Forever Krystle

I went to my local very expensive Middle Eastern owned fragrance shop that sells a lot of vintages. This baby cost me 95 bucks; which I find rather pricey for a discontinued, hard to find, doesn't sell or hasn't sold since 1984 perfume. But worth every dollar. I bought the eau de toilette spray, which looks exactly like the photo here on it's Fragrantica page, made in New York. At the time of production from Charles of the Ritz, though the bottles said 'Carrington Parfums' LTD for some kind of fun nonsense, there was a dab-on pure parfum in a glass bottle as seen in the TV ad featuring Linda Evans and John Forsythe putting on their respective fragrances. In the commercial, Blake Carrington made a perfume for his wife Krystle to wear with a very loving letter attached. Krystle. does the same for Blake and makes him a cologne. Now, the scent itself. Krystle is unfairly compared to Calvin Klein Obsession for Women and thought of as a dupe but it is CK Obsession that smells like Forever Krystle and is the dupe for Forever Krystle. Check the release dates, people. Forever Krystle was launched first in 1984, when Dynasty was on Season 4. Obsession was released in 1985, a year after Forever Krystle was launched. So NO THIS DOESN'T SMELL LIKE OBSESSION! OBSESSION SMELLS LIKE THIS. Starts off with aldehydes. There is a vibe and a nod to classic vintage aldehyde florals.The top has the classic formula of citrus and rose. That's how what I'm smelling at the first few seconds and minute of the perfume's performance. I smell the aldehydes, the orange and the rose. It's a light pink fresh rose. It's immediately powdery and bathy, soapy; in the same effect as good old Lanvin's Arpege. I also believe it smells a little like Sophia Loren's perfume by Coty called Sophia which sold a few years before this perfume's release. This part lasts quite a long so that it almost turns into just a rose perfume but it gets into a vague mix of other floras that are a bit hard to identify. I think I am smelling feathery powdery yellow mimosa and jasmine. There are some small little white florals in it. There may be a violet note. The florals are very sweet, delicate, fresh, powdery, and seductive. Smells like nocturnal flowers in your bath water. This is like the kind of perfume that asks to be kept in a bathroom drawer to put on with your lingerie after your shower and when you want to stay home and make love to your man. This is definitely Krystle, not physically fighting with Alexis in the lily pond, but loving Blake at home in private. This is the woman who not only kept the mansion in Denver together, but kept her marriage together during the show's 9 seasons! The flower power of this perfume lasts for hours. Excellent sillage and longevity. All day or all night depending on when you spray it. The dusting powder or body powder vibe is there. If you're not only a vintage floral fan but a vintage clothing fan, this definitely matches up with a 1980's lingerie of stockings, garter, bustier, or a pretty evening or cocktail dress with a heart shaped bust, a very womanly fashion, but I don't see it as glam; more a short skirt but classy mini dress. The dry down appears to have some green notes, but in small doses. Patchouli leaves. Maybe just a dash of oak moss. There's vanilla in there as well and amber, benzoin. There's a minimal touch of woodsy aroma. Probably cedar wood or could be sandalwood. The biggest dry down note is a warm musk. Off the spray top smells as spicy as a carnation, but there appears to be some spices mixed in there as well. So there's more going on than meets the nose. It's a perfume that can be described as primarily floral, but with a performance that goes from fresh and sweet to spicy to warm and musky and of course powdery. The dry down is heavenly and so warm and cozy. The enchanting aroma seems to want you to wear her in fall and winter because it doe get to the warmth of musk before too long. It is not a stays fresh floral scent. It's an evening perfume for formal wear. Even with a touch of 'drugstore' fragrance going on or a simple bathroom toilette scent, I love it a lot. I have nothing else in my collection like it. I love to wear it on romantic dates. It is a seductive, romantic, wonderful retro floral. Today you can find this from authentic sellers on ebay. Absolutely gorgeous. DYNASTY THEME MUSIC PLAYS.

Forever krystle was so deliciously warm and embracing absolutely beautiful! The mimosa and musk really warms up with the rose very cocooning and sensual this beaut should've never been discontinued its so beautiful! I also bought Gucci eau de parfum 2002 'Brown box as a blind buy and I was mesmerized by the comparison on me both are so so similar its probably my chemistry and mind you I have both perfumes and their are just amazing. Both unfortunately are discontinued but you can still buy on eBay but brace yourselves Billionaire Boyfriend maybe a little resemblance but to me Billionaire boyfriend is fruity and Forever Krystle is not fruity at all. Love you Forever Krystle!

