Slow World

If you don’t smell vanilla it’s because you’ve probably abused your nose with so many sweet scents you can’t think straight. The vanilla is the heart of this scent there is not a particle that goes into your nose that isn’t soaked in vanilla. And I hate vanilla centric perfumes but this is how it’s done. It’s great..... I was worried at first bc the vanilla comes off strong but the bitterness catches up and that warm lovely dragon blood I’ve been obsessed with lately swoops in like a handsome gentleman. It all dances so well together. edit: ehehehe well..... i take that back. once that bitter green tea note wears off this gets so violently oppressive. i take back my love. and i used a lucky scent dabber and applied it like three times so only three lines of this perfume on my skin and its pummeling me with saffron and vanilla 10 hours later. ok im being mean. its not a bad smell it just bores me but it still smells very natural and well made but obnoxious to me due to my personal taste

This is the kind of cosy scent I usually can't tolerate- I got it as part of the sample set and saw incense and vanilla on the notes and assumed it would be a migraine inducer I can only smell second-hand on my wife (RIP Ma Nishitane). Sandy Wong has perfectly nailed a perfume for the Australian culture and climate. It's lighter and better for the heat we have here. I think this would shine more in the cool season, but I'm wearing it on a 30C day with no issues too. I wonder if it would even work in the northern hemisphere- which rips imho, we get so many fragrances foisted on us that are incompatible to our weather. I love as well that there is a brand specifically celebrating Australian Chinese culture and heritage. This is something we've needed so badly. A lot of the Australian niche fragrances feel clumsy or overbearing to me. I'm terribly excited to try out the other scents in the set now.

Slow World is a caramelized tea and wood scent upon a strong bed of vanilla, and the definition of rich and creamy. My favorite part is the opening, with a deluge of vanilla and malt that already has a warm and steady depth from the resin. I've never smelled dragon's blood resin before, and in Slow World, it has might, dustiness, and character all in spades. It all combines into this vanilla cookies and fireplace scent, getting a bit drier and smokier as it dries down, and consequently a bit more masculine. The lasting power and projection is also excellent, and I've smelled it on my clothes and skin almost 20 hours after applying. I've really never smelled anything like it, but I wish I could find more in its family because I am addicted to that rich, sweet, balsamic vanilla opening like nobody's business.

This opens with a honeyed tea scent, with a ambery earthy sweetness. I typically don’t love resinous scents but this one isn’t too in your face or extreme amber-like, there’s a freshness here and a creamy earthiness throughout the scent. The heart of this is a malty saffron heavy aroma with earthy muskiness. It’s floral but with a smoky breadiness to it from the malt, even slightly boozy like an ale/beer. The dry down is a creamy vanilla bean, sandalwood and a smoky incense. It’s sweet but the sandalwood feels toasted here. This one borders on gourmand but I can’t say it goes all the way, it’s definitely sweet but it’s very earthy and smoky with creamy resins. I would also say this is not a tea forward scent, it’s there but it’s more of a smoky take on vanilla with elements of a tea aroma in the opening.

I had to do a double take when I smelled this. It is so, so beautiful. If you don't like the opening, pleeeeaasse give the dry down a chance! It's this amazing, encapsulating scent of spicy tea with just a hint of vanilla, and then morphs into this beautiful and smoky dragon's blood incense and malt which gives it a bit of a cookie-like sweetness like a few other reviewers mentioned. That's a great way to describe it. What a beautiful and cocooning scent. You'll want to hug yourself. Also the longevity and sillage is incredible - I've been walking around work with this on and smell it pretty much constantly and it's kinda rubbed off onto my desk and seat and when I sit down, I'm just engulfed by this amazing smell. You must add this to your test list if you love smoky, resinous smells. 100/10!!!!

Im surprised how people rated this scent so low because i love slow world. Till now, this is the best tea-fragrance i have ever tried. As an asian, i pretty familiar with tea, we have various products that smells like tea such as: cleaning spray, hand sanitizer, room sprayer, medicine, ..... For that reason, most tea-citrus scents are usually smell so "cheap" in my opinion and this one is the opposite. THE QUALITY IS IMPECCABLE. About the scent: - Sweet vanilla, caramel (not overly sweet) - Abit of smoky, bitter like puer tea which helps the scent become so special and realistic - Cozy, warmth, unique and easy to use(if you are an asian that familiar with tea, incense), leans abit masculine.

This fragrance takes you on a journey. It starts off a bit boozy with sweet vanilla and smokey wood notes. It then shakes off the booziness and cleans right up as the tea comes through. It continues to lighten and become uplifting with the vanilla sweetness remaining constant and the sandalwood gaining prominence. The only problem with this fragrance is, as it lightens, you end up yearning for more. I share Muzzbait's sentiments, there is a slight cookie scent that comes through and stimulates your hunger. This is an addictive fragrance that will be used well as date bait in close quarters.

