Odeur Du Théâtre Du Châtelet Acte I

Imagine you’ve walked into a dressing room of an old theater after a show, but you’re 20 minutes too late. Everyone’s already left. There are days-old roses from the week's past performances strewn about, makeup and hairspray, applied hours earlier, still linger. Other people’s perfume, too. And a day-old cold coffee sitting in a styrofoam cup on the corner of the dressing table. The building is creaky, full of old wood, heavy velvet, and a bit of dust. This is Comme des Garçons Odeur du Theatre du Chatelet Act 1. And it’s my current obsession. I hate the initial opening, which lasts for a mere 60 seconds. This rather instant enemies-to-friends transformation only makes me all the more obsessed with it. It swiftly turns nostalgic, familiar, soft...it’s an apparition. The presence of humans without a single person in the room. With all this in mind, it can be applied to other scenarios. Such as a visitation the day before a loved one’s funeral, after everyone has left. It's the same lingering hairspray, the same mixing of perfumes reserved for special occasions, the same abandoned half-drunk cold coffee and flowers, all in a building that has hosted its share of human experience. But this isn’t unappealing to me — it only further enthralls me. Odeur du Theatre softly, gently encapsulates my most glamorous, exhilarating moments, to my most heartbreaking. This apparition, this ghost, is a guardian angel, perhaps. (All of this, and it's absolutely beautiful on skin.)

At first spray I was unsure, though intrigued, especially by a pronounced cumin note on my skin. but now I know.... I'm obsessed with this scent. I don't get any true coffee notes at all but maybe there is something of the idea of forgetting about your coffee in the corner of the room because you have been distracted by the all the raw and different kinds of beautiful people bustling around backstage. half made up, half dressed, all the girls perfumes unified by the humidity of the room. You sweat under a wig, and your secret crush is eating an orange very very far away. Once it dries down it smells to me like an memory of the extreme seriousness and decorum of teenage sexuality projected over my current age and wisdoms. Like looking back and understanding that it was lighter than I ever could have known, but still being able to remember vividly how serious it felt, and sacred. The initiation into the pleasure of mixing in with other people often starts in after school activities like theater, or dance class. Anything where there is a call to sync your physicality to those around you--i find that here. That vague suggestion of other bodies, breath, and chemistry but without the development into action. Sweet innocent sweat that I can't stop pressing my nose against to smell. I need a full bottle now!

Breathtakingly lovely. Imagine you are anywhere in francophone continental Europe, but for specificity's sake, let's say you are in Genève sitting in Auditoire de Calvin. You are sitting alone late morning with a coffee stain on your shirt and your eyes closed, thoughtfully meandering after you have lost track of your prayer. As you are ruminating on the senselessness of life, you are taken aback as you smell N°18. However, it takes time to open your eyes as you try to resolve whether you think it is the EDP or EDT. As you open your eyes, all you can glimpse are the few seconds of a woman clad in Chanel Tweed quickly exiting the room and leaving a sense of serenity. Odeur Du Théâtre Du Châtelet Acte I is a space of historical contemplation alongside wafts of fleeting rose, tepid coffee, and sweet sweat. A must-have––my wife's signature scent.

I used to spend a lot of time in theatres and I think this captures that old dusty, dry scent really well. It’s not a romanticised depiction of greasepaint and sparkle, not the night of a premiere in the least. This is the work and rehearsals, the joy of access to an old space. I did need the title to prompt me and it’s a subtle scent but no less interesting for being so. Unsurprisingly the black pepper and coffee are the most discernible notes but that said the impact of the fragrance is a sensory evocation of place so nothing shouts loudly. The coffee is more cafe than roasters for example. I wear this for me, it’s not a big projector. It’s totally abstract and unisex and sits amongst CDGs best offerings of experimental perfumery. I have no idea who it is for but it’s definitely for me. Not every day but I’m glad I have it.

I went to London yesterday to DSM in the hope of trying all 5 new fragrances. I can never tell from the notes which one I’ll love but I always go for unique and weird, which is why I love this brand. I assumed it would be one of the clash series but as soon as I smelled this - oh my god. I fell in love. It definitely smells OLD. Old and full of memories and feelings and hopes and dreams. It took me years to realise that I fall unconditionally in love , and fast, with any perfume where ambrette is the main player. I can definitely smell it in this, it’s some zingy ethereal smell to me. This scent is sharp but fresh, long lasting, unisex, unique. It gives me images of old times (I’m sure that’s the marketing - theatre etc) but yes, my new favourite. 200ml bottles, well worth the price IMO.

