Oud Al Fayed

English 🇺🇸 Perhaps the finest fragrance I've tried from “The Perfumer’s Collection” by superstar nose Christian Provenzano. Oud Al Fayed carries the distinguished character of middle eastern perfumery, capturing the fragrant smoke of bakhoor, from the moment it touches the skin, the incredibly well rounded fragrance highlights the smell of turkish roses on first spray, set against the king of spices “saffron”, further transitioning into a core rich in amber, woods and musks, pairing the fiery aroma of Cambodian Oud to moss, as cypriol and patchouli set a contrasting earthy woody tone. The ending result, a scent of mesmerizing aura, purifying, relaxing and addicting like the aroma of oud chips burned in a Mabkhara. Many of the reviews below are spot on! The fragrance changes so much during its life......please don’t sample this and make any decisions in the first 2-3 hours. It was pure fecal-oud in the open for about 10 minutes.....if you ever tried Mamluk by Xerjoff, the transition is THAT fast. Like a completely different fragrance in 15 minutes. Then the rose came in to me. It’s a very soft rose as well. Not strong like some other rose fragrances. So if you avoid strong rose, you don’t need to worry at all here. I am a very novice nose so I probably missed many of the notes. For example I did not smell any jasmine or pepper. Also, many of the base notes listed aren’t there for me. It’s mostly a soft rose spice to me. Overall I would certainly love to own this. It might be redundant to some other rose fragrances I have but I don’t think so. I don’t think I have any this soft. I highly recommend you get your nose on it if it interests you.

Picked this up by absolute chance, best bit of good fortune ever. Absolutely love this scent profile, the way it changes through the life of the wear. That oud hits up front but settles down to the cypress coming through then the rose and finally a floral woodsy masterpiece. This sort of fragrance is why I keep loving this hobby. Smelled my arm so much first day I went nose blind and thought it had average performance. Oversprays the next day like a noob and it never let me forget it was there. Won’t make that mistake again... such a well put together, top tier fragrance

it's super romantic and a little bit uhh... natalist? LOL. this is the perfume you wear when you're about to procreate. has that oud-y funk that can be challenging, but it dries down to a more typical rose/oud combo. in between that, i think there's a sweet spot of the oud warmly radiating from the sweet fruity roses ...

Brie, bandaid, barnyard! That’s what’s the oud gives you here on immediate application. If you are looking for a pretty rose/oud which we’ve all seen a million times before? This is not it. All of the ugly facets of oud that you have to wade through before you get to the beautiful part are what is showcased in the first hour of wearing this one so, it’s not an easy reach. Add in some saffron, patchouli and Cypriol for good measure and they add to the medicinal/inky/antiseptic feeling that this fragrance has overall. The rose is very understated at first, lingering in the background but you know it’s there and it’s the saving grace of what would be a funky, tricky oud perfume. If you can survive the first hour or two the fragrance then gets into its stride and we are entreating familiar territory, a beautiful crisp woody oud with a soft, bouncy rose which wafts beautifully for a very long time. Overall not anything too different from your typical rose oud combos but I like the funk at the beginning, it gives it an edge.
