Dandelion Butter

Ever since spraying my sample my nose has been practically glued to my wrist. Something I love about (my experience anyway) with all of Clue's scents is that they are straightforward in that every note listed is clearly articulated and present. Behind that, it feels like there is infinite depth to the story and memories they unlock. So it's hard to write about wearing a Clue scent without bringing very specific history into it, and that's beautiful! I was born in Ohio and my family on both sides are from the Midwest. I spent countless days, especially in the summer, sitting, lying, and rolling around on my grandparents' lawn. What summer is - what this season looks and feels and smells like in America - is permanently set to the Midwest in my mind. The creamy, rich grassiness of Dandelion Butter immediately brought those days back. There isn't the sense of the green notes happening separate from the butter, the pollen. Clue is always a strong sense memory happening all at once. I've never played the Dandelion Butter (or other names it goes by) game where you hold up a dandelion to someone's chin and rub it in if there's no yellow reflection, but when I told my mom the name of this scent she said, "Oh! Like the game!" So that's three generations of Midwestern memories already. I call my very blonde toddler a buzza bee, a silly pet name that evolved from who knows what - his honey colored hair at birth, the bee rattle he used to have, and so many other moments of nonsense baby talk. I've called him a dandelion as his hair lightened and grew into an impossibly soft mop. The pollen and skin notes of Dandelion Butter are, therefore, connected to him for me. Your experience and story will be different but I bet Dandelion Butter will still smell amazing on you.

One thing I forget and highly recommend is the first few sprays of a new bottle, do them outside. The reason being that whatever scent you are about to smell, that perfume thats kind of already been "pumped" into the sprayer will not bloom the way the rest of the scent will. So on the first sprays of this fragrance all I got was 100% stem. By the next day this had greatly improved. The best way to describe this is if your grocery store had the butter section right next to the floral department. In the best possible way. Initially you are hit with this sunny dandelion note. If you haven't smelled on in a while its like a gently sweet floral smell that leans more green than powdery like many other flowers. It's extremely light and fleeting just like Dandelions are. It then transitions into a milky sap scent. Lactonic green is the only way to describe it. And then it hits. Cold. Butter. Not room temperature, not melted, cold butter. Slightly salted. The way that it combines with the pollen and skin notes make it smell as though you were churning butter in your garden on a spring day and the oils captured all the scents onto your body. It's extremely intimate, not a beast mode fragrance. But it will keep you smelling yourself all day. It's a fantastic skin scent because it doens't smell like perfume, it smells like you living your best life outside in the sun.

I have been eagerly awaiting "Dandelion Butter | Clue Perfumery" out of curiosity to how it would smell. This is such a beautifully made, realistic, freshly picked Dandelion scent. The artistic skill that must have gone into creating this blows me away! "Dandelion Butter | Clue Perfumery" opens with a kind of fresh, sweet grassy/floral scent. It takes me back to being a young child. It’s an early spring morning, the sun is shining and I’m lying on the grass. I can smell the earth and that morning dew type of scent rising from the grass and flowers. This is definitely a fragrance that invokes happy memories and relaxing, meditative vibes. The scent progresses as it would as if you were there in the moment, picking dandelions, scoring the stems and making dandelion chains. I can smell the freshly snapped green stem, with a hint of earthiness and the smell of the pollen. There’s still a little sweetness in the background, but overall this is a very green, hyper realistic scent. The far dry down actually reminds me of Angelique Noir by Guerlain. I don’t get any milk or butter, which I’m not bothered about. I think they’ve done an incredible job to create something that smells so spot on. This is such a unique little creative masterpiece! This is something I will have to add to my collection because of the feelings and memories it brings with it. 10/10

This reminds me of impossible summers that only live in nostalgic blurs swept up by the first turnings of spring winds. It's bittersweet, intimate, and deeply personal. I'm trying to roll down hills the fastest, throwing my whole body into it, ending up with bruises and micro-cuts from the blades of grass I steamrolled. Cartwheels add to the growing dizzying spell and I look up at endless blue skies, dotted with rolling clouds. Grass-stained blue jeans and time spent collapsed in the shade of dancing trees. I find the dandelions dancing too. I blow and blow, making a wish I'd soon forget. It's quite sweaty at first if I'm being honest. Sappy and green, I can almost feel the hollow dandelion stem between my fingers and the sticky residue seeping out. This forms a beautiful personal scent bubble that lasts quite longer for such a delicate scent and lasts all day on clothes. I wouldn't say this is butter per se, but succinctly lactonic; it coats the whole fragrance and adds a silky body to it that makes this unlike anything else in this genre. I oftentimes find that most green-stemy perfume are too abrasive for my liking, so I'm happy to have finally found one that works. Not ecstatic about the price and size, but I'd rather have it than go without it.