I am absolutely obsessed with this fragrance. I found this when I was just getting into perfume (starting from the niche side). I specifically went in looking for a fragrance that captured the feeling of being in an old building or church that wasn't incense-y or particularly heavy. I work in theater and regularly enter a building that is an historical landmark. I have to say, this smell is exactly as described. It smells like old wood, light floral, musty, a little "powdery", almost "dusty"...like a well-worn building! It's just so beautiful and unique. I've had many folks smell it to see if they pick up on that same feeling, and my coworkers have all been very charmed by it.

this was one of the fragrances i fell in love with immediately. first whiff was like hell yeah it DOES smell like theater! I'm not a rose enjoyer btw, but here i can barely feel it. the whole combination of notes is actually so confusing to me i can't pinpoint any individual ones and im Loving it. they work together perfectly to create a mysterious and atmospheric feeling. the only downside is despite a pretty strong start the scent doesn't last too long on me. in 3-4 hours there's usually nothing left. which is compensated enough by the bottle being 200 ml for a reasonable price though!

I came to the store planning to buy the beloved Concrete, but I also had a faint idea of a watery dirty rose, so I kept browsing and met this wonder. Yes, Concrete has the rose too but it is more dense, while this one is watery. Also the rose here evokes nostalgic memories of the d&g rose one I wore in 2010s. Of course, these are two completely different perfumes, but it suddenly brought me back to those lovely silly times for a second. So, now I am the owner of this huge clumsy bottle and planning to heavily overspray 😋

A unique light musk to wear in slightly colder months, when you want something cozy rather than fresh. I really detect the coffee and the fresh light rose on top; this could have been named after a coffee shop just as easily as a theater. This is perfect for me as I live in a cold climate, and I like skin scents/clean musks with unique touches. Noticeable but not overwhelming, easy for daily wear. Great value for the price as well.

It has a strong capability of creating the sense of 'a room', transporting you to an abstract place. It's just lovely. Nothing provocative, 'odeur', about it. It's light, balances between rose and musk, and almost aquatic for me. Very versatile. Something ephemorous, but in a very good way. Abstract with character. It has a certain depth. Performance is not very strong, but it's acceptable.

The coffee/rose/orange blossom combo is very pleasant, since none of the notes is overpowering another. The base is a soft musk with a hint of wood and a little bit of pepper to top it of. Very soft and elegant fragrance, totally unisex. Longevity and sillage are slightly below average.

this is one of those perfumes that has immediately changed my life on first spray. i grew up with theatre parents, as an only child, and was raised by a bunch of queens, roadies, sound techs, stage hands. they're all here in this one fragrance <3

Metallic Rose, Oxygen mask, Yirgacheffe, Gewurtztraminer, Laundry room, Pink neon, Pink pepper, Pink cotton candy, Pink Panther Peter Sellers, Pink Floyd Piper psychedelia and a Pink/Orange Warhol print of Artaud with Dreyer. Wonderful.

Ambrette-musky fragrance that brings great comfort. The best black coffee scent I have tried yet, feels a bit lukewarm and quite bitter. This fragrance reminds me of the adorable "puppy breath".

Rose, popcorn, some woods in the back. Similar airy floral like gucci rush for woman. This is far from unisex leans heavily fem. Beautiful, weird scent with the lingering popcorn accord

The more i wear this the more it reminds me of CDG3 but this is watery rose centered with a buttery popcorn accord as opposed to basil

Amazing scent! Stunning! But not lasting. My maximum of 8 sprays stayed 2 hours longest.

I was so excited to finally try Odeur du Theatre du Chatelet Acte 1 when I first saw this on Fragrantica and now I finally got the opportunity to do so! Unlike the other Odeurs, this seems to really have a concept and is trying to push into a more direct direction. The other ones had a massive list of things and situations they're supposed to smell like but this one doesn't. It's one place and one situation, which I find very interesting. Now, here's the thing. I don't get a single thing except a woody, fresh pine note. It literally smells as if I was walking into a snowy forest and getting myself a nice christmas tree. Opening and drydown are also basically the same for me. Very linear. Now don't get me wrong here.. it's not bad! I actually like it quite a lot. But for the Theater concept to work I miss the strong rose, some generic perfume and also smoke and tobacco notes. I feel like that would've really captured an old fashioned theater in Paris. And when i really, really focus on trying to smell this theater thing, I do get it just a little bit. But if it wasn't for the description and the very specific name, I'd probably never guess what this is supposed to smell like. Still, I like it very much and you should definitely try it. The Odeur line is one of my favorite lines out there because it's just so unique and I love the idea of it.

very accurate concept to how it actually smells. its the cafeteria of an european theatre. the person next to you is sitting down, drinking coffee. their hair and makeup is half-done, you can smell the hairspray on them. you catch a whiff of some actor's cologne who's walking by, the fresh cigarette smoke lingering on their costume. a whiff of the scent of the stale, old flowers propped sadly in a porcelain vase sitting on your table. its woody, its dusty, its spicy, its floral. warm and cold at the same time. nostalgic.

