Amber Malaki

Having tried Oud and Black Incense Malaki, I was expecting Amber Malaki to be very refined and well-blended (it is) but also quite dense, masculine and projecting (it isn't). First opening is a delight. The amber is so rich and minerally, resinous and almost rubbery but is kept in check by a vanilla and incense heart that is surprisingly tender and pretty. I wasn't expecting Amber Malaki to be as delicate as this. It is almost dainty in a really surprising way. The first two I tried in this line were super masculine and Amber Malaki opens (briefly!) just as masculine if not even more, but whereas they are real night out fragrances that tell your story to others around you, Amber Malaki is shy and is a fantastic one to wear when you want a personal scent that doesnt get in other people's faces. And then it changes... Sillage is vanillic with a bit of amber but up close it does sit heavier and more masculine, but this doesnt project much past a foot or two so is a very safe office wear. It dries down a bit sweeter, leaning into the slightly smoky amber in that very restrained way. The accord combo is absolutely killer here. I have been back to respray this twice in the last six hours, not because it is not strong enough and it needs topping up but because I find myself hopelessly addicted to how it smells. I wasn't expecting this at all. I find it hard to imagine amber and a bit of vanilla and incense could smell this good. What am I missing? A check of the notes reveals the truth. The delicateness is deliberate. The daintiness is designed. The secret is there is some orange blossom in this that is as beautiful as it is unexpected. It is there, along with a slightly creamy, fibrous papyrus to backstop the rubberiness of the amber. The orange blossom adds this subtle floral frisson that runs through this as the smoke drifts away. It is so, so good. Amber Malaki is very different to Oud Malaki and Black Incense Malaki. It is much more unisex than I first thought and as it dries down I think would work really nicely for a smartly-dressed lady in a way the other two do not. It goes from super masculine to perfectly unisex in around 25-35 minutes and it starts to shimmer on the skin as it warms up. The orange blossom is undoubtedly the start of the show here. It is almost undetectable in the first hour or so but as it dries down you feel it work in unison with the amber and the gorgeous fresh vanilla. I can imagine a woman sniffing this on a tester strip and dismissing it outright but this would be a mistake. I bought several bottles of Oud Malaki for my male friends and family after trying that and want to keep Black Incense Malaki just for me. But in one of the most unexpected turns I've come across in my fragrance journey thus far, I am going to be buying a few bottles of this for my female friends and family because they need to try it. Amber Malaki Chopard Grabbed a retail bottle few days back for a good price. Did 2 sprays before turning in for the night the same day and a good wear by overspray 2 days later. It seems to perform better at night and in cooler conditions. Projection and Silage is very good for the first hour or two before it slowly does down to a skin scent. I'm at the 5th hour and while it is no longer projecting it is still a vanillaish amberish skin scent. The amber accord here isn't very similar to some of the amber scents that many says they remind them of under the listing because there's a few I also own there. However my nose tells me it has similarities to Mancera Red Tobacco and is significantly lighter and Weaker than Red Tobac, despite the notes not being similar other than the base notes. I feel that it's the amber with the incense, labdanum and papyrus making it smell similar and giving the smokiness too. It's not similar to Amber Nuit Dior because Amber Nuit is much more aromatically rosy spicy. Overall it's nice smelling decent performing smoky incensey amber frag that isn't worth a retail or niche pricing but worth it if you can get it off a discounter or reseller at a designer pricing.

Wow, good stuff. Yes it is heavy and strong as others have pointed out, and in warm weather it can be a lot. I accidentally wore it to the gym and I am sure the people around me did not appreciate it. It is a dryyyyyyy amber. No sweetness here at all. The first notes are a spicy labdanum and dry vanilla, and something phenolic-- close to what we would call band-aid oud. There's no oud in this but it does have a similarity to Black Incense Malaki which has Hindi oud. After a while the spicy and phenolic notes die back a little bit and the actual amber comes out. There's an herbal quality too, similar to Midnight Oud or Interlude Man-- I think this is the note they're calling papyrus. The dry down is better than the opening and worth the wait. This along with the rest of the Malaki line from Chopard have earned a place among my most favorite fragrances, and for the price, they're a stunning collection. I do not think any of them are safe, not appropriate for office, and probably shouldn't be a blind buy-- but I do think it's safe to say that if you like any one of them, you'll like the rest of the line.

