Amber Saffron

This was a gift and I'm glad it was because looking at the individual notes I wouldn't have been interested. When I think warm spicy I think of a heavy, cloying, sometimes headache inducing fragrance. It makes me think of Black Opium, which is actually something I like smelling on other people but I can't wear it without getting a headache and being able to taste it no matter how lightly I put it on. I would describe Amber Saffron by Clean Reserve as a soft, airy, cozy crowd pleaser. It smells clean without being shampooy, fruity or sharp, like someone who naturally just smells really good, but not in a perfumey kind of way. This is my most complimented perfume I have ever worn. I wouldn't say it has a strong projection, it's not something people can smell from across the room, but standing next to someone in a social or work setting gets me compliments more times than not. It's inoffensive but not boring. Absolutely heartbroken it's been discontinued.

Lately I've become quite jaded with perfumes. They all either smell boring or bland(boring again) or juvenile. I was really hoping that there would be some interesting releases over the holiday season, but nothing interested me enough to even go back to the store to sniff again. Then I wandered into Sephora and had a go at this new Clean line and was intrigued by Amber and Saffron. I would not normally gravitate to this sort of a scent, so it was nice to have something that I kinda liked. I asked the SA for a sample. I've drained it. It's not love, really, but something that's a little intriguing and NOT BORING. I think that I detect some honey in it, and I feel, rather than smell the saffron. An amber colored warmth. It's a terrific scarf smell. All in all, I agree with Jenavira, I'm not going to pay $90 for it, but I AM going to make sure that I'm not wearing any scent when I go to Sephora, so I that I can enjoy a good, long spritz from the tester.

I love this because it's so different and intriguing. I can smell a hint of amber but nothing in the way of how I'm use to smelling amber scents in fragrances. I have tested this 3 times to make sure I'm not crazy. This smell is the smell of new clothing that you buy at the store and this is why I like this smell. Not sure if it's good for a fragrance. It is definitely "clean" and not in a soapy or bathroom cleaner way. If they told me they sprayed this on new clothing before they shipped them to the outlets. I'd think "oh so that's how they get that smell". I wouldn't think anything of it because that is what it smells like. So strange lol No one else smells the leather!? This is even stronger leather than my Bvlgari black. These reviews lol everyone smells something different.

This is a great clean/fresh fragrance for oriental lovers. I get a light fresh warm scent that hints at being spicy and hints at being laundry-like. The raspberry adds a point of interest in the first hour but doesn't linger. There is a sweet powdery note to it. I can see how some people say it skews masculine, it does have a similar amber and saffron to some oriental colognes I've smelled, but I don't get any oakmoss or vetiver and it doesn't touch any of the classic cologne mixes. This might be my perfect summer scent. It's something I never would have thought to try and was sent as an extra in a swap and I'm so glad to have found it.

This is really nice! I'm getting a leather vibe too, which apparently is the saffron. I've never picked up that note as leather before, but perhaps it is the combo of notes I'm getting. In any case, I get a soft leathery amber, with a slight berry sweetness. The berry note is not the strongest player in the mix to my nose. Beautiful! I don't mind that it's so soft. This is something I could see myself wearing in any number of casual and/or work settings. Longevity is poor and it turns into a skin scent quickly. I would definitely buy a full bottle if I ran into a good deal!

I found it very interesting to read the comments here, they make it so very obvious that scents smell very different from person to person. I got myself a huge bottle of this one in a sale years ago (I am not allowed to wear perfume at work so this one will last a lifetime). I fell instantly in love with it! On me it is soft, spicy and autumn-y. Lots of amber with leather, musk and saffron. It lasts all day long and doesn't change much over the day. Amazing scent and the only one by Clean that I've found interesting at all.

I adore this fragrance - it's pretty much my go to in fall. I love both amber and saffron scents and, on me, that's exactly what this translates to on the skin. It's warm and mildly spicy, is a perfect companion to fall weather, and last well on me with medium sillage. My skin tends to change even the best perfumes into horrible mockeries of the notes they are supposed to have - like pickles or plastic - so I'm pleased to have found one that smells as advertised. It is, in my opinion, the best of the Clean line.