Second to daphne as my favourite cdg... I wear this or odeur 53 when I need to evaporate. More human than odeur 53 or 71, in the sense that the traces of now-absent people exist in it (the other two are nicely devoid of all human touch). This also evokes the inside of a purse better than most leather scents for me.... It's not minty, but the ambrette is quite cool, as if you had old peppermint gum wrappers or loose mints in a soft bag, spilled a little coffee foam, then smelled the satin lining days later.... Lovely

I am not a fan of powdery fragrance but I like this one. It has a very unique scent, which gives me a sense of intimacy and serenity. I think the combination of Ambrette and rose is very interesting and unique here. It's minimal, soft, and gentle. It's very refined and each note and accords are very balanced and soft. To me, it's like adding a layer of intimate scent to the skin. This fragrance gives me a sense of very gentle and soft Cashmeran fabric (one of the notes). 7.5/10

Very nostalgic scent. Kind of sour and dusty, which sounds unpleasant but isn't really.

My first thought: Pandora’s Box. Wanting in on a secret, crossing the threshold, and feeling blinded by an alien light inside. A scratchy burnt metal note at the outset quickly fades into a dewy, transparent rose. Soft floral musks are cradled by something cold, dusty, and melancholic. The unexpected coffee accord arrives as a quieter echo of the charred opening. Distant and steamy, like drip coffee served after a religious function. It feels like the liminal space between you and an object of interest: tense, clammy, and charged with the anticipation of witnessing something scintillating. The scene unfolds before your eyes. It could be a play in a theater, or maybe a terrarium of a miniature garden glowing under greenhouse light, life moving slowly inside. I’m obsessed! Functionally, it’s quite sheer and wearable...the accidental freaky skin scent of my dreams. Typically I opt for the smallest bottle I can buy, but in this context, I adore the absurd theatrics of CDG exclusively producing this in a 200ml bottle.

Comme des Garcons Odeur Du Théâtre Du Châtelet Acte I is a white musky, slightly burnt pink rose that starts off so fresh and pink water in the first few seconds, then acquires a chemical burn or ironing burn smell. Not smoky but burning. It's the questionable coffee in here causing it; not sure why it was added as a note. If the goal was to make this weird, goal accomplished. The dry coffee bean smells burnt. The pink rose, ambrette, and white musk come back minutes later to balance the scent and which prevent it from being overly weird. There is a leftover subtle burning smell in the background but not as bad as the very opening and it doesn't take long for it to pass. Low moderate projection, and can still be smelled intimately at 4-5 hours.

This was one of those rare fragrances that I immediately fell in love with. It’s hiding amongst the folds of dusty velvet curtains in the wings of an old theatre, just minutes before you perform. An aria, an instrument, poetry, a dance. It’s the romance of anticipation, the fever of putting on a show. A thickly powdered and lipsticked face. Cold fingers that still smell like the roses your lover left in front of your mirror in the rehearsal room. It’s nostalgic, nervous and therefore oddly sensual. It becomes a pretty scintillating skin scent - I’d like to bite my wrists hard when I am wearing it. I’m still searching for a full bottle - do let me know if you are selling!

This produces a realistic phantasy image of what an old European theatre smells like - instantaneously I had to think of the stuffy yet perfumed air during winter evenings at the Burg Theater in Vienna and other places from that period - at the same time it feels slightly familiar right from the beginning, something like a mix of Comme's own 2009 Standard release, a dash of 2005's Wood Coffee and the synthetic powderdness of Gaultier's first perfume from 1993 - all in all not as outstanding as the original Odeur's were at their time, but still pleasant.

You’re at the depersonalization tea party after the Opera but you insist on coffee. You’re laughing out of sync in a group of overtly pretty women who are too stubborn to reveal a thing. The floor is silver, immaculate & shining. You recall the sweet 16 celebration you never had at a Lithuanian dance hall with rose bouquets steeped in so much pesticide they’ve turned 16 several times.

I find the musk, black pepper, and rose to introduce themselves. This isn’t a recommended perfume by any means and that’s why I love it. It’s an idea it’s an environment it’s a recognizable room. I do agree with comme des garçons wording and they achieved what they were trying to do. Suitable for an artist.

I got this to wear to shows because of the name and description, and I definitely get a stage makeup and velvet curtains vibe from it. It does have a certain "musty dusty" aspect to it that gives me pause as to whether I would ever own a full bottle of it, but it's worth a try, definitely unique.

initial spray yields a smell that is not particularly pleasant OR unpleasant. it takes a while to dry down but it eventually becomes a nice clean scent -not soapy, but pleasant enough for my mom to comment that she liked my perfume and asked what i was wearing. not for me though

This is just phenomenal! So COMME des GARÇONS! I adore it! So avant-garde! Smells like old flowers left in dirty water in an old ceramic vase in an old Russian building!

It doesn't smell like an american theatre/cinema but it smells like.... a place...hard to describe this one....very interesting indeed
