Jump Up And Kiss Me Hedonistic (2021)

Monday's Clive Christian review was Matsukita and that one was absolutely incredible. I went into today's review of Jump Up And Kiss Me Hedonistic assuming it wouldn't be as good. Two hours into wearing it, I am delighted to say that is not true. It is gorgeous, but very different. The fruity opening is lush and juicy but not synthetic feeling or especially sweet. I get more of the black cherry and grapefruit than the mandarin or bergamot but they are all blended with characteristic Clive Christian style and the effect is intoxicating. This is the first cherry fragrance I've actually properly enjoyed. Many of the others have a latexy feel that goes in a cough mixture sort of direction but this is silky smooth and incredibly sexy. There is some clary sage and some mate in this that make it addictive off the skin. The heart and base notes are a very finely judged cocktail of complimentary notes that are surprisingly hard to pick out because they are so well folded into each other. It is hard to tell where one begins and another ends. Imagine when you're wordlessly lying naked in a hotel room bed in the dark with someone you love intertwined in your limbs, calming down and listening to each other's breathing return to normal. Your skin is hot and sheened with post-procreative glow, and the way the other person's skin feels as it is pressed gently against yours makes you imagine you can feel their heartbeat through your skin. You are joined with the other person as you lie there, tasting your own sweat and the sweetness of their body on your lips. You can smell the tender musk of their skin and the clean white sheets that are crumpled all around. You close your eyes and the darkness seems to dance in front of your eyelids to the melody of your racing hormones. That is how this fragrance feels. Hedonistic has no oud in it but has the feel of a oud fragrance in that there is a fruity and spicy top and a woody base with an exotic and unfathomably complex feel quite apart from your common garden variety perfume. It feels incredibly hedonistic and the name is very well chosen. If we go back to the hotel room analogy, we imagine this couple had a very hard-to-get restaurant booking but had a bottle of Ruinart whilst getting ready and so never made it out of the room. Both of you want to get up, perhaps drink some water, put on some music and open a curtain just a shade to let in some of the outside world but neither want to move because the soul of the other person feels so close somehow. Layering combination suggestion: Like Matsukita, there is a lot going on here so I don't think this is a good choice for layering. There isn't any aspect that you would want to throw out of balance by adding to it. Partially a blind buy--smelled it a long time ago and couldn't remember anything other than thinking it was nice. This immediately became a favorite in my collection. I've owned about a dozen from Clive Christian; this is the best I've experienced. This is an easy compliment-getter and smells very nice. It's advertised with the "AddictiveArts" technology. That's a snake oil gimmick; don't expect anything beyond an awesome fragrance. It's not exactly life changing as the marketing would suggest. I love cherry fragrances, and this does it very well without veering too far into the car freshener or candle territory, although it does have some nuances of that vibe to me. It's definitely signature-scent worthy in my opinion, and I plan to wear this a lot. I've only worn it in cold weather, and it's had good performance--a full workday with projection probably fading off to about arm's length or less around the 6 hour mark. I expect this to likely improve when my bottle macerates. It's very rich and expensive smelling. I think it's appropriate for office use and even better for nights out. As someone who likes to dress up a little, it fits me very well. I will be interested to see how it is in the heat. I like it so much that I want to enjoy it year-round, but it honestly is a fairly dense scent that I worry may be too heavy in the heat, even in small doses. My wife is pretty jaded on my fragrance collecting at this point, and this is one she actually likes a lot. She's quite picky, so when she gets impressed, I'm thrilled. Bottle-wise, it's fairly basic. Atomizer is high-quality with a nice spray, as it should be at this price point. HOWEVER, the first bottle I received had its atomizer sleeve start to detach as soon as I bought it, completely unacceptable. It was a tester; I returned it and bought a full retail presentation. Good to go now. Lastly, I don't think it really smells like anything directly. The closest thing no one else has said is Desert Suave, but only after DS' has dried down a