Rain

Tis be a perfume that I have as a participant of a collection of 4 that I wish to keep for life. A neutral scent this is. I wanted to smell like the rain because it is a memorable scent. Moreover, I felt that the rain scent would be a nice, insignificant smell that would be effective to play in case I didn't want to participate in a specific scent. In other words, this perfume was to be a filler scent that would not be special. This perfume was initially outside of my search parameters as I was trying to directly find a water scent via a note search. Then, I decided to search the word rain to comb through particular scents. I find this perfume to conclude that search. In reviewing the simplicity of this perfume's note layers, I found this perfume to be a risk in purchasing. Given that this perfume was to be a filler, it should represent its symbolic position within my collection of fragrance by having a cheap cost. Also, I didn't want to succumb to the horrors of purchasing 100 mL of alcohol smell. Hence, I found the price of about 90 bucks on Sephora to be a gamble. In retrospect, I found this perfume to be a good representation of a body odor at peace. This perfume is humble yet fulfilling in its use of white flowers to provide some resource to smell from. Want a perfume that is quiet, humble, and versatile, because that was what this perfume embodied to me. In concern to that collection of 4 that I mentioned, I find this perfume to be more permanent as it would be quite hard to perfect such a perfume. Perhaps, the infamously expensive rain smell that comes from India as an oil combined with these notes would be an upgrade. However, this wish is more ideal than real.

I'm a lover of all things natural and minimalistic, when I had £15 worth of Ndulge points on my SpaceNK card and couldn't find anything that jumped out at me, I stumbled upon this and I'm glad I have. Firstly, I love the concept behind CLEAN fragrances, I like the whole idea that they help to evoke or prolong feelings of being clean or being caught in a refreshing summer rain storm and I also love that they are cruelty free and that the packaging and ingredients are sustainably sourced. The bottle for starters looks elegant and minimal, its made of thick glass which has a nice weight and with the wooden cap and paper label, it looks really lovely amongst my other bottles, the cap also fits on the sprayer tightly and doesnt slip off meaning its easy to travel with it. As for the scent itself, it really does smell like rain, but more of a summer rain storm when you're walking through a woods, the patchouli really gives this a pleasant wet soil type nuance and there is something a bit salty running through this from beginning to end as well, I cannot really pick out the other notes bar the patchouli, but it does smell wonderful and fresh. For an EdP, its quite soft but I feel that is just the nature of the CLEAN Reserve range of scents, 4 sprays will last me for about 5 hours but its quite soft and close to skin, so depending on how the mood takes me am a bit heavy handed on the trigger, but I absolutely love this one! Definite repurchase in the future, a solid spring/summer staple!

I have the 10ml travel spray. This is such a pretty perfume. It smells like a heavy downpour. One of those days where the rain droplets are completely soaking all of the plants and their leaves seem even greener and more vibrant against the grey sky and atmosphere. All you can hear is the powerful sound of rain pelting down. It’s strikingly refreshing, green, and clean, but the patchouli lends some sensuality in the dry-down. On the packing it’s noted that the fragrance family for Rain is “watery musk” and that’s a completely accurate categorization in my opinion. There’s almost a faint sea salt note or the aura of something salty, but not quite. It mixes really well with my skin chemistry. I love that the travel size is a spray and not a rollerball. The packaging is minimalistic and beautiful.

Clean, fresh, simple, citrusy, elegant. There isn't any complexity to this scent but in this case it's a good thing. It's very pleasant and refreshing. "Minimalist" would be a good word for it, I guess. So far I like everything I try from Clean, it is always so nice and comforting. My favourite is "Skin", but "Rain" has all the chances to replace it now, haha. By the way, not sure why they decided to call it "Rain". Rain is the last thing that comes to my mind when I wear it. This smell is more like an early morning run on a crispy but sunny spring day, when you suddenly encounter a lemon tree of an incredible beauty and stop to look at it to appreciate the moment.