First, it smells ALIVE. Not floral in the decorative sense, but vegetal, green, and faintly feral. The snapped stem and milky sap give you that bitter-white latex note like the smell you get when you break a weed in half and your fingers stick together. It conjures grass on bare knees for me, the faint metallic sweetness of skin, sun-warmed dirt, and the careless intimacy of being outside too long. The pollen note adds a dry, dusty warmth that bridges the green bitterness of the leaves with the yellow brightness of the flower, giving the perfume a quiet hum rather than a bloom. Then there’s the salted butter, which is where the perfume becomes quietly subversive. Butter doesn’t sweeten as much as it softens for me. Salt pulls the green notes closer to skin, turning something weedy and photorealistic into something intimate and human. It introduces a lactonic comfort without thankfully turning gourmand. For me, it’s an exceptionally safe blind buy and I genuinely struggle to see how anyone could find this scent profile objectionable. It's right up there with Carnal Flower and Fathom V in terms of photorealism. My only complaint is the 30 ml bottle and retail cost of $140 USD. I wish it was available in a 100 ml bottle <$200.

Clue is a brand that I've been desperate to get my hands on and I was finally able to get their discovery set. starting with Dandelion Butter I didn't have a very high expectations considering my previous experiences with perfumes that have butter notes, but this was a surprising and welcoming experience into buttery territory within fragrance. the opening smells how unsalted butter tastes to me, it's lactonic, creamy and only just slightly sweet, but at this stage the most prominent part is the realistic green, stemmy and grassy dandelion elements in here. they complement each other in such a delicious and playful way it's somehow flirty as well. during the dry down the greenery dials down a lot developing into a warm and slightly powdery feel which would usually be a turn off, but in here it's done in such an irresistible way that I just kept smelling my wrist during the day. while I don't think this is going into my collection it's still an impressive and interesting perfume, it feels like they somehow captured sunlight in a bottle. it lasted around 6 hours on me before turning into a skin scent and while it might be more feminine leaning this could go well on anyone. 8/10 🌼

A really pleasant green "narrative" scent from Clue. I agree with other comments about the notes being relatively simple, but I think the distinctiveness of its smell makes it appealing. I imagine tromping through a field rife with dandelions, snapping stems as I gather flowers for my floral jelly. It is a beautiful spring day with nary a cloud in the sky. The slightest bit of salty butter from my lunch is still on my hands, and it mingles with the pollen and sap of the picked flowers as i lift a bloom to my nose, and perhaps it leaves a smudge of yellow on my face. Like a perfect April day, this scent is gone too fast, and I am left missing it within maybe 2 hours. Yes, that butter note is barely there, but it is there, it's the supposed skin note I don't get. I love the bright yellow and green-ness of this scent, but it becomes maddeningly faint maddeningly quickly. Nevertheless, its dainty beauty made a quick favorite of mine.

Dandelion Butter holds a straightforward profile and delicious scent: Initial spritz is green, green, green. Fresh, watery, and vegetal - in the sense of rind and peel. Or in this case, stem and leaf. Solar notes bask throughout the opening. You're rubbing the flower between your fingers, staining them yellow and permeating your hands with a distinctive bitterness. Breaking apart the stems to make a daisy chain, it's milky and slightly sticky. All of these sensations follow you indoors after playing outside. As the fragrance melts into your skin the richness of the butter shines through. The butter at play is not salty and greasy, rather sweet and freshly churned, maybe best described as more cream-like. A beautiful concoction, brilliantly composed, and perfect sibling to Morel Map. This is for children with holistic grandmothers who questionably made them eat dandelions right out of the ground (me).

