Wonderoud

My signature scent, all time favorite. One of the best sandalwood frag out there. Not sure if anything can beat this. It is heaven. I'm on my 4th Wonderoud bottle, and I've used 2 bottles of Wonderwood in the past. Yes, Wonderoud is very similar to Wonderwood. The biggest difference for me is Wonderoud is more creamy compared to Wonderwood but they are both amazing full throttle wood scents. It is also similar in DNA to Floriental from same house. I think they just multiplied an amazing formula, according to slight differences of taste. Wonderwood is for clean/super dry cedar-pepper-vetiver-leaning, Wonderoud is creamier, warmer/richer version, Floriental is plummy floral and slightly powdery. This is also the top compliment getter, I've never been complimented more by strangers (most being females). I'm not a fan of dark, heavy oud, so contrary to the name, oud is so muted, pepper and other woods prevail. You will definitely get sandalwood, some black pepper, cedarwood, vetiver before oud. If you feel it's too dry, try layering with a little Azzaro Visit, to have a bit nutmeg. It works great in winter! Projection and longevity both are great with this one. Sillage is normal to me, but colleagues tell me they can find my exact spot in the building (Pretty sure it's Javanol/Pashminol combo). It is also one of the rare scents that I get olfactory fatigue (again, culprit Javanol and most likely Iso E Super). I've tested it so many times in my daily life, so many nights, with so many noses. I can clearly say that Wonderoud has 2-3 times better performance than Wonderwood. There's nothing better than Wonderoud lingering on your winter scarf, jacket even after a week... Ingredients I can pick are: Javanol (sandalwood) that lasts to eternity, check out EM - Molecule 04), Cashmeran (musky velvety wood, check out EM - Molecule 05), Iso E Super (airy radiating light cedar and musk, check out EM - Molecule 01, not exact but very close as Molecule 01 featuring the captive Iso Gamma, not Iso E) Pepperwood (captive black pepper molecule, used in CdG Blackpepper too and likely in Wonderwood, Blue Santal, Incense series etc) Vetiver, likely Vetiveryl Acetate (check out Molecule 03) p.s. It has very little similarity with Encre Noire IMO. As I said, you don't get burnt/dark wood/oud feels with Wonderoud. It is rich, subtle, lasting, and boosting confidence with a clean feeling. I adore this stuff. It has the supremely woody DNA of Wonderwood with its aromachemical cocktail, yet with a sublime, somehow mellow, "oudy" dimension that will be familiar to any aficionados of traditional Arabian perfumes and ouds. For almost seven years now I have been collecting oud and have been extremely fortunate to find some incredibly rare vintage ouds - the crowning glory is an Arabian Oud special edition that was matured for 25 years and came in a beautiful gold-plated bottle with a serial number. The recent obsession with Oud as a theme in Western perfumery always baffled me considering how incredibly rare and expensive authentic, quality oud is. And it is becoming ever scarcer. However there have been moves in places like Vietnam and Thailand to produce oud in plantations - however the techniques of manual infection do not yet result in anything close to the quality of oud produced by natural infection in the wild. Even most Arabian perfumers use either cheap, plantation-grown ouds or synthetic ouds these days and in the West, most of what is marketed as "oud" smells nothing like the real thing, which can range from a seductively sweet fine woody-floral bouquet through to a pungent blue cheesy-ness. Wonderoud reportedly contains some genuine oud, sourced from Givaudan, which makes sense since they are manufacturers of the Swiss Arabian perfume line, and the natural oudiness comes to the fore as the fragrance evolves on my skin and the "sharpness" of the initial ouverture diminishes. However, it also contains an obvious synthetic oud, which has a smell somewhat reminiscent of petroleum. Overall I love Wonderoud, and it features prominently in my current rotation, as does Wonderwood, as a staple for smart-casual occasions and informal events. Longevity isn't as good as I had hoped, although it is definitely a crowd pleaser and even elicits curiosity and compliments from strangers. I loved Wonderwood and I still do, and I find Wonderoud to be a beautiful complement to its woody awesomeness. Sometimes I prefer one, sometimes the other, but I love them both. Wonderwood for me answered a need for the superlative woody fragrance, and I have always found it to be supremely elegant in its simplicity. While far from the perfect oud fragrance, Wonderoud is a hell of a lot better than most of the other trendoid scents out there jumping on the Oud bandwagon.

