Standard

One of only two bottles i currently and have ever owned (alongside CdG's Blackpepper which i also really like). I don't wear perfume super often, usually only when I know I'm gonna be around friends, but when i do it's usually this one. I didn't think i liked perfumes forever until i met a friend who always wears stuff i really like. He's a huge CdG fan and especially likes their Wonderwood and incense collection. I was looking through his bottles with him a couple years ago and he said he didn't really like this one, but I tried it on and be said it smelled better on me so he gave me the rest of his almost full bottle. I had never smelled any perfume like this. At the time I didn't know it was supposed to be evocative of a woodworking shop, but i didnt pick up on that at all and i still kinda dont. Really I couldn't figure out exactly what it made me think of and that was what made it so exciting. I definitely thought of some sort of factory, metal and rubber hose, which i found surprisingly pleasant. Lemon pledge. But at the same time somehow foresty, vaguely grassy and woody. Simultaneously industrial and natural. I didn't know perfumes were allowed to do any of this! The balance shifts around a lot as it settles and I still pick up on something different every time I smell it which keeps it exciting. Very well balanced and no single element screams for attention. Once settled on the skin it becomes a subtle and fresh aura. I don't think anyone would really notice how odd parts of it actually are unless they actually stopped and paid attention to it. In my opinion very versatile and easy to wear. I don't think I would have bought something this cold and austere for myself, but I'm surprised how much i like wearing it. Bottle is really cool too!

Wood and metal. The school woodwork classroom, tidy and orderly. And an occasional whiff of Finnish Labrador Tea - one of my favourite scents of all time. FLT does not smell like a honeysuckle. It smells like pickled ginger with something metallic, something animalic. And with a salty edge - coarse sea salt, and some desert dust. Fresh and unique scent, I wish I could give you a sample right now. And it's not just the bloom, the whole plant has this distinctive aromatic smell. Actually, I picked my first bottle of Standard because the note list mentioned Finnish Labrador Tea. I don't get the aroma in the opening, but there certainly is a delicate, haunting whiff of it when the scent develops on the skin. One of my absolute favourites. The notes are framing one of my best-loved wood notes - humble cedar - so well. This is a great everyday perfume, uplifting and fresh, but with just enough edginess and unique flair. Very silky musk base makes it last for ages. It's clean, but does not smell like laundry detergent.

I think this might be my favorite "woody" scent from CdG, and that includes the most popular ones in Wonderwood, Sequoia, Monocle series etc. You could almost call this one Wonderwood Intense as it has a similar woody but balsamic vibe but really amps the cedar here, bolstered by the spicy ginger. On top there's this kind of incense like aspect, quite different than the incense line like in Zagorsk and Kyoto (that take them into a different category for me) but a fresh energentic incense more than a liturgic one. In the drydown it gets a little smoother with the unmistakable note of saffron coming to the fore lending a creamy aspect to the wood not dissimilar to a suede creaminess but with its own smoother feel, as saffron tends to bring. It lasts a good while, isn't offensive but is interesting and the minimalist presentation works well for this too. One of CdG's best. I backed up this one.

In its way this is quite outrageous, but it is brilliant, beautiful, high art. Early on the lemon and to a lesser extent tea notes dominate, accompanied from the beginning by pencil shavings - refined, arty pencil shavings in a studio or loft, somewhere. The allusion to the modernist wooden furniture of Artek is not hard to find, either. It is intensely refreshing, above all in hot weather, and can be worn in a wide range of circumstances. It has a certain coldness about it, but not to anything like the invigorating degree of CDG's Zagorsk. And the drydown first brings the woodiness of the pencil shavings to the fore, before accelerating into a gorgeous smokiness that takes ages to disappear. Standard this is not, it's something special, with its strength lying in its understatement and surprising complexity. I love it.

I'm finding it difficult to describe how this smells, but I'll try because it's such an interesting fragrance. To me it evokes memories of hot Scandinavian (or Finnish, I guess) summers in a birch forest or by a wood cottage in the mountains. I think it smells like stained wood heated by the sun - a kind of incense-y smell - as well as lichens on hot rocks, dry heather and earth. It is so well blended that I'm finding it difficult to separate the individual notes. I cannot pick out the ginger, but it has some spicyness to it. Very dry, not so green in my opinion, more yellow, if that makes sense. I think it's a beautiful scent, I even find it a bit moving and I don't know why I haven't bought it yet. As unisex as a pine chair. It is funny that such a unique and innovative perfume bears the name "Standard".

