo good. I ADORE this fragrance and I wear it too, when he let's me. 😉 Not just a citrus fragrance, it's so much more complex. Performance is very good but not beastmode. I sniffed every Chanel fragrance and this is my favorite unisex one, by far. 10/10. Men, beware, women love this scent profile. Masculine and clean aromatic. Yeah, it's fantastic.

This is such a fall and winter scent for me. It feels like walking in the woods in the morning on a cool foggy day. And it is the ultimate perfume to wear during a rainy day in any season. On me it smells not like a good fit in the spring and summer but it’s gorgeous during fall and winter. A great unisex scent. The best in the Les Eaux line in my opinion. It’s light but lasts a long time on me. Some comments below discourage women wearing it, but the lavender and woodsy scents, while unisex, smell feminine on me.

Amazing high quality fresh, vibrant, green, and uplifting fragrance. I love this scent. Instant love. The only thing I am not a huge fan of is the performance. I get nice wafts for the first hour n a half maybe 2. Then I get subtle wafts for the next hour or so. By the 4th hour it is a non projecting skin scent. It is an EDT so I’m not surprised by this. I just hope as my bottle ages it gets a little better in terms of longevity. We’ll see. If they made an EDP version I would be all over it.

This is the first time I reached for this in warm Summertime condition. It does pop in warm atmosphere. Juniper and cypress are favorite woody notes. The juniper is stronger. I normally don't like synthetic musks. But here it's quite strong but makes a nice accord with the juniper and cypress. It is fresh and green. It seems to have citrus, but maybe the freshness is all from the juniper. The lavender adds a nice touch as well. Overall it's natural smelling. Good quality light projection.

I tried it in the store yesterday and it blew me away with it's brightness! Sophisticated, aristocratic freshness, plus the DNA of Chanel is definitely there. Smells like a luxurious cologne. Unisex. Excellent for spring, summer... Very bright, crisp, green, I get juniper berries, aquatic notes, yuzu citrus, wood and musk. Very multi faceted! I think I will buy it for spring, so I have something fresh to play around with (I am usually a gourmand lover). An uplifting premium feel scent!

I get heavy high quality cypress, juniper berries and WOOD!!! This smells so fresh & high quality you just can't deny it! If you love green scents then I promise this will definitely place your ass in the freshest, cleanest forest ever! I sprayed this at noon in 80 temps and this thing is still jumping off my skin at 10pm! It feels like I've been camping out in some juniper bushes all day with hint of cypress, tree bark and the fresh breeze blowing through...MUST HAVE!!!

Smelled this and needed to own it on the spot. It's light and refreshing yet woody and complex. There is a hint of brightness in the fog, which may be there to remind you of the sea - however on me it is just freshness. An underlying sweetness makes this firmly unisex. Lovers of No 19 should at least smell this. EDIT ::: Wait for the dry down (maybe an hour in?) - the scent evolves into something much sweeter and, while still juniper forward, amazing.

This is a perfume that can be worn refreshingly even in the hot and humid summer. In Japan, when I try to buy a refreshing perfume, it ends up with citrus or soapy ones, but this is not in those lines, and the aromatic impression of lavender and cypress makes it very useful in this country of Subtropical Climate, where many people dislike perfume-like scents. It is woody and slightly vanilla-like. Reminds me of when I am getting whisked in the sauna.

I've had a weird love/hate relationship with this perfume. I loved it at first, then hated it for being too manly, but after all I ended up loving it so much I don't care if it's not that feminine. So unique, very refreshing, can definitely smell cypress and juniper with a hint of lemon. I can't stop sniffing my wrists, it's just like a refreshing sip of G&T. Perfect scent for spring. Longevity is good too comparing to Venise from the same series.

tested in the chanel boutique store on summer rainy day and damn what a good smell ! bought a full bottle in retail price.... has that ice menthol freshness without being spicy nor toothpaste. modest proyection but solid longevity, ideal for profesional work and for going to bed...god that ice menthol smell is very calming and uplifting depending on the occasion @JlmbonA583BG if you like mint spicy fougerees then this is a safe blind buy

This is beautiful - exactly what I think a man should smell like. It smells aromatic, clean, expensive, modern and well-blended. I'm also shocked at how strong and long-lasting it is, considering it's supposed to be a cologne. As a woman, I love it, but it definitely leans very masculine and I would prefer it on my partner. This scent may not be ground-breaking, but it's all class! Understated yet confident and stands on its own.

The only one that I love from the LES EAUX DE CHANEL line and one of my favourite perfumes in general. I'm a woman and I find it being a very androgynous (in the most perfect way) and "emotional" fragrance. I'm not good at analysing notes but all I know is that this perfume gives me "sweet" comfort and confidence at the same time. Very underrated, a gorgeous "jewel". Can't wait to save some money and go get a bottle ♡

I got it based on my SA reviews. And yes, Paris-Edimbourg is my new heaven, herbal scent with floral and green base. It's not same like Chanel Cristalle, Cristalle Eau Verte or No.19. Paris-Edimbourg is more watery with cool touches, less harsh and not crisp like Cristalle, nor No.19. My recommendations for people who wants to try Les Eaux collection (in order): Edimbourg - Venise - Riviera - Biarritz - Deauville.

It has a hint of cooling oil (like medicated/aromatic balm), and that aromatic accord is very prominent, but I quite like it. It's very herbal, like having that kind of herbal tea you drink before bed with a few mint leaves added in—very soothing (or calming). The only drawback is the ginger in it, which gives it a slight soda/fizzy feeling and a bit of a hotel air freshener/diffuser vibe.

Opening with fresh sharp green cypress and then juniper berries show up balancing the smell with a light fruity note. Lovely, comfy, unisex. Just like walking around a forest in the early morning on a summer day. It would definitely be my new signature scent if the sillage and longevity were not that terrible - turn into skin scent after 30min and last for about 1 hour.
