Gold -

Do you work around other people? Do you have that one coworker who HATES perfume (those poor, miserable souls) and complains if they smell it? If you answered yes to those questions, but you cannot imagine leaving the house without a protective cloud of olfactory gorgeousness around you, Gold- might be right for you. The composition is unique, appealing, and ethereal with Iso E Super and vanilla taking prominent roles. The projection is intimate, but YOU will be able to smell it for several hours. Gold- is an office fragrance that doesn’t feel like a compromise. This is the fourth fragrance I've tried from the big discovery box and its the first one that is going on my "to buy" list. I'm going to wear Gold and Gold+ over the next two days, so we'll see if I need a bolder version soon, too.

Commodity Gold Personal is perfect on those days when you want to smell great but also want to be gentle with your nose. I love this take on vanilla—dry, airy, and warm. I adore fragrances and I have a lot of heavy hitters in my collection, but sometimes I crave simplicity. CGP is just that—relaxing and calming due to its minimalist aesthetic. It's the kind of fragrance perfect for a cool autumn day at home curled up under an afghan throw on the sofa with a good book and a hot cup of tea. It's also light enough to be worn in summer. I love it and for me, FBW. Just a heads up! Commodity is raising the price on all personal and expressive fragrances on July 11, 2022, so if you had your eye on a fragrance from one of these two categories, now is the time to buy.

Gold- was the first scent I was drawn to in the Commodity line, and I primarily get a cozy woody vanilla. I love to wear it around my house and it's very comfortable as a wind down for the evening. It sits extremely close to the skin, and sometimes I feel like I can't smell it at all even an hour after I put it on, but it ends up still being there. It's just very subtle, unlike some of the other vanillas I've approached lately, especially Vanilla Skin. I don't find any of the base notes suggested here--no nutmeg, saffron, or patchouli.

Beautiful, soft, almost addictive at first spray. Doesn’t last long, but it is the personal version. As a person who dislikes iso e super, the use of it in this fragrance is delicate and smart, barely there note that enhances the scent. Smells like soft light, warmth, comfort. Not cloying, light a delicate sun ray.

I will say I like the personal quite a bit more than the bold- the green/pine-y notes are toned down but the juniper definitely still comes through in a very pleasant way- it's more well-blended than the bold imo and just sits better on my skin:) Perfect f/w everyday scent!

Gold Personal is so powdery, ethereal, and comforting. It is a very light vanilla and on me mostly Iso E Super. This is my out of the shower, going to bed, or when I'm sensitive to fragrance. I also use this as a base for layering instead of Paper.

Sweet and warm. The wood notes feel like an after thought. You’re hit with sweet upon first sniff with a touch of patchouli. Mostly vanilla/ marshmallow

I just got a sample of this, and before even spraying it, simply taking the sample out of its mailing package, my husband was smelling the powdery/ambery note from about 8 feet away. (Not that he found it unpleasant, but he normally has a very dull sense of smell, so this was surprising!) So I would rate its initial sillage as quite high, but that seems to calm down fairly quickly after application. I like the fragrance, but unfortunately as soon as I sprayed it on my wrist the skin began to itch and burn. I don't normally have very sensitive skin, and I'm really curious as to the ingredients which may be causing this. (On the other hand, I haven't worn perfume on the wrists in years, and in those intervening years that area of my arms has been exposed to a lot of nasty chemicals in an occupational setting, so I still intend to try it elsewhere on my body to see if the issue is a whole-body thing, or if perhaps the skin of my arms has simply become supersensitive.) I've read that ISO Super is a known allergen, but I suspect that if that were the culprit I would have noticed a sensitivity to, say, my fabric softener, as that ingredient is so ubiquitous on non-perfume applications. But the fragrance itself -- just lovely. I'm not sure what I was expecting, but it wasn't something that lives this close to the skin after only an hour or two, nor something which smells so warm and clean and somehow nostalgic; I think perhaps my mother used to have a perfumed dusting powder of which this is reminding me. That powdery amber note is quite dominant, but not in a bad way at all, and it doesn't smell cheap or "flat" the way many fragrances with that predominant top note seem to all too often. It is utterly non-offensive, not obnoxious or even a little bit challenging, I think this is something many people who don't consider themselves to be perfume nerds would really enjoy. Personally, I prefer scents that are a little more complex, but this is one I would feel perfectly comfortable wearing in a setting where I would be close to people whose perfume "tolerance" I don't know.

