Bois

I wasn't looking for any new fragrances but I happened to sample this at Sephora and was quite intrigued. On their website it's currently marked down to 40% off so I ended up paying $63 for it (original price being over $100). This fragrance is ALL WOODS to the Nth degree. On my skin, I smell mostly sandalwood and Angelica with a soft dry down of vanilla and it makes me happy! Bois (wood in French) is a very light, subtle fragrance (and the sandalwood IS very creamy). Non-offensive, elegant and smooth like the description says. Bois is very much an appropriate name for this perfume, but it's almost lacking. Bois just sounds so unimaginative and boring - this fragrance deserves something more creative. Not a great selling point if you ask me but that's just personal taste. I think you can wear this in the evening and during the day, as it sits close to the skin and doesn't leave a cloud of sandalwood around you, though not necessarily a bad thing. My only complaint with Bois is that it's longevity sucks. For me, one spray isn't enough so that it'll last all day long. No. It drys down fairly fast and settles almost immediately. Faded quickly. I guess, the only thing to mitigate early fading is to spray a few times before leaving the house because the fragrance is so light. It could also be my skin chemistry too. Iv'e noticed that Cedarwood and sandalwood (any kind of earthy, woody scent really) specifically tend to blend in with my natural smell and are masked easily. There's floral notes in here, but I honestly barely noticed them. The orchid and freesia appear briefly in the opening, along with pink pepper, and disappear after a few seconds. Maybe because it's a cruelty free mix? You can probably layer this fragrance underneath other warm scents. Nonetheless, it's completely sold out on Sephora's website right now, so that should tell you something about this fragrance. If you live in Cleveland/Akron Ohio area, I picked up my bottle at South Park Mall in Strongsville. Beachwood Mall sold out of their stock. If you're contemplating buying, just go for it (it's ON SALE!). Pleasantly surprised.

I'm surprised this was rated largely as feminine, since personally I find it as unisex, leaning masculine. It conjures up a scene of a romantic hike in the woods. It's an alluring, warm woodsy scent. Initially, you are hit with a spiciness that comingles with the earthy wood notes. As it dries down, a warm floral blanket embraces you. Finally, you're left with a musky sweet marriage of sandalwood and vanilla, but the cedar still politely lingers. I would love this as a candle which reading, or a comforting scent to wear to bed. As a girly woman, I wouldn't wear this during the day, but I could see this as a daytime scent on my partner. - IG@GoodBuyBonjour

Smelled this fragrance years ago in Sephora and decided not to get it. She was kept in the back of my mind all that time and I was so happy when I found out Commodity was back! Purchased a full size during Black Friday sales. It’s a perfect daytime scent, unisex with some woody floral notes and pink pepper. Layering this with a subtle vanilla bodylotion really completes the fragrance to make it lean a bit sweeter. I do wish the scent would linger a bit longer.

I was surprised with this scent. I expected it to be more woodsy but it's not at all. The wood notes are very mild on me. It's like a spicy floral, with a sexy vanilla and a hint tropical to me. If you like dark floral scents, musk, and sandalwood - then this is for you. Longevity is weak unfortunately, but it is a lovely attractive scent!

Smells very peachy to me & super fresh. Got it on a clearance. Definitely worth it on discount. Projection is very med but it’s more like a skin scent that I constantly bring my arm to smell. It’s soo good. And worth mentioning it can be worn year round as it’s not offensive nor strong

This is perfectly woody and powdery vanilla with a hint of spice. It’s such a comforting smell. Perfect for everyday use or as a bedtime perfume.

So I’ve heard through the grapevine that Commodity might no longer be producing fragrances in the future. If this is true, what a bummer! I’ve really enjoyed several from this line and have just discovered this one. I purchased this and restocked a few others today at Sephora as I saw most were massively marked down from their original prices. On my skin I detect primarily orchid and creamy sandalwood with just a touch meadowy green Angelica. It’s been a while since I’ve worn Black Orchid from Tom Ford, but this smells like I remember the dry down or maybe even a flanker of such from that line. I’m honestly not shocked that I liked this pretty much immediately when I looked up Bois on this site. I’m a fan girl of most fragrances from Frank Voelkl.