couple hours. Maybe a distant cousin, but a cousin nonetheless. Worth it? Not full price, but under $300, yes. It's potent juice, so this bottle will last a long time. HEDONISTIC Julie Pluchet first 2017 > then 2021 in a new bottle, haven’t tried older formulas JUMP UP AND KISS ME HEDONISTIC is absolutely addictive, utterly complex and one of the most praised blends in the market with a reason. It has so many facets in it from the deep and dark fruitiness in the opening, through the sensual and intense floral heart with Tobacco to a rich oriental base. The special individuality of this fragrance is brought by three elements. Skillfully crafted Black Cherry together with Vanilla creates a subtle gourmand character. A dry and smoky tobacco with sweet nuances of maple, caramel, and hints of violet, rose, and whiskey is ingeniously created. The base is enriched with Labdanum which includes opulence of ambery, leathery and smoky facets, gentle balsamic, resinous qualities and soft, delicate side of Vanilla and Tonka. The texture is thick and creamy but not so opulent than the texture of Ecstatic. Both are luxurious, head-turners with extremely high quality and exceptionally skillful blending. Hedonistic’s sibling Ecstatic is not so complex and I don’t find them similar at all. There is Amber and Tonka in the base of Ecstatic but it’s not that kind of “ambery” like you could think when seeing the notes. You can find some other fragrances which are in the same category with Ecstatic, I mean like other options when choosing some creamy white floral but I don't know of any competitors to Hedonistic because it's so unique. Hedonistic ... the power of the darkness. Such an incredible, mysterious and beautiful perfume. It’s a work of art from Julie Pluchet. I guess she didn’t realize at the time of her creation, that she made something very special and magical. The bottle has deep blue color and if you shine your phone torchlight through you will see deep purple color on sides, wow! The perfume opens up strong with red sweet cherry bathed in alcohol/cognac, tea matte with freshness of bergamot , neroli, bergamot and grapefruit. Yes it’s mainly fresh perfume (with touch of sweet), and a fresh perfume what is it ? Yes -a compliment getter and overall best pleasant type of perfume than sweet/gourmand for masses. People love fresh smell. Remember that. Hedonistic follows next with Jasmine, Iris , papyrus and a very faint almost imperceptible sweet tobacco. At base note it has musk smell but unfortunately because of regulation to forbid animalistic musk , we have to use labdanum. I hope we can have real animalistic musk one day. Tonka and vanilla are present. Overall to simply describe it : tea and cherry in alcohol , green plants with flowers, forest after rain, musk. Aphrodisiac vibe of seduction/sexiness. Excellent perfume 10/10 Long lasting up to 24hours or more on clothes, 5-8h on skin with intimate smell after 10-12h. Sillage is moderate-strong, people have to be around 1-3 meters to smell your perfume. It becomes somewhat intimate near the end. It’s old money style. When you are rich and you don’t want to show off how rich you are. This is hedonistic. Silent luxury where it doesn’t screaming off. Perfect for people who wants a beautiful perfume but without making other suffocating. It’s calm as smell. Clive Christian is now french brand !

It has taken me several months of wearing this daily to decide that I really love it, and it's a masterpiece. I had first gotten a sample of the 2017 version and thought it was absolutely enchanting. But I had gone into a department store and sprayed this 2021 version on my wrist, and my experience was as a horrible bubblegum kind of thing that I went right back home and scrubbed off. I did this twice, months apart, but in the same store, with the same result. I don't understand. Was it a wrongly labeled bottle, does it just not work on my wrist? I don't know. Somehow I decided to order a bottle anyway, and I don't regret it. There are so many notes that it is hard to say what it smells like, and hard or impossible to identify all that is on the list. The opening is a very fresh, green, fruity, gourmand explosion. So, bergamot, grapefruit, violet leaf, and whatever else makes it so green. But cherry, I don't get that at all. It turns into a less fruity, but still green kind of thing, with, yeah, tobacco. And the drydown is to me an animalic amber vetiver kind of thing. It is delightful to wake up in the morning and still smell that. I personally find it very enjoyable to wear, just for my own sake. Complex, always interesting. I haven't gotten much from others. My wife thought it was ok, but not her favorite. I've gotten a couple of "oh, is that a new perfume?", but nothing really positive.