"watery musk" is the perfect description for this fragrance. it smells like sweet rain in the early hours of the morning, so i'm excited to wear it this autumn as i suspect it'll suit the moody atmosphere beautifully. the projection is perfect for my tastes, not too close to the skin that i have to put my nose to it to smell it, but not too strong that my nose is constantly bombarded by scent. i was surprised to see that patchouli is a base note, because it smells light and airy which i don't think are adjectives one would assign to patchouli. it's a beautiful blend, definitely my favourite of the three clean reserve blends i've tried so far.

Rain is a bit of an unexpected love! I do enjoy green/petrichor/citrusy fragrances, but I overall do not like patchouli at all. However, the patchouli note in this is either very mild, or it's a specific variation that's much more pleasant on the nose. I find Rain to be a crisp, clean scent that's perfect for a warm spring or summer day. The notes are bright enough to cut through humidity while remaining balanced and wearable. I do agree that this could lean slightly masculine, but it's not overpowering at all. This will be added to my spring/summer rotation now that the weather has gotten warmer. Super enjoy this!!

This is one of the most photorealistic perfumes that I have in my collection- it smells just like a clean, heavy rainfall that I love to layer with Armani's Ocean Di Gioia for the ultimate 'clean girl' refreshing water scent. I was shocked to find out that patchouli was the base note of this fragrance, as it doesn't come across at all. Honestly after smelling I wouldn't be able to guess any of the notes in this as it just smells like fresh clean water to me. I'm on my second bottle, and will power through it once it gets a little warmer outside :)

this is genuinely the best perfume and best scent i have ever smelt in my LIFE. in like 2019 i got this random eucalyptus verbena hand sanitizer from a salon (i have an obsession with eucalyptus it’s a really good smell) and i have rationed it since then because it literally smells heavenly, then one day i came across this beautiful fragrance that happens to nearly smell the exact same as it. not to mention i have never smelt a more unisex fragrance ever, so if anyone is looking for a perfectly unisex fragrance like i was this is perfect!!!!

Clean Reserve Rain is one of my all-time favorites!!! I have been in LOVE with this one since I first smelled it. This is a true unisex scent in which it is fitting for everyone. Spring and summer, especially rainy weather is the best time to wear this one. Rainy weather amplifies the notes and in my opinion, the sillage as well. I can't wait to get my hands on the full bottle! It can be masculine leaning to some - however in a comforting way rather than overpowering. It gives an out-of-the-shower fresh scent

I feel like this has more of a warm citrus than a rainwater smell, but I love it. It is one of those scents that makes me close my eyes and hum when I smell it, lol. It is not too bitter and has a very clean and refreshing smell. I am picking up a little on a floral scent as it settles, but it is more of a fruity floral, not straight flower smell. Kind of reminds me of one of my favorite scents Ralph by Ralph Loren. I don't find the Patchouli scent to be very strong on my skin which is perfect.

I received an 8ML supply of this as part of my monthly ScentBird subscription (which is great btw). This fragrance is very fresh and clean, inoffensive, and great for any occasion. I would say better for Spring or Summer though. Lasts pretty long and projects well, since its an EDP concentration. I probably would buy a bottle of it eventually once my 8ML runs out. It is very pleasant. I dont really feel its very "floral" as fragrantica says...to me its more watery smelling.

Never would have thought that rain could smell like something, but this is quite accurate. It’s like a tropical rainstorm in a rainforest. Very nice, both fresh and warm at the same time. Longetivity is outstanding, sillage is very good, though its not in your face, and surely very unique. Compliment getter for sure, and definitely unisex. I recommend this highly, makes me curious about the other reserves. Try it if you can!

this is great. got a travel size on sale and i adore it. it was one of the scents that got me back into regularly wearing perfume. i don’t find this to be floral at all, it’s just a beautiful rain and earthy smell. i think this pairs well with earthy-herbal smells.. i’ve layered it with h24 in the past and really liked it. i definitely find that it is more unisex and masculine-leaning.

