Taxi

I sampled this after reading shamus1 blog post about it while buying some other cologne at a local discount perfume shop. Out of all the scent samples I hade along my arm this one really spoke to me. I went back a few weeks later to pick up a bottle and was very happy I did. Shamus1 is right Oak Moss extract is listed as an ingredient right on the side of the box. Also there is a herbal blast that to my untrained nose seems to be Juniper as well. I do think the pyramid is still relavent as I do smell a light nutmeg and anise sweetness tucked in the background. To me this make the fragrance as it plays beautifully with the slightly soapy musk at time smelling like Irish Springs soap at stages. The scent really changes gears beautifully along it's dry down from herbal juniper bergamot and lavender to a soapy slightly sweet musk and creamy sandalwood/musk base. It's quickly become a favorite of mine. This is no way smells cheap and indeed it is VERY cheap. I've read some negative comments but can't imagine anyone disliking this scent. I wonder if it's being confused with the similarly named but different Taxi NY by Cofinluxe? It's a nice and clean fresh fragrance that still has enough body to seem substantial. A really great all season fragrance I could easily see becoming a signature scent. Lastly something needs to be said about the terrible bottle and packaging and theme. Just so cheap and hideous looking. You'd think it was an air fresher for a fleet of taxis or something. Ugly bottle, cheap plastic cap and horrible spray nozzle. What marketing department came up with this? It's a real shame because I think Mark Buxton banged out a really stellar scent here.

Just got this fragrance TAXI... WOW, I am really impressed! This is a warm mellow green barber shop scent. I can see the comparison with Drakkar Noir in the top... Pine... just for a few minutes... not listed in the notes... just smoother and a bit softer, not as complex. The comparison with Rive Gauche PH is its complexity, going through through the transition with the spiced shaving cream vibe of anise and bergamot. I personally get a soapy/clean feeling just out of the shower. There is a warmth here! Almost Dark. A comfort scent maybe from the slight sweetness of the lavender flower, fern & fir vibe, and anise mix. In the dry down you start to get a touch of musk and tobacco peaking through. I find this fragrance to be well blended and a pleasure to wear! Not dated at all, just fresh and dark, maybe a slight creamy Irish Spring from the fern & fir vibe I get... maybe it's oakmoss causing this? which is not listed either... If you've ever smelled Patrick from Fragrances of Ireland... that's the freshness. I can't list what it smells like in the listing at the top because it's as if you mixed a softer Drakkar Noir & Rive Gauche pour Homme & Patrick together... I decided to list 2 of them anyway... Ya, For what I paid for this TAXI from Cofinluxe fragrance of $8 shipped on EBAY... NO BRAINER!.. I would have paid much more! Mark Buxton was the nose behind this creation which he's done some great things in the Comme des Garcons House which is considered niche level perfumery! A true GEM... A sleeper scent... Great addition to my collection!

Bingo! I have bought Taxi blind based on the reviews and it is as good as you say - thanks. The best part is the opening with the prominent animalistic amber on top of lavender and aromatics I cannot separate. It settles to a bright musk and ends woody. This description does no justice: every sniff of every stage is different. As my nose fills with the main note, the next one becomes noticable, then the next under it until I get to the faint nutmeg at the bottom. To me Taxi is more similar to Horizon than Drakkar Noir and I do not get any mint. No soap, either. Spices stay in the background, just the way I like it. Reading the reviews it seems Taxi has a secret ingredient that everyone percieves as their favourite note. Truly a masterpiece and a steal at these prices.

I can appreciate why Taxi is compared to Drakkar Noir. There are definite similarities in the opening. During the dry down I get lavender, mint and spices before it settles back to a woody mossy skin scent with some spices – I find nutmeg and ginger coming forward over the earthy base. The themed packaging is dreadful to my eyes. The black bottle has a basket weave effect picking up the chequered background from the label. Classy it ain't and the tackiness is in contrast with the sophistication of the fragrance. A marketing fail! I paid £10 plus shipping for 100ml which is great value. I'll be wearing this regularly as a daytime office scent.

So fresh, forever. As long as you can smell this on your skin, it will be fresh and clean, never turns stale. It's not a powerhouse at any measure, but I wouldn't want it to be. Lavender, really green fresh pressed lavender and an awesome citrusy creamy sweet note too. It's a safe spice that goes waaaay beyond the price. bad rhymes aside, trust the reviews and trust that you will get much more than your money's worth. Don't expect a new dimension however, but all things considered, this bottle is a must have. Everyday type frag, crazy good value. 8/10

This juice is really lovely. It was a blind buy but, what a blind buy! Inexpensive too. Starts with a fresh, sweet spicy smell reminscent of Grigioperla or Drakkar Noir, a very clean ozonic smell that lasts. The drydown and sillage smells very fresh like washed linen, in fact, this has one of THE nicest projections I have ever smelled. Mark Buxton has produced some great ones, and this is an overlooked goodie, in my opinion. Fabulous men's scent and worth seeking out.

