Comme des Garcons Series 7 Sweet: Sticky Cake

I love this so much that I could cry! This scent simultaneously takes me back to my childhood, and forward into a heavenly realm. Sticky Cake is the wrong name (in my opinion). That sounds far too cloying and dense. "Angel Food" is more like it. It is an incredibly soft and endearing gourmand. Top Notes - Almonds, Honey, Pistachio, Dates Heart Notes - Iris, Milk & Brown Sugar Base Notes - Ambrette Seeds, Cereal Notes, Myrrh The sweet notes of course smell delicious, however it's the Iris, Ambrette (Anise), and Myrhh that make this scent special. Something soft and powdery from the Iris, something light and vegetal from the Ambrette, something resinous and complex from the Myrhh... Random thoughts that come to my mind when I sniff my wrist- Marzipan, Fluffy Clouds, Nana's Pizzelles, Sweet Cereal Milk, My Childhood Doll, Middle Eastern Dessert, Innocence, Comfort, LOVE. *I'd also like to add that Lolita Lempicka is my all time favorite scent... And I think this could be her baby sister. ;)

Imagine an upscale European style bakery with marble floors and delicious treats displayed behind glass. The sweet sugary smells envelope you as you choose which treats to take home. Even on the way home, you can smell the almond croissant and marzipan pistachio bonbons from inside the box. This is the image I get when I smell Sticky Cake. A beautiful almond croissant accompanied with marzipan pistachio treats. Sweet, nutty and warm. The scent is not overwhelming and it's just faint enough to smell like when smelling the treats in the bakery or through the box. I am absolutely in love with this gourmand fragrance and have added it to my wish list. Edit - bottle style has changed, it's now white and more modern looking.

I found myself unexpectedly charmed by this fragrance. "Sticky cake" isn't very inviting in a market hyper-saturated in gourmands, but this isn't what you'd expect. To my nose, this fragrance is mostly about almond and iris suspended in resins, with a salty vanillic dough (or maybe even Play-Do) accord being the "twist". If this was a baked good it would be almond shortbread, maybe with some fleurs de sel sprinkled on top. Rather than sticky and sweet, this is almost a lighter, more piquant take on Hypnotic Poison's almond accord. Nothing earth-shaking, but I'm happy CDG decided to give this a second release.

I would say this is more of a powdery tres leches cake...yum! The iris accord definitely gives it the powder, and the rest is the pistacho-almond-honey cake (and a hint of myrhh gives it just a tiny touch of spice). I really love this, I need to get a full bottle someday.

Sticky cake opens with sweet pistachio and iris along with lactonic nuances in the background. To me sticky rice cake has a glutinous rice/mochi feel to it - very authentic and creative gourmand and decent projection + longevity. Yum!

I love this. It's a bit similar to Hypnotic Poison, but a bit more gourmand. I love the dates in this. Not a boring gourmand. A gourmand with pizzaz. Reminds me of the British sticky cake. Dates Dates Dates.

This smells exactly like gulab jamun--syrupy, nutty, sweet with a hint of floral. Over time, it fades to something closer to baklava--a strong nut and honey scent with a hint of pastry.

Sticky Cake reminds me of Horchata! I’m surprised there’s no rice or coconut in the notes. It smells like sweet almond milk with cinnamon and powdery iris petals. An unusual combination, but I absolutely love it! I’m also really surprised this has so many dislikes... I am glad I wasn’t dissuaded from trying this, although I thought I wouldn’t like it because of the reviews. I’m a diehard almond lover so maybe I’m biased. It’s pretty linear- a hint of marzipan in the beginning and a drier, sweet powdery drydown. It has decent staying power on my skin which is a small miracle. I recommend testing this without any preconceived notions before purchasing.

does not smell like sticky cake at all but rather a pretty girl in white lace at a tea party, eating sticky cake. upon initial spray I get powdery, almost plasticine, iris (almost smells like an old fashioned makeup powder puff). after a little while it dries down into a slightly milky, sweet almond scent. The sillage is stronger than I expected for an edt but it isn't overpowering, I think this is an incredibly lovely scent for the spring time, it's not as sweet or cake/pastry like as I was hoping or expecting but I find that the more I wear it the more I love it.

