Santalum

Oh, Santalum. Santalum is just... everything. That slightly iris-y, perfumey edge that I often find off-putting, is simply swoonable here. It's a kiss, a soft-focus pat of powdered skin, an intimate moment of femininity. Powdery, yes, but not at all antique—more like the delicate veil of something familiar and romantic. And the sandalwood, that's the crème de la crème. Silky—that doesn’t even begin to cover it—like liquid velvet poured over warm, sunlit, enrapturing wood. It has this gentle, savory undertone that sneaks in every now and then too—not overwhelming, and just the ideal touch to add a cozy gourmand depth, like a steamy turmeric milk, full in body and cream. Mostly, oh mostly, it’s in the woods. A soft, comforting warmth that wraps round you, never sharp, always tender. Always tender, always plush, maybe a little yummy, and always luxurious without the being any cold. Just... everything.

I have only just received this after sampling it months ago in a store. I also bought Ode to Dullness by JHAG. Comparing them side by side is an interesting experience, them both being Sandalwood fragrances. Santalum is much more effervescent, floral and sweet, despite none of the notes hinting at that. To me Santalum is a very cosy, clean, feminine take on Sandalwood. It is much more complex than I would have thought from other reviews. It has that woody undertone that makes it feel comfortable yet sophisticated but it also smells like laundry fresh from the dryer, crisp clean linen and expensive yet understated bodylotion. It is inoffensive but evokes pictures of put together women in smart casual attire. I can see myself wearing this a lot. The opening is surprisingly refreshing with it settling into a creamy, quiet, feminine sandalwood that is a perfect daytime, office scent.

It is more sophisticated & more refined than cedrus & Santal 33... airier spice. I agree with person commented as i tested it & now keep on thinking if i get full bottle.

Soft, slightly sweet and predominantly lactonic sandalwood.

There isn't much to say, tbh. It's definitely sandalwood, with it's sweet, creamy qualities. It's a bit powdery, too, and that's all. The good thing is that, it's not one of those sickening sandalwood scents, everything is in moderation here. It's not at all a complex scent, but that's not always a bad thing. Very weak on my skin so, for the price they're asking, hum, not sure it's worth it! If you like sandalwood, this is something you need to check out, just don't expect fireworks, it's a very simple scent, but it's also nicely done.

This is a very surprising scent. On my skin, it doesn’t have any woody notes. Then I realised it’s called SANTALUM, not SandalWOOD. So I already had wrong expectations of this. And while I cannot stand Sandalwood, I really love Santalum. I’m getting mainly very milky and spicy notes. Warm, spiced milk, that’s what it smells like. Big like.

This deserves more hype than Cedrus from the same line in my opinion. The creamiest and purest sandalwood scent I've come across so far.

This smells like cold, outdoor air. At night.

I blind bought this because I love sandalwood. I read a lot of reviews on this and felt it was a "safe" blind buy for me. It smells lovely, for me it fell in the 'strong like' category. So I felt it was a successful blind buy. The problem with this scent for me is that it doesn't last even an hour on my skin. I tried spraying it over vaseline, moisturized skin and over spraying and it still didn't last. Fortunately I was able to return it.

Woody and lactonic, an okay neutral scent. More of an intimate type of scent to me though. It lasts longer than I expected.

It has a rusty metallic smell that is hard to describe. Sandalwood, but not in a pleasant or smooth way. It does not smell like a perfume. Strangely, it smells like a less niche version of Indian Sandalwood by Dunhill, even though that one costs about a quarter of the price. 4/10

This is my initial first impressions, having sprayed and testing it twice after my evening shower. I’m disappointed. This is a blind buy because I am a lover of milky sandalwood scents. I am always on a quest to find a new one to try. I was so excited at the description that this scent is supposed to emulate the wood of a fan. Being Asian, I am very familiar with that scent. This fragrance does not capture that at all in my opinion. This doesn’t even smell like sandalwood to me. I did 6-8 sprays and I could barely smell it. What I did smell was a slightly spicy, citrus scent with maybe a very mild hint of soft woodiness. It was super cold with it was delivered here. It may be suffering from bottle shot. Will let it sit and I’ll revisit in a week or two. As of now, it’s an ok. It’s not a bad scent but it definitely misses on the marketing description. Hoping it’ll be better after it settles. I got the largest bottle, so fingers crossed it gets better. Rating as of now is 2.5/5. So sad! I wanted to love this.

*Initial review after store testing* SOLO-SANDALWOOD.Tried once in the airport but I can already say this is very promising, true “Indian - Mysore” sandalwood oil profile, without much change. It really does smell like pure indian sandalwood. Though fascinating it is, it can also let many people down because of incorrect associations they may have based on other fragrances mentioning sandalwood in their names but actually smells nothing like it. Example: Le Labo - Santal 33. Santalum is muted, just like the real oil. It will not shout loud, but it may create an inviting sillage that others get curious than the wearer. I’ll definitely try this again and for the moment putting it to the list of my top sandalwood frags.

Santalum is a very cozy, creamy "gateway sandalwood" like the review said below. It's simple, clean, entirely inoffensive but it's not drawing me in. This perfume reminds me of Piano Santal which I also could not 100% get on with (Santalum is better IMO and more subtle). I guess milky sandalwood is not my preferred scent profile but this is quite a lovely fragrance nonetheless.

It may just be me but, this smells very similar to the sandalwood vanilla body scrub by onyx. You can find it at Walmart. The body scrub smells really good and lingers on the skin. It’s around $7. Am I gonna sell my bottle of Santalum? YUP:)

This is pretty! ... But not a love for me. It's a very polite sandalwood with a touch of soapiness. Very feminine to my nose. Almost a gateway sandalwood... It's smooth, but I definitely wouldn't say "milky" - more clean than anything.

doesn't smell like pickle juice. does smell like rubbing your body with a rusty coin while you stand near some sweetly-rotting logs

Suddenly reminds me of le labo the matcha 26 haha

All i can smell is wood. Very light .