This scent reminds me of childhood, real childhood. Forget the French bebe in the white cotton dress toddling through a field of lavender. Instead, think of a grubby American kid rolling down a grass hill just to see if they can stain their pants green. Think of the kid who can’t stop exploring a loose tooth with their tongue, and who takes pleasure in the secret cloud of heat they make when they piss in the pool. This is a kid whose experience of the physical world is so direct, it’s bawdy. That’s the kind of pleasure I feel when I smell Dandelion Butter. The notes are straightforward. Fresh dandelions, crushed stems, fatty butter, and the tang of your own sweat. It’s not complicated or mysterious. But it’s addictive. It’s an invitation to go back to enjoying pleasure for pleasure’s sake. If it feels good, it IS good. Welcome to your inner child’s hedonist.

If you claim not to be getting longevity on this, I’m skeptical. I get consistent comments throughout my day and whiffs of myself just moving around. It definitely burns off its green aspects quickly, but the honeyed, buttery, and floral ones stick around. When I say “honeyed,” I don’t mean to say it smells like honey; I mean that it has a faint natural sweetness like a treat that has been honeyed! This is what gives it a pseudo-gourmand quality — the combination of fattiness and fragrant sweetness. If you’re thinking “cake,” you’re not even remotely in the ballpark. If you’re thinking “hot tea,” you’re a bit closer, but not quite. Have you ever had a boba tea with cheese foam though? That’s exactly the tone of this. Cooling, milky, smooth, fatty, floral, and fresh. A must-have for summer.

I actually totally wrote this off at first because I just sprayed it on a card as i was feeling a little overwhelmed with other scents on my skin On paper it came off very green, nice, crispy obvious dandelion with its sweet flowers and grassy stem. no salted butter though and i felt pretty confused as to how that could even work into this concoction. then I sprayed it on my skin and went about my business and noticed once it warmed up that i immediately smelled like salted butter. to the point that it made me hungry haha. i love rich salty butter so much, i bake a lot, and i could suddenly smell it clearly and it made me so happy :,) the forward greenness keeps it from being a weird thing to smell like, people just say I smell divine. went from a maybe to a full bottle real quick

Wow, this is so good. It's a very realistic green, stem/flower note, freshly picked! What I enjoy about the Clue fragrances is that they take an unusual note and mix it with something very warm and pleasant to make it wearable (for example: Warm Bulb has the dust note but mixed with warm vanilla, The Point smells ocean briney but with a sweet jasmine note). Makes them unique yet good smelling! This has that spicy green note but is blended well with the butter to make an addictive creamy note that's very comforting. Radiates off my skin a moderate amount. To the point that I can smell it around without sticking my nose into my arm. So I'd say at least arm's length. Lasts a while but not all day. But the scent is worth it! Very calming and pleasant for Spring and Summer.

the first few minutes of this is quite possibly the most special opening to a fragrance i have ever experienced. i have no idea how they bottled the smell of lying in the grass with pollen on your chin and dandelion sap on your fingers, but they did. the dry down loses a lot of that bright sappy greenness which breaks my heart just a little, but it hangs onto the milky green scent just enough for it to mesh beautifully with the creaminess that comes through, and it does balance it perfectly. on my skin it ends up sitting as a fresh, delicately creamy, and impossibly nostalgic and heart touching creation. the idealized image of childhood innocence and springtime warmth in the backyard. so so so very special

If you’ve across this fragrance searching to reconnect with childlike wonder, sun-dappled grass that has no care when you clock in or out, baking with loved ones and getting some salted butter on your freshly washed little hands...this is for you. Somehow nostalgic and modern at the same time, thanks to a laser-focused, super green opening that mellows into some creamy, hazy floral mids before a hint of salted popcorn jellybeans come in toward the end. Delicate but not weak, extremely wearable (more than I thought before buying), unique, and whimsical! What fun! My first blind buy, and what a winner—Clue is clearly one to watch (late to the party but happy to be here).