I like this! Not a love, love, but I do enjoy it. The Iris, pistachio, and almond come through strong for the first 15 or so minutes but after the dry down it becomes a lot more subtle and I start to pick up on the milk and honey more. My only complaint is that it just doesn't last long on me after about 2 hours it's nothing but a whisper on my skin. Would recommend to anyone who likes a soft milky fragrance

I've had a craving for almond notes for a while so I bought this one. As many has written the scent is a little different then what you'd expect. I sort of like it anyways because It reminds me of the time you actually wrote letters! The perfume smells kind of like the taste you got when you licked the glue on the envelopes. Not really what you want to smell like but an intriguing scent for your self.

This is dry, not sweet, and not lactonic or cakey. Really an iris & powder perfume. When trying to conjure cake in my mind while smelling it, the closest I can get is that it's similar to Jour de Fete (or even Bois Farine) in that it is more like a powdered cake mix. But the iris takes it away from any photorealism, making it more of a loose association with a refined tea-time.

Please pm me if you want this to swap or sell- i have an extra bottle I received a sample from a fragrance friend. I love it. It starts off very powdery - like dry ingredients of a cake. I mostly pick up wheat flour, almonds and milk. As this warms on the skin, it becomes more dense as sticky. That’s when I get more honey, dates and the texture changes. I adore it.

This is an okay fragrance for me. It is not a love, but a like. It is sweet, but I was expecting more cakes or baked goods. This just smells like sweets to me. I get lots of almonds and pistachios, but no milk. I was expecting a creamy, baked good. I would have loved sticky cakes, but all I got was jolly ranchers. Okay sillage, okay longevity.

an excellent rendering of an honeyed maghrebin pastry who evolves into an Iris petal turkish delight. A lot of almond with a elegant touch of powdery iris.

Starts off as an iris bomb but gradually the more gourmand notes become apparent but it's not super sweet like a Montale gourmand. Light honey almond and milk are what I smell the most of in the 3 times I have sampled it from my dabber. It would be a nice warm weather gourmand as it is light and won't offend anyone.

This smells like an almond cake with a gasoline frosting made in another galaxy. I find it interesting, but would not buy a full bottle.

This smells like almond macaroons dipped in gasoline. There's something quite metallic/burning fossil fuels to this scent but it's wrapped around a sweet confectionary accord so it's oddly pleasant. Or pleasantly odd. For those who are looking for a true sweet and sugary gourmand, I do not recommend this. If you like the weird smells that you probably shouldn't, I'd say to sample first. I wouldn't have bought this if I'd gotten a sample first, but my bottle was purchased at a crazy good price, and lightly used so a bit of the work has already been done for me. Knowing the line and house that this comes out of, I am not concerned about this being "off" or counterfeit. CDG is known for creating outside of the crowd-pleasing box. I love almost everything I test of their's but not many of them have been "safe", and there's always a note that makes you question what it's doing there but it brings such a unique addition without going overboard into smelling unpleasant. I really do enjoy this, and I'm glad I own a bit of it in my collection, but I certainly wouldn't repurchase, and I'm a little bit unsure of how much I'll be wearing this out in public. It's more of a scent experience that's just for me. Kind of like opening up a permanent marker and sniffing it a few times before you close it back up. Or sitting in your brand new car and huffing the leather interior. Or even licking the bowl of your freshly whipped cake batter. Nice for you, but not something you want other people to watch you doing. Additionally: I get very good sillage and longevity out of this scent. With just 2 sprays (or less!) I can detect the scent on me very strongly for several hours.