I finally got the 3 Malaki's from Chopard, and this without doubt a very nice fragrance and worth of the Malaki term. I do not compare it with any of the other colognes I have, and the "reminds me of" here I can not really vote since I haven't smell any of those, although I had Altamir, just a sample but never really care about trying it, since is a very low budget cologne, and the Ambre Eternel from Guerlain, well that's another story talking about price, but I don't have it either. (update 021221, I do have it too now and they are not alike, totally different, I would lean towards Chopard, I think is easier to wear.) But getting back to the smell of this Amber Malaki, I think is totally out of the ordinary, it will make you stand out where ever you are, and draws quite some compliments.

An easy, addictive twist on a classic formula! You get deep, dense facets of amber, with an almost boozy vanilla, but it's braced by dry papyrus, steering it away from a gourmand. There's a gorgeous, uplifting orange blossom that gives an air of candied orange rind to the fragrance. Some incense-smoke and hints of spice as well, making for a lightly middle eastern vibe. Very easy to understand and appreciate Fragrance I get 6-8 Hours of light projection and then another 5 ish hours of skin scent from this.

It smells amazing, only second to Amouage Interlude Men of my favorite men perfumes. I am disappointed by it's reach though 3 sprays is not enough and people have to get really close to be able to feel it. I sometimes do like 6 sprays. It doesn't last very long either, only around 3-4 hours and afterwards it's not noticeable unless you get really close to the skin. Also it stains clothes, for example around the neck if you spray it there. Smell 9/10 Longevity 4/10

Rich, lush golden gem I wear throughout the year in climate controlled environments. It envelops with a juicy orangey-ambery bouquet, light incense vanillic touch and a very smooth dry-woody (papery) accent. Enjoyable from start to finish. Love from the first sniff. I also have the oud and the black incense malalaki which are very good as well.

Strange, here people say this is too weak and bad performance but I have more than 6 hours of very good performance, I even get a headache from this jam and want to remove it. My bottle is from 2022. Very beautiful fragrance and I love it! I don't wear it a lot, but when I do it's super good!

Hmmmm, this is nice, easy to like. On me I smell wintergreen, smoke, woods. I would rather smell this on my man than on me, though I think I’ll wear this from time to time, mixed with a sweet or flowery scent. Love the bottle- very well-made, sturdy, classy

Love the scent, gooey amber, like honey sticking to your skin, but not too sweet, a bit boozy and smokey. The only downside is I feel like this doesn't project at all from my skin, it kinda sticks to it from the moment of application. The bottle is lovely.

Incredible quality for the price you can find it at discounters. Smells almost like a warm apple pie in the opening, and not too dissimilar to PDM Herod. A great amber fragrance and a no brainer for the price you can pick it up for

Definitely, keeping up with the Rose & Oud Malaki, it’s a very well done Amber release from Chopard. Quite rich, deep and resinous juice with decent lasting & projection. Hands down, its quality juice.

this smells absolutely delicious . smells thick and syrupy sweet of vanilla amber and some boozyness . very gourmandish edible quality about it . feel like hoarding more backup bottles of it . 10/10

this is so delicious scent and it last long and project well, i usually dont like amber based fragrances but this is different,recommended for fall and winter.

Got to have it.... very enigmatic collection... Oud Malaki & Rose Malaki... Hopefully this would be at par with the other two magics...

I own five of the Malaki scents and absolutely love them all! Beautifully crafted, the Amber- and the oud Malaki are my favorites...

