1872 Basil

As of late I have been super into basil in general. So I bit the bullet and blind bought this. I have smelled the original 1872 before (recently) and liked it but didn't exactly fall in love with it, however it was good enough to add to the collection. I figured with the addition and focus on basil, it would only improve the original....and I was right! This stuff is 85% of the original but with an added dimension. It's a darker shade of green with a less "sharp" feel. This is sort of like a toned-down, not as vibrant variation of the original. The mint and the basil are absolutely in charge for the majority of the time with the original DNA supporting it throughout the life of the longevity. Both versions are similar. If you want a sharp, statement-maker go with the original.....If you want a more well-rounded, slightly calmer scent, go with Basil! In my opinion you can't go wrong either way, however, the Basil offers something a **little** more without taking away from the integrity of 1872!

This is a limited edition basil version of a classic fragrance by Clive Christian (the high-end modern rendition of the old Crown Perfumery in England) known as 1872 for Men. According to the note breakdown, it supposedly has amped up basil and mint compared to the original, and is in 20% concentration, and full of natural essential oils and absolutes. However to my nose, this and the original 1872 for Men are basically identical. The main notes - as in the regular version - are of a green bergamot, grapefruit, and herbs mix which smells slightly old-fashioned. Performance is good, with moderate projection and 8+ hours longevity. Ultimately I decided to sell this though, because in the drydown, the grapefruit note in this turns ever so slightly sour on my skin to the point of annoyance sometimes, although it's a great fragrance overall. 4/5
