Moss -

Smells like: 💧🍋🍃 Reminds me of: Taking a walk through a citrus orchard in early spring, the morning after a late night rain. The grass is still wet and there is dew forming on the insides of my arms. I can feel the cool air chill the back of my neck. A slight breeze picks up and I can smell the cool bright citrus sparkle, reminiscent of a bubbly Citrus soda. The notes in this fragrance are bergamot, oakmoss, petitgrain, and skin musk. Like almost all of the other commodity fragrances that I have tried. I am absolutely obsessed with Moss-. It’s such a cool, beautiful, sharp citrus scent that is simple and fresh. I love how unisex this fragrance is. It doesn’t lean one way or the other, but it falls perfectly in the middle so it can be easily fallen in love with by anyone and everyone. I'm not the biggest fan of citrus scents as they can become overwhelming as I wear them throughout the day but moss dries down to such a beautiful skin musk thanks to the Iso E Super that works so well with my skin chemistry. The only feedback that I could give is that I don’t think the name Moss gives it any justice because this is such a light, bubbly, citrusy bergamot fragrance that isn’t necessarily captured by the name. But alas, I am still in love.

to me, this smells like sparkling dewdrops in grass on a sunny, slightly chilly morning. it doesn't smell personal, but that's what i like about it. on my skin it's rather linear, but it also lasts fairly long on me (5-6hrs). it's light and refreshing, and the moss and patchouli ground it just enough. in particular, i love the slight bitterness of this. after my sample ran out, i got a bigger size because i just missed it too much.

crisp, clean, citrus, moss. a tiny bit of aqua and peppery(?)-ness comes through as it dries. i love, love this scent. when they say it sits close to the skin, it sits *extremely* close to the skin -- also it disappears on me after an hour or two :( honestly i wish i could smell it a bit more & that it lasted a bit longer because the scent is basically perfect to me.

smells great, i love it but it unfortunately doesn't last but a couple of hours on my skin before completely disappearing. smells very similar to Giorgio Armani Acqua Di Gio eau de parfum to me. can't really justify the $145 price tag as there are plenty of fresh, citrusy, clean fragrances for less than 50 bucks but at least it smells great.

This is so underrated. On my skin, it has a perfume-y musk base that takes this from just okay to an absolute love for me. It’s green and citrusy and blended to absolute perfection. This might be my favorite from the personal line.

This is the scent of new Apple products unboxing. It doesnt project much, fades after about 2 hours, but it has that distinct smell and I really love it!!

Given how Commodity is doing the whole personal (-), expressive, and bold (+) thing, it makes sense to compare them side by side and provide one review for all three. While I prefer to test blind it's hard not to notice the names, but I haven't looked up the suggested notes or read any of their literature. With MOSS the expectation is green and earthy. I find all three to have less of an earthy feel, and more or a damp green plant feel with a bit of morning dew coolness. Minus opens up more sweet and citrusy, with a mild coolness. The expressive has an element of citrusy but not as bright with a tinge of herbaceousness. And the plus shifts to an ambery opening with a hint of wood. All three are lovely and the green element is like a fresh tea leaf. This makes me think of bright green moss in the morning, where water droplets coat the vegetation. Moving through them in sequence you do very much get the sense of approaching, walking into, and walking deeper into a moist forest. Looking at the notes now the bergamot in the minus stands out the most with the green laying underneath. For the expressive, it is the orange blossom and eucalyptus that add some nice layering that is not (as) present in the minus and plus. Similarity, woodsy tones are added but they are not obvious. The plus clearly adds a resinous bass, a bit more wood, but stays within its roots. The oakmoss is clearly the scent keeping all three tied together. Their overall effect providing a more clean and fresh damp forest vibe that is pleasant and unisex. You could argue the plus begins to lean a bit masculine, but only such. The longevity was ok. Not bad but not as expected. Only plus hung around a bit longer. As much as I like MOSS, I can't decide if I just like the fragrance for myself or just want to smell it around me or where I live.