I have owned/smelled around 180 fragrances at this point in my life. This could very well be one of my top 10 scents of all time. Such a gorgeous scent. Starts off with a realistic tea/vanilla note that slowly fades into a resinous/smokey/sweet profile. Reminiscent of walking into an old incense store with wooden floorboards. Beautifully crafted and well-blended. I can see why the price tag is what it is, just wish I had much much more than 1oz of this incredible juice.

Feels like propping your feet up in front of the cabin's toast fire after a long day of skiing. A cup of alcohol laden tea slides down your throat warming you from the inside out. Take a deep breath in and savor the rooms woody glow. This fragrance comes on rich and thick with a heavy wood and whiskey base. Moves into a strong dark tea before settling into a very creamy sweetness that literally lasts for 12 hours. I am in love with Chasing Scents!

A little goes a looooong way and this sticks like crazy to skin and clothes. It's dark and mysterious, smoky and sweet. The vanilla doesn't tip into a straightforward sweet gourmand at any point; the malt and tea keep it earthy. I love this but I have to really be in the mood for it - it's hard to get off you once it's on and I can still smell it 12+ hours after spraying.

OMG this one blew me away. Love at first sniff -- no other way to put it. I loved it the moment it went on. I had a mask on and I smelt it through my mask, and it got better over the journey. The malt in this is amazing, absolutely LOVE it. Towards the middle of its lifespan, it develops a cookie-like feel, which makes me love it even more. Yes. No question, YES.

A chaniwa in the winter, beautiful views of snow capped landscapes, you are warm in a cottage, alone, sipping tea and Japanese whisky, while a fire chips away at the silence, the world is still. This scent teleports you. On a snowy, cold day- it cannot be matched. Bonus teleportation hack: add One Day Taipei or your favorite rice scent. 🩷

I love this so much. It smells like damp, earthy tea with rich vanilla and a light boozy incense base. I almost get a slight buttery note as well. Imagine you pick up an herbal tea latte with extra vanilla syrup and a buttery baked good and then visit an antique store that has incense lit. 9/10

This is so, so beautiful to me. I’ve had it for about 2 months now. Just impulsively spritzed in on myself just now. So beautiful. It is the personification of the song Locket by Crumb. This house has to be one of my favorites if not my favorite. They just get it.

This is walking into a warmly lit herbal medicine store on a dark and rainy day after closing. It cloaks you and almost feels protective, then the vanilla turns boozy making it feel v sxc. Intimate projection but idc it’s my lil secret.

I love this perfume so much! Smells like true incense and vanilla, although can't smell the tea much but I got this for the incense so not mad at all. Cozy scent will be wearing it alot in the autumn and winter months.

A beautiful deep, earthy, woody vanilla. Very grownup, but still with a bit of sweetness to it. Also has a touch of a green note from the tea. Overall very wonderful, and really showcases how complex a vanilla can be.

Now THIS is great. It opens musty and field-like and dries down to a fantstatic warm outdoor scent. Really an achievement. The mild malt is just perfect.

This review is after just my first try and I plan to come back after more experience with Slow World. I love pu'er tea! It is musty and earthy. To me it tastes like an old dusty barn with horses and leather saddles. There is a variety called Camels Breath that I love. Its not for everyone. When I saw it was listed as a fragrance note on here I was in "shut up and take my money" mode but even though the bottle is reasonably priced IMHO paying almost the same cost of the perfume in shipping was a mental hurdle I couldn't get over so I put away my cc and just dreamt of what it must smell like until I saw it had become available on luckyscent and I bought it faster than you can say "FREE SHIPPING" and it arrived sooner than they said it would too. The first spray was lovely, malty (another note I love) vanilla, incense, boozy and the drydown slides into the saffron and wood, somewhat synthetic and eternal and very similar to JHAG Another Oud, which I have and love... but where is my dirt tea?? I couldn't find it on my first try and will try many more times. I do like this first experience but its not the scent I have been chasing, I don't think... HOWEVER. I appreciate having read the glowing review from an Australian perspective. I am in the southeast US and its still cold here but we get hot, balmy summers and I am excited to see what my nose will find in this fragrance in the coming seasons.

Malt whiskey, wood and a very balsamic vanilla on a base of creamy amber. If I could use only one word to describe this, it would be balsamic. I don’t really smell the tea at all, although smokiness starts to come forward in the dry down bringing a little bit of that smoked tea leaves feeling. This is cozy, perfect for a fall walk amongst the falling leaves or sitting in front of a roaring fire at the ski lodge. And yes it is reminiscent of By the Fireplace. To my taste it’s a little more wearable than that one, less smoky, less beast mode. It also reminds me of Amber Star by Xerjoff. It lasts a really long time on skin, about 12 hours.

