Renaissance Man

I got a sample of this thrown in when I ordered a bunch of samples. Its description, having leather and tobacco, seemed to match the theme of what I was going for. But it turned out to be quite different. I had tried to find a marine aquatic that I like, but with little luck. I use Profumum Roma Acqua di Sale as a reference aquatic because it smells so much like the ocean. But it does so overpoweringly. Renaissance Man has the same aura to it. The pyramid shows sea notes in the top, but to me, this goes straight through to the base. This aquatic-ness is balanced with something that I would call aromatic. Is it pepper and sage? Maybe. I'm not sure i get leather from this. Tobacco, probably. But there is also the soft sweetness of of something like tonka or vanilla there also. So this perfume succeeds in being wonderful where Acqua di Sale fails. I would end up calling this an aromatic aquatic. It gives me the impression of having been at the beach, but also smelling very nice while there. My wife loves this, and so does my son. I could see wearing this to work. I put this at the top of my aquatic wants. It lasts very long and projects moderately. The sea notes will still be peeking out from my shirt the next morning. So maybe I'm crazy for seeing this as an aquatic, but I love it.

I got this as a Christmas gift, immediately I was disappointed - I had never heard of this house and the last thing I needed was another mediocre perfume that would sit at the back of my shelf. I have over 200 bottles and I’m trying to reduce them, so I thought maybe it should go straight to ebay. I decided to read the reviews here (that didn’t instill confidence) and watch some YouTube videos. Sebastian .... the Perfume Guy had a nice review. A couple of others raved about it. I was still not convinced. I checked out the website and read the brand story about Chris Collins. I watched more videos. I was still not convinced. But despite my doubt, I said F it, opened the package and banged it on (4 sprays) for Christmas evening dinner. I will admit, I am somewhat of a perfume snob and in this case I was wrong. This perfume is excellent, beautiful honey and ginger with slight aquatic nuances. This is VERY similar on initial wearing to Tom Ford for Men (one of my favourites) crossed with Varvatos Vintage. Leans a bit designer-ish - however so far I’m loving it. Will report back later when I’ve had a full proper wearing. I make no comment on price/value as it was a gift, but from looking online it does seem expensive for what it is.

To me this is an everyday wear kind of fragrance when you want to smell "classy". I can't explain it but when I wear this it just makes me feel classy. This has an classic men's cologne kind of smell, but I'm not sure an old man would wear this. I would say this is for men 28-45. When I first bought this I was very confused because I expected an aquatic type of smell based on the sea notes being listed. I got none of that, just pure baby powder. I put this away and came back to it several months later and realized it's actually quite nice. Yes it's powdery, but there's also something different about it. The honey I think adds a nice touch to this making it different than most mainstream stuff. Ironically, a few months later, I was wearing this and I actually got a sort of marine/ sea notes vibe from it. That's the one and ONLY time I've gotten the marine note.... It also lasts all day on me, which is a definite plus for an everyday wear fragrance.

I tried this perfume a few times during heat wave and absolutely hated it. Gingery salt water. Sickly sweet tobacco. Too much going on and every note trying to fight with one another. Almost tossed my decant. Fast forward to today...the first cold day of the year. The fragrance opened up as a warm comforting peppery ginger. Tobacco leaves rolled in with drops of honey. It's such a cozy smell. Definitely a cold-weather fragrance.

Familiar & yet unlike anything I have tried. Creamy tobacco with honey and cinnamon throughout. Sage & Ginger in the opening. Very masculine and more on the mature side. You need a 401k w/ 4% match to pull this off. This is more of an evening scent, but many notes make it suitable for daytime as well. $175 for 50ml is too much though. Make it $175 for 100ml and I’ll wear it everyday.

This smells like dark matter at the bottom of an ocean. It’s an interesting, grown up aquatic with a bit of filth and a gorgeous sillage. One of those fragrances you have to smell in the air, rather than digging your nose into it. If you love adg Profumo but want something even darker and more brooding, try this. I love it.

Tom Ford for men has always been a favorite fragrance of mine, so I was disappointed when it was discontinued. But despite loving the scent, I was never truly satisfied with the performance. This stuff smells super close to Tom Ford for men, but performs way better. I’m really glad I found this!

Sorry to see the negative reviews here. Wearing this one again today, what an unbelievably rich honey scent. Love it. Comparing to Xerjoff 40 knots, similar vibes.

