Review - CHOPARD 1927 VINTAGE EDITION Perfumer - Bruno Jovanovic (Nose behind Monsieur by Fredrick Malle,Coach for Men,A&F Fierce,Times Square by Masque Milano amongst others) Release Year - 2016 Main Notes - Asphalt + Amber + Violet Leaves This special edition Chopard is one of the most artsy fragrances out there. Created by one of the most big name perfumers out there. I don't like to use the word "niche quality" alot because it doesn't determine the quality of the scent but if niche means anything akin to artistry and uniqueness this is perhaps a Niche scent by all means. TOP - This opens up very fresh and green. But just before the freshness starts to takes off and explode like any typical freshie you instantly feel leather added into the composition toning down the composition of the entire scent. There's a certain green element to the opening thanks to the green notes and violet leaves provide a wet/mossy feel. You feel there has rained. You just don't know where. MID - The magic happens! Asphalt. It was raining on the asphalt road which has been warm all day and now it has started to cool. It's difficult to explain this note. Or this part of the scent. It's just what it is. Asphalt note is Earthy,dark but is backed by the freshness of Violet Leaves and smoothness of Leather. Drydown - The asphalt note remains true to the composition. The scent although gets more smoother and richer. A master perfumer at work. Amber which is sweet and oomphy accompanied by creamy Lavender! The rain has now stopped. The wind is blowing bringing the flowers and some raindrops from the side of the road towards you. So manly and enigmatic. Performance - 5-6 Hours longevity Good projection for 1-2 hours. But again, unique enough to make itself smelled. Beauty of this scent. Emotions - Racing. Power. Thunder. Very natural but dark and still uplifting somehow The calm before the storm! 10/10 for the scent and it's artistry. These are the kind of scents that make this game worth it.

Blind bought this a few months ago - purely based on 2 reasons. First and foremost being the perfumer behind this: Bruno Jovanovic. Secondly - the notes were very intriguing. I had never heard of asphalt being combined with amber and leather. So - my thoughts? I LOVE it. It is a multi-layered scent which is bound to be noticed. I personally don't care about garnering compliments BUT it has excellent sillage hence got a few compliments at work. After spraying it for the first time, the first 10-15 minutes were like 'hmmm....was this a wrong buy?' THEN the magic happens - The scent completely turns out to a magical combination of freshness and asphalt (ness). It's hard to explain but it is strangely addictive. I kept sniffing my arms all day.. Another fragrance crazy friend compared it to 'Midnight in Paris' so I tried that as well BUT this is only slightly similar to the opening - MIP dries down to a strange (weird) smell that I hated. THIS on the other hand is a much more refined version and the dry down is just superbly pleasing. Notes are listed as below: Top notes: lavender, green notes and juniper Middle notes: violet leaf and asphalt Base notes: leather and amber Bruno is master perfumer and this is one amazing piece of work. I'm glad I bought the Vintage edition and the bottle itself - worth displaying it somewhere. It is that beautiful.

I've had this juice for awhile, I didn't write a review on it..so here we go. I try to put aside the nose behind the fragrance so that I don't cloud my opinion. This was a completely blind purchase and I wasn't disappointed. At first spray it's sweet and heavy on me. After a good 15min later the amber settles with violet and a hint of wet asphalt comes through. Lavender and Juniper really kicks in giving it that wintery vib. For some reason, I don't pick up the leather scent...not sure why? Longevity and Sillage is excellent...perfect for evening and during the colder months. You can get away with just a couple of spirits of the juice on you...it goes a long way. I can't help it but this juice has a similar vib to Bogart pour homme...anyone out there try it and you'll understand what I mean. Similar vib but this juice is far more refined and not so drugstore fragrance. I give it a good 8.5/10....it might take a few tries before it grows on it.

OK I tried to compare this with some that have lavender, but actually the lavender is not the prominent note on this Chopard, but I would say is unique, the only one that gets close to it is the 1000 miglia from the same house, I don't have the Extreme version, but this 1927 Vintage is has more character and presence, and is more out of the ordinary. I tried Lanvin Arpege, Hugo boss bottle night, even ungaro III, and versace man, but no, the lavender is diffrent in all of them, and the only one closer is the 1000 Miglia I mentioned before, since they both share the asphalt note, but is more dominant on the 1927 and the leather as well, so I don't think it has another closer match and I really like it. As the description says is a collector's item, and I am glad I got it.

I think Chopard has a great collection of men fragrances and I almost have them all, this is my last acquisition and I have no regrets, is a very nice fragrance, long lasting and very versatile, nice in the office or the bar. I got nice compliments today that I am wearing for the second time. It's sort of nice to know not many people around smell like me today ;-), since I am the second reviewer and the only one wearing within the Fragrantica community as per the site info. Well I hope to read more reviews about this nice fragrance soon.