whoever said gold- is paper-‘s sexy best friend is almost right. gold- is paper-‘s gorgeous, ray-of-sunshine partner, and paper- is the ordinary, button down, absolutely smitten boyfriend. paper- to me is very masculine, but comfy and everyday masculine. nothing too wild, just a simple, good guy smell. jim halpert-esque. but gold- is a warm, inviting scent. it’s nice and spiced, but not so spiced that it reads christmas-y. iso-e super always smells slightly bandaid to me, but like in paper, it’s not necessarily bad here in gold-. this scent smells very thick to me. if it had a texture, it would be yogurt. not to say that it smells like yogurt, or that the scent is thick in that it’s strong (it’s actually a very quiet scent), but rather, the scent is very deep. vanilla custard in a tall glass, with spices on the top. i’m not catching any juniper like some others mentioned. gold- is a great everyday scent if you want to smell cozy and attractive and put together. she’s elegant and subtle, but approachable. i think it’s a unisex fragrance in the sense that it neither leans feminine or masculine, but i don’t know if many guys would want to smell like this. i would want to smell a guy who smells like this, though. the vibes: the girl in your one lecture hall that just seems to light up the room any time she’s in it. a comfy cable knitted sweater with an elegant updo. a warm hug on the balcony of a ballroom on a chilly autumn evening. drinking spiced eggnog in a fancy glass, but wearing your pajama pants.

Testing notes: I'm working my way through the discovery set. Gold - is powdery, musky, cuddly and warm with a hint of sweetness. It's not a foody kind of vanilla. This is an amped up skin scent with extra dimension and a lightly warming, ambery base. Totally a "staying in on a rainy day" or "cozy night in" kind of scent, because it doesn't overwhelm or project too much and yet I can still smell it on myself. Would also make a nice layering scent to add a vanillic touch. Haven't made up my mind on how the longevity is though. One time I wore it and it lasted okay, and the other time it seemed to disappear almost instantly. It's a nice scent, but I'm not sure it's worth the price for a full bottle. More testing needed. ETA: I used up my sample and it is a lovely scent, but I don't feel the need to add a bottle to my collection since I have other vanillas that last better and have a bit more complexity

Breakdown of notes is different on the brand's website so will go with what is there, not here. If I had to describe Gold Trio in 1 word, that would be a bit tricky as it is not as consistent as some other trios are from this brand. Gold Personal is a soft and delicate fragrance. I'd say it's an airy vanilla with warmth from woodiness. I feel that this fragrance best shows intention behind a personal range. It gives this feeling of your skin being like an airy vanilla with soft warm woodiness. Got same experience on a tester strip and on my skin. It starts with Iso E Super then moves to soft vanilla note. Lasted good 3-4 hours on my skin. My favourite from the Gold Trio. Gives me similar vibes as Milk Personal. Need to compare these two.

Smells like: 🍮☁️🕯️ Reminds me of: Sharing a decadent vanilla soufflé with your lover by candlelight. I love that if you love one of Commodity’s fragrances you are very likely to love another. Gold- is like Paper-‘s sexy best friend. Paper- is the soft and comforting every day fragrance, where Gold- is that little extra oomf you need when you want to be noticed. It’s such a basic but delicious gourmand fragrance. The Iso E Super takes it to the next level to make it even more personal than just your regular every day vanilla perfume. This is a gourmand I can see myself leaning to again and again. The smoke, sweet, and musk of this fragrance makes it so diverse but also so specific. It leaves only one thought in my mind - “I need it”

I was surprised at how much of a skin scent this was despite reading all the reviews. I like it, I find it compliments my body chemistry well. When I first sprayed it, I had BBW Vanilla Romance body cream on, which over powered the perfume. I could hardly smell anything. I tried it on bare skin today and I do like it! But not enough to justify buying a full bottle. Reminds me a lot of those skin scent pheromone oils (persian garden, etc) and I love Iso E-Super so I'm still happy with it. Would be great for layering. Overall verdict: I like, but too weak if you're going for something that will stand out. This is very very much an intimate skin scent. A very cozy and pleasant one!