I prefer Taxi to Drakker Noir! However its' Achilles Heel is it's performance which is a bit stilted. It weakens to a skin scent within 90 minutes. Still for its' asking price, I really can't complain. I agree with the other reviewers about the marketing of this fragrance. They would sell more of this scent with a change to a more appealing name and bottle.

I just received this today and have to say I am very impressed. To my nose it is very similar to Rive Gauche with the lavender and star anise. This scent is very clean, fresh, and masculine with a bit of spice. For the $12.00 I paid this is an absolute steal. I think I just found my "go to" after the gym scent.

You know I posted about this fragrance about 10 years ago... And after putting it on this morning I am still enchanted with a buttery crisp and oh so smooth Drakar... Vibe! Just love it! Man for the money this is A Stupid Reach!

I love both Taxi and Draakar Noir. Taxi is a bit sweeter. But DN has a special character about it and DN lasts a little longer. Well worth a try if you love DN. Also, Dakar is almost better than DN.

This isn't much like Drakkar Noir. This is much more like Drakkar Intense, which I gather is like the original Drakkar (which I've never smelled). Taxi has those aromatic notes but it's not green and sharp, it's more soft and sweet. It's very pleasant, though, and a worthy blind buy if you like these "luxury shaving cream" fragrances and can grab it for less than 10 bucks. If I could only pick one between the two, though, I'd go for Drakkar Intense personally. Update: I got a smaller bottle of Drakkar Noir for travel since it's one of my fav classics, and it smells much sweeter than my bigger bottle -- much more similar to Taxi and Drakkar Intense. Maybe my 100ml DN bottle is an older batch or something? Anyway, I understand the Taxi/DN comparisons now. My original take still stands: If you like this sort of profile, Taxi is a good one (and dirt cheap).

An excellent choice for any season. This is not an 8 dollar fragrance. This is a great fragrance that just happens to cost 8 dollars. I have gotten two types of performance out of Taxi. In the summer it is a deep thick steeping fragrance generator that goes for hours. In the cooler dryer weather it is more sharp but still maintains its great sillage. All of the assessments of this being very green and Drakkar Noir like are appropriate. Women around tell me they like this fragrance. The first time I wore this I wasn't sure about it because it does go into a direction of green that I wasn't used to, but ever since I have enjoyed wearing it more each time.

Have it for 3 days now... Got a good deal online : 5$ for 100ml (3.4oz) with free transport, so I could not turn it down. I can describe this as "lavender + other notes". You can feel the lavender very intense and pleasant, but it is not only it. The other notes form a complex cushion around the main note. Musk can be felt a little bit. It is a fragrance I like very much, fresh and warm at the same time, definitely floral. Longevity got me around 4-6 hours with a moderate silage. Not a top class fragrance, but I think I got more than I was expecting for that price.

I got this fragrance in the middle of winter and I was totally nose-blind to it. All I could smell was aniseed and mint for a few minutes and then nothing. Also the scent reminded me of the toothpaste that my old step-mother used, so..not sexy!! I eventually tried Taxi in the summertime and like many reviewers say, it works a lot better in warm/hot weather. I find that wearing it every day gets a little bit sickly but maybe that just me. Masculine, casual, relatively light fragrance. Pretty good for the price.

I agree that this is a lighter version of DN and Azzaro PH, but it doesn't smell less natural, thankfully. It has more of a minty feel than either of those two, though, which you may or may not appreciate. Of course there are plenty of these around (another being Lomani, which has an interesting grassiness in the base), so if you already have something like this and rarely wear it (like myself), you may not want yet another bottle of a scent like this.

I can't recollect how that many people think this smells like Drakkar...NO WAY! I get a watered-down Joop Homme Wild(the bottle with the skull on it), so a cherry-ish tobacco..clay kinda scent...pleasant, but done before, and stronger. Well worth the $6.95 I paid though...since it's made in France it's better than many of the mainstream North American meh's around for more. Safe blind buy because it's worthless.

Personally, I like this scent. I'm not experienced to give this cologne a real "similar vibe to this other cologne" type review, but what I will say is that it smells sweet and pleasant. It almost smells like a nice Iced Tea imo. It's worth a buy! I would recommend you re-applying it a couple of times throughout the day.