Much like the Expressive version of Moss, Moss - opens with a bright burst of citrus from the bergamot. However, it's more subdued when compared to Expressive Moss. And it progresses through the mid and the dry down much the same way. The bergamot mixes with orange blossoms and white florals backed by the woods from the oakmoss and cedar. The biggest distinction here between Moss - and Moss is that the woods are a bit softer. Not that they are particularly loud in Moss, but the woods in Moss - are dialed back and I think that gives the fragrance a softer more intimate feeling overall. Moss - is a fresh, airy, and clean scent that is essentially a lighter take on Moss. I know that is what Commodity is going for here and I really think they nailed it. I enjoy Moss so Moss - is a fantastic fragrance in my opinion. This is perfect for a fresh out of the shower fragrance or just casually around the house on a hot summer day. It could also be a wonderful beach fragrance for a day hanging out in the hot sun or laying out by the pool. Nothing about this is offensive or overwhelming. And despite having less projection when compared to the other versions of Moss, I get about the same performance and it lasts about 8-ish hours on my skin.

If you name a perfume “Moss” then it should really create a mossy aura. But here, it feels more like a poor little oakmoss baby hiding timidly behind a veil of bergamot and green freshness. This oakmoss baby is crying out from the back: “Mother... when will I finally grow up and leave the nest?” Yet the bergamot (like an overbearing mother) perches on top of the baby, not letting it go. Still, it’s a beautiful scent. I know I’m turning this into a bit of a playful drama, but I can’t help it. If it were more mossy, it would be even better. As it is, it’s very calm, but still quite lovely. In the drydown, I once again picked up a petrichor vibe. The signature of this series was the addition of "skin musk", but in some of them I also sense petrichor. Tag(s): Fresh, green, petitgrain, slightly-mossy, melancholic

The opening hits you with a nice "bite" of bergamot citrus. It’s sharp and refreshing, but it quickly settles into a green, slightly damp, earthy sensation. It’s not a "dirty" earthiness, though; it’s more like dew on the leaves and a forest floor that's just starting to wake up. The whole composition is very smooth and rounded, eventually leading into a dry, musky wood base that feels clean and soft. If you’re a fan of Le Labo’s Bergamote 22, you’re going to really like this. It hits a very similar mark but at a much more approachable price point. It also reminds me quite a bit of Versace Man Eau Fraiche, just without that weird starfruit note and less wood, making it feel a bit more refined and brighter.

This was my favourite of the three, opening to a quite feminine citrus, quite heavy and a bit reminiscent of a citronella candle you would get to ward off the bugs in the garden at night!, an underlying sweetness that I would have guessed vanilla but I don't see it in the notes which is surprising. Overall, It just reminded me of sitting in the garden on a humid summer evening, a clean scent that is quite sheer and close to the skin. If you're someone who doesn't like a 'loud' perfume, but something more subdued and delicate, this is for you. I think it would be a safe blind buy, id give it a 7/10.

Of the moss trio this is my fav, but only because they lean slightly increasingly masculine so this one is the most unisex I could wear. Did not expect to like it, sounds quite basic, but so well done. I immediately get bergamot and musk and just a hint of oakmoss and juniper giving it crispiness and freshness. In the "middle" moss expressive there is a stronger accent on petitgrain and to me some patchouli, and the + is the most woody and dry in the drydown. Now very curious to explore the rest of Commodity collection, the concept is great!

This is so soft, calm, green, earthy, airy. Like what the deep, blue, misty morning would smell like in the heart of the Appalachian Mountains... I say that because I live here and I grew up smelling this greenness and freshness. It’s quiet and meditative, a little dirty yet spring-watery. A hike in the woods before the sun comes up in early April. I don’t gravitate toward green fragrances, but there’s something about this that keeps me coming back to sniff it... 8.5/10

I really enjoyed this one, it’s so fresh and clean. Very green and earthy initially, fading to a light musk over time. It reminds me very much of sitting in a garden on a humid summer evening, with a citronella candle burning nearby. It’s not a loud perfume by any means, sitting very close to the skin, but it does last well in that personal space. I’m not usually a fan of very green fragrances, but this one just keeps drawing me back. I find it very calming and airy.