Yeah, no. Absolutely not. I am and always have been a lover of sweet, milk-y fragrances and of course the premise of this perfume seemed entirely like a dream. Cake? Milk and honey? Sugar? I was over the moon and almost blind-bought an entire bottle at once. Luckily, I did not (thank god for samples). This is probably the most artificial-smelling gourmand I've ever experienced. I am very particular about the fact that I want my gourmands to be as natural as possible - sweetness that is very real and life-like to what it's trying to replicate. I would tell anyone who is terribly curious about this, like I was, to buy a sample, because as we know - the same fragrance works differently with different people. I would tell you, however, to NOT blind buy this if you are able to avoid it. What a shame.

Sticky Cake is exactly what it implies; a sweet and gourmand fragrance. The opening is surprisingly not nauseating, but it is very sweet and in my opinion too sweet. Though I love vanilla, gourmand fragrances and do not shy away from sweet fragrances, Sticky Cake 'takes the cake' when it comes to reaching my limit. It is overpoweringly sweet, it lacks a contrasting hint of freshness from either citrus or green notes (at least in the top notes), but in all fairness, it is pleasant for what it is. Sticky Cake is dripping honey into a warm glass of milk. It is sweet and lactonic. Full review is up on my blog and Instagram, which are linked on my profile.

Sticky? Yes. Cake? No, absolutely not! I was expecting something that well, smelled like cake. Instead, I get a weird super-sweet synthetic grape soda and sharp iris that lasts the life of the scent. I'm jealous of the people who could smell anything remotely cake-like in this! I wouldn't even call this a gourmand, the iris really dominates.

Smells like Dimetapp, the grape-flavored children's cold medicine. Brings me back to being sick and my mom forcing me to take medicine. Not a fan.

On the dabber, it has this weird condom scent to me, vaguely sweet. A vanilla flavored condom, maybe. I'm not getting any cake ):

Cheap fabric softener that hurts your nose.

This is quite an interesting "gourmand" - it's mainly a super sweet powdery almond, completely devoid of the warmth or lactic notes that one would expect from a perfume named after a dessert. There's a prominent plastic/artificial note in this that almost smells like saran wrap, and in combination with the almond notes it creates a mild play-dough vibe to this fragrance. More than anything though, this really reminds me of something I used to buy at Lush that I can't put my finger on (maybe the rockstar soap? or snow angel shower gel? or just the store itself?) It's quite a sterile gourmand, but it still ends up being a bit cloying somehow. It's alright, but I wouldn't recommend this unless you truly LOVE almond scents.

This is a pretty nice fragrance, albeit a tiny bit "dull" for a CdG one. Sweet, a bit powdery, very dry as mentioned earlier (not sticky at all, I think!) and a vague hint of milky coconut. It's not bad and would make a nice home fragrance, but for me it's just not something I'd wear. I only got a sample and I'm sure I'll enjoy dabbing it on when I'm feeling like I need something soothing. If you're into very light gourmands that hover more around the vanilla, coconut, milk family you'll probably like this okay. It's got moderate lasting power and moderate silage. Over all it's fine, just not to my taste and a bit unlike most CdG releases that have kind of an edge or something a bit woody or musky behind them.

I didn't look at the notes before I tested this, I just knew what I expected from the name. It starts with an obvious but not dominant note of bitter almonds. What's dominant is this soapy and powdery iris note. Later on when it dries down, it takes on a minty quality that can be attributed to the myrrh note, making the overall impression more of root beer. The most reminiscent perfume that I come to think of is Mandorlo di Sicilia by Acqua di Parma. The perfume doesn't last very long, even with a such characteristic and often lingering note as bitter almonds. First, a soapy bitter almond, later rootbeer until fading to a quiet powdery iris, the longest lingering note. Pleasant enough, not groundbreaking.

