Vanille de Madagascar

A dry, calming, vanilla pod-type of vanilla. Not very sweet, with a tea-like quality that many people have mentioned below. There's also a woody-ish quality you might find in the likes of Diptyque's Tam Dao and Une Nuit Nomade's Bohemian Soul, though it's not exactly woody, just with the dry/creamy texture of sandalwood but make it vanilla. I wouldn't call it a bad scent just because it's not the cupcake vanilla extract type scent that you expected when you blind bought the bottle (eye-roll). Vanille de Madagascar is evocative of the vanilla pods growing in Madagascar blowing in the salty sea air off the coast of the island. A zen, light and airy scent, lasts around 4-5 hours with moderate projection in the first 2 hours, then hangs around more closely for the remaining time. A very unique vanilla in my collection, I love it for days I'm not in the mood for sweet.

It smells vanilla beans, not vanilin which is added to cakes. I really love this perfume, while I hate vanilla note in perfumes in general. This one is not gourmand vanilla, it is organic vanilla beans. Very sexy. EDIT Oct 2020: I eventually purchased it and wearing it now. It is a bit more interesting if you spend more time with that. It is definitely super fresh deep vanilla, but it also has perfect natural black tea aspect.

This is so smooth, so clean and airy. Very unusual take on vanilla. It's a fresh breath of green forest air, tea and raw unsweetened vanilla. So comforting and easy to wear! Honestly the more I wear it, the more I enjoy it and more facets of it reveal themselves. Very fine work, Mr Morillas! Year later Update: to this day this is my favorite fresh-green-tea-like type vanilla, period! I only wish the lasting power was better.

I purchased this perfume because it was made by the same perfumer who made Boucheron’s Vanille De Zanzibar, which is discontinued. Although there are mild similarities, these fragrances are very different. Given the fragrance's name, this fragrance is more citrus-forward than vanilla-forward, which was a little disappointing to me. The notes mention a Bergamont. I smell more of a pear opening. This vanilla could be worn in the summer or spring because it’s lighter. The longevity is good, but the sillage is very mild. It’s very well blended. I can’t say that it smells like anything else I have or have smelled before. This would be a pleasing fragrance for someone who wants vanilla but isn't into gourmands. It’s also very well blended. i’m just slightly disappointed because I was hoping it would be a replacement for another fragrance that i love that's discontinued. I will still give it a 4/5.

Woody, Citrusy Vanilla. In the opening of this fragrance you get woodchips or pencil shavings that have been scented with vanilla. At this stage, I would say the fragrance leans quite masculine however by the 15 - 30 min mark the wood recedes and the citrus is more evident. I can pick up a subtle tea note but not always. This is a unique fragrance because it does not come across as gourmand despite being vanilla centric and it is very fresh, almost airy take on vanilla. It is not the greatest performer, lasting a moderate 4-5 hours during which it sits very close to the skin. This definitely a like for me but not a must have.

I have opened the bottle here some months ago. At first the smell of tea was stronger but now it has subsided. It is a type of vanilla, very sophisticated and leaves nothing synthetic! It's like a hazelnut butter cookie, very soft and tender! It does not have a great projection, I expected something better, however, it remains an authentic smell and on the skin it has a very long duration about 8-10 hours, since it has previously matured as a perfume, as I said at the beginning. It's an elegant, sensitive vanilla that I would definitely buy again! Really great fragrance!!! It calms the mind and the soul !!!

A weaker version of Guerlain Bosca Vanilla Forte, no need to have both, but the Bosca Vanilla has the longevity and projection and a better price. I don’t get much tea here, kinda overhyped and overpriced for what it is. The bottle is really nice and heavy but the juice is a disappointment.

I can barely detect any vanilla in this. It's a strange one, but unique. Mostly green-dry-earty-woody and oh so slightly vanillic. It's hard to describe and associate with a classic perfume type. Weirdly, the first minutes to me it smells like raw green peanuts or peanut butter made from green peanuts, unsweetened. It evokes the same green dryness as Un Jardin a Cythere does, but with peanuts instead of pistachios, and green tea leaves instead of olive leaves. I can detect the tea leaves, but definitely not black tea, more like matcha or genmaicha tea. Minimal vanilla in the drydown too, it stays green-woody-earthy and slightly creamy. It feels more like an abstract depiction of the whole vanilla plant with the surrounding forest. Bottom line, I like its oddness, but it tips a bit on the masculine side and I can't see myself reaching too often for it.

Unusual sort of green vanilla. Ok, it's weird. I like this green vanilla aspect of this perfume (not very sweet) but there's also something I don't like at all. It smells a bit like an old book with yellow pages and I get whiffs of an ashtray. Not a safe blind buy. Edit: after a couple of hours it got better.

There is no vanilla in the bottle I have. Horribly, the tea accord smells stale - stale urine? - whatever it is, it activates my gag reflex. Will be hard to make a big dent in this bottle.

It really needs to macerate to give its nobility. I didnt’t like it just after buying. 2 years later, the notes are finer, and it is more a subtle « tea » than a simple salty vanilla.