A warmer, vanilla take on Santal 33 without the odd notes. The opening has nice spice from pink pepper, settling into soft florals and warm woods. It’s pleasant and wearable. It barely lasts an hour. At $150, the performance is unacceptable. Nice while it’s there, but disappears too quickly to justify the price. 6/10

Clean, spicy, woody. Quite sweet and floral too, dry down is nice but longevity isn't amazing. I do love a good woody fragrance though. Most of commodity's line I find very agreeable. Its a more feminine version of Moss, or at least in a similar vein

It's a beautiful fragrance - floral without powder or cloy, blended with the sandalwood base - but it seems to last for all of an hour until you get the generic vanilla-and-woods base that Commodity is known for. Wish it would last longer.

in every form possible this is beyond good.i am so glad i swooped this during the sale. it is unisex, complex, sexy. this is an attractive in office scent. love it. wish i picked up an extra

mm i like this! its light, floral, yet woody; with vanilla to make it more rich and tasty.

I so want to love Commodity because I their style and concept are great... but I keep being seriously underwhelmed by their fragrances. This one is just... okay. It's a fresh breeze through the woods on a summer hike. It's nice... but like some other Commodity scents it's quite weak, and I don't feel it has much character.

I got it on the sale. I would say it’s a nice perfume, but it doesn’t worth the full price. I use it mainly after the shower or before bed. For me it’s a bit underwhelming for a day time scent. The longevity is very poor on me, max 3 hours. Nevertheless, it’s nicely blended, quite smooth and comforting.

Very sweet and rather weak. Would not say the quality matches the price although this line is somewhat more affordable. Wouldn’t recommend this unless you’ve smelled it and especially like it.

Smells soapy and spicey to me, I think freesia ruins perfumes for me.

I rushed into my local Sephora store when I heard that Commodity as a brand had decided to cease production. By the time I got there, all full-size bottles had been sold and only a select few purse sprays were still available. I made do with what I could and reviewed as many scents from this house as I was able. Bois by Commodity was the first fragrance to catch my eye. When translated, Bois means 'wood' and woodsy fragrances are one of my favourite genres. Bois is a subdued fragrance that wears more like a 'skin scent'. It is a beautiful, smooth and creamy blend of cedar, sandalwood, vanilla, orchid and angelica. Bois by Commodity is a little sweet, but not overpowering. Admittedly the floral accords tend to make this fragrance more feminine than unisex. The overall feeling that this fragrance conveys is 'silky' and luxurious. I would recommend Bois for daytime wear during Autumn or Spring. Its subtlety makes it an ideal choice for the office or dinner outings. I also find it soothing enough to be worn at home while curling up with a good book. Commodity as a brand is known for its minimalist approach to perfumery and simple is the perfect word to describe this fragrance. Despite its simplicity, however, this fragrance has excellent longevity and can last on my skin a solid 7-8 hours.

I absolutely freaking love this one. It layers so well with literally anything in my collection. In fact, I had Matcha Meditation Replica in my "declutter" pile for weeks not knowing whether or not I'm really gonna let it go..the jasmine in it was just over doing it. . I thought I'd try layering them together since Bois has "cedar" which is a note MM also has and lemme just say that the cedar in bois plus the cedar in MM really tone the jasmine down so much and now I love it. It just made it so much more enjoyable. Honestly amazing fragrance. So sad it's discontinued. I found my 100ml bottle for $29.99 at Ross and can see people are trying to sell the same thing for almost $200 on eBay. 🙄 Edit: while I love the scent profile..I have to admit the longevity issues alone leave much more to be desired. . . Plus It never got noticed and I am now In an Era where I want to be absolutely head over heels in love with a fragrance so I let them go.

Bois is beautiful, but very muted and discreet. This has less to do with its projection, which is impressive, and everything to do with the blending of its notes, which smooths all of the rough edges, and leaves each component's most approachable aspects in tact. After the initial blast of cedar and sandalwood, it mellows into a delicate balance of soft woods and florals, earthy angelica most prominently. There's something that registers as demurely "spicy", but the pimento and pepper insinuate themselves tastefully. It's a lovely, gentle everyday scent, but its real strength stems from its function as a beautifully woody base for more experimental layering. It's too understated to stand out as one of Commodity's more arresting scents, but alone it's quietly pretty, and as a base it's phenomenal.

Blind impulse buy today. The opening is very ALCOHOL-Y...but quickly ends and the notes begin to come out. I get creamy sandalwood..but not at all like Santal 33..btw. The angelica is for sure there....and soft floral-ish undertones.I would say this is a light woody aromatic. The nice part of this frgrance is in the drydown...woody/vanilla...with a pinch of floral. Nothing "amazing" here...but this does smell good !!

I purchased this blind. I love Commodity’s esthetic and especially love their Platinum collection. Bois is just as described, a soft woody fragrance. While I do like the fragrance, I wish it had a little more oomph. Longevity is ok, but sillage is very low. I suggest layering this with Molecule 01. Enjoy!