It is a clean and soapy scent for me. Very inoffensive, not loud not bold. Office appropriate, everyday appropriate and good for those days when you just want to smell a little nicer and go for gorcery shopping kinda scent. I kinda like it, if you can get this in a good deal, worth give it a try. Remind me of Philosophy's scent but with a little better longetivity

Wow. This is a beautiful fragrance. Purchase this last year and i fell in love at first sniff. Reminds me sitting in the beach mid afternoon and it just finished raining and lots of cloud and gloomy while the wind blowing around 15 to 25 mph and its cool weather relaxes your mind. Glad i discover this fragrance. Fresh, elegant, and sexy at the same time.

I don’t think this perfume gets the love it deserves. This perfume is so uplifting and fresh! Sure it’s not the most COMPLEX scent but that’s what layering is for! It’s a dream to pair with a good musky skin scent like Another 13 (it’s gives it a SLIGHT chloriney smell but in the best possible way) or a salty scent like Salt Air by Skylar.

This is my go to cozy/ bed scent. Its name is not fitting though. This should be named after the rain. I get the brand is more simplistic, but this is not rainfall but more so the grounding elements that become fragrant after a rainfall. It is kinda expensive at retail for a skin scent, but there are discount sites for a reason.

This is different than what I usually go for. My nose picks up the fresh rain smell. It reminds me of standing on a cliff in the forrest near a waterfall as the mist from the water wafts through the air. It also has a slight soapy/clean scent that I enjoy. I’m pleasantly surprised at how much I love this.

Extremely fresh and clean. The bergamot isn't overwhelming, and the strong scent of white flowers carries through for the duration. I call it a strong skin scent after 4 hours. Smells like you just stepped out of a fresh shower, and maybe you used your girlfriend's expensive soap much to her dismay.

I LOVE this scent, it's become my everyday go-to for spring/summer. It smells grassy and fresh to me, like standing in the backyard on a summer morning, barefoot in freshly mown grass that sticks to your skin with the dew. I got a 100ml bottle for $7 (!) but I would rebuy at full price if I run out.

Wow this is good. Dewy, rain-kissed flowers. Fresh and slightly sweet, the bergamot is lovely. All wrapped up in a really pleasant petrichor bubble. I did not expect to like it so much. Went into Sephora to test it and immediately knew I have to leave with at least a travel spray.

it smells like a tropical rain. imagine brazil after a heavy rain. you can smell a hint of fruit that has been watered. you are walking down a concrete road and can smell the heated rain under you. i really like it. would be very pretty in a colder spring / late winter

I love this scent. It's a bit sweet, but not overwhelming. I have perfume sensitivity to sweet scents, but luckily for me of all of the Clean sweet scents are working great for me. Rain is more fruity sweet and fresh at the same time. Perfect scent for everyday wear.

I really like this perfume, it's so unique! Fresh but also kind of dewy, like a forest after the rain. On me, this lasts forever, I can still smell it on myself the next day. Leans a bit more feminine but a guy could so get away with wearing this. Love it!

Such a great daily fragrance to wear. Smells very fresh and clean, but subtle. Can go well after taking a shower, or going to bed, or after the gym etc. I would highly recommend if you are looking for something simple and easy to wear

One of my new favourites. Less like rain, more like misting houseplants on a hot day. To me this smells exactly like Animal Crossing Wild World, so I'm guessing I must have smelled something very similar when I was a kid.

I really dont understand how people think this smells masculine if i smelled this on a man i would think they got some of their gfs perfume on them or something. Very nice and fresh citrusy floral but very feminine.

I love this one. I didn't at first. I thought it smelled far too masculine and like wet tar instead of the earth after the rain. But somehow it became addictive... fresh yet musky, clean yet spicy.

I have been using this for years and I can’t find anything I love more than Rain. It’s so clean, fresh, and pure. It’s so easy to wear regardless of the season. Definitely my type of scent.