Opens with a lovely vanilla and incense, sweet and creamy behind that strong balsamic tang. As it dries down more of the smokeyness is drawn to the forefront, and it keeps an alcoholic bite with just a bit of sweetness in the background. As others have said the tea isn't really noticeable, so if that's your main draw (like mine, oops) you might be a little disappointed in that aspect. But overall Slow World is deliciously complex and a great experience. Like sitting in a smokey lounge with a strong drink and a warm fire.

Deep vanilla! Incense, resinous vanilla with malt and a very faint hint of earthy tea, not overly sweet or bitter, just perfect. As others have described its a fragrance that invokes a sense of warm and comfort, perfect for cold or rainy days. Longevity is great, lasted until I washed it off and it projects well throughtout. If you like vanilla you will enjoy this one, personally I like it alot but I do prefer private teahouse over this for the winter. 7/10

Thick, resinous and sweet. A rich, warm vanilla with a background of tea and smoky woods. There's a slight bitterness from what I'm assuming is the tea. It's quite smoky on the dry down due to the incense, with sort of a gingery sweetness. This would be beautiful in the winter! Unfortunately incense comes off more masculine on my skin so I don't think this one is right for me but I can see this being really suitable on others.

I really loved the initial spray and drydown- but on me it went a bit vinegar-y sharp on me after about three hours of wear, on a cold day. It was a bit dramatic..the kind of smell that hits you in the throat. I'll have to give it another shot because I loved its cozy smokiness. I'll try again after letting it settle for a while. Lasts all day tho!

Another beautiful organic smelling herbal tea fragrance from this line. Vanillic, woody, smoky and deep, with a hint of sweetness and bitter tea leaf tannins. Evokes rainy autumn imagery. Soaked autumn leaves under grey skies in the suburbs, cold gusty winds, and hot steam curling and spiraling from a ceramic mug full of tea.

I am having a really hard time picking out tea. Instead, I get a comforting, warm, boozy vanilla with a distinct butter note. There is rich resin and a pleasing subtle smoky incense in the background. Still, it’s reminding me of caramel corn. Smells great, but I don’t think *I* want to smell like boozy, upscale caramel corn.

it's giving by the fireplace, but slightly more medicinal, spicy, warm, and interesting. after writing this sentence though, and having the perfume dry down a little, it quickly transformed into a more gourmand scent, becoming sweeter and toastier! such a complex perfume that i can find myself enjoying for the fall!

if you like incense scents it's very hard to imagine disliking this. Cosy, resiny, sweet and a little bit smoky but not acrid or harsh at all. Doesn't feel like the world's most complex composition but it's nice that every single one of the listed notes is detectable here and they all play so nicely together.

Edible, sweet, comforting. Makes me think of digestive biscuits and browned butter. Sweet, thick vanilla gourmand with complexity. Wear it when life is hard and I need a simple comfort from scent, but still some layers of interest.

Resinous, bitter and medicinal-pungent like some sort of concoction when you have cold. This is definitely not for everyone. It's more of a meditative scent rather than your usual perfume. Majority of people around you will not enjoying the scent... My husband said I smell like dill, yes dill herb. As a tea fragrance junkie this perfume house is a miss for me.

A complex resinous malted vanilla and incense fragrance. Imagine a malted vanilla milkshake but warm and inviting, slightly gourmand. Unfortunately this is too sickly sweet for me which is tiring on the nose. Reminds me of the maple and incense sweetness in the blend of Oud Zarian. Has very little similarities with By the Fireplace.

Warm, malty, almondy, chocolatey scent. I don't detect any tea. I do agree with similarities with "By the fireplace" but I think that was better. I think it's more similar to "Noir Exquis" from L'Artisan Parfumeur. It's pleasant to smell from a far, but closeby it has high potential of being cloying and annoying.

OMG, The tea smell is not clear, I just feel the smell of vanilla wood and a little smoke, I find the price for the 30ml bottle too expensive and the scent is not too special

This is a malt bomb. The opening is smoky, then it dries down to the thickest malt I’ve ever smelled. Where is the tea?

I get more roasted Oolong than Pu'er, and some creamy sweetness...The dry-down is savory, bitter, & woody.