Received this as a sample and was unsure if I would keep it for myself or pass it on to my fella, as many unisex scents tend to turn sharp or soapy on my skin. The scent is gentle and truly unisex, smelling like warm leather and spice with a hint of sweetness - never turned sharp or soapy, and I will *definitely* be keeping this sample for myself.

Just your every day perfume lover. By no means an expert on notes ect. I wear a scent to enhance my mood or create one and this fragrance just makes me feel happy. I think it projects happiness in general. It is one of my all time fragrances and I happen to be wearing it right now ❤️

I typically hate amber heavy scents, but I love Tuscan Leather, saffron and raspberry, so it comes as no surprise that I love this scent. Unfortunately the projection is far too soft for my tastes, but I love the scent.

As another mentioned, there is a cotton candy bomb at the opening, not sure I would have thought to call it that, but now I can't unsmell it. It is however, an enjoyable fresh not overly sweet cotton candy, that opens into a lightly creamy balanced fruity white floral, with just a touch of amber at the base. It's very subtly warm - not hot at all. Just the tiniest hint of powder if you look for it. This would be good if you love hot spicy gourmands but need something interesting enough that won't offend out in public/at work or if you usually prefer cool subtle skin scents this could be your slightly warmer evening/winter scent. It all comes together very nicely. While it is interesting enough and far from generic, I'm just partial to extremely dramatic complex scents so I probably wouldn't buy it myself. But I am thoroughly enjoying my sample! There may be saffron, but I always have a hard time detecting saffron, even when it's homemade paella or saffron that I've grown myself, so take someone else's word on that over mine!

The notes and name for this is quite deceiving. Amber Saffron does not contain much (any?) balsam, labdanum, benzoin or vanilla, so why is it called Amber?. It is a suprisingly refreshing scent! I thought it would be sultry, warm and cozy, but it is not heavy at all. It simply didn't work well for me in winter, but it is great now in the spring! I agree that the raspberry is strong. It is not a very sweet scent though, the berry note is actually pretty realistic. Amber Saffron is slightly prickly, bitter and spicy - not something I normally love in a perfume, but I like that aspect in such a clean and airy perfume. No sugar here, usually an amber feels sticky, often heavy and sweet, but there is nothing of that either. To me it smells quite dry, but above all spicy. I have Sueded Oud too and it has the same vibe as this!

CLEAN Amber Saffron opens on my skin with a slightly sharp, laundry-like white musk and a woody raspberry note. The laundry musk retreats fairly quickly, and Amber Saffron is then dominated by this raspberry note until the end. I can say that there's some jammy rose, pollen-like lily and warm saffron, but I can't help thinking that it's the sort of raspberry-rose-oud aromachemicals often in those rose oud fragrances these days, only it's even cleaner and more transparent in CLEAN's version. The sillage is moderate to close, and the longevity is around 8 hours on me. I would not recommend it if you're interested in amber or saffron, especially the former, as it's really a raspberry-rose-oud fragrance to my nose. If you'd like a lighter version of this type of scents, Amber Saffron might be interesting to sample.

So I heard that this smelled like a combination of falling in love/TM blackberry and vanilla musk and santal carmin. I was hoping for 70% falling in love and 30% santal carmin but it is the opposite. The saffron/leather note is a little too much for my liking. I wish it was more berry less saffron. Edit: I really like it layered with Falling in Love! Perfect combination for spring or summer nights! It also helps it last a little longer. Both of those are perfumes that don't have the best lasting power unfortunately. Edit #2: I think I over sprayed the first time. I went in lighter and am really enjoying it. I do 1-2 sprays on wrists and neck and spray my clothes with falling in love and it's perfect for me.

This scent is better than people give it credit for. It is a very well composed scent that does something very interesting. It showcases darker elements in a light and clean way, thus it's name. It smells of high quality and refined. You get different notes like a leather sensation, a slight dark smokey sensation without being smokey and a pinch of that tuscan leather raspberry vibe. Overall it is a solid scent that has a niche quality about it. the problem with this scent could be it's performance.. But i can't judge the performance yet.

I love this scent. It's so versatile, even though it seems like a fall and winter scent it really works during the summer and spring as well because it's not that heavy. The longevity is not as good as most EDP:s but it's only slightly less than that. It's definitely worth the price for the amount in the bottle.

