Coach Poppy

Sweet, aquatic, floral, ozonic, powdery, citrusy, vanilla, white floral, green, woody, radiant, feminine, sensual, flirty, playful, charming, whimsical, delightful, cheerful, uplifting, alluring, tempting, addictive, inviting, cozy, comforting On me this opens with refreshing cucumber, citrusy mandarin orange, and the softly spicy scent of freesia. As it starts drying down it grows sweeter and more floral with crème brûlée, aquatic water lily, and just a whisper of candied rose petals, sweet gardenia, and lush jasmine. The dry down envelopes you with a slightly more gourmand vibe with sweet and fluffy marshmallows, sensual and powdery vanilla, creamy sandalwood, and a soft scent of sweetly woody Virginia cedar. I got this right around the time that it first launched, and I really loved it! It actually became my signature scent for some years! I still wear it to this day! Around the same time I also got the OG Juicy Couture Viva La Juicy, and to me they’re always reminiscent of each other for that reason as well as both being sweet fruity florals with more complexity than the VS and BBW mists that I wore a lot during that period. I find it kind of funny that one of the reasons Coach Poppy was so intriguing to me, and that I had to have it was because it had a marshmallow note in it. To this day marshmallow is still one of my favorite perfume notes! I wouldn’t exactly call this a marshmallow perfume, but I definitely get the marshmallow note in it The OG Poppy was actually one of my early signature scents. Not only did it make me fall in love with Coach fragrances, but helped start me into a deeper love of fragrances in general. As for my love of Coach perfumes, I also own and love Coach Legacy, Coach Coach, Coach Poppy, Poppy Blossom, Poppy Wild Flower, Coach Love, Coach Dreams Starlight, and Coach Dreams Sunset (I’d love to try the Coach Dreams Moonlight version!). I still have this in the OG formula, and get great performance with it. The longevity is in the stronger side, it lasts 7+ hours on my skin. When I was younger, I bought a bunch of stuff at a garage sale, and the owner was so pleased that I unloaded so much of their unwanted stuff. They ran into their house, came back, and offered me a half full bottle of Coach Poppy. They told me that it wasn't their cup of tea, and asked if I liked fragrances. I gladly accepted and cherished that bottle, which they gave me on the house. Maybe I love this so much because of the memory associated with it, however, it is a really good fragrance. I can't comment on the newer batches, since I only have the older batches. Apparently, there's been some confusion surrounding the re-packaging. Some people will swear up and down that the smooth capped bottle with the pink liquid and plain red box packaging is fake, while others say that it's been re-formulated and re-released. Many swear that it's still discontinued, however, I see many reputable places such as TJ Maxx, FragranceNet, and many others carrying this. FragranceNet has it listed as "new packaging", so I'm guessing that it's been re-released and possibly reformulated. Don't quote me on that, though. I have a few backup bottles of the ones with textured graffiti caps, with older batch codes, and haven't tried the newer ones. To me, this is such an elegant floral gourmand. I know that some people might call it young or basic, but I don't feel that at all. It's light, floral, and sweet. On my skin, it's straight up florals and candy. I know that there are several perfumes that try to do floral and sweet, but in my opinion, this one just gets it right. It lasts quite a long while on me but doesn't project really loudly. I wouldn't say that it's a skin scent on me, since it does create a scent bubble, but it doesn't fill the entire room, either. It's so feminine, so timeless, and seems to be both young and mature at the same time. It's an easy reach for me and used to be my signature scent. I now have 100+ bottles in my collection, and have sampled hundreds of fragrances over the years, but I still love this one. Definitely has a place in my heart. Plus, objectively (nostalgia aside), I think it just smells really good.

Coach Poppy absolutely stole my heart when it was released in 2010! I was 22 and looking for a signature fragrance as I was just starting to get more into fragrances! I smelled it in an advertisement in a magazine and I just HAD to have it! I got it for Christmas and fell hard for it... it immediately became my signature fragrance! To this day I still have it, love it, and wear it! It’s such a pretty, sweet, feminine and flirty fruity floral! The creme brûlée, marshmallow, vanilla, sandalwood, cedar, gardenia, freesia, mandarin orange, and cucumber notes are what stand out to me the most! It’s a somewhat unique mixture of sugary sweet scents, soft white florals, and with a touch of freshness! Very lovely and pleasant! An easy fragrance to reach for, works well throughout all of the seasons, and a great choice for a signature fragrance! I typically get great longevity with fragrances (even body mists!) and Coach Poppy is no exception! It lasts all day on me and I can even still smell it on me the next morning! The silage is really good too! It radiates out about an arm’s length! This beauty will always have a place in my collection as well as in my heart! I still have backup bottles because I don’t ever want to run out of my original signature fragrance! It’s definitely a nostalgic scent for me, but it’s still very beautiful overall! I also just wanted to mention that I’m a big fan of Coach fragrances! Besides Coach Poppy I also own and love Poppy Blossom, Poppy Wildflower, Love (the 2012 version), Legacy, Coach (the Fragrance/Signature), and Coach Dreams Sunset!

Finally reviewing this perfume 5 years after I bought it, I have the limited edition gold bottle which I bought at Macy's for around $100 for the 100ml in fall 2012. I will say I prefer the original Poppy over Poppy flower, and in 2012 my first year of perfume this was one of the first 50 perfumes I bought, also was given a lot of samples in 2012 of Poppy, and Poppy Flower. My Poppy batch code is A72 was made in July 2012 ( checkcosmetics.net ), and is still good, and hasn't turned at all. Poppy is sweet without being " too sweet " that's why I like this perfume. If your nose isn't trained it's really hard to tell what notes you are smelling. What I smell is a marshmallow candy like cucumber mix the most, I also smell the cedar come through as well before dry down, I smell a slight freesia, vanilla and mandarin as well, this perfume was done really well in my opinion. I never really wore this perfume over the years, because as I have got older ( I was 21 when I bought this perfume, 26 now ) sweet perfumes don't really appeal to me anymore, I like fragrances with more depth. Also I think Angel Dream is closer to Coach Poppy than the original Angel by Victoria's Secret. The best time to wear Poppy is in the daytime in Spring, and Summer. Overall I give Poppy a 7/10.

I can't explain which note it is in this perfume, but I haven't gotten it with anything else. Which actually drives me a little crazy because I've searched out fragrances by similar notes and I can't find it! Not that I haven't found some nice fragrances, but there's this one sweet note that's also fruity? Argh, I just can't figure it out! It's what drew me to the fragrance in the first place, it was just so different and amazing than anything else in the tester isle. So I don't know if it's a combination that was just combined really well or what they did but it's amazing. I always go back to it as my favorite, but I tend to use it sparingly so I don't over use it. I tend to think of it as a fruity floral gourmand, because I get ALL of that. I get fruity, I get a hint of floral and I get the crème brulee, which I consider gourmand, maybe not. It works for me and I just love it. My guess would be those who aren't into sweet wouldn't like it that well, plus I tend to like the sweet sweet ones, so it could be too sweet for some. But it's got depth and it's certainly not a boring sweet.