Out of the four samples I purchased from Chasing Scents, Slow World was my least favorite. This is basically a gourmand, which are sadly just not my "cup of tea"... ba dum tsss. Slow World on my skin is just all sweet-balsamic vanilla, all around, all the time. To be fair to Chasing Scents (and One Day, whose pu'erh tea inspired scent I also wasn't in love with), I don't know what pu'erh tea smells like. I've never tried it. I cannot comment on how faithful Slow World is to pu'erh tea; it does not have the funky, fermented vibe I might have anticipated in my head, and I'm not totally sure what I expected, but it wasn't a vanilla-bomb. To state the obvious, I'm not really a fan of vanilla, but I rarely rule it out when purchasing samples because I do understand that a hint of vanilla or amber accord can bring a warm and grounding touch to a fragrance. In this case, it's almost all I can smell. The incense and sandalwood in here is present and definitely rescues this fragrance from being a full-blown gourmand, but not enough to make me love it as much as I love the rest of Chasing Scent's tea line. Oh well, you can't win 'em all!

Very strong, a bit one-dimensional, it smells exactly the same hours after first spraying on. I have gotten a bit tired of the heaviness, which would have been ok if the top-note settled into something more complex after some time. Many hours later, and I'm tempted to wash it off. Strong silage and longevity, so if you like the opening and dont mind the lack of complexity, that's a plus.

I don't get any of the sweet nuances that I was looking for in this fragrance. All I get is an overpowering incense bomb with no sweetness. I can't even detect the amber or the vanilla.. It's sad because I was looking for a new fall fragrance.But apparently i'm going to have to continue to look.

this just does not behave on my skin unfortunately. the dragon's blood and sandalwood overwhelm the tea and any sweetness for me, and it's very loud. my mom used to put cedarwood oil on the dog to keep ticks away, and somehow this smells just like that in both scent and intensity

Everything about this is 100% on point. The branding and image elements are perfect. The boxing is perfect. The whole aesthetic of this brand is on point, too. The actual product is amazing, too. Everything just ties in perfectly to create a brand that you can actually lose yourself in, something that you can completely and utterly immerse yourself into and just lost all concepts of self... The people behind this brand make their own tea-based extracts and use these in their work, and as I've blathered on about already, all these elements just tie in together to create a real, breathing, fleshed-out artistic concept that I buy into with all my heart and soul. Slow World was my favourite of the range (which at this current stage is only 3). It takes a gourmand theme, adds a bit of booze and has the tea element right right alongside. The scent works perfectly and isn't too much or not enough anything. It's an amazing scent. I bought it and I love it! To the people behind the brand, if indeed you ever read this review, I just want you to know that I noticed all the details and all the finishing touches to your product and they just work perfectly. Bravo to you.

When I saw the puerh tea I was sold, I had to try it. This is a mysterious one and I can see how it resembles a man's cologne. However, to me, this is different. It is feminine to me, and slightly sweet. I smell the woodiness, resembling a sweet wood cigar box- just a touch of smokiness (the tea? incense?). The dragon blood note somehow comes through and works. I've only seen dragon blood as a scent/flavor/anything as a snow cone syrup, this comes through almost like a root beer note and it works really well, adding a playful lighthearted quality to a rich and mature scent profile such as tea and woodiness. The vanilla is faint, but has a similar quality. This is possibly the best wood fragrance I have ever smelled. It's bold and beautiful, tied together by an effervescent soda-like note that makes the whole thing more wearable.

This is what a vampire smells like. Blood and incense. It shares a similar dna to Liquides Imaginaries - but this is like... beast mode. I'm no stranger to strong fragrances but holy smokes. I dabbed this - not spritzed or sprayed - but dabbed a little of this from a sample stick onto a piece of paper. Hours later, I can smell it as I neared the top of my stairs. I can now scent this in 3 of the 4 rooms on the top floor of my house. After a DAB. That's beast mode on a whole other level. Not for me, but if you do go with this fragrance, go light for goodness sake. I gotta go open some windows....

Deep and earthy with a bit of sweetness! Really lovely and resinous, I quite like it! Reminds me of smelling the inside of a dark wooden cabinet, it invokes a sense of warmth and comfort that’s perfect for cold and rainy days. The vanilla is very earthy in this and the longevity is great, it lasted even after washing my hands and it projects well. The sweetness comes out to play a few hours later and develops beautifully while still keeping that resinous earthiness from the dragon’s blood. It becomes a little bit creamy yet smoky which I found really interesting, it’s very beautiful.

On the very first spray there is something sharp, almost medicinal, it reminds me of tiger balm. Maybe this is the dragons blood? However this is gone in an instant and then it smells very gourmand - I get a strong burnt sugar scent which is reminiscent of the hardened caramelized sugar on a creme brulee. Underneath that, if you're paying attention, there's something a little bitter, at first I thought it was anise seed but I'm going to assume it's the pu'er tea. It rounds out the sweetness and creates something that is also quite earthy and grounding. Delicious and interesting.