I'm fair disappointed in Sticky Cake. The description on Luckyscent mentions "sugary", and "sweet" (which I like), so I blind bought a bottle. Mistake. On me there is no sweetness at all. I would almost call this a "dry" fragrance, and that may be due to the iris. It isn't offensive in any way, so I didn't feel the need to wash it off. It just isn't at all what it was sold to be, and I don't see myself ever wanting to wear this again. How can it be, when every single one of the notes normally appeals to me? So what does this smell like? My first thought when I sprayed it was "hairspray". Six hours later, it hasn't changed at all. Still hairspray. What a waste of $95.

I had this one and still there's some liquid left on my botlle, and from time to time i get a sniff. Although not love anymore it strikes me how reserved on sweetnes was the Series 7 Sweet of CDG if you consider all the toothaching fruity florals on the department store counter.This sweet musky skin scent, gives a whole new style of iris , one that haves a calming effect, as if curly smoke pierces our nostrils as it rises from a milk and rice puding and it goes deeper into the drydown.A nice multistranded structure of all things nice and nurturing, touches on human nature, not entirely succesful but mesmerizing.And as tessture said delicious

I agree it does smell like church, and that smells divine to me. It's very nutty aswell, I really like this take on sweet because it focuses on the saltiness, and that's rare. It makes perfect scent when one experiences the collection as a whole that they would make these subtle variations between the scents soo subtle: Where one is more aromatic and herbal, another is more floral and sweet, this one has more of an edge (the salt does this) and it's unique for that. I haven't smelt all the fragrances but this is one of the two I favor most.

This would be perfect without the Iris, which gives it an old lady like quality. It's like Comme des Garcons was so scared to be accused of making too gourmand of a gourmand and had to throw in the Iris, which literally SCREECHES through the sweet perfection of the top and base and it never, ever dies. It's like someone making a sandwich with fresh baked artisan bread and throwing an old piece of bologna in the middle. Please Comme des Garcons, make another version of this WITHOUT the IRIS. Call it Sticky Cake Extreme or something.

Absolutely zero cake, no stickiness no bakery. Smells of fresh laundered shirts , but then again no not really. It's 'nice' and no one wants to spend come des garçons money to smell 'nice' you want gourmand , almost toffee gooey, creme blend of a scent that is something supreme. You will not get that here. It's important not to blind buy this. I sprayed this I asked other peoples opinions... specifically asking 'does this smell like cake?" The answer is nope. Edit: this is a review on the white bottle .

Buy it and stick it in the back of your collection for a year. I bought it as a blind Luckyscent add-on, and while I enjoyed the creamy myrrh and pistachio, a honeyed hairspray note dominated and it was gone in an hour. I tried it again a year later while culling my collection and was floored by the crisp and airy baklava note I was smelling. The myrrh keeps the honey from going over the top, and while it sits close to the skin, I was getting whiffs of it all day. Absolutely not cake, but truly enjoyed

a very fun scent, i get a lot of vanilla and honey notes and even something reminiscent of freshly made icing from this ! along with some powdery milky vibes. pleasant, and i would buy another sample, but it's a little too strong of a scent to purchase a full bottle.

first note reminded me of Lipstick On (rip) in that lovely powdery hairspray way, but quickly yielded to disappointing flintstone chalk vitamin and dusty milk body. finish is baby formula and the kind of cheap frosting you make with just powdered sugar and water

My husband said ‘smells like church.” Probably the myrrh. Reminds me of Kheer rice pudding: Rice, rose and honey. The cereal is very prominent, but it’s still somehow perfume. I like it very much but it's terribly expensive. Still, delicious.

there's a fruit note in here (possibly a date???) that unfortunately dominates the scent for me. not remotely cake-like at all to my nose until the scent is nearly ready to disappear hours later

Dry gourmand, measured sweetness, very comforting. Myrrh and honey are usually no no notes for me, but somehow those notes are not standing out to me at all!

Iris...IRIS! haha..super sweet iris, very little almond note..CERO projection! but extremely pleasant.