It starts out very floral but quickly settles down into a wet semi-floral earthiness I really enjoy. It's a very light scent so you could easily wear this every day. On my to-buy list.

I love this scent. Its fresh and watery. It doesn't really remind me of rain but it does have a wet and earthy feel once its dried down. The patchouli in this makes this smell lovely.

Every time I wear this I get compliments, every time. It's a great unisex scent. It also lingers more than you'd think, especially when sprayed on clothes.

I love ozonic smells, and when I stumbled upon this at Sephora, I couldn’t help but test this. Right away, Rain is a clean, welcoming, fresh, pleasant scent. Lemony fresh in every sense of the word. The opening note all the way to the dry down is a light, piquant citrus. The white florals are subtler but add a softer, slightly aldehydic edge, taking off some of that citric sharpness. The drydown is cool and grassy, with a slight earthiness and, yes, even a little ozonic. Just a little. I believe that’s how the patchouli manifests. This isn’t a strong, hippie-ish or incense-like patchouli—this is a wet earth and forest floor patchouli, just a hint. Overall, Rain is a lovely scent with not a lot going on. It’s straightforward, simple and likable. However, I would hesitate to call it a truly ozonic scent. The dry down has just a hint of the “rainy” scent profile, but it has less emphasis on petrichor and more on freshness. It has more in common with the previous soapy, laundry scents in the Clean roster, like Blonde Rose, Skin and of course, Warm Cotton. It’s similar to Maison Margiela Replica’s When the Rain Stops, except that scent is more obviously aquatic, ozonic and accurately petrichor, with pine added to the patchouli in the drydown for effect. But Rain by Clean is still a good scent. If you’re looking for an accurate rain scent, this might not be it—but you will smell very good and very fresh, and what’s not to like about that?

This was my first try and buy fragrance when I started my perfume journey, I went to a shopping mall right before a student council event and ended up being late to the event as an officer. This will always be my reminder of that. The first thing that comes to the top of my head is that the tester in the store might have been a bit more saturated than a brand new bottle, when I first smelt it in store I did think this was quite close to the smell of rain. My travel size I bought smells more like wet. The opening is extremely odd, the bergamot strikes the smell quite quickly but it can be somewhat quick to fade, the white florals can kinda give a platform for the bergamot to strike and it does elude to rain but maybe after it has already came and the raindrops are just very light, like the storm is passing over. Very fortunately the light rain smell persists after the drydown, and it lingers on both the skin and clothes very cleanly, but both will smell differently adding that layered but not layered effect that gives its bit more depth! The Clean brand definitely has some good value in their perfumes and they are mostly very nice! This is a good misty, clean, floral, if that’s what you’re looking for. 100% this is mean’t for the kings, queens, and monarchs! The unisexualness is off the charts diva! Definitely works the best in a clearer setting.

I purchased a full bottle soon after sampling this on my skin at a visit to Sephora. Got confused by the two Clean branded fragrances when I saw this one at Sephora. I live in the concrete jungle so rain to me smells like rain soaked cement/asphalt and that slightly dirty, earthy cloud (ozone?)smell that descends right before and during early light rain. I've have yet to smell a fragrance that captures this essence of urban rain, but to be fair I've only tried one other rain scent, Replica's after the rain which is a verdant, wet forest/grass rain smell. So, this scent smells nothing like urban rain yet there are nuances that give me that earthy touch, probably the damp patchoulli. The patch is suble yet noticeable. I love patch so I like that part. Also this is a very clean, fresh, dewey floral smelling rain scent, I imagine it would smell like this in a flower garden after or while it's lightly raining. I'm not a big fan of white florals but something about this fragrance that works on my skin. This works well as a clean, summery, white floral, slightly citrusy scent with a hint of earthy and ozonic undertone. So my conclusion is that it only subtly reminds me of rain. The fresh feel is the star character.