I used to wear this fragrance long ago. Just before Christmas I remembered it, but I couldn't recall the name. Finally I remembered the name. I have scoured many perfume sites trying to find it, but it is no longer available. Does anyone else remember this scent? Do you know of anything else like it? In the mean time I have purchased many other new scents which (most of them) I love! Can I say how much I LOVE this site?!?!?! It is FANTASTIC! So much information. I've been looking for a site with descriptions and reviews. I could read this stuff for days. Thank you for the great website. (I think I'm addicted to fragrances)

Sweet, ambery and very loud- how I love this stuff! It reminds me just a little of Obsession, but not as obviously sexual.Best worn on a cold day, a little behind your knees might be enough. I have a couple of small bottles and since one spray is plenty, this should last a good long while. Someone has formulated a pretty good dupe as well, which is reassuring as this fragrance is hard to find. Long lasting, one spray should give me a little smile throughout the entire day.This one is in my top 10 of all time and I should wear it more often!

I happened across a little mini of this one, and am sampling it now. It is MUCH more-complicated than the notes listed above would suggest- the sweet, honey-drenched, mimosa-dominant floral blend is contrasted nicely with cinnamon and... perhaps angelica? The base definitely has a touch of civet adding its slight, animalic skank to the musk-amber blend, and I think I am also sensing opopanax. Reminds me a bit of Obsession on the drydown. Such a beautiful composition! Shame it was discontinued- it really is so elegant and lovely.

My mom had a bottle and gave it to me because she was about to throw it out. OMG! I really love this perfume and can't stop myself from wearing it. It gives me the coziness vibes. Does anyone know of something that smells similar?

very soapy in the top then candied violet and iris to me then HEAVY musk, maybe castoreum, not civet; remains sweet, reminds of Guerlain, a little like Liu but not as fizzy or sharp; not a chypre; base is CIVET; love this one

I wore this in college! What a flashback. If I remember correctly (and this was MANY, MANY years ago, it had a warm, ambery, musky floral scent. I loved it.

-And, yes I have the bottle, but it is empty. -But, the smell is there :D

I bought b bottle of this when it came out. I was such a fan of "Dynasty", I rarely missed watching it when it came on. I remembered Linda Evans from her "Big Valley" days with Lee Majors & the great Barbara Stanwyck. I sometimes still watch episodes of that one on the Inspirational Channel. Linda was Krystle. And I love Charles of Ritz fragrances so I thought this one would be good for me, too. I sure was so disappointed with this fragrance. It was a floral that became somewhat sweet on me & I didn't want that. I liked it ok, but I never did buy another one. It smelled so much better on my then sister-in-law.

This was my mother's favorite fragrance of all time. Ever. Without question. She was so unhappy when we could not find it anymore. Now she is wearing White Diamonds, which she gets a lot of compliments on. I wish that Krystle was available again, but that's pretty unlikely. If it were available, I would buy it again for sure.

I remember my grandma used to wear this back in the day. I used to love to see it sitting on her dresser and I’d sneak into her bedroom to surreptitiously sniff the bottle over and over. Such a warm memory.

As far as I can remember this was the first really popular celebrity perfume(I think Zsa Zsa Gabor's "Zig Zag" in 1949 was the first ever) and it set the standard for celebrity perfumes: kind of bland, no particularly distinguishable notes except a large amount of vanilla and loud. I love loud perfumes(it hurts my feelings when people pick on Tabu!)but this is too loud even for me. That said it holds up quite well for an 80's fume. It seems to have suffered the fate that most celebrity perfumes suffer: when the celebrity becomes passe, so does the perfume. It smells better than many that have outlasted it.

My mother wore this for a time. Holy cow, is the sillage ever heavy with this stuff. It is a very powdery scent with a strong undercurrent of bergamot. Imagine your grandma sitting down to a nice cup of Earl Grey. That is what this smells like.

Well I have Joan Collins (Alexis from Dynasty) Spectacular and I Am Woman fragrances so I thought I'd go on a vintage fragrance hunt and find Krystle, Alexis' rival perfume. This fragrance is very hard to find but thanks to a good perfumista vintage collector's help I was able to track one down to a warehouse in New Jersey. Forever Krystle opens with aldehydes they feel like those kind of moderate aldehydes that you spritz on from a newer Chanel fragrance which for the 80's was a modern touch. The aldehydes are freshened with bergamot citrus notes. It's refreshing and for some reason makes me think of Krystel coming out of her shower and she's not alone, now I'm seeing Patrick Duffy in there with her the same Patrick Duffy who was in the famous shower scene in Dallas. For whatever reason this is giving me a shower fresh after shower vibe. It's sexy it's old fashioned and perfumy. This is something for a very feminine-down-to-her bones woman to put on just after a bath or shower in her boudoir. The mimosa is sweet and orange scented and it harmonizes with the rose which smells like a pink rose. Sweet florals. The flowers are there through the end but the dry down is a warm sort of animalic accord of musk or possibly even a subdued civet. This is a floral musky fragrance to wear for romantic dates in the evening. I love the TV commercial for this fragrance and it does smell like something for a married woman to wear. I don't presume that only married women or even mature older women should wear this. This is a vintage frag and smells great but I see it as perfect for floral fragrance lovers. This is bigger on mimosa than it is rose too so you gotta love mimosa. And true to the nature of Krystle this smells sophisticated and elegant but sweet and nice, as far from stronger scents that evoke a bolder seductress like Elizabeth Taylor's Passion. This is very nice. I love it. Thank you Fragrantica now I can wear this out on a date and smell like the sexiest sweetest 1980's woman ever.