Dandelion Butter was truly a love at first sniff! I remember first smelling this at Merz Apothecary in Chicago, it was mid-fall and I made a pact to myself that I would purchase a bottle when spring was coming around the corner. And here I am now, several months later happier than ever with my Dandelion Butter. It's a stemmy, creamy, soft yellow floral concoction that dries down to the most luminous salty musk. There's something so comforting and familiar about this scent- like playing in a field of dandelions and clovers and then sitting on a picnic bench eating buttery popcorn. Very warm-weather friendly, unique but nonoffensive.

cutesy, creamy, and stemmy. i've never had a fragrance that simultaneously has a buttery element while also having very photorealistic green notes, but this one does both well. well balanced imo and very soft which i love as the months start getting warmer. it accomplishes 2 things i look for in a spring fragrance which are freshness and subtle sweetness. i think i want the full bottle. side note: my boyfriend told me this reminded him of pho and then 30 minutes later another good friend of mine hugged me and said i smelled so good. was it because i smelled like pho? i don't know, but i'll take it.

i consider this a inner child daytime scent. i describe it as a dandelion and cold butter smell. makes me feel both clean and scratch’s my love for lactonics. what every milky fig fragrance wished they had. as fun and whimsical i find this scent some of my friends have smelled it on me and have described it as a “rich person smell”. which doesn’t bother me lol. good longevity, but my pockets will cry if they never come out with any sizes bigger than 30 mls:(((. want to buy a full bottle for myself as a “once in awhile wear” but i know ill love it too much and run through it.

This is a foggy childhood summer memory in a bottle, and I'm kicking myself for not just getting a full bottle off the bat! It absolutely smells like a crushed dandelion (stem and all) and the butter element is dancing in the background but never moves into a sour or even truly lactonic territory. Something that seems to carry or conjoin the notes in the background reminds me of a lotion my mom would've worn in the late 90s. This is my first impression with Clue and I'm really impressed. Wish I could speak to longevity but I have a dabber and we know how those are, lol.

This scent is so freaking cute. Cute like when you're out on a summer day in a park and they've just cut the grass and you're eating a nice croissant and twirling a dandelion between your fingers, and there are a bunch of kids running around getting grass stains on their outfits and you're like "Oh my gosh, those kids are so cute. Was I that cute when I was a kid?" Very realistic dandelion green smell, mellowing into something more sweet and creamy with wear, but every so often, you do just get a puff of dandelion smell. Adore. Very hard to get a hold of!!!

Clean smooth green goodness that gets a dollop of sweetness from honey without any pissy notes. Its like your skin but better scent. Its light and airy. Doesn't really project but does have amazing longevity. I can still smell it 12 hours later. I put it on for work this am at 0700 and at 10pm can still gets wiffs of it especially on my clothes. Absolutely gorgeous full bottle worthy scent. Debaser is close in the opening but Debaser takes a hard left in the drydown and never really is comparable again. DB is much more decadent, airy and buttery.

A lovely, solar dandelion fragrance. Smells very green, like a bright sunny field. It's not buttery or lactonic by any means, I think the butter is there to elevate the sap note - it smells like broken dandelion stems. The florals are a gentle part of this landscape, and the pollen adds a dry complexity that elevates the perfume beyond a juvenile yellow-flower perfume. After an hour, it dries down to a very watery, fresh, skin-like scent. This is perfect for spring and summer. I'm looking forward to this perfume being restocked!

I don't usually vibe with green fragrances, but this I almost love. It's green, grassy and slightly bitter, but in a very light way. It really does smell like a dandelion plant- very summery and fresh. It also pulls a bit realistic cucumber on me, but I dont mind that. The main allure of the fragrance was butter, and I got it on the opening but I'm not sure on the skin yet. Can't wait to see. Edit: After about an hour the grassiness dies down and the scent is powdery and slightly buttery 😍 think I may update my rating.

I would honestly describe this as a masterpiece, the initial spray smells like snapping a dandelion stem in half and smelling it, in the most sparkly, refreshing and invigorating way possible. So photorealistic yet in a way that I love despite not loving green scents. There’s just something so bright and uplifting about this. Then the dry down is where the ‘butter’ comes in as the scent softens into something beautifully wearable, slightly lactonic and very comforting. A mood-boosting scent for sure!!!

This is radiant and pretty. On my skin it pulls green and milky almost. It's sappy and a little salty, smooth and doesn't feel like its sitting unnaturally on top my skin. It feels like spring playing outside in a bottle, and it's so sweet, but not in a childish or corn syrup way. It's sweet the way those flowers that you break open and lick the sweet water as kids are. If i didnt have a daytime warm fragrance i'd buy a decant and see if its worth going full bottle because i really like it.