Smart scent, I totally love it! Original without beeing too odd. If you're into sharp/austere cedarwood and spicy (desweetened) ginger/lemon concoctions, you'll probsbly dig this. It has the overall minimalistic incensey vibe of many Comme Des Garcons. Someone could argue saying it smells like pencil-shaving, but hey....this is the best "pencil shaving" fragrance on the market. A very wearable, discreet yet charismatic fragrance for the laidback personality guys! My only disappointment is the lasting power (no more than 3-5 hours). GDG is confirmed to be amongst the best modern/avanguardist perfumes outfit. Rating: 7/10

I imagine Jesus probably smelled like this after a hard day's carpentering. You have to go in pretty heavy on it, as it's not very long-lasting. The scent of course and not Jesus, who actually had great silage and projection. I imagine this would get the Moms down the Sunday school asking questions about their own faith in god as they couldn't help but breathe in your Jesusy aroma. Is it actually a sin to want to smell another man like that? I think not.. CdG coming at us with yet another theological one!

I love this perfume! I’ve had it for 6-7 years and I suppose I can say that it has become my signature scent. Understated, unique and quite rare to find people who wear this! I love the clean wood blended with fresh lemon and ginger! Little spicy, very clean and light! I imagine modern library with Artek furniture! My only issue is the longevity ... can’t get more than 2 hours from skin, 3-4 hours from clothes out of this! :( But I keep buying this ... and keep spraying! :D

Standard is anything but ordinary. It opens with the sharp brightness of saffron and fennel with a cool metallic edge. The effect is striking — a medicinal liquorice tincture, equal parts herbal remedy and futuristic potion. Standard feels both clinical and comforting, an avant garde scent that lingers in memory long after it is gone.

Pine wood in a IKEA store. This fragrance evokes the pine and spruce wood of the taiga or nordic countries. Dry, crisp, woody with perhaps a bit of lime and ginger to round it off. Excellent, and unique. I think it leans towards the masculine side, and lasting power is average.

it is a beautiful clear perfume. On my skin I feel mostly very bright and a bit acidic white francenscense. Very natural and cozy though the scent has nothing sweet. Performance is moderate, but better than CDG/Monocle editions.

Good stuff. The concept of fresh wooden furniture is perfectly executed. A comforting smell that is similar to (and feels like) the comfort you get when opening a new plywood drawer to pull out old photographs or a book.

It smells like sugar and wood for me.

Perfumer: Christina Astuguevieille. Notes of lemon, labrador tea, twinflower, metal note, rust, fennel, watercress, ginger, saffron, dill, musk and cedarwood. The unisex fragrance was created in line with Artek studio’s brief on combining synthetic and natural elements. My first thought on smelling "Standard" was: a mix of "CDG Incense line" with "Hinoki" and then some deja vús of "CDG Synthetic series". "Standard" opens airy, slightly aquatic and synthetic with lemon and a herbal, metallic atmosphere with a smoky mostly incenseish tea plus a dry herbal finish that easily could remind you to a cammomile flower and conifer scents. The juice develops mostly clean, raw woody with cedar while the watercress and the gorgeous twinflower notes melt into each other bringing a delicious clean, floral blast, that will play around in the whole life of the perfume. I get some fennel and lovely ginger accent. The dry down is soft and posses a smooth finish; a dry, slightly floral, slightly green-incense-velvety pleasant scent. I like it very much. A lot. Ideal for a quiet, calm day: you staring indoors through a window, coily, feeling nice and warm while the world goes by. Again, CDG show us that It remains as the King regarding to scents based in a fantastic balance between natural and artificial components. Lasting power is reasonable, (no more than 5 hours) while it develops into a quiet skin fragrance.

The very eclectic CDG's take on the modern citrus musk (and a collaboration with design house 'artek') offers two Scandinavian ingredients that are unique to this class of perfumes - Finnish Labrador Tea and Linnaea borealis blossom in addition to the usual notes of ginger, lemon, dill, musk, saffron and cedar. The result is a light radiant beauty which is still very edgy and unique. This is a safe scent that can be easily worn around anyone and by either genders. Sillage and projection like most of the CDGs is moderate. This is yet another winner from the house that is at the cutting edge of modern perfumery art with very eclectic, contemporary, and abstract offerings. Very nice!

