Red

Smells like Red Hots candy on me (I’m a guy) but this is more complex than that. I get something like citrus, realistic roses, then geranium, cinnamon, talc (or is that pepper?), cherries. Unisex: Very pleasant for men and women, perhaps women would like this more. I think it is fun. I am wearing it in transitional fall weather. The Black and Green Play are also very good too. The atomizer is uncomfortable to use—really short travel resulting in frugal spurts that run liquid on your skin... Odeur 71 does this too. You don’t have to worry about the usual Comme des Garçons weirdo scent shtick—this smells natural—no school bus fires, ethernet cables, or decomposing geological materials. Enjoy :-)

My signature scent for over 10 years now I adore this fragrance for its brightness. It is a tart cherry opening with warmth from saffron. It is not a heavy or seductive scent but it has great projection and staying power on me. The name is apt as it’s a lively, independent, clean and modern leisure fragrance in the best way. Discovered it in Copenhagen, sought it out when home as it stayed with me after sampling. It’s unisex and quite unusual still which I am pleased about. Consistency across many bottles purchased and it’s a fantastic day fragrance.

When you first put this on it smells exactly like Lipton ice tea out of the can. Even though tea is not listed in the notes there is no denying its presence in this one. It's not a bad scent but as a man I would really only wear this in close situations with a girl who likes tea.

a few other commenters have described this as 'tart' and that's exactly what it is. it smells like cranberry juice, which is fitting considering i love it so much i could drink it

Pink pepper, cherry, saffron—warning, warning, and more warning—yet they blend into such a refreshing berry-like scent! Tart and perfect for summer. I love it!

It's quite subtle. I get a lot of pepper at first and then some soft cherries come through. Honestly it makes me hungry. I need to go get some cherries...

I confused this with the other red Play from Comme des Garçons, which looks to be a lot less up my alley than this one, so it was a happy surprise to discover this wonderfully gourmand cherry fragrance instead. As others have mentioned, it's not as original as many others from this house, but to me that doesn't matter much at all, since it's so well-done and just plain nice. It's sweet and spicy and warm without going overboard on any of these aspects - a cherry-cinnamon syrup fragrance perfect for the colder months. I really like it, it definitely lives up to its name "Red", and I'm sure it can turn any gray day a bit brighter!

I like this fragrance a lot, though it definitely leans very feminine, which is why I'm getting rid of mine. I suppose in some way it could be unisex, but definitely not so abstract it's gender neutral the way some CDG fragrances are, like Rouge for instance, and most people including myself would probably see it as feminine. Otherwise it is a very sweet cherry smell. Slightly headache inducing as it is just SO sweet. Very pleasant though.

Red is a cold, tart, metallic cherry. Most other cherries are warm and boozy but CDG red is like a tart cherry licking a 9v battery. I like it better on my clothes than my skin because on my skin I feel like I can taste it. If you love cherry but feel like the warm boozy cherry pie varieties are only for colder seasons then this would be an excellent summer cherry.

Tart cherry and candied citrus - Im surprised by how much i like this, im not usually into anything heavily citrus but this is very fun - its tart in a mouth watering way.

Don’t come at me, but it somehow reminds me of that apple shaped Nina Ricci perfume, which I don’t like. I get cherry and rotting apple, and I don’t really get plastic which I was looking forward to. Not my favourite from the house. I get how ppl say it’s kind of basic. I prefer CDG green which is arguably more basic but smells better, however it’s longevity is very poor. Longevity on this one is def better.

Pepper is strong, don't get tea. Bought to wear to job where floral or unsophisticated would not cut it, needed to smell well groomed and happily used it daily even after job ended. Not a favourite, not my style, used whole bottle and wouldn't get again unless had to for a job in the future. Smells like pink peppercorns being ground down the hall.

something about this is very screechy and plastic and strange and reminds me of childhood. kind of a novelty scent to me– wouldn't buy a bottle of this.

I promising start of tart cherries and pepper but dries down to an utterly boring fresh floral office scent.

This was a semi-blind buy for me, because I confused Red with another fragrance from Comme des Garçons. I don’t hate it, but certainly don’t love it either. I can’t really put my finger on it. It does have that weird plastic smell, which I don’t know what to think of. The sprayer is absolutely terrible and hard to press, it distributes the juice in awkward squirts. For the price of £60 you’d expect better quality. As a whole Red is quite whimsical and a bit weird, but it doesn’t really tell a story. Something a pretentious teenager not on a budget would perhaps wear.

The opening is promising: sour cherry blasters & juicy mandarin. A few minutes later the cinnamon pops its head out for a brief appearance only to just as quickly fade into what's left for the duration of the drydown: 2000 flushes blue toilet water. That's it. I notice the more commercial fragrances have weak longevity, obviously so you go through the product quicker, but this is really too much smh.

Not bad, but it really doesn't impress me in any way. There's spice and fruitiness. Definitely cinnamon. It doesn't smell like perfume at all. I don't even know what to say, it's so plain somehow and it's not even the most unoriginal fragrance.