Clean sweet and lovely. I want to comment because I really really appreciate how purposefully they formulated this to stay close to the skin. You can tell it was intentional not because they made a weak fragrance or couldn’t manage the ingredients. This lasted a long time on my skin, it was strong but it was like a force field cut it off from projecting. Having a fragrance like this is essential to someone’s wardrobe for practical use in day to day life, whether you’re a fraghead or not. The scent itself could be a signature scent as well. I love this for what it is. This would be a great gift idea.

Very much Iso-E heavy which is a recurring theme throughout this brand, but I'm not complaining. I love Iso-E and other molecular scents. Gold (-) is a beautiful, dry, woody-ambery whisper on the skin. Faintly chemical if smelled up close, but that's what Iso-E does, no? I think I like Paper(-) better than this one, though, for a Personal scent. It seems more airy and ethereal, whereas the sandalwood and vanilla drags Gold (-) into heavier, sweeter territory. Like golden glitter in warm sunlight. I really enjoy this iteration of Gold and could totally see myself buying a full bottle sometime. 9/10

This fragrance is Iso E Super and vanilla. In fact, it is a personal (-) fragrance. It is a warm scent, more appropriate for fall and winter. Office compatible, I like it. Comparison: * Gold Expressive: a warm vanilla wrapped in creamy sandalwood and molten amber. For Vanilla lovers! * Gold - : Gold Expressive with ethereal Iso E Super for a personal rendition. Soft! * Gold + : Bold version that exudes spice and heat with nutmeg, saffron and patchouli. Spicy! The best for me? Gold Expressive for fall and winter

Gold- is SO much better than the original Gold. The vanilla is warmer, less waxy. And I find the iso e super actually gives Gold- more longevity and better sillage than the "Expressive" original Gold. Of all the new "Personal" white versions, Gold- is probably most similar to Paper-, but Paper- is much more harsh and sour. Gold- is the best of all 3 Gold versions, by far. An easy, warm skin scent.

I really like this, but unfortunately the lasting power just isn't there for me with Commodity scents. This one is gone in 1-1.5hrs. I've reapplied the sample 4x today. I like it, but it's not worth the money for me. I've gone through 2ml in 8 hours. I have many other vanilla perfumes with similar note profile that last better than this one for half the price.

Gold is quite a heavy fragrance, in my opinion, full of amber, spice and vanilla. The Iso E Super helps calm this down into a daytime, office type fragrance. It doesn’t last a long time (I’d say a few minutes!) before really going into the “pencil shavings” of Iso E Super, but it is a pleasant fragrance that suits everyone.

A really nice vanilla skin scent, but not worth the money. This only lasted 1-1.5hrs on my skin, and I ran through a 2ml sample in 1 day with multiple reapplications. Not just nose blind to it either.... my partner couldn't smell it either when I asked him to see if it was still there after 3 rounds of reapplication.

Gentle, calm vanilla. Vanilla, sandalwood, and iso-e super. I don't get patchouli, nutmeg, or saffron at all. Quiet, comforting fragrance. If you are looking for a soft, non-sweet vanilla, this would be a good fit as long as you don't mind iso-e super.

Soft woody vanilla, with just a hint of spicy leather from the iso-e super. Using it as a bedtime scent today, and it seems to be just perfect for this. Not a love, but a like.

Very similar to Gold expressive but this has a cold air/dragon’s breath lightness to it. Assuming it’s due to the iso e super. All year rounder.

Cosy, woody vanilla. My favourite of the Golds, as its less sweet gourmand.

