Comme des Garcons Series 8 Guerrilla: Guerrilla 1

The dominant smell and ingredient in CDG Guerrilla 1 is Carrot seed which blends and compliments perfectly with the Champaca. The aldehydes gives a very spatial aura when smelled from another person,gravitating around. Very green,earthy and sweet and has an organic and natural feeling. A very interesting CDG fragrance,very minimalist, well blended,simple and straight forward to the point without top and middles notes.Only for adventures people looking to smell different.If you have an artistic mind this is your perfume. Very close to I Love Les Carottes by Honore des Pres.

I have it I have it... and I love it. One of the most unusual and beautiful fragrances ever made. A little bit spicy a little bit flowery than buttery and again spicy. I have never seen so evolving fragrance before. But this is for real perfume lovers... because if you like mass-market stuff stay away from it ... this masterpiece can be strange for you.

This is a light, lovely floral scent with a spicy twist. On me, there's a mix of pink peppercorn and wild fennel on the top, a heart of lily/champaca/plumeria, and a base of vetiver and soft musk. On me, I get no saffron. There is no other scent quite like it, and I wish CdG had put more marketing behind it because it deserves to be celebrated.

I knew by the reviews of Guerrilla 1, if one perfume in particular would definatly not be blind-buy-proof, this would be it. Now, i also knew that the words butchery store (the location where the first CDG guerrilla store was opened and this scent was inspired by) and perfume don't quite fit. Well, i did blind buy it even with all of this knowledge, and sure enough, it does smells like a butchery store, there's no mistake about it, i've seen the words "raw meat" being mentioned in a review and thought it would be a personal interpretation based on the butchery store foreknowledge, but it does, there's a raw meat tone in it. So, the opening is not pretty, i can assure you, if anyone likes this opening he/she is a quirky human, no offense, i don't mind quirky people at all, god bless diversity, but oh boy, this opening.... A lot of that sharp unpleasant note fades away to the very background and makes place for a kinda musty floral note that i'm starting to appreciate, but i definatly need more wearings to describe this any further, it's a weird one, it will grow on me, but i would never have the audacity to spray and walk out of the door minutes later, people could possibly hate me for it. :) Not a safe scent. ;) Edit; this scent has absolutely no sillage at all on my skin, i need to put my nose to my arm to smell something.Could just be my skin though. Double edit; My wife apparently seems to be one of those quirky people who love the opening, she also thinks it's one of the better bottles i own.She was not influenced by the small "hype" around this scent, so she had an open mind to begin with, and thinks it's very floral, it is though, but it's a weird scent, and she doesn't think so,... i dunno. :) Upon further wearings i'm starting to love it more and more, it will never be one of my favourites, but it's one i start to like a lot, can't wait to wear this deviant alien on a family dinner. :) Scent: 9/10, Unique, weird, daring, still wearable enough, but it will definatly annoy certain people. Sillage: 3/10 On my skin, not good at all, the opening is heavy and radiates all over the place, after that it becomes very close to the skin, though on clothes it lasts very well, so it could be my skin texture. Longevity: 6/10 Not very long, on clothes again, it lasts very well.

Comme des Garcons is undoubtedly the avante garde leader of perfumery. They create beautifully crafted scents, and by abandoning the production of scents that are likely to make people compliment you, they have opened many offbeat doors. CdG does produce a few mainstream perfumes (e.g. 2 Man) and many attractive niche scents (Monocle, Jaisalmer etc.), but what makes CdG stand out is their weird or unexpected concoctions. Guerrilla 1 is not their oddest perfume (try Odeur 53 or Garage or others), but it is still way out there. To my nose Guerrilla 1 is somewhere between strangely attractive and just plain strange. I really don't know how to describe the scent. I don't get much of the raw meat vibe, though I can see where that thought comes from (metallic bloody beef in particular in the top note). I suppose saffron and pepper would come closest to familiar notes that might give you some idea of what this smells like to me, and yet, as so often in olfactory space, that will give you only a hint of what you will experience. There is something spicy-floral (perhaps champaca) and something cumin-like in the middle, and in the base maybe some vetiver. Maybe a bit of immortelle and civet? Oh hell, I give up. It is a unique blend of things that smells nothing like anything else I have ever tried. I am sitting here smelling my wrist while writing and my opinion is gradually shifting from just plain strange toward strangely attractive. If I imagine a parallel world in which some plant part smelled like this (probably the leaf), I think there would be a cherished but controversial spice or scent made from it, rather like cumin in our world. If you are starting to push the bounds of "normal" perfumes and are interested in unusual scents, you must sample this.