Nice Fougere, Lavender Anise is very prominent at the opening, dries to a ambery musk. It's a good simple out of the shower scent to freshen up and smell clean. Sillage and performance are moderate, but I'm not complaining for the price. At the same price point and vibe, I think I like it better than the Lomani

Another good low priced option. A very linear synthetic scent but still nice. It has a soapy fresh out the shower scent. Better suited for warm weather (at least 60). Longevity and projection are better than average but not beastly...

Daytime version of Drakkar Noir. Office friendly. Barbershop feeling because the lavender is very present. Appropriate for day or night, formal or casual, 365 days per year. Damn good.

Taxi is a Drakkar Noir replica. There is no doubt about it. Possibly a little softer. Still, I'm glad I purchased it. A nice sized bottle for the price, a a great spray.

Ok, so I made the Drakkar rounds, not sure why it took this late in the game to do so, but if you have Drakkar I would guess seeking out the clones would be silly. This one cost more than Lomani, which is weird considering the presentation is absolute trash, plastic cap just sits on the bottle, it’s large and pointless, outside of covering a dismal atomizer. The bottle is fun, can’t help but think of the pinball table “TAXI” from my youth. The scent is really quite awful, flat with little spice or that classic shave foam vibe. This performs worse than Lomani, and quite honestly Lomani smells way better. This really has nothing going for it. It will not offend, it won’t leave much in the way of any impression. I don’t even think it’s challenging enough to be “old man” smelling. I was under the impression this was a closer take to old formulations of Drakkar Noire, but ultimately it too has likely been adjusted for current day and highly more likely cost effectiveness. If you want a friendly softer take on Drakkar, I say check out Lomani. Sure it has a big ole plastic cap too, but it actually serves its purpose. Just applied more, after reading reviews. Went super heavy, just not getting much. Just taking it in as best I can, getting a slightly sweet green mint like note. Really such a strange profile, does not have the spicy aspects and pop of other scents it is compared to. My bottle was purchased very recently so who knows what they have done to the formulation, what I can say is for myself and my bottle it is really just not worth even the low investment.

I do not get any pleasure in being a nay sayer but this is really terrible it smells like axe body spray not even good as drakkar and no where NEAR the scent of rive gauche , I am actually shocked now when I think about the review on pour monsieur and I forget what other blog did a review maybe frompyrgos or something. Anyway they must have been sick or on copious amounts of lsd because this is terrible. It just barely sits between not giving me any pleasure to wear whatsoever, and actually affecting my mental state in a negative way, luckily just on the neutral borderline

This is a surprisingly good fragrance, that unfortunately has been dismissed as a Drakkar Noir clone. Now to be fair, it seems clear that the scent and it's presentation are meant to draw comparisons. It's housed in a similarly black and oblong-shaped bottle. And the scent itself is very similar to Drakkar Noir, as they share some of the same notes in the same order. That said, Taxi does things differently enough to distinguish itself as its own thing. First off, there's the anise note present in the opening of Taxi that gives it a slightly sweeter vibe than the current formulation of Drakkar Noir. DN opens up very bright and sporty, whereas Taxi downplays the brightness with a weaker citrus note, and the anise evokes a wet mousse smell. Whereas current DN gets immediately spicy at the heart, Taxi's transition is smoother, and never becomes warm. Instead, it's cooler or better yet, more neutral in temperature. The barbershop/shaving cream vibe is bit more noticeable here then it is in current Drakkar Noir, which, in my opinion, makes current Taxi truer to the decade that it was produced in. There's still some citrus lingering on at the heart but it fades completely by the time we get to the base. At the base is where the tobacco comes into play. Imagine the smell of canned shaving cream laced with some tobacco. I want to say the anise is still hanging around and providing balance because, despite the tobacco, the scent never comes across as "dirty" unlike the drydowns found in Paco, Azzaro, or Polo. Its far more restrained, which makes it a more comfortable wear and as a result, the scent itself feels comforting. I'd go as far as to say that while Taxi smells most definitely of its time, its far smoother and easier to wear than its more well-known and well-loved contemporaries. SIMILAR TO: -Drakkar Noir: in overall vibe. -Vintage Drakkar Noir: Taxi isn't nearly as nuanced as vintage DN, but they both are smoother and subtle in their drydowns that give them both an air of sophistication. -Gilette Cool Wave: The base of this aftershave is a dry chypre, but imagine it as a fougere and you have the base of Taxi. -Azzaro Pour Homme: After about 6-7 hours this gives me a slight Azzaro vibe. You got the anise in the beginning, and you have an herbal shaving cream-like scent in the dry down. CONCLUSION: Taxi is exceptionally good, as it shines in the drydown with its subtlety and restrained approach to the trappings of the 80s barbershop fougere. I highly recommend this for fans of the genre and classics in general. I'm thinking of getting a back up because it really is some high quality stuff that definitely capture a mood. RATING: 8/10