Very nice refined woody fragrance. Start with a peppery/fresh cedar note, then transitions into a creamy floral oud note supported by patchouli, and will end with a nice spicy guaiacwood note supported by sandalwood. It gives gives a vague impression of soft dry tobacco and the drydown reminds me of OP Stercus’s drydown. The late drydown (8/10hrs+) will have a dry vetiver/cedar combo shine, with citrusy undertones. I am surprised that all these "expert noses" in here (who can usually detect unexistent Aventus or Fahrenheit batch variations) do not spot the refined floral papua oud (aka white oud - a different species of tree) contained here, even if not a screamer - but clearly noticeable - , probably because there is not much in here (CdG states to use "100% natural oud", and it's very expensive). Most are used to loads of synthetic oud-like note of cheap fragrances, or the natural (but way more expensive) bulldozer/barnyard-smelling indian oud. Anyways, a beautifully crafted woody fragrance, that inspire exactly the colour of the bottle. Moderate projection in the first hour, and then soft after that, with great longevity. Simple, but very refined: the Comme des Garcons "simple but avant-guarde" signature. Cold-ish days, 20+, unisex. PS: the full list of notes is as follow: Texas Cedarwood Fraction OrPur, S-E Asia Oud, Indonesian Patchouli, Australian Sandalwood, Haitian Vetiver, Guaiac Wood, Pashminol (synthetic sandalwood).

Beautiful wood but far from pure oud. Wonderoud is a beautiful woody scent the treads the line between designer and niche. It starts with a wet wood smell that lasts and dominates to the end. This woody oudy accord smells like driftwood mixed with sandalwood; not your typical oud oil. This wet woodiness is accompanied by a green and grassy vetiver, a dash of spicy-and-tingly black pepper and cloves, and a touch of green citrus note to freshen up the scent, preventing it from becoming 'inky' like Encre Noire. The resultant smell is deep, woody, green, with touch of pepper and citrus. The name here is definitely deceiving. There is no strong, perceivable, classic oud smell in Wonderoud. In fact, the "wet wood" accord it has is similar to the wet wood accord in Tom Ford Oud Wood that Tom Ford presented as oud, and those not familiar with oud believed it. Read (Andy the Frenchy)'s review on the Oud Wood Fragrantica page. Nonetheless, Wonderoud can be taken as an Oud Wood-inspired fragrance & frankly it surpasses its muse smell-wise. To further clarify; the oud accord here is atypical & I can see why it can divide opinions on its existence. Overall, Wonderoud is a beautiful woody fragrance, suitable for the mature and cold weather. Quite intimate rather than formal - lovely! Took me a while but I've come to "Love" Wonderoud.

Okay so I tried this today and brought some samples home. I really enjoyed the original wonderwood but felt it was a great but a little similar in spirit to Lalique Encre Noire to add it to the collection, still it's very nice indeed. Now the addition of Oud to this mixture of woody aromas and vetiver is either a bandwagon jumping one or a stroke of genius. I'm pleased to say I think it's the latter, this being CDG I have to say that generally they get it right and usual blaze their own trail. To begin with I wasn't sure, the opening is very similar to wonderwood but now with a feel of two stranger Oud fragrances one being AdP Oud colonia concentree and Tom Ford Oud wood (of which I'm not very fond.) that's my initial thoughts anyway. As wonderoud dries down though it reveals a very beautiful aroma which compliments the already excellent peppery vetiver of wonderwood. The lasting power is great I only tried it in the shop and can still smell it strongly now but I will update tomorrow when I wear it properly. Where as I'm not blown away by wonderoud I'm pleasantly surprised. Not a typical Oud to my nose but who cares?