This is my first experience with the Clean line, and I like it! Usually I prefer scents with a bolder profile, but from time to time I do appreciate this discreet, second-skin, clean kind as well; they're very nice right after a shower, for instance, and I can also definitely see their appeal for situations where fragrances aren't very welcome but you still want to smell a little extra nice. And this Rain is a good example of the genre. It's a watery floral that reminds me of The Body Shop's Oceanus, which is a nice nostalgic bonus for me, and it is rather believable as a "rainy" scent too - not the northern city fragrance of rain on asphalt that I know best, but a light tropical shower on a lotus pond. The bergamot is a nice touch as well, but it quickly fades away. Others have mentioned that it smells rather synthetic and I don't disagree, but I personally don't mind that, as long as the scent is balanced, and this one is. So I was pleasantly surprised by this one, and although I don't think I need a bigger amount of this exact one, it's made me want to explore the Clean line further and maybe find my own ultimate out-of-the-shower scent.

Rain should have been renamed Humidity. It doesn't smell like a rain shower, but more like the post-scalding-hot-morning-shower humidity that stays suspended in the air and wafts off of your skin. There's a smell of clean water, the sensation of thick steam in my nose, and an amalgamation of my shampoo, body wash, lotion, and face treatments. I personally find it very comforting and an easy pick for workwear as it is clean, albeit in a slightly atypical way. It is also atypical in that Rain feels very warm to me rather than cool likenyour usual aquatic or soapy perfume. Like you can smell the warmth radiating off skin before you dry off after your shower. I very much enjoy it. However, anyone looking for a literal petrichor scent will be disappointed. Rain is soft in the throw department but lasts all day with gentle wafts floating up to my face. Edit: I actually walked outside the other stormy day and smelled this perfume. I thought it was odd as I distinctly remembered picking a different scent that day. Then I considered that the similarity between Rain and a literal rainy day are significant! Rain does smell like rain.

Sometimes I think Rain smells more masculine, other times more feminine, so I think this is one of those rare true unisex scents. It's cool and cologne-like, yet there's a sugary, sweet base that keeps it from entering that more masculine territory. I've been on the hunt for a petrichor scent for a while, but I've come to realize that no so-called petrichor scents is actually going to smell like rain. Still, this is my favorite "petrichor" scent. There is a lot more going on in this scent than what the Fragrantica scent pyramid indicates---it's not representative of how this smells at all. This is the true consistency: Top: Bergamot, Chilled Cucumber, Waterlily Middle: Dewy White Flowers, Cyclamen, Muguet Dry Down: Patchouli, Rainforest Vetiver, Clean Musks I'm not a fan of cucumber scents. So if you're like me, just know this steers clear of the dreaded BBW cucumber melon territory! Also, if you're scared by the patchouli, I'm a huge fan of patchouli and don't pick it out at all.

Surprised to not see much mention that this is similar to Gap Grass. Instantly gave me that wave of nostalgia for my mom’s grass perfume that I loved so much. I’ve been trying to find a ringer for Grass, and haven’t yet found the perfect one, but this will do the trick when I’m looking for that scent! **Update: played around some more with this one and notice it’s a bit too masculine for me. It’s more feminine in the opening and has that reminiscent blast of gap grass (which has a nice watery floral note)... but it settles in quite masculine on me. Although it’s still pleasant, so I’ll be giving it to my fiancé. The dry down is actually giving me hollister vibes. To add a side note, I find that Rain by Commodity is more feminine than this one. Commodity Rain keeps more floral sweetness, while this one goes into fresh patchouli cologne vibes.