Given how Commodity is doing the whole personal (-), expressive, and bold (+) thing, it makes sense to compare them side by side and provide one review for all three. While I prefer to test blind it's hard not to notice the names, but I haven't looked up the suggested notes or read any of their literature. With GOLD, because of how similarly named fragrances I've been exposed to are mature, oudy, incense, and amber rich, I'm expecting something in the same light. What I get is a variety across the three. The intimate is more gourmand, like their MILK fragrance, with vanilla musky sweetness in the opening. It dries down more woodsy though. The expressive has a tiny amount of similar undertone, but is more amber with juniper or something bright at the top in the opening before settling down. It also has the slightest bend towards being feminine with the tone of the musk. Both the minus and expressive dry down into a similar incense-woodsy tone. The plus is far more in line with expectations, with a complete shift to a larger woodsy and incense-like body, whose tone also just leans into a more feminine air. Looking at the notes, I admit I'm a little proud of myself for getting some spot on testing these blind. While the vanilla runs through all, it's only distinct in the opening of the intimate, otherwise it hangs in the background. The amber, sandalwood, and Iso E notes are really what you get, and blend to project the slight incense feel, while different notes like the juniper, nutmeg, and saffron characterize each further. The intimate and expressive performed as expected, while the plus outlasted most of the day. Overall, gold is a subtly rich fragrance - getting close to, but not quite reaching - its name, where others similar in name or branding outshine it. But this gold remains a fair market value given its price point, the plus shining brighter than its siblings.

I get a very ambery saffron situation here, reading much more masculine to me than other reviews suggest, which is unusual given my personal bar for “masculine” sits well right of centre. Commodity does a particularly pleasant, cosy musk, and there’s definitely one anchoring this. On my skin it’s spicy saffron and amber first, with the vanilla always staying a bit too polite. I wouldn’t wear it without layering another vanilla on top, but it is nice. The dry-down turns very warm and soft, far more blended than the spicier middle would have you expect. If you like Grand Soir, you will probably like this.

This one feels like the gentle ghostly sibling of Paper- : almost like Casper. Once again, I find myself anosmic to ISO E Super, though I can just about detect a faint juniper and vanilla in the background. They’re so soft, barely there... It’s very much a YSBB kind of scent, even more so than others. For some reason it also reminds me of Liis by Bo; not bad at all, but it simply doesn’t move me. Extremely soft and unobtrusive; a gentle choice for those drawn to the airy whispers of vanilla. Tag(s): ISO E Super, airy vanilla, YSBB

I could have guessed from the "personal" scent space description that this wouldn't be unique or amazing. I was still a little disappointed. It's pleasantly sweet with an airy warmth from the Iso E Super. That's it. No depth, nothing interesting. If you are looking for a skin scent that's on the sweeter side and isn't musky this would be a nice try. My only use for this would possibly be layering it.

lovely but i wish it lasted longer. it's been about 2 1/2 hours since i sprayed it and all i smell is soft pencil shavings (in a good way if that makes sense? but wish the vanilla lasted longer). scent-wise very similar to the Expressive variant update: wore it a second time. it's only been about an hour and i get the pencil shavings.

I know this is supposed to be a personal scent, but I really wish it was a liiiiittle bit stronger. When I am able to pick up on the scent, I really like it. I think I like it more than the other gold perfumes, even. It has a more clean aspect to it. But I won't be purchasing because I can hardly detect it.

It's a sweet and woody vanilla fragrance - a nice scent, but nothing revolutionary and disappears on me almost immediately. Edit: the iso e super makes this surprisingly similar to Paper minus from the same brand, I definitely find paper much more appealing though.

Much more woody than I was expecting. Lots of cedar with a bit of vanilla. The drydown smells just like Molecule 01, and as expected from ISO E Super, it lasts a long time. I come to Gold for the vanilla and amber so this one is my least favorite of the trio.

All I get from Gold- is ISO E Super...so it smells just like Molecule 01 to me. I hope that's not what I get from all of the Personal line of Commodity fragrances. I really like Gold and Gold+ though.

If you’re sensitive to perfumes this wouldn’t be my first recommendation. It smells really good after it’s settled onto the skin, but I find it super strong right out of the bottle :/

Soft, cosy, woody, sweet, and creamy, but definitely the most subtle of the Personal scents. A lovely vanilla skin scent, but just too quiet on me to make any real impression.

This was kinda nice. To me it was the lightest, most subtle scent in the Personal kit. I didn't love it enough to buy it.

This is an exact dupe to Santal Vanille by 7 Virtues. It’s not my favourite kinda makes me feel queasy.

This smells so much better than the other two. I wish it wasn't so weak on my skin. :/

A vanilla sultana. Very inoffensive, but it smells better on paper than on my skin.