As Guerrilla 1 touched my skin I immediately wondered WTF was going on. A bizarre effect that smells something like a plastic bag containing overripe fruits, some flowers and the typical synthetic/resinous vibe of many of the CDG's creations. It sounds horrifying but the overall effect is at the same time odd, intriguing and compelling. The drydown occours quite soon and reveals a more "conventional fragrance" (probably not the most appropriate definition talking about Guerrilla1) that stays close to the skin with a great blend of vetiver, musk and spicy hints. In this phase Guerrilla 1 smells something like a dirty musk for lubricated and polished androids. Unique and hyper-modern. A few considerations... 1) If you're looking for something unique, bizarre and challenging keep in mind that Comme Des Garcons is one of the very few outfits that is still able to create compositions that are at the same time weird, interesting and wearable mantaining a perfect balance between these characteristics. 2) Don't test Guerrilla 1 on paper as it's completely another scent, and a very disgusting one! Love it! Rating: 8-8.5/10

Then I went to a night club (what I am doing pretty seldom) I had to choose between Comme des Garçons no 2 Men, Dreckig Bleiben and this 1 ml sample. I decided to go with this to the club. And started to spray right before entering the club. I never smelled it before. I thought who is smelling here so damn good. Thought the guys in front of me did. But not, as I moved I recognized it was me. Smelling it for the first time was wow. But now my nose got rid of the synthetic components, so I don't like this scent anymore. It's fresh, flowery, green smell is nice, but my nose says no. The same with aldehydes and synthetic scents. There's a high quality alternative to this scent, it's damien bash lucifer no 4.

This is a spicier, more masculine yet still unisex version of the Luxe Champaca EDT. Like somebody else mentioned, the mixture of spices creates the illusion of cumin being present in the ingredients. It's spicy, slightly salty in the opening. With time the champaca comes out to play, adding some sweetness to the scent. It is meaty and chewy, rather than dry. It's a strange combination, but I think it will appeal to adventurous people who like to take risks. I prefer something a bit greener and more floral, so it gets a like rather than a love from me.

A particularly odd release - somewhat between the Synthetic Series 6 direction and at the same time nodding to more classical perfumery regions - maybe through the champaca note. What I get is an industrial gardening impression, vetegal, compost, fruity, leaves, unripe and overripe at once, leaving me to think of Insensé in some moments, yet in relation Guerrilla 1 remains 'bruto' and brilliantly unpolished at all stages. A personal favourite amongst Comme's most productive decade, possibly discontinued, however not too long ago the shop in Paris still had copies if asked ...

The word "Strange" comes to mind sniffing Guerrilla 1. A mix of totally incompatible ingredients. Like the party with bunch of very different people that don't gel. There is very sweet yellow floral, something metallic, vetiver, some notes that smell like compost and more...Challenging. The last part of the dry-down became sweet and floral on my skin. The most harmonious part but still not enjoyable.

This one really isn't for me. I've tried and tried but can't seem to find the right time to wear it. It doesn't develop much on wearing, it just remains quite cold and metallic. You can pick out the florals and spices but they are quite unclean and heavy. At best I try to wear it during the day so that the heat drives it off quickly as it tends to linger.

massive fan of CDG, they can do no wrong for me. except guerrilla 1. but i suppose thats what they were going for. you know, the whole anti perfume thing. too much champak, and not much else.