Play Red by Comme des Garcons is a very playful spicy-fruity scent on my skin. I almost had this fragrance confused with the now discontinued Play by Comme des Garcons. They share the same bottle design with a red heart and eyes, but they are two different fragrances. Do double check the fragrance name before buying either one of them in any kind of haste. This scent, Play Red, is all about sour cherries. There's something almost Christmasey about this composition, especially with the cinnamon adding that gourmand touch of spice. Comme des Garcons is a niche brand known for their quirky and unique scents. To be completely honest Play Red is not all that different, if anything it's a fragrance I can imagine appealing to the masses. It's sweet, fruity and spicy all rolled into one. Aside from the dominant presence of cherry and cinnamon, I do find Play Red quite peppery on the skin, with a hint of soft floral notes every now and then. The only notes that I find non-existent on me are the saffron and myrrh accords. The drydown tends to smell a little dusty, but for the most part Play Red is fruity and rich. I think it will appeal to women more than men, but I could be wrong. I'm now quite eager to explore the other Play scents in this range. The lasting power and sillage were unsurprisingly consistent with what Comme des Garcons usually offers in terms of quality. I'm glad that I got around to testing this fragrance after eyeing it for months.

This is what I love about Comme des Garcons they have a signature throughout their fragrances without ever being boring or a one trick pony. This to me has a blast of green, vegetable like top notes which then evolve into a fruity, sweet, spiced resiny beauty which has both facets of heat and icy coolness. The cherry note is hugely dominant and again I identified this straight away, without any prior knowledge of the note make up of this fragrance. However while being 'tested' by my girlfriend I was reluctant to say cherry, but did and felt vindicated knowing it was really in there. I often Identify that note in perfume and it's not listed examples like TM Pure Havanne, Burberry London and coSTUME National. Red actually shares the same transparent uplifting feel as coSTUME national but without the bitter souring of musk. Some hot, sharp notes from cinnamon and saffron works well with the cherry, the heart is incense like but subtly sweet with tolu and myrrh. It's nice but lacking a strong long lasting base maybe some stronger powder of geranium? or woods something just to give it more dimension. I really like Red though it's a lovely fruity smell which remains that way throughout only get down by longevity which isn't that bad but borderline acceptable. Worth checking out if you like anything coSTUME National and especially ladies who dig coSTUME National scent(Intense) this is along similar lines, without being the same at all.

I sadly didnt get much cherry out of this at all. And that was my main reason for trying this honestly. It has a candy smell to it for sure. But nothing to sweet. Im not a big candy eater but I see it being compared to one of those red hots candy. But perhaps thats also what im thinking of its been awhile. Again not very much cherry. I felt this smelled good in wiffs, but when I got closer just really not much to it. Just meh~ Kind of a tease in that sense. Maybe its that im sampling it, and to really get the full effect I need to dose my self in it. Was light on my skin, but longevity was good. Just ok for me. Not particularly fruity/juicy/or sweet. Just kinda felt like it was just "there" the whole time. It certainly smells "red" just as many other fragrances call to mind other colors like "purple" and what not. But if you are looking for a cherry scent I suggest elsewhere.

This scent is unisex. This person lives in a big city, owns a fast non-luxury car. House is extremely clean. Lots of white. Minimal decor consists of a 3 foot cement human heart coated with vantablack, 5 rare bearbricks, arquitectural books and magazines, marble incense holder and a crystal bowl full Hot Tamales and RedHots candies. Enter the closet: basic everything but most of it is expensive, androgynous, all monochromatic. Tessuto Prada trench coats, back packs, combat boots and reflective yeezys, all look new but are well used. Enter the restroom: Dyson purifying humidifier on at all times and spicy scent of freshly rinsed out bubbles of Marvis cinnamon toothpaste. This person loves Paul Oakenfold and the movie Parasite. The only social media they have is Instagram; it’s private and they never like your pictures and probably don’t like you either.

This is a lively, fun, spicy, cherry-sweet flavour that just lasts and lasts. It makes me feel good and easy going. It's a likeable fragrance that really could become someone's signature over time. I think the notes come together in an exciting way and I think it could afford an appeal to see you get away with it in various situations. It's easy to love and I think works for a variety of ages and characters though probably more at home with someone who appreciates their own individuality and that of others, is a little offbeat and wants something to wear that they can make their own. I'm glad I gave this a go, and look forward to having a touch of cherry and cinnamon to keep me vibrant throughout the colder, darker months.

Disagree with the assessments of this as "warm spicy". It opens up with a distinct sour cherry note, and dries down into a softer, airy yet spicy scent. It reminds me of how Vegas Hotel lobbies smell when you walk in from the pool. It's not a gourmand, or thick. Similar to most of the Play fragrances, very unique but easy to wear due to how light it is.

Entering a place where candy is manufactured. There’s grease, oil, metal, sugar, and candy. It takes off the cloak of pure happiness and reveals a certain reality. Initially the scent reminded me of a candy store where you get every artificial scent ever created culminated into one room. It’s beautiful and it’s real and it’s unique. Wear it? Maybe.

I'm sorry, this isn't a review. I'm concerned. So this replaces the old Play? It is one of my favorites ever. I have Play Black and I'm not a big fan. So naturally I'm scared, what if the old one is replaced by this and it's not that good.

On my skin it is a well blended and well rounded scent reminiscent of foods, sauces and etc. I'm personally not into this kind of scents and to be honest don't like to smell this way! Good longevity and projection. Overall: 3.5 out of 10.

Fun, very red, very bright cinnamon, cherry, soapy. This is a very NICE scent. Makes smiling easier. Like a soapy big red bubble gum, in the best way possible. Can definitely cloying you, so avoid front of neck.

Artificial, sweet & sour fruity fragrance with a little cinnamon added. I cant's smell any cherry here. I'd say it's interesting, fun & funky, young fragrance with personality. Perfect for spring, summer time.

i expected more of a spicy scent but its more citrusy, i get a lot of orange and berries. still a nice choice!

A very transparent, weak and light cherry scent with some spices. Nothing too special.

It smells like play dough and a cup of tea. Maybe some kind of earl grey.
