Lemon No.1999

This is a beautifully fresh, musky sweet and sour lemon fragrance. At first spritz you get a very zingy lemony aroma. It smells authentic, invigorating, and bright in the beginning. A bit like bitter rind, a bit like pulp sprinkled lightly with sugar. Next it moves into a phase where it reminds me of a lemon pez, or a lemon flavored shaved ice at the fair. As it dries down it gains this lovely soft musky aroma. It really smooths out. You still, however, get good hints of that intial zesty lemon note throughout. Hovers around you like a gorgeous puffy lemony cloud. My absolute favorite lemon scent - and so affordable. The sillage and lasting power are both quite pleasing. Sweet and zesty, smooth and musky. A pretty lemon that works fabulously in the heat. Lemon lovers - TRY IT.

Love this scent! My favorite Lemon scent ever-- I'm very sad that C.O. Bigelow has it currently on hold. I called their company in June 2020 to inquire about the fragrance and they did give me encouraging news: they said they were working with a new distributor and to check back with them in late August or September when it should be released again! I hope they don't change it as it was perfect the way it was! Edit 3/28/22- should have edited this sooner- Bigelow has been selling this wonderful scent again for over a year now and to me it is still as great as it always was- I bought a bunch of back up bottles as I never want to be without this in case they discontinue it sometime. I'm a citrus snob. I grew up with multiple types of citrus trees in my front and back yard, and having fresh citrus ruins you because no imitation is up to par. But this... This. Is. A. Lemon. MASTERPIECE! To me, no part of this is a "lemon cleaner" - it's hyper-realistic, whole lemon. Refreshing, just-cut lemon zest. Tart lemon juice (no sugar - pure lemon), fresh-squeezed. Sun-kissed lemon rind, a little too ripe... making it bright with a hint of sweet. It's tart, it's a little bitter. But it's REAL lemon. This is now my lemon holy grail. I can't wait to wear it as a fragrance "thirst-quencher" for summer, something to brighten up a dreary winter day, etc. Thank you, C.O. Bigelow!!

Love this lemon smell! In the bottle a little bit on the creamy end of lemon--like lemon bars, maybe? Not the bitey smell of straight lemon juice or the volatile oils from the rind. My chemistry tends to strip out the fruity smells form perfume quickly (ate up Hanae Mori Butterfly completely). Lemon No 1999 becomes this phantom floral on me. Without the stickiness of orange blossom, there's a clean feeling from that touch of musk. I keep it my fridge and some days it just a 5 full spritz days (neck, decolletage, back of the neck under the hair and both wrists/elbows--it's not a precision spray). Even with this hyper application, it's not overwhelming at all. Very close to the skin.

Lemon No.1999 by C.O.Bigelow is a simple, crisp lemon scent. It has a touch of powdery softness and a slight sweetness. It's very feminine, but not a voluptuous seductive feminine. Lemon No. 1999 is a refreshing delight (for me) to wear. The best lemon fragrance that I have ever owned and worn was Love's Fresh Lemon when it first came out in the 1970s. It is now owned by a different company and it's terrible. Perfumes come and go. I suggest if you really love a fragrance, buy a few bottles because you never know when it will be yanked off the market ... only to be a sweet lingering memory. One more note -- this perfume is very reasonably priced for such a good scent.

Just got this and it is a very happy, bright lemon scent. It is a burst of juicy, realistic lemon that mellows pretty quick. There is no headache inducing Pledge scent. It is a straight just cut a lemon scent that remains that way. It does not last very long but at the price it is I still consider it a steal. I plan to layer this with Akro Bake and try it with other summer fragrances to see how it performs. Perhaps layering it with the Bigelow lemon 1999 moisturizer or another lemon scented lotion would aid the lasting power. Just get it if you are looking for a realistic lemon scent.

This is a lovely lemon and musk perfume. It smells very fresh and natural, and it wears close to the skin. However, the lemon fades almost immediately on me, and the soft musk comes out just about right away. It's a pretty, soft musk scent, but I wish this stayed lemony. My husband uses this and it smells musky on him as well.

if you want a real lemon scent, not cleaning product smell, this is it. As others have said, the lemon scent doesn't last very long,and I agree, but then you can smell a bit of musk - no complaints here. This is a lovely, refreshing summer scent, which is totally inoffensive. Try it. The price is right, too.

Pure fresh cut lemons with a touch of sweetness. Not tart or chemical, no household cleaner smell. The staying power could be better. But, it's fresh and clean, light enough to wear everyday or layered with other fragrances.

Absolutely delicious. I was on the hunt for a pure lemony scent and I found this. However, this doesn't last very long, an hour or two tops. It would be good to make a decant to carry around with you to respray.