Not what I was expecting. Its just a slightly woody fruity scent on me. Nothing oriental or amber about it! Smells like a body spray from VS or BBW. Not bad, but def not worth $90.00!! Decent sillage and longevity. Not sure if Im keeping this yet....

Smells ok, probably one of the better ones from this line, it is SO WEAK!!!(beginning of Spring). Maybe it's strictly a hot and humid day wear but it is still WEAK. Unisex but weak. More a body spray than a perfume or cologne.

This is quite sweet, almost has a cocktail vibe to it. It's really pleasant, but smells "cheap". It's more raspberry than saffron/amber but it's still quite lovely. Pretty darn unisex too, so props. 7/10

Too much lime and raspberry for my taste. It's a perfume, not a daiquiri. I would have liked to smell less fruit and more amber and saffron, something more in keeping with the name.

Not what I expected at all. They went way overboard with the raspberry; it completely drowns out any amber and musk that should have been there, which turns this from what I expected to be a Fall/Winter scent into a maybe-Fall but definitely Spring scent. Disappointing.

It’s fine. I appreciate that it’s both unique but familiar at the same time. It does have a bit of sourness, I can see how some ppl are getting BO from that, but I still find it to be a nice enough scent. For me it’s a nice, but ultimately forgettable, scent.

It starts off interesting. The first few seconds, it's a spicy, citrusy amber. However, it devolves very quickly into a dime a dozen floral with herbal notes. I'm not getting any raspberry whatsoever. It's a very inoffensive, clean smell, and very subtle as well, but it's just so basic, especially considering the price tag. I think wearing no perfume at all would be more interesting than wearing this. Sprayed on clothes, the citrusy, fruity notes linger. But on my skin, this perfume just straight up withers away. What remains of it is strongly evocative of what you'd expect a department store to smell like. In fact, once you make that connection in your mind it's impossible to get rid of. It smells like I rubbed room fragrance over myself.

I think the fruits have gone off in mine, because it just smells very sour and sharp, almost acidic to be honest. After several hours I get a very close-to-the-skin amber/saffron/musk that's lovely in a body wash kind of way, but most of the life of the scent (about 3ish hours of about 6 hours noticeable wear) is just pungent in a bad way.

Unisex - on my dry skin it gets maleish. e very nice Saffon, Amber and Musk-mix indeed but I don't think this one is for me - too maleish. Unisex - och på min torra hud blir den manlig. En jättefin Saffran, Amber och musk-mix men verkligen manlig. Inget för mig.

I purchased this pre owned. It reminds me of bug repellent spray. I’ll give it more time to settle but right now it’s not for me.

This smells like greasy McDonald's french fries. No joke.

The Clean Reserve line so far has been a series of letdowns. None of them are bad, but quite a few are too close to plain old dryer sheets to justify their price. But along comes Amber Saffron and I have to say I am intrigued! A dominant raspberry normally makes an appearance in celebrity fragrances or commercial fruity-choulies. But this is much nicer as it is not overly sweet. On my skin, the raspberry is the most prominent note but is solidly supported by the saffron, musk, and amber. The musk and saffron combine to make something almost cedary. The way Clean uses saffron here reminds me of MAC's most recent Shadescents line; It adds a slight skin/sweat kind of feel that prevents Amber Saffron from becoming too artificial or too fruity. I don't get much bergamot or orange, they must be lending a brightening effect rather than a distinct citrus note. I also do not get lily or rose. Same thing: they are probably rounding out the scent rather than vying for dominance. I have no idea about the artemisia. Like others have alluded to, this is not a complex fragrance, but it is versatile and inoffensive. I interpret it as a more feminine scent for younger people. It isn't mature or sophisticated, but you could totally wear this every day and be fine. It is my favorite so far out of the Clean Reserve line. However, I don't think I would purchase a full-size bottle. The saffron is just intrusive enough to make this an occasional scent. It is very prominent in warm weather and isn't my bag.