I sampled the whole Clean Reserve line when I was first getting into perfume collecting, and this was the only one I enjoyed and purchased. Now, having smelled loads more fragrances, this has gone pretty far down on my list of preference in my collection. I smell it and my first thought, and sometimes an out loud yelling, is “woah, soapy!” It’s musky, yes, but it really is just a soapy clean (hence the brand, I suppose) like Hotel white floral. I wouldn’t say its citrusy, even with that bergamot note. It’s fresh, not super long lasting, but also not super loud. It stays close to the skin, makes you smell like you shower. It’s fine. I won’t repurchase another bottle. It definitely smells cheaper than it is. Scent: 6.5/10 Longevity: 6/10 Overall: 6/10

I'm surprised to not see more notes of petrichor mentioned. It's what I notice most on the first spritz--the smell of water soaking the ground, a pleasant earthiness that reminds me of moss and tree roots and wet broken branches. After a little while, a fresh watery scent--only slightly floral--breaks through. I sampled this and Demeter's Rain at the same time. While I initially preferred the Demeter, over time I found it to more closely resemble a bucket of water or bathroom cleaner than rain. I'm happy I decided to purchase the Clean Reserve instead, as it has a little more depth and freshness. I love to layer it underneath other scents so I can experience a variety of different moods with the backdrop of a rainy day.

i tried this scent twice throughout the year. the first time, it read really masculine on me, and i put it away for months. i couldn't detect the floral notes; it was all patchouli on me. some time ago, i decided to revisit this perfume. it had been suggested to me while I was searching for "clean girl" scents, and i'm glad i did! the initial spritz is definitely patchouli with a "men's" cologne vibe, but the dry down is where it's really at. it has a simple, soapy, fresh smell—perfect for everyday wear. it layers beautifully, too. i don't normally wear it on its own, but it can be a gorgeous building block for days when you want to smell like laundry/clean skin/or bubbles. it pairs well with florals too!

Smells sooo much like Ralph Lauren Purple Label to me. Errs on the side of masculine from unisex but I think this is not so masculine that it should deter women interested in femme fragrances, this is a really nice fresh scent that would be great for a spring brunch or summer outing :). I mean this in a good way but it reminds me a little of Old Spice Fiji, fresh and a little citrusy, and smells a little like the first boy you had a crush on in highschool who you thought smelled soooo good when in reality he just smelled like he showered regularly. NOT a bad thing though, Performance is just alright, but price point is decent too :)

First the bergamot comes out in a huge, harsh wave. I normally love bergamot but it is just SO in your face. Fortunately, it vanishes pretty much completely, leaving white flowers behind. And that is the pleasant part. It doesn't last terribly long, at most six hours, more like three or four. But while it's there, it's pretty, like an old-fashioned, delicate floral scent. As far as I could tell, there wasn't any noticeable patchouli at any time. Too bad. If it had just been more present, it would have been longer lasting. My boyfriend liked it, said I smelled really nice.

If Clean’s Warm Cotton is the detergent that you used to wash your clothes with, Rain is the dryer sheet you throw in the dryer with them. It’s not a very “wet” or petrichor smell to me, which is what I would expect for something named Rain. It definitely has that smell of clothes fresh from the dryer that are still warm. It has a tiny bit of earthiness but not enough to take over the sweetness. I think a better “wet rain” smell is Mosaic from Imaginary Authors. It’s a pleasant scent but not for me and one I won’t purchase the full bottle of. 3/10

I tested this on my skin in Sephora. I did not like the opening notes. It was dominated by white florals and I did not like that. I was sure I was not going to get this for myself. However, the dry down had me thinking twice. It was mostly patchouli and bergamot on my skin, like I just freshly showered. It was similar to Skin by Clean minus the vanilla note. I like that. This is a perfect errand or at home summer fragrance. Maybe, even an inoffensive fragrance for work. It is a unisex fragrance slightly leaning masculine.

Rain starts off pretty laundry fresh but not harsh. It settles to something more smooth, musky and watery. Squarely unisex. Inoffensive, understated, and nice. Like whoever wears this is probably a nice person who would let someone cut the line in the grocery store, always tips 20%, and is direct without seeming brash. If you are looking for something cheaper than 11 11 and don’t mind a fresher opening this might work for you. They’re similar enough that having both would be redundant.