Interesting. I did not get the sea notes at all, but I grew up on the ocean helping out with my grandfather's lobster boat so I think I expect something a little more salty and reminiscent of low tide when I see marine or sea notes listed. This has no ocean funk whatsoever. It does not even have a hint of salt that I can detect. Now for what it does have: The opening is quite strong and herbal, and almost floral on my skin but still with a lot of warmth. That quickly fades to a sweet honey/leather/tobacco mix. Younger people may not have this association, but for a while it was reminding me of a waiting room at a fancy restaurant from when people were still allowed to smoke indoors—leather seats, cigarettes, and the vague implication of gourmand from the strong honey note. After a while, the tobacco takes a back seat to more of a powdery sandalwood aroma, but the leather and honey stick around. There is a lot going on with this fragrance. I don't dislike it, but I tried it on a hot summer day and I think this is better for cool weather. It's very cozy and sophisticated. I'm excited to try it again around November. I think this would go over well in a dimly lit bar with expensive cocktails.

Surprised this has a low rating but I like it. I get the notes of honey, dry tobacco, cedar, sea notes and tonka. You can pull this off year round if it’s not too hot. As others have said, I don’t have anything in my collection like it. An interesting combination of powderiness and a mild skank. The super dry down (after 4 hour mark) turns it into a slightly more skanky version of Tom Ford Black Orchid Parfum...very nice

Renaissance man is less of an aquatic and more of a spicy scent for me. I get top notes of citrus and menthol with a base of honey and vanilla. There is a smokiness on the deeper end that I love. My only issue is that the performance isn’t there for me. Doesn’t last long or project enough. Overall, 7/10

This is awesome!! Yes powdery yes aquatic but not the salty kind i wouldn't think i like this but i love it , the honey and slight tobacco nuisance is stunning , the spices are blended very well projection not a monster but the trail it leaves is Pure bliss .. CEO vibes

Renaissance Man is a great aquatic fragrance, so light and moist, but not salty. All nuances are so light and refreshing, that it elevates you above the ground. Great, clean feeling.

Opening: Citrus and honey. Drydown: aquatic notes There’s an underlying creaminess, I think that’s the tonka note. Both masculine and pretty, this might be for men, but I like it.

Objectively I know this is a good fragrance. It's interesting and unusual, kind of aquatic, heavy on the honey, with facets of herbs and tobacco that also provide dryness. It's fresh, thick, and dry, all at the same time. But it kind of makes me feel queasy. I think I just don't like it on my own skin. The combination of sage and tobacco with the intense, full-bodied honey turns my stomach if there's too much of it. And it's pretty strong on me. The honey is not very sweet, nor is it overly urinous (maybe just a little? and this is the issue?) - it's just really thick with tobacco and is simultaneously beautiful and overwhelming. It kind of reminds me of the feeling I get when stuck in the car with someone using chewing tobacco. Just too rich at once, sensory overload. It's actually difficult for me to smell this up close in order to review it. I would be interested in smelling this on a man, though - I think in small doses it would be intriguing.

An aquatic, honey & tobacco fragrance sounds weird, but it works. Performance is a bit weak though.

One of the most disgusting fragrances I've ever tried. Blind bought a sample. No joke, it literally smells like animal urine.

With a wide variety of notes, Sea Notes, Ginger, Pink Pepper, Bergamot, Honey, Sage, Cedar, Cinnamon, Tobacco, Sandalwood, Leather, and Tonka Bean this fragrance seems to remain linear and barbershopish in my opinion all the way through. At first sniff, you get tobacco, ginger, bergamot, honey and cedar and a very manly aroma. I wasn't a fan of this one as I was of the others in the line. Overall, nice fragrance if you are into the kind of fragrances that seem dated. It isn't bad, just not for my taste. Performance is above average, longevity is moderate, and sillage is above average.

I really figured out after the reading into it I put, all that was said, all the notes, all the hype, the price, these would be stellar scents. Disappointed! I swear, like Jeremy Fragrance with his Fragrance One line, if you think you niche, wanna charge niche prices. Please know what you are doing and earn that shit. Earn it. Don't come out the gate trying to be Creed or PDM, it took them centuries to earn that. Please learn your lessons.

These fragrances are wildly overpriced for what you are getting. This is very powdery on me like a babys ass. There's something marine like in the base. It smells pleasant but I'd never buy it or recommend anyone to buy it. You definitely detect honey thats contributing to the sweetness but no tobacco or leather to my nose. It's a boring scent to be honest

I love it. It’s an aromatic fougere with depth. Masculine and mature. Unique. I don’t have anything like this in my collection.

I smell nothing aquatic even in the dry down. Warm spicy with honey sweetness.