Something in this makes everything smell off, like leftover sour wood shavings at an industrial facility under construction. I am also reminded of mothballs. Second skin test still yuck, total scrubber.

To quote the pamphlet: “a whisper of the original.” Very faint and almost chemical. This smells like vanilla flavoring. Like a compound you would put in cheap vanilla ice cream. Ew.

Reminiscent of water that has been soaked up from a wooden plank and bottled for sale. It is a disappointment for me.

No it doesn’t smell like Santal Vanille. Santal Vanille smells like No.4 Bois de Balincourt. Gold personal smells sticky. It has that woodiness kind of similar to when Radiant Nectar turns bad lol. This perfume isn’t bad tho. It just needs to match certain type of wearer. I own all 3, of course I like the expressive one the best just like the most of us here, but personal isn’t bad at all to use for fall. I don’t like the bold at all. Too strong, not for the faint of heart. Personal is a really warm scent. Is it comforting tho? Not really. More like for dressing up / going out perfume. Someone who wears black turtleneck and a nice coat in a cold weather. Serious, not smiling, straight to business. Something about this tho that I keep smelling it in my arm. Overall. Pretty sad with reformulated Commodity. They don’t last long. I miss the old ones like the ones in archive collection bottles.

So this has great longevity on clothing. I sometimes wear it to bed, and I can smell it on my pajamas days later when I take them out of the laundry to wash. It smells like you turned Babycat into a marshmallow, and is by far the best of the Gold fragrances. In fact I find all of the "Intimate" Commodity fragrances smell way better than their counterpart scent spaces. This also happens to be more marshmallowy than Milk, which is supposed to have marshmallow notes. This is my favourite of all their fragrances. I wish they'd take this and give it more projection (which I suppose defeats the purpose of the Personal range). I think the sourness people get is a slightly picky sandalwood note, but as someone who hates pickle sandalwood, this one reminds me a little bit of how it smells in Cheirosa 59 - slightly yogurt-y, so not entirely bothersome, but don't blind buy for that reason.

This is my favorite of the Gold Scent Space collection. Definitely a healthy dose of iso E super, which is nice. Linear, lightly sweet and airy, vanilla. Very soft, inoffensive, decent longevity made in America and easy to find coupons for the company. I also have Clean Reserve Skin which has a nutty and almost buttery note to it, which is more gourmand than this. Some don't like the praline note of Clean Reserve Skin, so this is a good alternative. Update: been wearing all day and really appreciate the wood/vanilla balance of this which keeps it from getting juvenile. A "dry" vanilla with an almost powder/dusted sugar quality to it. Definitely could be very useful for those that like to layer fragrances. That being said, I don't think this is full bottle worthy, I just prefer Clean Reserve Skin much more.

Warmer than I expected. Hard to say which note is the most prominent, on my skin it opens strongly with a vanilla extract smell but that mostly dissipates and im left with a warm, airy and smooth woody amber. Completely unisex, not challenging at all. Its simple but done nicely, theres also not much spice or too much sweetness so its very versatile and could be worn year round as well. Sits in the same category of woody scents as sandalwood temple, im surprised its not in the reminds me of section. That one is heavier on the sandalwood and florals but theyre similar in smoothness, warmth and depth

My favourite out of the 3 scent spaces for Gold. Super light & fluffy vanilla. Dries down light but woody. Also has a lovely soapy dry down (I think this comes from the Iso E Super, which surprised me as I wasn't a fan of any of the Molecule scents) which I love. As someone headache prone, I lovee this vanilla option. I found the Expressive version slightly too cloying. If you're a gourmand girly, I'd say expressive might be more for you.

Dry, papery, vanilla. Cozy and soft. Incredibly similar to Gold expressive, but the iso e super makes it smell like paperback books. I personally prefer Gold expressive, but this is also a compliment getter. Gold bold, on the other hand, smells like a brand new coffee table book because it's smokier and has note that is reminiscent of glue.

I got curious enough to buy a sample set of all Personals, even tho Bolds are my faves among the Gold, Milk, and Velvets. I ADORE Gold Bold, but can't get behind the Personal or Expressive- they are just too weak. I appreciate the light airy pops of sillage as I go thru the day, but it's not enough for me personally.
