Japanese Matcha

I’m so excited about this fragrance! I love matcha dearly but there is something that happens when it’s mixed with milk that I deeply despise both in flavour and in scent. Unfortunately for me matcha has being popular with milk as a drink and interpreted as very gourmand and milk leaning fragrance wise. Every single matcha fragrance I’ve smelled up until now has fallen into that poor habit so now you can understand my excitement when I tried this one and found out that (FINALLY) I’ve found a non gourmand matcha that maintains the earthiness but still has a warmth to it. Hallelujah! Chasense Japanese Matcha opens up with a beautiful strong non-seaweedy matcha that is green, earthy but still not scratchy. As the scent starts to develop, that beautiful creamy greeness/earthiness starts to brighten up with the jasmine and lily. They are not very strong but they bring an airiness and a very faint soapiness to the fragrance that allows it to not be cloying or too dense. There are also marine notes in the middle base that is not listed here but are well mentioned on Chasense channels and descriptions. This marine notes adds an aquatic note and brings out some very mild sweetness. But it’s nothing leaning towards seaweed or fishy smell. It just add an aquatic touch that resembles something I’ve smelled in Arashiyama by d’Annam (although these 2 fragrances are very different). Through the whole experience of the fragrance you can sense that creaminess and warmth of the base notes that allows the fragrance to be well sorted and not falling into that soapiness, scratchiness or a somewhat seeweedy and overly earthy and bitter matcha. With that combinations of base notes, it leaves out all the not-so-pleasing characteristics of matcha without being gourmand or milky. No wonder this perfume got prizes in Asia! It’s a breath of fresh air and the matcha fragrance that I was so long looking for.