It's very tea and not at all vanilla on my skin. I so wanted to like it but I guess it just doesn't really agree with me... I really do not like the tea scent, it smells like a two centuries old book and not in a good way. It's all musty tea to me. I'm going to let it sit for a few days and try it again later --sometimes that works.

Madagascar is a fragrance for those that prefer to take a walk on the weird side of vanilla. I can't figure out if this has true elegant intent like the brand suggests but it's definitely edgier than expected. This is a blend best suited for daytime spring weather when you'd prefer something a little more daring and enigmatic. Vanille de Madagascar takes the sugary edges of caramel and pairs it with wet grass juxtaposed with what appears to be soggy cedar. The mixture feels "alive" and weathered. This fragrance also contains a nominal amount of tea which adds to the herbal touch. The drydown smells sweet but the overall fragrance smells ruggedly outdoorsy. On initial application, all of the notes are vying for attention at once with the bergamot top note emerging to the forefront. The bergamot dissipates rather quickly as it makes way for the other elements with the focus on a generous spike of vanilla. The spices are harmonious and not dominant or overpowering. It takes some time on the skin before the woody note of vetiver to become noticeable nevertheless, it's existence adds to the dominant woody accord. This is a fragrance I absolutely can not recommend because...it's honestly weird! In my Arnold Schwarzenegger voice, "Get the Chopard!".........and see for yourself.

Another Chopard Masterpiece! This is a beautiful, fresh & cozy scent! There are fragrances out there that try to emphasize vanilla but it ends up smelling cheap, extremely synthetic, or sugary/candy like. That's fine for a candle but not for perfumes. The vanilla in this is THE perfect vanilla! It has lighter projection than I would like but it's enough to notice if you were to embrace someone. On my skin, it's very light but can work for a quick dab here and there to refresh. My hunch is that this may project better in the fall or winter when it's colder. Nevertheless, this is a safe, lovely light fragrance that can work for the office or around those who may be sensitive to strong scents.

Soothing, like a vanilla sponge cake sans sugar. I get powdery vanilla (pod), dry black tea and orange blossom. It’s really soft, and I’m wondering if it might not be at it’s best in winter. This is also mellow, like a person who makes you feel entirely comfortable in their presence, who is calm and doesn’t speak much, but when they do it’s always going to be something wise and unpretentious. So far, silage to me is weak to moderate, and longevity the same. However, I do have a feeling this might be a scent that really grows on you with time.

Light, not marked, but yes, hints of tea and bergamot and powdery vanilla, after a strong onset of alcohol. Then I get more of a sea water vanilla, but it dries fast to a slightly foody caramel vanilla, which I like less. It ends in a faintly gummy vanilla wood, with the hint of a sharp alcoholwood edge. By no means bad, and I like the seawater vanilla aspects a lot, but I don't want to wait through the foody caramel, which is cloying on me.

This is a light enough vanilla to wear anytime and anywhere. It reminds me a bit of Lolita Lempicka Green Lover in its lightness and being more so a 'green vanilla'. There's something doll-like throughout which is nostalgic for me. I definitely pick up the tea note. A safe bet if you're just starting to tiptoe around the idea of gourmands.

this is a green, woody, bitter vanilla. Definitely a unique take amongst the pool of sweeter vanillas that's available today. I've never smelt such a non sweet vanilla before it quite strange but in a nice way - think of a creamy dark-green and bitter medicinal vanilla latte without any sugar. Dense, dark and deep without much sweetness.

I really like this! Billowing fluffy fresh orange flowers along with powdery/airy/woody vanilla with citrus in the open and underlying candy sweetness in the dry down. So addicting, only lasts 4-5 hours on my skin, so not the best longevity. Great sillage for the first 2 hours but it wears close after that.

This is one of those seemingly "fresh" fragrances that only smell good in lower temperature. Above 30C and you only get a harsh mess, possibly because everything is evaporating rapidly due to the heat. It's less sweet and thinner than Vanilla Vibes with a markedly more masculine backbone.

This is a tea scent with a drop of synthetic caramel. THIS IS NOT A VANILLA FRAGRANCE. Regardless of what ever notes you see, this isn’t a vanilla dominant scent. I’d pay $40 for this max since it also doesn’t have sillage or last more that 4 hours. I returned the one I purchased

I want to like this, but it has this salty play dough quality I just cannot tolerate. There’s an unsweetened green vanilla caramel in here, but it is overwhelmed by a salty exterior that smells like body odor. I’ve given this several months but my assessment is the same.

On my skin, the tea remains centre stage for quite a while. Would suit tea scent lover looking for a twist in that genre. The vanilla caramel mid note does not shine. The tea top note still lingers into the mid note. I can see a guy pulling this off.

Not sure if I’m tripping but its how I remember casmir smelt like. Either that or some other 90s perfume I used to wear. While you can tell there are quality ingredients, this blue collection is pleasant, safe but not overly exciting