I actually quite like this, would I pay full price tag for it? No but it's rather nice. At first blast it smell almost identical to Le Vie este Belle,very sweet and warm. But it dries down to a woody smokey scent and I love that. I get hints of the same dry down as Ralph Lauren Blue. I applied it at 11 am and I could still catch faint wiffs of it at 10 PM. I don't think it's a sillage monster but others may notice it if they get within your personal space but other than that it's more of a skin scent. I find that it is unisex but it's leaning more towards the female gender. I love the scent just wish it was more of a monster. It has that sweet smokey woody smell I crave.

I hate to not leave an actual review, but has anyone noticed a discrepancy between the notes listed here on fragrantica/other large retailers of clean fragrances and the actual brands list of notes? I’ve always seen saffron and raspberry, which is what’s kept me so interested in Amber Saffron, but on Cleans site the notes are completely different (and also don’t sound like the notes that would comprise anything close to an oriental spicy scent. Almost all citrus, and saffron isn’t even mentioned. It’s whack). Does anyone have a tester bottle or possibly an insert card from the box that lists the notes or description?

I went on a natural frag journey for a while there, you know how it is, sold all my designers, started using essential oils, blah blah blah and then I found this line. I went through every single of the Clean Reserve perfumes and this was BY FAR my favourite. This is spicy, unique, resin-y and sweet. I love my resins in perfume, and am particularly drawn to amber and benzoin. The saffron in this is so gorgeous and rounds out the fragrance. I never got around to buying a FB but would love one eventually. Overall 8/10, super cool. Also - did you know that the clear wrapping this comes in is made of corn??

A surprise new favorite for me- this is a subtle, easy to wear yet just complex enough to intrigue fragrance. My only complaint would be that it doesn't seem to last as long on me as I would like- maybe a four-hour span from beginning to end. Just enough of that nice soft smoke, mandarin, and a very light amber, and I personally do pick up on the delightful rose halfway in. Looking forward to learning how this scent works on me in the warm months of Summer, and happy to have found it quite by chance. I like how unobtrusive yet still "there" it is.

I don’t have perfume drinking skin and usually prefer lighter perfumes and colognes, but Clean Amber Saffron is nonexistent. I usually don’t say a perfume is like water, but this is like water. I have to put my nose into my arm to get anything. Even Jo Malone’s Wood Sage & Sea Salt is a heavy hitter in comparison to this. Anyways, the scent is a nice salty leathery amber. It would be a like for me if it’s 4x stronger.

I sort of get the people saying it has a leather-y vibe, but I don't think it smells like leather. I got more saffron on the tester paper than on me though. On me, I get a sour raspberry with artemisia in the background but I don't really get the saffron at all, nor the other floral notes. It's not sweet on me either unfortunately. I don't think this is a bad scent but I think it just doesn't work ideally on my skin.

I agree this offers some punch! I love amber, but not crazy about saffron though...this is fresh and warm at the same time, clearly a watery oriental to my nose...it isnt frankly feminine either, not is it masculine...it is bright, I just wouldn't buy it as I am not fan of saffron...but definitely an interesting scent!! With the fruity undertone, would be nice in warm weather too..

Holy cow I just received this in the mail. I blind bought it thinking i would love it because I thought i loved amber scents because my favourite perfume is Olympea Intense. This smells so flat and dull. It almost smells like body odour. I put it on and felt sick to my stomach and had to mask it with another perfume. I am going to sell this asap. Not a safe blind buy!!

I was expecting something much deeper and warmer. The opening is a cotton candy knockout. The leather notes are more subtle and keep it from becoming too childish or cloyingly sweet. Impressed!

Unisex for sure. Goes on fresh, sweet and juicy. At first was actually harsh but becomes tolerable after 2 hours, then remains linear. Blackberry musk...very similar to Sex 9 by Trish McCavoy.

Consider this a more adult version of BBW's Black Raspberry & Vanilla and Philosophy's Falling In Love. Does not smell bad but does not call for a $90 price tag either.

I got the mini roller ball of this. A few swipes on my arms and I realized, it’s basically b&bw black raspberry vanilla. Maybe not a dupe, but definitely a sister.

This is one of my favorite leather scents. The saffron is dominant and pushes it in a sophisticated leather direction. It smells like $$$$

Smells sour woody on my skin :( , weak projection too. Maybe can't match the chemistry, my sister wore this and smells good on her!

Beadvised, sometimes saffron comes across as smelling of leather. Could this be the leather you're perceiving?
