Enjoli Midnight

This was the first fragrance I ever received, I was 12 and it was a gift set that my mum gave me for my birthday. I got the version with the purple lid. Looking at the notes now it wasn't exactly a perfume for a young girl but I loved it, I only wore it on what I deemed to be special occasions. I have a faint memory of what it smelled like, I remember it being a sweet floral, spicy and musky scent. I would definitely jump at the chance to try this perfume again:)

Just realised the original Enjoli had the purple lid... but I definitely had Enjoli Midnight, I had the gift-set with the body cream :)

This is a lovely, resinous, rich, oriental floral with patch, musk, benzoin and spices.

I don't get most of the notes listed out of this (I got a bottle cheap at a thrift store and wanted to try it.) Aldehyde-y but something else. Very strong. It smells like a 90s salon frequented by old ladies. It smells like Avon and strong hairspray and perms, like the women sitting under the hairdryers are themselves some kind of wicking room diffuser. 100% that's what this smells like to me. It's just so old lady. But so specifically *salon* old lady. I did try just the tiniest dab on myself. It isn't bad but it is so. overwhelmingly. old. lady. It's pretty dang strong and you're gonna be smelling it for hours even with a smallllllll dab. It dries down a bit to a less hairspray and perms smell to a smidge of baby powder, but never wholly gets rid of the hair salon. A man could wear it if he were old, esp. if layered with something. The scent itself isn't what I would call gendered, but it's so strongly associated in my 35-yo brain with old lady fragrance, that's just where it is. If you're under 30 you could probably develop your own associations with it, but over 30 you're just gonna smell old.

If you miss vintage Cinnabar or KL like I do this is the fragrance for you. Spicy and warm like a better Opium/Cinnabar with an interesting cold aloofness like KL. I was lucky to find an unused $5 vintage bottle via an estate sale and I just love this juice.