This is the perfect lemon scent just doesnt last or project last only like 5 min nothing sadly ...i love this tho🍋

Smells like lemonade! It's so good, and the scent is very clean. I wear it most days and for summertime.

I love this fragrance. I have been wanting a bottle for years now, and just got it in the mail today. Lemon 1999 is pure lemon. When I spray it on at first, it's like I squirted a fresh lemon on my wrist. It's refreshing and invigorating without smelling like bathroom cleanser. But the dry down is my favorite part. It keeps the lemon smell, but softens and becomes almost creamy, like a lemon bar. It's still clean and fresh, but adds depth to the pure lemon juice from before. It's a wonderful scent. After almost 2 hours I still get whiffs of it as I walk. However, it also stays close to the skin, which I prefer. I like not having a large cloud of scent follow me wherever I go. I'd much rather have the scent noticed only if I'm standing close to someone or hugging someone. So lovely. Definitely a staple to my collection.

It's amazing what they can add to lemon to change its character but not lose the lemon-ness of it. This one is powerful and a distinctively fresh lemon but has something else going on that gives it authority. I think the staying power is pretty remarkable. Of course that initial fresh citrus burst fades but the rest goes on and on. Isn't this pretty much standard with citrus scents, that zesty note fades first? Love the no-nonsense heavy glass bottle that doesn't try to be anything but what it is, a good servicable container for a quality perfume...and love the price, too.

I have never smelled this in the past, so I have no idea if it smelled different before. But in the opening, I get a semi-sweet and natural smelling lemon that quickly transitions into a delicious and fairly sweet candied lemon. It smells just like a Lemonhead in the drydown. Projection and sillage are minimal, which is expected with a citrus-dominated fragrance, so no complaints there. This is perfect for a refreshing bedtime scent or for layering - I like this one layered with a heavy dose of Molecule 01 or layered with Mancera Lemon Line (my favorite lemon).

This is a great scent to LAYER. That is, the lemon note smells like verbena, like a lemon has just been zested. This note doesn't have much longevity, which is why you want to layer it. I enjoy it layered with vanilla (I layer with Montale Vanille Absolu or Mancera Roses Vanille or with Vanille Insensee) for a bright yet warm mood lifter for winter and fall. The addition of vanilla keeps me out of Pledge Cleaner territory. Really bright and alive... and you can't beat the price at Bath & Body Works with your 20% coupons, etc!

So light, crisp, feminine, and pretty! This is a go-to casual fragrance for me. The opening is bright, crisp, vibrant lemon with slight herbal note. It dries down as a mildly citrus, soft, herbal musk on my skin that is just beautiful. The only downside is silage - 1999 is very much a skin scent after dry-down, definitely not a head-turner. Still, it's a joy to wear and the price is great! I would buy this again.

A refreshing true lemon scent, smells like fresh grated lemon zest. This is such a pure singularly note that I don’t think it leans feminine or masculine. Nothing artificial or sweet just fresh and light I mostly use this to layer with other fragrances to bring out the citrus notes. It’s a linear super simplistic fragrance. This performs like a EDT doesn’t last long unfortunately but for what it is I don’t mind.

At first a clean fresh realistic lemon scent. It does dry down to a warm light musk on me which I was not expecting to come through as much for reason due to the “lemon” image of the scent. It’s lovely and smells like a more niche subtler version of D&G Light Blue. Very pleasantly surprised by the musk note after dry down that remains like a skin scent. Smells personal and soft.

It doesn’t start all that bright and cheerful but suddenly it turns into a happy, vibrant and real lemon with just a bit of soapiness. Sillage is medium, not quite skin scent but also doesn’t radiate much. Longevity is alright for a cologne, last a bit longer than any 4711. A perfect fragrance for summer.

the perfect smell of sweet meyer lemons. its not bitter, not acidic, not tart....just a hint of sweet....it truly is that delicious meyer lemon smell. (FYI: it has NO/ZERO smell of soap, mr clean or furniture polish at all) downside...does NOT last more than 30 min tops!! too bad because it's beautiful.

Bakers and cocktail enthusiasts who’ve made their own lemon sugar by infusing wide slices of fresh lemon zest in caster sugar will know this smell. Sweet, fragrant oil absorbed into dry sugar. Citron, but with no loss of brightness to heat. It’s simple and lovely.

The lemon note is amazing, but as everyone else has pointed out, quite ephemeral. After a good 30 minutes, you're hard-pressed to detect it on your skin or clothes. Shame. Given that and the steep pricepoint, it's not worth it.

A blast of lemon, so refreshing and juicy. I got it to layer with other perfumes, but it is very nice on its own.

Excellent for men who want to add a hint of citrus to their cologne of choice.