Don’t judge from initial spray the dry-down is what makes this so good it’s addicting

My first dabble in the Malaki line by Chopard The opening marks it as a challenging scent for sure. Strong blast of incense and the papyrus note, backed by a lot of sweetness from the orange blossom. Strong, almost boozy resinous notes are also there to make themselves known right from the get go. This is a combination that makes the opening quite challenging for less experienced noses, and it is an acquired taste. If you like strong, dark, smokey openings, this will be for you. In the drydown it retracts intimately close to the skin. the sweetness is more present than the resins and the smokiness, as the incense is all but gone here, but this is the only notable change in the scent profile - i would consider this fragrance fairly linear. In my opinion the composition could have used a much heavier dose of the warm amberglow. As it is now, i would call it a "dirty" amber. If you happen to have a bottle of ZARA Sand Desert at Sunset around - try layering it below Amber Malaki - the results might surprise you. I got this at outrageously discounted price - around 25 euro for 80ml, and i would say - for that price this cannot be beat by anything you could get your hands on for that money. Retail is like five times the price - i would not spend that much on it, personally.

Opens with a beautiful blend of amber, slightly boozy vanilla and leathery labdanum. In the mid the amber is resinous, the vanilla is sweet and the labdanum blends with the incense to give a slightly smoky/leathery accord. The dry down is sweet vanilla, powerful resinous amber and non-animalic leather. Grand Soir is a good comparison, the notes are almost identical - GS has resinous Siam Benzoin, whereas Malaki has smoky incense. GS has smoky and sweet tonka, whereas Malaki has sweet orange blossom. The rest of the notes are almost identical. The opening of GS is more powerful and slightly more feminine, the dry down of GS is much better, but the comparisons are relatively close; even though the price difference is not anywhere near as close. A great success for Chopard, and a real pleasure to wear.

I like Amber Malaki better than Oud Malaki. This reminds me of PDM's Herod although with Incense and vanilla instead of Tobacco and vanilla. Herod is by far the better fragrance but this is a solid choice as well. Good projection and decent longevity although I find I need to spray more compared to say Montales or Amouages or even Herod to get mileage out of it. I would not call this an amber frag per se as the amber note is quite dialed down but if you like sweet frags with a middle eastern vibe and can find it at a decent price, totally worth checking out. 7/10

Amber Malaki starts quite sweet and ambery, almost syrupy like a drink of vimto. As it dries down, the sweetness dials down & more beautiful incense comes out but only hours (>3) after application. It reminds me of Van Cleef & Arpel's Ambre Imperial, both are sweet ambers that rely on amber/vanilla combo to creat the scent. Although, I personally prefer Ambre Imperial. Like Rose Malaki, I had higher exceptions from this. Nonetheless, it remains a decent scent. Like but pass for me personally.

Rich, elegant, warm, and little bit dirty. Such a good release from Malaki series. Opened with slightly boozy vanilla, followed by warm amber with touch of orange blossom. I love the papyrus scent that give a unique scent profile, while incense give it the dirtiness. As an aroma this is so good, but sadly it’s just moderate in longevity, so it’s only on 3rd place of my Malaki series. The bottle is in uniform shape, but this one come in bronze shades with a beautiful darker amber juice.

Beautiful and sophisticated amber fragrance. It's a powdery amber with a slight sweetness thanks to the vanilla. The light incense giving it a smokey vibe on top of the powdery floral. This isn't in your face, its a subtle and sophisticated fragrance that is very unisex. I love it! This a winter fragrance but can easily work in other seasons on cooler nights. It's light which makes it somewhat versatile. The bottle, like the others in the line, is simply stunning!

Sweet honied amber on a creamy vanilla with some smokiness to keep it interesting. Reminds me of a sweeter, more mainstream take on TF's Amber Absolute. Cold weather only, this has a tendency to overwhelm in heat/humidity. Heavy sillage in the first two hours before winding down close to skin. Lasts all day.

This is a very sweet, vanilla heavy amber with a bit of smoke underneath. On my skin this pulls very sweet, almost sickly sweet, and projects like a beast. Way too much for me, especially in our humid, tropical weather. I can see this working in colder climates, however, where it won't turn so cloying.

Bought it today, this smells like a combination of Bois d'Armenie and Tonka Imperial by Guerlain. But with more added warmth, very warm and comfortable.The first spray is all about prunes soaked in xo calvados combined with marzipan. But then the amber and vanilla kicks in. Just love it!