This just straight up smells like CDG to me. It literally smells like when you walk into a CDG store and ask yourself: „What smell is this? Is this a mixture of all scents or just a specific store-scent?“ Nope, it‘s Wonderoud. I‘m not good with specific notes, so I usually just try to describe it with situations or compare it to other scents. Wonderoud is definitely one of the more wearable scents from CDG. It smells somewhat familiar, so you won‘t really get much of the oddness from other CDG perfumes. It‘s quite woody and is long lasting. I wouldn‘t say it‘s either day or night, but a warm summer night in a fancy restaurant would definitely suit it. It‘s like with most CDG perfumes - you can‘t really specify it to one specific group or occasion. My girlfriend loves it and so do I. It‘s not very versatile and pretty straight forward. You won‘t offend anybody with this and you might get some compliments as well! Huge downside: Unlike Wonderwood, it only comes in 100ml bottles, so you really have to like this before you buy it.

I love this fragrance... but I have a complicated relationship with oud. Like, I seriously hate how much it’s been overused in the perfume world these past 15 years. Now, CdG Wonderoud was my first encounter with oud—and you know what? It surprised me. It was amazing then, and honestly, it still holds up. It’s smooth, super approachable, and not at all aggressive. I think the secret is that it leans way more toward sandalwood and pepper than oud. It’s warm, sexy, and has that snuggly effect like "come closer”. I think "Wonderwood" is the better of the two, also, and I don’t see the connection with Encre Noire by Lalique, but they’re in totally different moods. Wonderoud is one of the more wearable scents from Comme des Garçons. It's woody, a little mysterious, and perfect for cooler weather. It feels more intimate than formal, like something you'd wear when you want to smell great, but not shout about it.

This is beautiful. Makes me feel particularly manly and rugged and outdoorsy. Like I've just been cutting logs. That said, it's also quite comforting. Very autumnal and cosy. I had heard CdG were a bit avant-garde so was initially a bit scared, but it's very wearable. Very dry, slightly sweet in a woody way. Very similar to the original WonderWood plumped out with a slug of oud, and all the better for it. In the same ballpark as Gucci for Men or its doppelganger Bentley Absolute. The full set of notes have all been listed elsewhere - suffice it to say that this is much more than just oud. Dominant ones are cedar, vetiver, the peppery guiaic wood, and very probably a tonne of ISO E Super. The eponymous oud is further down the line and gives it some depth, but it's an odd name given the amount it might contain.

Just to re re review this! I'm wearing it today for the first time in a while and I'm shocked that I didn't realise it before but Wonderoud not only smells like its underperforming and slightly poor older brother Wonderwood but it reminds me heavily of Versace Man and Oud Noir, can't believe I never noticed before. It has that same accord of licorice, slightly saffrony smell which reminds me very specifically of some type of sweets from when I was a kid. Yes peppery and woody it is but still reminds me of a mystery confectionary. For those who give this one a hard time, I don't know why? Even hardened CdG Lovers still aren't convinced by it...but let's face it it's much better than Wonderwood and even I thought that was fine until this came along.

This a japanese style and very zen wood with oud. Very woodsy calm quiet perfume with moderate to low performance. I like it because of its quietness and zen. It is linear and a boring, but I do pick up hinoki, incense, pepper, lots of sweet-ish resinous cedar and a tiny tiny amount of oud. It is like smelling inside of a new cedar guitar. Compared to wonderwood, wonderoud is more sweet and resinous and more inside of a guitar-like. Perfect all year around for the office, laid back dates. Not loud or bold though but people might feel calm within your aura once they smell it. I like it because its zen and calming qualities are not found everywhere (maybe aesop hwyl...).

And today Sunday, and I reached for CdG Wonderoud, what a reminder, wow, where to start, hmm.... Hitting the sense of smell with a beautiful, spacious ethereal, pepper, bergamot and ...literally nutmeg with agarwood give a super space for two meters minimum, juicy it is, and at the same time with wings. The incense is also addictive here, extinguishes with cedar. 6 hours, after that close to the skin, but yet when you come up for air you can smell it under the nose And that signature of Comme des Garcons , unmistakable. In my opinion, besides Lutens one of the best brands in the world.