**From 2010** "My darling Krystle, I've had this fragrance created especially for you. I think it's as beautiful as you are. Every time you wear it, remember: I love you forever." Imagine my excitement when I found a new bottle of this at a local pharmacy that also had a full display of Max Factor makeup from the seventies. I inquired about it and the pharmacist said that it had been sitting there since 1986...a year before I was born. He thought I was crazy when I bought it, but how could I not? I'm a huge Dynasty fan, and already have the nightmarish Linda Evans Rejuvenique facial toning system displayed proudly on my bookshelf. It's about what I expected, meaning 80s drugstore, meaning still better than most of what is released for higher prices today. It's similar to Vanderbilt in that it's a loud, powdery vanilla rose, but what I like is the extreme muskiness of it. The composition feels to be about 50% musk, and a slightly foetid musk that they might not use anymore- it's certainly not detergent-like or clean-smelling at all. Yes, it's gauche and cheap, but this is in keeping with the woman it's named after. I love that before Liz Taylor kicked off the celebrity perfume trend, this fragrance based on a soap opera character was released and garnered a faithful fan base. The commercial for it is a masterpiece of cheesecloth and syrupy sentiment. Now to seek out its male counterpart, Carrington--I bet it's lovely. Joan Collins also served as the face of Revlon's Scoundrel Musk and released her own fragrance, Spectacular, which is civety, powdery purple dupe of Elizabeth Taylor's Passion. Incidentally, Krystle has much better taste on the show; it is mentioned several times that she wears Bal a Versailles, and at one point Alexis lures Blake to Rome, "bathed in Bal a Versailles," as she says, to seduce him away from Krystle. Celebrate the love that lives forever.

There was a time in the 80s when I thought this and Lauder’s Beautiful were the most amazing scents that money could buy. Fast forward to a couple of months ago when I found myself riding a wave of nostalgia and purchasing a vintage bottle of Forever Krystle on eBay. For those of you who don’t know, this perfume was named after the character Krystle Carrington, played by the lovely Linda Evans in the supersoap that was Dynasty. Rather than be transported back to the 80s I found myself surprised at just how linear this is. It has almost no depth at all. It just seems like amber, a bit of musk and some vanilla. It doesn’t really evolve at all and just becomes a weaker version of itself as the day wears on. But it does last a long time and I could smell it while I was outing my clothes in the washing machine. What did strike me is the quality of the packaging and the bottle. The glass is really thick and it sprays nicely. I’m somewhat dismayed that even the high end perfumes now use plastic stoppers instead of glass, and are lighter in weight than they used to be. The presentation is very high for what was then a fragrance available at K-Mart. I also have to say that I’ve seen some recent interviews with Linda Evans and I’m equally dismayed that she has ventured into cosmetic surgery with not entirely successful results. It actually upset me a bit. She was so gorgeous in the 80’s - a true icon of fashion and beauty at the time. Maybe you just had to be there. I recently discovered an interview she did with Rachael Ray. They had a perfume challenge for Linda to see if she could pick Forever Krytstle from a range of other celebrity scents. I just came across a vintage splash bottle of this in EdT form. I must admit that it seems to have suffered oxidation, and I fear the bergamot note has lost some of its freshness. After a few seconds of the 'alcohol' note, a heart of plasticky vanilla rose atop a synthetic resin comes through. The musk makes an appearance after about 15 minutes. I do not see vanilla in the notes, but I am sure it is there. The scent is fairly simple, and linear in nature. Not a complex or symphonic perf. I can see where it would be well-loved by those who wore it, "Forever Krystle" has good and identifiable sillage and longevity. This is most certainly a drugstore frag by nature (many of which I love!), even if it was sold in department stores.

I have Krystle, Angel, Obsession, Billionaire Boyfriend, & Gucci EDP, aka "Brown". IMO, I get the resemblence to BB, but that's it. Now I think I am going to blind buy Jill Sander's Sun. I hope the reviewer that suggested that was a dupe, knows the scents well. The others are left field for me, no resemblence. Krystle should have never been discontinued, it's just perfect! Update~ I now have Jil Sander Sun. It's ok, but to my nose, nothing like beloved Krystle.