If you love cedar, "Standart" is the perfume you should try. The very masculine creation is perfectly suited for most occasions, but due to strong freshness of citrus and ginger "Standart" will suit warm weather much better. The quality is outstanding. Even though I did not get any tea I hoped for so much, I was pleasantly surprised by the complexity of this scent, cedar usually develops terribly on me, but "Standart" was a good exception. Longevity is excellent, more than 7 hours. For this type of scent I consider this a job well done by Comme des Garcons. Do hunt down a sample if you love cedar.

I dont know how they did this but they get my respect for this creation. Not for everyone and definitely not a mainstream designer fragrance but this is my 11th perfume from cdg so I know what to expect. Smells like a brand new - finished piece of wooden furniture polished with lemon pledge Dont know many who would want to smell like that but it reminds me of the coastal breeze in my hometown

Reminds me of the cleaning products my grandmother would use. Then it dries down to a smooth woodines. Office safe but I wouldn’t wear it to the gym personally. One thing I like about cdg is how fragrances like this go well when you’re deep in the city. Concrete and Black are good examples of this too. I choose this often when I want to smell good but don’t want to grab too much attention.

Dominant note for me is Japanese hinoki (cedar/cypress wood), and on that score it is better and clearer than the actual CdG/Monocle "Hinoki" fragrance, which is too confused for my liking. I like this scent a lot, even if it doesn't remind me at all of Finland. My only disappointment is that it is rather short-lived.

I get lots if incense, especially in the first 1-2 hours. It's like mixing fennel, green tea and incense. Very interesting, just like most CdG. Can be worn all year round as it's more of a woody-green scent. Lasting power: medium Projection: good for the 1st hour or so, then becomes a skin scent.

I can smell a lot of lemon for at least an hour, then it turn into a nice woody musky scent with a tea base. Not a fan on the opening, especially on my skin, but I quite like the heart.

All about rosemary on me. Rosemary on sunny day at some catholic church. Makes me feel calm (maybe too much?) but I think it's more masculine than feminine.

Aldehyde MNA to be precise. The same woody-waxy character is to be found in one of Miller and Bertaux's offerings, number 23 I think it is.

Aldehyde C12 MNA and not much else.

I don't know. I understand comparison to Heeley Cardinal and for me notes from Heeley more close to this one. I can't smell notes that are described here. Not my type and 100% not a sawmill

Clean and crisp but the opening is very synthetic, almost chemical on my skin. Almost gave me a headache. Got better after one hour when the cedar notes took over.

Only way I could describe this - citrus sweat. Weird but not in the good way CDG usually are, simply nauseating.

this is an incredibly dry, sharp, chemical smell, almost like bug spray or cleaning products. sometimes it’s a little funky or sour. dries down to plain old ISO E Super pencil shavings. There’s minimalism, and then there’s cynically half-assing it; Standard is the latter. Fennel? Honeysuckle? In your dreams, bud. You’re getting some “standard” woody aromachemicals and that’s it.

[JUNE. 2021] (One of the easiest avant-garde perfumes to find, its right here in the city of Brisbane at one's local Mecca. It's accessibility means anyone can try ^ ^) I love it! It's a good start for dipping your toes into the cold waters of the unknown, where art goes from here. Reason: Smells like a showroom with a hint of lacqeur polish and freshly unpacked furniture! It won't be as resinous or nail-polish until you dig deeper into the world of avant-garde scents but its a lot more evocative to me in man-made creations than CdG 2 (doesn't compare to my CdG 2011 Limited Edition EdP!) At least with Standard I get a sort of air of wood polish and ironed cashmere-ish object scents (on its way to fading off into nothing.) Very fresh, semi-resin myrrhy thing with enough woody bite and stone to satisfy budding, and established architects (and architect fans included.) Jump into the deep end with The Door by D. L. Roelen for an updated take of the very rare CdG 2011 if you're satisfied with the idea of smelling like a work of architecture yourself. Try Aether's Ultrae (vapor smell of hot TV screens, melting plastic and newly unpackaged store computer electronics) and Step Aboard's Bosco Sopeso (digital post-cryogenic garden in a 480-feet bio-organic neoprene skyscraper), and Barrois' Ganymede (first high-definition real-quality smell of a pvc-carbon printed-plexiglass spaceship!) If you dare! PS: The industrial / futuristic / architectural genre's really fun, especially if you're a jaded concept artist who, after years of academic and personal study learning historic classics, feels they've seen everything. Onto the future world envisioned long ago, now beginning before our very eyes, circa. 2020! What shall we, in our current generation, contribute from here?

