Frosted Moon

A beautiful fresh, creamy and green scent. I love it as a daily wearer.

I have long wanted to explore Cloon Keen, an Irish perfume house (a rarity!) that is pretty acclaimed. Frosted Moon, a green iris-forward scent, was the one I gravitated towards first. It is pretty subtle for an EDP, but is a nicely-composed spring/summer daytime scent along the lines of my beloved No. 19. FM opens with a juniper-like freshness, which, alongside the boozy opening, brings to mind a G&T. This subsides quickly, giving way to a hazy greenness thanks to the galbanum. Powdery iris follows closely, slightly rooty, forming that beautiful green-iris accord. There is a slight muskiness, clean and blurry, complementing the powder beautifully. Soft woody notes creep in as it dries down, becoming a woody, musky skin scent. Sillage is intimate and longevity is weak. A feminine-leaning, lightweight scent for the spring, FM is elegant and discreet, but its performance leaves much to be desired. 3/5.

Ultimately a pleasant and soft green and clean galbanum scent when the initial powdery musks quiet down. I find all of Cloon Keen’s scents difficult to dislike as they are all quite tastefully done. I wish the iris was played up in this, it would be more interesting for me. On my husband’s skin, this smells so dapper and green. On me it’s a little too ladylike and boring, very heavy with white musk. So it does depend on skin chemistry. 3 out of 5.

The brand is good at naming their fragrances. All of the scents are exactly depicting what the name suggests. The fragrance itself is very well balanced and I couldn't pick up a particular note. When I smell it, I smell of moonlight gently touching a frosted world but it's not icy nor cold. There is a hint of warmness at the background making it cosy and soothing.

Unfortunately, even though I love the smell I can barely feel it even when my nose is close to skin. It's earthy, dusty and beautiful, you can feel the carrot seed. But that's it, the smell dissappears in not even an hour, at least on my skin. I have test it for 2 days.

On me it starts off gin and tonic, then goes straight to tobacco. If you get your inspiration down the pub, then this is for you. Actually, I quite like it!

This company is something else - each and every scent is quality and worth experiencing. I sent off to Les Senteurs in London for samples and, similar to a wine tasting, relished the experience of applying, sniffing and comparing their fragrances. Frosted Moon is beautifully dusty and dry. I agree there’s a strong tobacco vibe from this at first until a dewy creamy sweetness starts to surface. I wasn’t getting the Chanel 19 vibe initially until the Galbanum started to sing and now it’s entirely obvious and very classy indeed. This is an olfactory work of art and I would encourage anyone fascinated by fragrance to try this for the delight of experiencing a level of expertise and artistry that is rare in this field. For me, I can’t get past the tobacco element quickly enough for this to become mine but if you like an element of smokiness and green-ness then this is world class. Even if this isn’t your vibe it’s worth sending for a sample simply for the experience of smelling it.

If you like a cool, green scent, then you will enjoy this. It is nicely blended and nicely measured - not so green it could disinfect and musks to round things out. I am not a bit galbanum fan so this hit the wrong type of lunar creation for me. Also, my husband wears Jasmin Angélique and that cool, green angelica note in both is quite similar. I was far more excited by Clook Keen's other samples, so this has been a pass for me, but will be worth it if you are still looking for another calibration along the Chanel 19, Iris Prima, Jasmin Angélique continuum.

To add to my previous review (can’t work out how to save an edited version) my husband very accurately described this as smelling like Lapsang Souchong so I’d say it’s smoke rather than tobacco that’s detectable. If the idea of Lapsang and Chanel 19 combined appeals to you this could be your perfect oerfume!

Ethereal moonlight kisses frosted grass, sparkles of ice shards piercing beneath winter’s mantle to vetiver’s welcoming earthiness: spring’s bulbs warmly cocooned.

"Tactics" by Shiseido and then "White" by Lalique? My partner finds it "icy" in a good way...