This is my favorite from Clue. I almost don't even have words. This transports me back to childhood in a way i've never experienced in any other fragrance. That immediate green and dandelion feel like a shot in the arm. It's satisfying to me in a way no other perfume can be. This has quickly become my signature scent and i'm always getting complimented on it. It dries into a delicious lactonic and buttery feel that makes me just want to crawl into the bottle and live in it. 1000000/10.

Green, slightly bitter opening. But not enough to scare you away.. It's very realistic of the plucked stem of a dandelion. The magic is in the drydown. Wow.. within a few mins it turns into the most pretty creamy, buttery, floral. I do get a little bit of the fig-like note that others have mentioned. That doesn't bother me since I love fig in perfume. But it's for sure a buttery sweet floral. I can't stop smelling my hand where I've sprayed it. A springtime favorite for sure.

i've never smelled a perfume that has instantly transported me to a memory and a feeling... sunny, nostalgia of being outside in the spring and young and in the produce section of a grocery store. honestly such an emotional scent and experience. the greenness fades faster than I would like, and i was hesitant about the creamy dry down that comes after, but a few hours later and i'm liking it more. a must buy because i've never smelled something so unique and emotional!!

this is such a summer scent to me reminds me of freshly mowed grass and snapped dandelion stems and skidding your knees on the dirt during a bright, fragrant summer day. very fresh and green with a bit of a spice kick to it. I honestly don't really recognize a butter note in here, however maybe it's in there toning down the florals a bit because there is a light milky sweetness in the background to it. I love this and will definitely be reaching to it all summer long!!

Look this is a lovely scent. I get all the notes and enjoy it very much. However it’s very soft and has almost no projection. Now let’s talk price. When I ordered this fragrance I assumed it was a 50ml. I know stupid me. I was surprised when I received it and it was only 30ml. Basically a glorified travel size. $140 for 30mls is pricing this into luxury category. Higher per ml than my precious Dries Van Noten and even Guerlain. That’s insane. Come on Clue. Get a clue.

A truly beautifully crafted olfactory experience. Very pleasing and complex. When first applied, very green and bright like a sappy broken stem, fresh cut grass. After about 20 minutes, it melts into something much warmer, salted butter, honey, vanilla. Not overly sweet at all, which makes this a really nice & comforting unisex scent. My favorite fragrance at the moment it makes me so happy. The only problem is that it's not as long-lasting as I would hope.

The first time I tried this, I was disappointed. I don’t know what I was expecting, but I was underwhelmed, I put the sample in a drawer and recently found it while spring cleaning. I sprayed it again and I am OBSESSED! I am not a fan of yellow florals but the green/lactonic notes make this magic. I am bummed my coupon from the samples expired but I am still considering the investment. There’s nothing like this other than the real deal in your backyard!

Absolutely stunning. Beautiful grassy and soft green note in the opening that reminds me of the opening of Zoologist's Cow. However, while the latter moves into a shampoo-y mix of florals that feel screechy as it dries down, Dandelion Butter melts softly into slightly salty, creamy butter. My tiny perfume collection now includes two Clue full bottles that are my pride and joy. Clue is an absolute disruptor in the perfume space and I'm so here for it.

This smells like summer camp to me. I grew up in a hot place so sitting on the cold grass in the shade making dandelion crowns was my favorite part of the day. There's enough butter and sweetness to round this out. I'm not a fresh fragrance type of person typically, but this warms up into a beautiful sweet milky dandelion. I've found it's best to wear on hot days but you do need to reapply often. This fragrance is gorgeous and incredibly unique.

I can’t stop smelling this fragrance, I’m OBSESSED. It’s much greener on my skin than on fabric (clothing, pillowcases) which is interesting. Eventually, it still dries down warmer and more floral with the buttery scent I want to disappear into. From the first spray when I got the sample, I knew this would be one I ended up buying a full bottle of. It makes me feel happy and I’ve received multiple compliments when wearing it on bike rides. 10/10

i love this. opening is very green and stemmy, and there is a sort of natural sweetness in the dry down. beautiful and ephemeral, deeply nostalgic and special. conjures a manifold of memories relating to childhood. while this is very whimsical and special, it is worth noting that the dry down of this is VERY similar to stora skuggan’s monkeyflower. since i own monkeyflower, i would not upgrade this just yet. but again, it’s absolutely amazing

Dandelion butter is a warm embrace from childhood in a fragrance. The perfume opens with that green freshly snapped stem smell, squished greenery, and grass-stained skin, and then gently transforms into a wonderfully buttery+creamy ending. Truly is such a nostalgic smell of memories on the playground playing on the grass surrounded by those who you love. As it dries down it remains green and buttery as before, but more cohesive and mellow.