Genetic Bliss is a superb fragrance, no denying, but in the air Genetic Bliss comes off as Wonderoud/wood clone with addition of Akigalawood (and instantly make one say it's either Quentin Bisch or Jordi Fernandez, in this case, Jordi).

I'm getting a really creamy, enveloping and inviting mix of primarily sandalwood with a bit of guaiac wood, a bit of cedar, a lil bit of vetiver and a non-animalic oud. The smell feels warm and inviting, melting into the skin and I can easily see myself wearing it all year long (mind you, where I live we get moderate summers. I'm not sure how suitable this would be in really warm weather). It's the kind of smell that I want both on my partner and on myself. Performance-wise it offers 4-5 hours of longevity with a moderate projection (lower end of moderate, I'd say).

This is addictive! Linear, yes, but it's a perfect everyday scent in winter for me. It does lack oud in its pure form. I simply get woody notes here with a splash of tobacco. It is very wearable, unisex, and the sillage doesn't scare people away. I finished my decant in a month which is an incredible speed for me, and I need a FB badly! It may lack personality, but it's a perfectly safe, comfortable fragrance to wear on those days when you don't feel like spending time contemplating what to put on today.

A balsamic woody with a hint of citrus. It's a fresh and soft woody scent with an oriental theme. The single note of oud listed definitely do not reflect the smell. Ironically, Wonderoud is not very oudy. I mean it is woody but not oudy. Just like you can't call every citrus note "bergamot", you can't call every woody fragrance "oudy". It is more sandalwoody than oudy. A very likeable scent, suitable for cooler weather and the mature crowd more. Performance was disappointing. Below average. Big "Like".

I love this stuff, its a super safe but unique amberey resinous oud scent with hints of patchouli and incense with some citrus on top. Its a great price at $140/100ml and performance is alright, im sure it will get better as it ages. Its really the linear woody scent i was looking for. One thing to beware of is the non-tester versions of all CDG fragrances do not come with stands, so it will not be able to stand up by its-self which makes me mad but whatever

Wonderoud is is a smooth minimalist, synthetic composition that is hard to unpack. Its a mono accord of vetiver, sandalwood, juniper and cedar from beginning to end. The effect is very spare, and zen like in it's simplicity. It doesn't smell like incense so much as it smells like you've been in a room where wood scented incense was being burned in abundance and some of it stuck to your clothing. Unisex, comfortable and very wearable.

The opening is very similar to Wonderwood but you can smell the oud straight away, then a blast of spices (mostly pepper to my nose) will lead the fragrance to a stunning guaiac wood base. It's very similar to the glorious YSL M7, perhaps not as loud, a little toned down, with a touch of pine resine. Yes, it bears similarities to Wonderwood, but to my nose is closer to M7... A great fragrance. Nice longevity and moderate projection.

One of the most beautiful oud fragrances that I have ever tried. I disagree with Whoever says there is no oud here with all due respect. The oud is very elegant clear and super refined. Gorgeous opening and All animalic sharp edges of agarwood were trimmed and you are left with authentic essence of oud and woods. The fragrance despite is so fresh and light. Safe, pleasant and very friendly. Extremely happy with the purchase. 10/10

Bought some things from Luckyscent and received this along with a number of other samples. I've tried about 5 thus far and this is my absolute favorite. I really like this. Now, that being said, the reviews here don't seem to dislike this - instead they compare it to Wonderwood and seem to find this something of a useless variant. So...I blind bought Wonderwood. If it's better than this, I"m really looking forward to it!

Stunning! Wore this today and fell in love with it. Peppery and has a signature CDG feel which reminds me of the other fragrance I have in their 'normal' range Blue Santal. I will definitely be getting this one, the Oud is evident but just adds an extra bit of luxury, a cherry on the top if you will to what is a great fragrance anyway. Longevity is very good too.