Smells a bit oud when you put it on. Not a rich creamy amber but more petroleum. Typical badass Malaki style. I have them all except Musk. This is mainly amber and labdanum. It went through a phase in the drydown where it had a sort of pepto bismal smell but that passed.

This is a pretty nice, sweet, ambery vanilla fragrance with a subtle dark, slightly smoky background. It's nice, but it faces a similar issue that grand soir faces, which is that it's overly simple imo. 7.4/10 imo

unlike most reviews for chopard's amber malaki here, mine's a mix of experiences. over 2 weeks, my feelings shifted from love to hate for this fragrance before i finally let it go. i really wanted to like it, being a fan of ambery scents, but it missed the mark for me. amber malaki has a unique profile with dry amber and orange blossom, which should work, but two notes, incense and labdanum, weigh it down for me. they make it too heavy, even headache-inducing. while it nails the middle eastern, oriental vibe, it's too overpowering. performance-wise, it's a mixed bag. longevity is impressive, lingering for days as a skin scent, but projection and sillage are mediocre, especially for an edp. it only fairly projects for the first hour or two before drying down to a skin scent, and the scent bubble, and thereby sillage it has, is very minimal, that people really need to sniff hard when you go past them to notice you're wearing something. it's kind of amusing that chopard's main market with the malaki lineup is the mid east, yet this thing performs poorly in the best weather the middle east could possibly witness. look, the scent is nice. it's warm, boozy, ambery, oriental, and distinctly middle eastern. it's quite unique compared to other ambery fragrances (nothing like tl's altamir imo), but maybe adding a lighter note could've balanced out the heaviness of incense and labdanum. dry amber is already weighty, so adding more heavy notes makes it challenging to wear. god forbid someone wears it in the summer, as it would be overwhelmingly cloying. the bottle itself is quite nice, simple but luxurious, but the atomizer falls short. overall, a heavy, sweet, ambery, oriental fragrance with disappointing performance. if it performed better, i wouldn't mind its weight, but given its performance, i must complain. i wanted to enjoy and consistently wear it during my two-week ownership of the full bottle, but with my complaints, the hate outweighed the love, leading me to get rid of it.

#1234 in my "Tour de Fragrance" This is not the standard amber vanilla as the orange blossom is the dominant note here and gives it a lighter tone than most amber vanilla scents. The dry papyrus note keeps it from coming across sweet. It's a fresher take on this category, and the incense note is so subtle that I don't consider it an oriental at all. Not the same quality as the Chopard "Black Incense Malaki" I tested out yesterday. Seems just above EDT, at the bottom of the EDP potency. Completely inoffensive, so safe in any setting. I see I'm not the only one reminded of Ted Lapidus "Altamir", which among the cheapie EDTs in this category is one of the best out there, and if they had an EDP version I'd still be wearing it, though Altamir is sweeter, more fruity. I paid $45 for this and it's worth it. Not my favorite among the Chopard Malakis, but it's okay.

I really wanted to love this one, but the incense is just too overpowering. If it had less incense and a touch more vanilla, it could’ve been a winner. The heavy incense dominates the scent in the opening to the mid, making it less pleasant for my nose. That being said, I can appreciate the quality amber, though it doesn’t last long or project enough. For $45, it’s definitely not a safe blind buy, and I struggle to find an occasion to wear it. There are far better amber fragrances out there that outperform this one. Update: i really started to enjoy it on colder weather, its something that have very pleasnt creamy amber, i wanted to sell it, but naah i changed my mind, i can layer it with something sweet and rock it, it get very pleasant by time Scent: 8/10 Longevity: 6/10 Projection: 6/10 Overall: 7/10

I had too high expectations and sadly those weren't satisfied. The scent is too artificial and metallic for me. I only get those petrol-like notes. I will try it again during the week to see if it was the shaking during the shipping. Perhaps it needs a rest but otherwise I wouldn't recommend. The price-value is excellent for a blind try but I'd not consider it a safe blind buy either. Try it first. I have the Oud Malaki from the same house and it's much much better in performance and in the overall quality of fragrance. I don't get those metallic and sharp accents on OM. And the AM smells a lot like OM but as a softened and foggy version...