This is a suede bomb. It’s performance blows Royal Santal away. One of the most overlooked fragrance in the community. 9/10.

This is a good scent. Give it a chance and you will find that it is different and unique in a good way.

A limited edition flanker, from the 1000 Miglia series, that pays homage to the inaugural 1927 Mille Miglia, the Italian cannonball run, with sumptuous flair and daredevil confidence. The racing heart continues to beat with the signature throttle of asphalt and violet, revving the series' engine with thematic fumes that remain fetching. Vintage 1927 opens with a slightly sharp, sweet guise of a lavender being reined in by an eager juniper onto the hearty violet tarmac, where doors unlock to smooth leather upholstery whiffing on an airy amber base built around labdanum and vanilla, bringing forth a sensual, suede finish to the adage. Shades of Le Male, Pour Un Homme de Caron, Fahrenheit and Black hover in the bitumen. Vintage 1927 is a tribute to an illustrious past that is modern and simply riveting from start to finish. A fine, warm leatherette!

First off, the review below mine by Sachin blows everything out of the water. He describes the scent to a T. It is easily one of the most unique smelling fragrances i have ever used, especially due to the asphalt note. The scent of the wet road and the drydown is floral (juniper) but completely masculine. Longevity is around 6 hours, not sure about the projection though, but just for the scent i would buy it!

This perfume smells very similar to my favorite Victorinox Swiss Army Rock (not currently in Fragrantica database maybe because it was discontinued?) way back in 2015! But the asphalt top note is sometimes overbearing, I think Victorinox SAR is better. But this scent is ok. Overall rating: 7.2/10

Heya Katgirl, I wouldn't call it a like for like replacement as this is different because of the violet leaf note and definitely the asphalt. But it is a great fragrance on its own and performance is quite good, 6 to 7 hours easily.

yep, it's 65% nuit d'issey, 35% CK shock. and the bottle is really heavy. 6/10

Overly sweet lavender with green undertones, and then appears that ubiquitous accord, that Chopard sells as "asphalt and leather". Some others houses will sell that accord as suede (Icon Elite by Dunhill), rubber (Black by Bvlgari), vinyl (Cyber Garden by Costume National) or latex (Tom of Finland by ELdO). Some others will speak a bit more truth, and just describe that as a combination of spicy labdanum with woody vanilla undertones, like for example in Centaure Cuir Casaque by Pierre Cardin, with whom 1927 shares shocking similarities (I'm doing a side-by-side comparison, and it's a clone at this point, especially in the top). A good blend, quite versatile and pleasant, even if not there’s nothing really new. The price is very democratic and performance good, and that might fit the bill for who doesn't already own one of the frags listed in this review. Fall days, 25+

I don't know if this has 4.33 rating as a meme. but this smells horrible. It smells like some kind of a chemical with a sweet tone to mask the fact that it's a chemical.

Bvlgari Black is one of the earliest "niche-quality" designer fragrances to gain popularity online. Chopard's 1927 Vintage Edition is, in my opinion, the designer-quality version. Don't get me wrong--it's still a wonderful fragrance, and it's not a clone. However, the two have the same aura of rubber-y leather, and the strongest differences come in the floral and herbal accoutrements, as well as the projection.. The Chopard is a little sharper in the supporting notes, with a more of-the-genre approach to a men's fragrance in the lavender, green notes, and juniper. In this regard, the Bvlgari is the more unisex of the two--point number one for "niche-quality"--with its rose, green tea, jasmine, and bergamot deuteragonists. The other distinguishing character is the projection. The Chopard is the perfect office scent for cooler days. It stays with the wearer, and shouldn't be too offensive. The Bvlgari, while no means "beast mode," is certainty the more ambient in its projection. I say buy them both. Niche-quality or designer-quality--they're both at the discounters.

I bought this fragrance 3 months ago, I've been waiting for a day like today, 39 degrees, light drizzle of rain, heading to work working the overnight shift at my doorman job, this fragrance is leaving me in a melancholy mood, feeling relaxed and enjoying the nuances of this magnificent creation. Bruno Jovanovic hit it out of the park with this one.

Hi guys! Can you compare this to some other more well known fumes? I dont like traditional lavender/violet leaf based scents but the asphalt note makes me curious....love the scent of a hot street being sprinkled by summer rain....:-) Cheers Matz Sweden

I agree with Vaporized, it's similar to Bvlgari Black in many ways, but not an exact replacement. It's more green/floral but it shares the nice powder accord. In my opinion, this is the best of the Chopard asphalt series.