It's a great woody fragrance, but this has nothing to do with the scent of real oud oil. But then again, that's why you can wear this in public without any problems, where as wearing a pure oud oil might be offensive to some people. Since many people seem to compare the two: Wonderwood gets me more compliments, but personally, I like Wonderoud better.

Comme des garcons should be renamed skin scent. I absolutely love everything I've tried from them but they don't project or stay on the skin. They need to fix this problem because this scent is perfect but just evaporates like the rest of their fragrances. It's a beautiful spicy wood that is clean and warm.

Very nice. As has been written it is not a huge performer or very loud. More subtle, high quality woody fragrance. Didn't blow me away but my wife really liked it on me. Would imagine it would make for a great everyday Fall and Winter signature

The ultimate hi-end woody scent of 2014 - the pure gift from the gods to the mankind ( and exclusive for all "fragrancephiles" ). Just forget about all the other woody scents - the one and only Wonderoud by Comme des Garcons !!!

Reminds me of Wonderwood without so strong vetiver note. As I don't like frangrances with overwhelming vetiver, Wonderoud appeals for me much more than its woody "brother"...

A fluffy, warm blanket of resinous wood with a tad of clean, soft oud. Comforting, safe and 100% unisex friendly. Goes straight to my "spray and go" top list!

Beautiful frag. But if you already own Wonderwood, then you really don't need to bother with this one. Couldn't notice any real difference between the two.

Sexy, sexy, sexy. it's warm, fresh, nuzzly and with the softly smoky/spicy oud in the background. If my man was wearing this I would be all over him

This scent has a sense of déjà vu. Having tried WonderOUD multiple times, it is hard to think of this scent as anything other than WonderWOOD by the same house of Comme des Garcons. I bought and used WonderWOOD a while ago. I found the soft cedar woods and synthetic sandalwood undertones (read javanol), mixed with a really authentic black pepper note to be quite smooth and relaxing, especially throughout the coolder months. Alas, the love did not last long and I discovered WonderOUD by accident. The similarities are quite astonishing. The black pepper is a little more pronounced and the cedar and other woody notes (vetiver, patchouli and plenty of javanol or synthetic sandalwood) are all there. Others tell me (and yes that includes strangers in shops!) that they get an 'oudy' note coming off this one from 2-3 feet away, but I get no such vibe. Instead, the bone dry woods are much more pronounced in this scent compared to the aforementioned WonderWOOD. Whatever the 'oud' note used in this one, it is subtle, blended in very well and unlike any other oud scents available today. There are no sugary sweet or rose accords whatsoever. I put a tester card in my top pocket and I can get relatively strong whiffs of this one two days later. So the longevity is there, but it is either my skin type or olfactory fatigue not allowing to detect this scent in its full glory. That said, I think this scent would be superb for layering with other scents, oils or notes. I have had some good results experimenting with this and intend to get a bottle soon.

A refreshing, modern and edgy take on Oud with the eclectic CDG stamp all over it. Instead of going for usual rose or labdanum notes to sweeten the magnificent sillage of Oud wood, CDG takes an interesting fresh take by combining high quality Southeast Asian Oud with gorgeous vetiver, patchouli, sandalwood and cedar to create a juice that radiates the beauty of Oud with a sophisticated discretion. Probably the only masculine leaning Oud based fragrance you can safely wear to work, this resplendent beauty just shines on my skin. Moderate sillage and projection and fairly long lasting, this may disappoint many Oud purists but is a lovely juice nevertheless. It is indulgent and uncompromising Oud, yet it is blended so beautifully with discrete beautiful Oriental notes that the overall effect is that of reverent discretion and contemporary style. Enjoy!

Comme des Garçons under the Puig label is not Comme des Garçons anymore. I miss the risk they took on their first fragrances, even their classics smell more diluted and conventional due to the reformulations made by Puig. WONDEROUD is simply Wonderwood (cedar and synthetic sandalwood accords) with the trendy oud note added. It's bolder and more sophisticated and potent than Wonderwood, like a "concentrated eau de parfum" version. Otherwise, if you have Wonderwood in your collection I'm not sure if you need Wonderoud.

