Monocle Scent Five: Syros

This is definitely the baby of CDG black .. I have both and there’s only a slight difference .. but both are great if you like spicy black peppery scent .. It definitely has black pepper note

CDG Black's younger cousin. Different notes but similar warm spicy DNA, and suitable for temps that aren't quite as cold. Surprisingly good performance.

Mmh. I impatiently waited for the new Monocle. To me, this series is the best within the comme de garcon universe. Hinoki is crazy good. Laurel really interesting and unique in its own way. Sugi an all time classic. amazing. All three made by the master himself, Antoine M. The first impression: no. It strongly reminds me of a heavier version of Bois d'Encens by Giorgio Armani Prive. An orthodox church experience. Yet, Bois d'Encens starts with pepper and then sinks into the depth of incense, while this one starts with a mix of heavy incense and the smell of many youngsters these days, strong and a bit overwhelming, not sure what it is. However, it is balanced in its way... I love Geza Schön's Eccentric 05, which recreates the olfactory of a Mediterranean Island, and was curious to see this interpretation of the same. Imagine, on such an island, you enter a church, you look for the container of burnt incense ashes, stick your nose inside and think of the airport carpet. Interesting. But not my thing.

Interesting woody aromatic scent that evokes certain memories of travels in the Middle East or the Mediterranean. The scent opens with notes of thyme, rosemary and turmeric and has a heart of immortelle and patchouli. The scent settles into a base of synthetic musk and vetiver. The scent is masculine leaning, and has moderate sillage and good longevity. Not the best of the series, now up to 5, but has a certain unique character. Enjoy!

I feel like this one is somewhat a departure from Monocle series. To my nose it’s like CDG Black + huge dose of iso E super. Nothing special.