Collaborations in which the respective collaborating or commissioning entities are also working with some sort of product that contains an olfactory component are challenging. Comparisons with the collaborators own products and expertise are readily at hand. In the last decade two of such endeavours stuck out to me, Hermès' Epice Marine (had all the chances to be special - everyone who visited Roellingers spice shop or recipes would imagine - alas it turned into a non-daring, Declaration version, the 15th ...) and as the other, a few years earlier, this set up between the Finnish furniture experts Artek and Comme des Garçons Parfums, which to me nailed it. A superb constellation of a very realistic wood workshop feels with a good dose of synthetic undescriptifness, which Comme celebrated best with their Odeurs since the late 90's. Along with Luten's lovely Chêne, Standard sits still on the top of wood-perfumes-done-differently, miles above a lot of log centred releases that appeared over the years - even including the brands own Hinoki or Sugi. Standard seems to be a perfected synthesis of many of Comme's tropes over the years, namely synthetic stuff and woods and that mixed with the imaginary Artek materials. The fact that it sits in a shrunken Odeurs bottle also makes much sense. Highest recommendation, particularly for colder days, in colder climates, cosy as much as alienating!

Commes des Garçons deserves my praise as a maison. They are always making audacious scents looking more into the concept of abstraction into their fragrances instead of marketing with safe fragrances and with Standard this is no different. Here the maison strikes again where from a partnership with a Finland furniture company called Artek emerged one of the best creations I have smelled in a long time. Christian Astuguevieille and Olivier Pescheux created the personification of wood furniture in a perfect way. Picture a small furniture workshop in a very traditional way and you will figure this fragrance out since it smells exactly like this. A work of art. Not for everyone, not for the average joe's nose. This is a well crafted gem that only a small niche of the market will realize the beauty it contains. Masterpiece, just masterpiece.

Another strangely different yet indistinguishable CDG, in the best way. A wood shop fragrance? No. It goes on smelling surpisingly dish soapy — think lemon Dawn, or Pledge — but calms down into a deliciously clean, fresh-gingery skin scent. Much more avant garde at first spray; if it stayed smelling like as much of a cleaning product as it does when freshly applied, I wouldn’t have bought it. However, hours later (and it lasts hours — I can smell it developing after 6 hours, which is nigh unheard of on my skin, off of which all my favorite fragrances seem to slide within 2-3 hours), it’s all bright, temperate spice, a kind of citrusy muskiness, clean woods in sunshine. Wonderful day to day scent that’s noticeable, but unobtrusive. I’d like to be next to me, smelling me.

So, on the opening i get some citrousy tea + ginger. In few minutes some kind of rusty metall note appears... Then, a dry woody accord comes up with the cedar. It is really good, different as some comme des garçons perfumes, but this one is easy to like. Good longevity. I would recomend. Also, it evoques the idea of decoration/architecture, as Artek is a finnish furniture brand! Masterpiece... Different from any other scent

Standard is fun little scent from CdG. As a big fan of Artek furniture this was a must buy for me. I think it is a spot on fragrance made for Artek as it is easily associated with Artek plywood furniture. Very woody and fresh fragrance that I usually use during summer. Performance isn't the greatest, but the price isn't too bad either.

You are a carpenter. You just finished the whole set of custom kitchen cabinets for your client. You now open each drawer to make sure the sliding mechanism works properly. You notice that the drawers still have a bit of fine sawdust inside and it tickles your nostrils as soon as you open them.

Interesting, musky, woody-citrusy fragrance. CdG knows how to put a twist on a fragrance. The twist here - ginger and fennel notes. I, personally, just don't care for fennel or watercress, it spoils the fragrance for me. Not my favorite CdG's but definitely worth checking it out.

Smells very similar to SERGE LUTENS Laine De Verre EDP Like a freshly pressed sheet. Breezy and fresh. A bit cold. Don't know what else to say about it really. Hang on, I've got it. . An early winter morning in London when the sun is shining, but it's still cold as fuck.

I was really hoping to smell the labrador tea in this one... I ADORE the scent of Labrador Tea and would love to have a perfume just like it. But this one isn't it... On me Standard is harsh and soapy, lemon-ginger-musk on a bed of softer cedar...

This is a good one for a guy who typically wears snapbacks, hipster glasses, a hoodie, and classic basketball sneaks. Probably has tattoos too. Very laid back, casual, hip, and metropolitan

All I get is the lemon and ginger. Which is fine, but it's not distinctive or edgy in the slightest. After a while, it starts leaning towards bathroom cleaner on me, which is a shame.

You have to have swag to pull this one off. You have to have that kind of classic street style thing somewhat going on