I have to agree with Shamu and LustandFury in regards to Taxi. I agree with Shamu that there is a strong juniper/moss accord right up front in this fragrance, and it just smells very rich and smooth and green, green, green. There's also the exact same spike lavender/fresh-ozonic note found in Drakkar Noir (might be how the dihydromyrcenol is handled). I can see how LustandFury smells the star anise in there also, because there is a slightly anisic bittersweet pinch of something herbal in this structure. Unlike Drakkar, Taxi smells soft, expansive, and contains a stronger amber in its heart. This is because Taxi is a traditional fougere, whereas Drakkar is an aromatic fougere. That's right - Taxi is a traditional lavender/coumarin/oakmoss fougere, with a hit of citrus and juniper on top, a touch of mint (OK maybe a healthy wallop of nice, non-toothpasty mint), and a very quiet star anise note buried in its smooth heart. Its coumarin is dry and a little sweet, but not nearly as flamboyant as its aromatic brethren. You could interpret Taxi as a weaker, simpler version of Drakkar, but I find it to be the result of taking Drakkar's structure and reshaping it to conform with simpler traditional standards of masculine fern perfumery. The result is something truly beautiful. I don't do number ratings, but if I did, I'd give this a 10/10. Well done Mark Buxton.

Drakkar Noir? Non! Azzaro PH - nothing like the traditional formulation, which I loved. I do find the 2020 APH in refillable bottles to be thinned down in notes. TAXI smells like pungent shower gel or, better, commercial floor cleaner. Maybe carpet deodorizer. It's not complex and the bergamot combines with lavender or pine (monoterpenes) and mint in a piercing way, with an edible quality. I have smelled these molecules in a "fragrance" before but I can't precisely place them. OK the first image that comes to mind is a university lounge that has been cleaned at 5 pm for an event at 7:30, after the sun has set. So, it smells like a clean and pleasant space before a dullish party filled with attractive people. Maybe the bartender is slicing limes. Maybe he's a tall undergraduate jock, freshly showered in the immense old gym, and sweet. This smells like the 90s, kinda cheap (in a good way) and effective. I like the 80s bottle. TAXI is all over the map.

Taxi is not a Drakkar Noir replica. The funny thing is that i can confirm it only now when i have DK (batch code 2010) on my left hand, and Taxi on the right. Memories, including olfactory ones, can play games. The first time i sprayed Taxi it instantly reminded me of Drakkar Noir. The way the lavender is done is similar, but again not identical. In DK the lavender is heavy, green, aromatic. In Taxi the lavender is spicier, less green, and citric. After the initial 10-15 minutes DK and Taxi continue to tell different stories, but again clearly coming from the same mythical source that have evoked both. DK is singing leathery lullabies in deep and evergreen woods, while Taxi is less vocal, it's humming a love melody of anise and green grass in mint fields. Taxi is not a complex fragrance. But is a very good storyteller. And its sandalwood base is quite theatrical. How is this so cheap, and why it's not more popular! ****(*)

I'm surprised people are comparing this to Drakkar Noir when the combination of anise and bergamot puts it so close to Rive Gauche PH. I also get a hint of tobacco as it develops. No juniper. If it werent't for the anise, which I can't take for extended periods, I could easily see this becoming an inexpensive staple.

This perfume reminds me of: -Drakker Nior ............................. No option to select spearmint toothpaste or spearmint chewing gum. Haha! Well actually it is a very elegant and complex spearmint that stays fresh.

This smells very much like a richer red Gillette shaving cream to me, and i must admit I really do like it. Very good scent for the price, I paid 6 EUR. Good longevity, intimate/moderate sillage.

I really like it for the $. At dry down it's definitely a masculine shaving cream scent.i love the mint note. Similar to DN and Lomani PH.. The mint and eucalyptus is so calming

They say ferns don't have smell. But there is a note called fougere (fern). This is exactly how ostrich ferns (fiddlehead ?) smell when it is freshly harvested from the field.

Everything below is true.. Opens like drakkar but in the heart it is a bit more leather and mint. Yoy have to smell closely.. Smells very similar to Dakar

Similar to Drakkar Noir but more soapy. Good projection and sillage but average longevity. If you like Darkkar Noir,Taxi is an excellent option.

The best 10 dollars I have spent. Clean old school but fresh. In between drakkar noir and green irish tweed.