I've had a lemon body cream from C.O Bigelow and it was perfect. Later I got a decanted sample of this fragrance before they stopped making it a few years ago. I clearly remember this as an unsweetened lemon perfume. The lemon note would disappear quickly and then there was just musk left. I bought a bottle after they relaunched it and now it's definitely a long lasting sugared lemon fragrance. I'm guessing they brought it back reformulated? Unfortunately, I like it less now since I find it too sweet and not as musky as it used to be.

bought a full bottle of this cause it was so cheap and there was no way to sample it but I regret it. it doesn’t smell like the soap or lotion with the sharp realistic lemon note. this is just clean fresh in a grandma’s bathroom kind of way. it’s not terrible I just don’t want to wear it :/

I have this & what really makes it pop for me is the quality cream bodywash & super thick top notch quality hand soap I that lathers more than any other soap I’ve seen This fragrance itself is just a nice finishing touch! It doesn’t smell like any chemical cleaner & it’s not sweet or candy like..just photorealistic lemon..That’s it! The end. Again not really worth having unless you have all three, & possibly a can of body spray which I don’t have. This is from those stores in the mall that sell nothing but body sprays & lotions & air fresheners etc & are very inexpensive But the men’s fragrance bottles have are in nice thick glass bottles & known for having good atomizers...

For those wanting a BBW accompaniment to Lemon No. 1999, try Sparkling limoncello. At one point, there was a partnership between Bath & Body Works and C.O. Bigelow. Perhaps they were owned by the same corporate conglomerate and still might be. Either way, the edp version of BBW's Sparkling limoncello is C.O. Bigelow's Lemon No. 1999 and vice versa. To make the overall effect a wee bit more herbaceous and as a consequence a tad more sophisticated? I like to layer YSL's Baby Doll with it. Lemon, basil, mint---a very herbaceous green refreshing effect without the bitterness of say vintage "O" by Lancome.

This is my favorite lemon scent. This is simple, made a little more special with a hint of musk. It's often difficult to find a good lemon scent that isn't astringent, or be too gourmand and sugary. When these were at Bath & Body Works, I bought it, went through one bottle, and am on my second, and bought a couple of backups, just in case it goes bye-bye or any reformulations change what I like about it. Thank goodness for sales and coupons. The only other lemon-related scent that I love and have backups for is Pacifica Malibu Lemon Blossom, which does indeed smell like lemon blossoms on the bush.

Bargain priced Edition Blanch, but don't be mistaken. I'm not saying the quality of this is poor my any means. Fresh, vibrant, and a subtle creamy. Casual, but quality. Not powdery in the dry down, stays clean and linear. And I layer it with the lotion and body wash for longevity. I really enjoy this....more so then Edition Blanche even (hides in fear) which has a hint a cleaning product smell to it (runs for cover)

Best pure lemon scent EVER! Smells like real lemons. I have loved lemon fragrances since I was a kid wearing "Love's Fresh Lemon". I never found another that smelled that lemony, like real lemons....until this one. Sometimes I want just PURE LEMON and nothing else but they always seem to throw something else in there. This is all about the lemon and nothing else. If you are a lemon fan, this is a must try.

I have used Lemon 1999 on and off for many years. I love lemon scents and this one is a straight up no chaser type of lemon scent. I really don't smell much of anything but lemons here. The dry down is a bit musky but still lemony! These days I usually add a layer of Lemon 1999 to something else to give it a bit more punch. Over all a very good scent with good projection and ok lasting power.

I have been trying to find a perfume that works for me for a while, and this is definitely it! It fresh lemon and a bit creamy vanilla. It was only $34 for a 3.4 oz bottle which I was quite happy about. I've always loved lemon scents but was unable to find a perfume to match my tastes. The only thing about this fragrance is I wish it was a bit stronger. But it is an easy everyday scent.

Get the body butter/cream, NOT the perfume. The cream in the jar has a slightly sweet, almost edible lemon smell with a hint of baked good, like a lemon bar. Yummy. The perfume is sharp, not sweet, and smells more like lemon cleaning product than it does the body cream. It might work to layer the perfume with a sweet/sugary or vanilla perfume to remove the sharp edge.

light and lemony: very simple. I don't get a lot of musk or anything else. I bought it b/c I love Bigelow's lemon body cream--it's one of my favorite smells. But I would just stick to the body cream in the future. The fragrance is better (rounder?) and it's moisturizing!

Lemon drop martini with a sugar rim!!! to my nose similar dior homme cologne. get the lotion so it can last longer

Lightest "Eau De Parfum" I've ever purchased. This should be called a body mist not even a cologne.

I love this as a layering scent. I wear this with outremer’s vanille for a lemon cake scent.
