Oud Galoré

Oud Galore is one of the most recent releases from The World of Chris Collins, and it’s aptly named, as a whole lot of oud is what I get primarily from the onset. It’s a smooth, agreeable oud, however, that does not express too much of the animalic or medicinal sides that I’ve become accustomed to experience (in varying quantities) in fragrances featuring oud, whether synthetic or natural. Oud Galore, rather, gives a healthy dose of oud with a woody backdrop in a very pleasant way, less harsh than the oud used in Mancera/Montale fragrances, for example, but not quite as naturally funky as in purer uses of oud. Other notes that seem to be in the mix for me are clove, cinnamon, cypriol, sandalwood, and resins (Copahu Balm, incense). Mostly, it’s a spicy, woody mix involving oud, but not to the point of being too sharp, which would definitely have been my concern, looking at the note list. Instead, Oud Galore is very well put together, somewhat smooth, classy, apt for cool weather, and unisex enough though inherently a little masculine-leaning, in my opinion, based on more traditional norms. It’s surely well-done-enough and agreeable enough—as odd as that sounds for an oud fragrance—to the point that anyone can wear it. In fact, it’s probably a great means of introducing new wearers, whether older or younger, to oud. Oud Galore is dense and rich and very satisfying, even if not boundary-pushing in the oud genre. The Chris Collins line, including Oud Galore, is sold at a few US boutiques, including Perfumology and Indigo Perfumery. Oud Galore is priced at $225 for 50ml, more in line with the recent releases than the first few, still more affordable than other niche options but pricier still than some others, like the aforementioned Montale/Mancera catalogue of many ouds. Overall, I love it—a very nice release that I’ll have to try some more. 8 out of 10

Oud Galoré is one of those fragrances that either you love it or hate it. Much of that depends on whether you are a Rose fan. Although there are a plethora of notes and ingredients, Oud Galoré is a Rose bomb. This is not necessarily bad, however IMO I think it could linger longer than expected, thus becoming bothersome. Again, a great fragrance however after wearing it throughout the day, I began to become annoyed because of the pungent Rose that remained throughout. Oud Galoré reminded me of Black Aoud and Aoud Sandroses - Mancera. There is a deep, rich, sweetly, floral (rosy) aroma with a hint of Cinnamon and Sandalwood in the background. Again, there is a minty note along with Cinnamon, Madagascar Cloves, Rose, Geranium, Orris, Agarwood (Oud), Sandalwood, Cypriol Oil or Nagarmotha, Copahu Balm, Incense that envelopes the more the fragrance lingers. Who could go wrong with this type of fragrance. To me, this one could be unisex (IMO); The performance is great as I put some on this morning after leaving for the office, and the cloud bubble seems to be significant.

I enjoy a good rose-oud combo, and Oud Galoré is one of the sexiest and most seductive interpretations I've come across. Opens up with a rich and aromatic cinnamon and clove notes. The strong rose is balanced with the powdery geranium and buttery orris, two notes that are hit or miss for me but they're well done here. I don't pick up a lot of oud in this; it's there, but the sandalwood and nagarmotha are what I pick up the most in the dry down. Projects nicely for a few hours and remains a skin scent for a few hours more. It leans more feminine to me, though it is unisex. Would love to smell this on a woman. 8/10

I enjoy this scent on me. The rose is especially dominant, but it's balanced by the Oud. It's definitely a drier rose, not so jammy or sweet, and kind of spicy on the dry down. I feel like the dry down doesn't do much to distinguish from other Oud/Rose combos, such as Amber Aoud, but this is priced better, and I think it's important to support Black owned houses if I get the chance. I have 7 other scents in the discover set, so I don't know if this will be my full bottle, as my wife isn't as big of a fan of it as I am, but it's very nice.

This review is based on my experience with Oud Galoré so far, I only own a 5ml decant and only wore it for 3-4 occasions. I tried out Oud Galoré first during a trip to Belgium. From the first sniff I knew that I would need to explore it further so when I got home I ordered a 5ml decant of it. Sadly, in my country this is not widely avilable, so I had to really go deep into my contacts. The scent is lovely, a nice beginer friendly rose-oud combo. On my skin, the rose is super dominant for the first 20-30 minutes. This is the jammy type of rose, with some spicy undertone and a small hint of cinnamon lingering on the background as well. After the first hour passes the oud kicks in, to be more precise; it gently enters to the picture. It becomes a woody-oudy-rose combined scent. The oud is not overpowering, nor animalic - it is pretty wearable. I get around 6-7 hours with moderate projection. I think this is a scent which is a great introductiry piece to rose-oud perfumery. I usually did 4 sprays when I wore this to work (on special occasions, such as a Christmas party) and I do think that you don’t need more than 5 sprays at all from this nice juice. Definitelly school safe, but school and work is not really the place to wear this.