Quite nice, projects a fair bit for the first hour and then sits quite close. The dry down to me is oddly reminiscent of the dry down of jazz club. I feel like I detect a soft tobacco with the vanilla perhaps it's the labdanum and/or papyrus. I feel this would be a bit redundant in my collection so I won't be upgrading from my sample but it's quite nice.

Influencers are stupid people. Now you know. This is a lame-ass attempt at an amber. If you’re new to perfume, it may be awesome. If you already own any other niche amber, you will not like this.

It's nice and I do like it, but for me it's a bit too middle of the road and I would not choose it over other options to wear on a given day so I sold it

Rich amber opening that comes across a bit medicinal. The vanilla comes through in the drydown adding a slight sweetness and rounding out thr profile.

It's bargain price Herod. A little sharper and more synthetic, but the same profile. Good value for what you get.

This is some heavy juice. So thick that can choke you and those around you in warmer weather. You may manage to pull it of in early spring. I think it needs some citrus to cut through the heavy amber cloud -- the orange blossom is not enough for this dose of amber. Even the incense in this is heavy and labdanum makes it even heavier. I would be interested in another version with some grape fruit instead of orange blossom and saffron instead of labdanum. Overall, it is an experience that is chokingly interesting. I definitely like that I have it in my collection but where or in what occasion I can pull it off; probably when pigs fly. I enjoy spraying it on the back of hand and sniff it from time to time. It smells much much better in the dry down. Longevity is good but it is heavy and sticky so doesn't leave you far in terms of silage. For ladies: don't trust its unisex title. This is very masculine.

Aucun ambre la dedans , et une vanille trop fumée et désagreable C'est le pire flanker de la gamme Malaki que j'ai testé... Il a des air de vanilla Diorama bas de gamme en plus fumé , globalement le rendu est tres tres moyen et fait parfum bas de gamme générique. Je deconseille fortement Oud Malaki reste le Roi 👑

It’s a fragrance made by someone not particularly gifted for making fragrances. It smells like amber, vanilla and burned cigarette. I’ve a problem with the latest note. Who ever wanted to smell like burn cigarettes ? Yes you got it, no one.

I agree with RASQTR; this fragrance disappointed me. I sprayed it more than four times, but the sillage was too weak, and the longevity was only about 10 minutes. I’m glad that I only got a decant.

I really had high hopes for this one. Opens up really boozy, dries down to a dry, dusty amber with papyrus in the background. I dont like it. Dusty amber aspect makes me puke.

I purchased Oud Malaki awhile back as was highly impressed with the scent, so I recently did a blind buy of Amber Malaki. I am very glad I did. AM is an elegant, Warm, rich, sweet and smoky amber scent. On the initial spray the amber is so thick I felt I could cut it with a knife. One hour in AM settles a bit to amber vanilla deliciousness. Four hours in I get a boozy vanilla and amber scent. Eight hours in AM becomes a very beautiful amber dominant fragrance, but more of a skin scent. I find AM to be a softer / sweeter compliment to Oud Malaki, but just as well made as OM. AM works in either casual or a sports coat Bottom line: If you like Amber scents, you should try a sample of this one.

Dusty spices and dried fruit on the top give way to sweet amber for dry-down. It has poor projection but beastly longevity on the skin itself. This has been done before, a slightly middle eastern amber musk, nothing more. No woman will ever compliment you on this type of smell. Think moderate body odor + brown sugar. Nice bottle.

This is NOT sweet at all. Dry, yet rich smokey amber with strong labdanum, papyrus and woody notes. I detect no vanilla here. Harsh but not in a bad way. Perfect for autumn. Interesting scent, definitely masculine. Average performance. Scent: 7/10 Sillage: 6/10 Longevity: 6/10

Sophisticated and extremely luxurious. Super longevity, very unisex. This is one of the best amber based scents available. Very oriental vibe but no oud or animalic accords are detected which makes it so smooth and calming. Recommended and great deal given the price.