I blind bought this and am so glad I did. I love lactonic scents but a lot of them go sour on me— this does not. It stays gorgeously buttery and figgy, without being too sweet (I would disagree that that’s its main feature). I held my friend’s baby and when I handed her back she asked “why does the baby smell so good?” Definitely a spring/summer scent, it almost feels like it needs to be activated by the sun.

Bitter off the top just like a crushed dandelion. The bitterness fades after a couple minutes and then sap comes through and begins to warm up. Dries down to a nice soft butter/pollen smell. I'd say longevity is ~3-4hrs at most. Wish it lasted longer, but the journey is nostalgic and true to the note table. Can't really fault it when it delivers on this level! ☀️💚

this actually smelled exactly like i predicted it to, just weaker longevity than expected. it's the perfect blend of green, lactonic, and skin notes. i've seen a lot of people saying they don't get any butter/lactonicness but for me that was not the case! Debaser is the cool older sister and Dandelion Butter is the sweet, youthful, sunshiney little sister

If you’ve ever endured a long, dark, bitterly cold winter and then stepped outside on the first mild, bright, sunny day of early spring and immediately thought to yourself, “I need a crush—the kind of crush that makes me feel like an emotionally promiscuous high-schooler again—and I need it NOW,” then you know how it feels to wear Dandelion Butter.

Wow! Lovely green notes dancing over a slightly salted sap. While I do wish there was a more la tonic buttery note to this, I really enjoy what is here nonetheless. It is wonderfully wearable and fresh and ready for any spring day. It is not terribly offputting, but you will smell a bit like pollen. And yes, it does smell like Debaser.

Super green and realistic dandelion at first, then settles down to a very clean and wearable soft green scent. I only got a sample so didn't have enough to play around but it seems to stick around better on clothes but also stays green for longer. I tried this on an Australian winter day then did some gardening and it suited perfectly.

I had to wait to get my order until after the summer was over, so I was testing it as the leaves were turning. it's a photo-realistic dandelion, which is really lovely and sharp green and creamy yellow. I have enjoyed wearing it in the fall, despite its obvious inclination towards spring/summer; the green comes out in a lovely way.

What a wonderful fragrance, what a wonderful world to quote Louis Armstrong! This is so realistic you won’t believe your nose! Unfortunately, it is very expensive so it’s one of those that I just have to buy small bottles of every six months because I can’t live without this fragrance. It’s so real! And so beautiful!

Does exactly what it’s supposed to on my skin I feel so bad for everyone who can’t get the beauty that is this salty buttery savoury green fragrance on SKIN. This is a skin fragrance not a test strip fragrance and it’s bright and wonderful I might night the bullet and get a full one if I can’t find a 10ml decant

Smells almost like a 00s juice bar in the best way possible. Specifically one that does an apple, celery, and ginger juice and calls it “apple, celery, and ginger juice”. Not sharp though! Slightly milky. Playful and refreshing. This might be my favourite one from Clue yet...craving freshly blitzed juice now...

What a spunky fragrance! It smells like a literal dandelion flower. The sap/broken stem notes are also strong. It takes me back to being a little girl and how I very much was an “outside kid.” I loved picking dandelions. I do pick up on the butter notes as it dries down. This is such a fun scent. ^__^

I think about this everytime the gardeners come around school or I’m plucking flowers on my way back to my dorm but it’s so expensive I can’t even justify it right now so going outside and grinding dandelions between my fingers will have to do for now. I love it so much I might buy another 2ml tester

Beautiful with so much life to it. An incredible scent for spring and summer. You get every bit of the greenery but not in a way that is overpowering. It melds amazingly with the butter, creating a scent that is soooo lovely on the skin. I smell this and am reminded that sunny days are ahead.

Everything about this scent is fun; from the bottle and label design, to the scent name and to the scent profile— a fresh green scent. All while being very natural and easy to wear. The only thing I don’t like is the price.$140 for 30 ml is a big ask. Still I am voting “Love” on this cutie.