Wonderoud is one of Comme des Garçons very ‘safe’ formulas insofar as it’s not an olfactory experiment or daring statement like other CDG fragrances but is a simple and easy to wear soft and light Oud scent.... However, Wonderoud does seem to lack the bold personality of CDG and doesn’t have depth or warmth found in other Oud fragrances. It’s a pleasant everyday spray that’s a little different from the crowd but isn’t a game changer; it’s nice. If you want a bold and noticeable woody fragrance try Wonderwood.

If you have wood fragrances like, Oud wood or, Sandalwood ones like L'Occinate Province, or something like that, you don't really need this one. It's in the same vein as those, and I'd argue, those last longer than this one does. This one becomes very faint very early on and remains that way throughout. So, it's a nice one for the fall time but, It's not strong, and doesn't last too long. Good to try and decide to buy but for me, a pass.

I love love this perfume. The opening is a walk in a forest with nice black pepper notes that quickly fade into only woods. They are dry, a bit smokey; it's amazing. However, 30 min later it's gone! No matter how much has been sprayed, the scent stays very very close to the skin. I am very very disappointed by the performance of this one. If only it lasted longer this would be my favorite perfume in my collection.

I was expecting something more complex but I’d say it’s a straight forward woodsy scent. The opening was medicinal with what smells like almost patchouli or vetiver- but the woods pop out once it calms down a bit. I’d say it’s more for a gentleman than genuinely unisex. I like it but not for me personally. I think it becomes rather pleasant and soft woodsy musk once it dries down significantly

So much tree notes going on in here, but little to no oud. This is the holy wood fragrance if you’re keen on woods, so much cedar and sandalwood going on in here. It also really has some tree sappy qualities to it. I find it weird that many call this a very synthetic woods fragrance, I find the woods in this fragrance to be pretty and realistic. Leaning a little masculine, okay performance.

A very intense and dark wood fragrance with very little oud. This is a real performer though and projects heavily for 2 to 3 hours. If you want a higher quality and more sophisticated encre nior, then i would suggest this. I think Zino by dadivoff is still the best fragrance for the money in this genre personally. 6.5 out of 10. fall nights and winter days only and mature.

Reviewer below mentioned this smelling similar to encre noire, and I have to say I think it smells about 90% similar to encre noire a l'extreme. Like, soo similar, this one is just a touch less earthy. It's nice, enjoyable dry spicy woods with a hint of incense like smoke. Good stuff and well priced - but EN extreme is a lot cheaper and smells just as good if not better.

I have Wonderoud on my left arm and Wonderwood on my right, and it is clear that there is more Oud in Wonderoud. In fact, in Wonderoud i get a Oud that vaguely reminds me of the oud in Rania J's Assam Oud, but toned down and blended with the woods. This is most apparent in the top notes. Another quality wood from CdG!

This smells like an "extrait" version of Wonderwood to me. It starts with a fresh spicy citrus peppery kick, then opens up to a moodier dirtier (than sandalwood) woodiness. Similar progression as Wonderwood, but amped up at every step and the extra pepper and deeper wood make this more masculine.

I enjoy this one quite a bit. I find it easy to wear and I think would serve as a nice introduction to ouds. I find the oud in this to be gentle and balanced out by the cedar and sandalwood. I would consider this a safe blind buy and it's easily layered with other scents to add complexity.

Don't be fooled by the name. Hard to detect any oud here. Vetiver and guiac are much more noticeable, so it still works for me. Maybe they should have named it Wondervetiver? Very similar to Wonderwood, but I like Wonderoud more.

Gorgeous scent that I thought was going to be over powering but it’s not, far from it. It’s blended beautifully to give it a nice balanced and highly pleasant scent. There has got to be more than just Oud at play here.

The opening has way too much sharp blue in it, for me. It's medicinal, reminds me of eucalyptus. I like the calm woudiness (not a typo), and that the blue edge dries down to just a hint. It grew on me.