I like it and green scents aren’t my usual scent choice. I do prefer gold, paper and milk over this though. It’s fresh, airy, green, citrusy and bright. I find it comforting and refreshing. I think it would be a good scent to use for aromatherapy. Not sure what green or citrus scents are used for, but it is uplifting.

Bought the exploration kit and this is mine and my girlfriends favorite scent from the whole kit, it’s truly unisex, So fresh and bright, such a simple pleasure. I love citrus fragrances so i may be biased but moss - is definitely the best of the three mosses

Forrest fairies twinkling about on a summer morning. The bergamot and musk keeps this bright with an equal balance to the green notes. Has a tea quality. This one is the most unisex-slightly feminine leaning out of the moss range.

The notes listed by fragrantica here are wrong, they belong to Moss+ (Moss Bold). This is Moss- (Moss Personal). The correct notes are: Bergamot Iso E Super Musk Petitgrain Eucalyptus cedarwood Amber

That's pretty: musk smooths down the green and citrus notes. I may try an expressive one for more grass 🤔 Update: tried Bergamot by LL. Definitely more quality material and less headache inducing.

The opening is quite sharp and citrusy, but the dry down is amazing. The petitgrain is super refreshing yet airy, as if you’ve been relaxing in the garden all day.

This is a really nice citrus. Familiar, comforting and pleasant. The most citrusy of the three Moss scents. It is very light though, fades quickly.

Just smelled something similar but not as much headache inducing as this one: Salt&Stone Bergamot&Hinoki body mist

Citrus and petitgrain! Sharp and earthy, but the perfect mossy scent. I imagine being buried alive in this.

Smells fresh and clean. Reminds me of lemon balm.

this is the most citrusy of the three Mosses. very herbal and green, like a spa giving you a foot soak with essential oils and herbs. it's got that synthetic barely-there note also present in Milk- and strongly in Paper-, i still don't know what it is, iso e super or ambroxan? but it solidifies this as one of the Personal range. i feel like this perfume doesn't really suit me, but maybe for my bedroom scent. still detectable on me after 2 1/2 hours which is a pleasant surprise given it's a Personal.

Only after smelling this did I notice that the expressive version has a spiciness in the opening that this doesn't. Other than that it smells very similar to that one, but maybe a bit even more citrusy and with a hint of sweetness that the expressive also doesn't have in my opinion. I know it's supposed to be a very subtle scent but within an hour it completely dissapeared from paper and from my skin as well, so I felt I couldn't really actually smell the dry down.

maybe today's just not my day, but when I sprayed this on my wrist I got a fleeting few minutes of lovely light citrus, a brief hit of mossy green, and now it's just musk. Nice light musk, but that's it. I've had this on for maybe 15-20 minutes, and I'm already disappointed. Maybe I should have gone for the regular Moss rather than Moss-, but it was a travel size on clearance so I'm not out much. Wanted more of that green!

Breakdown of notes (as I am writing this) is different on the company's website so will go with what is there not here. This trio is not fully consistent. Moss Expressive is more on a grapefruit note, Moss Bold more on the oakmossy note. Moss Personal is somewhere in-between and significantly toned down. Less grapefruity, more like blood orange sweetness. In the end leans more towards oakmoss.

Smells like a free afternoon. Where nothing really happens. You’re there by yourself, maybe working in your garden. Fresh but not exactly clean. Not powerful enough to have haters, not basic enough to be enjoyed by everyone. It’s a very familiar scent, comes also in cheaper bottles. But it gives a pleasingly familiarity. I would not buy full size. It’s not my favorite from Commodity.

The Moss series varies the most for me, compared to the other Commodities. I prefer this personal one to expressive and bold, it smells like green unripe citrus, bright and energizing.

The name moss, and the note, kinda made me avoid it, but this is not bad. Juniper berries may be adding more herbal tone to it, though I am not sure.

Citrus, musk, and green. A fresh outdoorsy scent. Not as mossy as I would like. Kind of smells like lemon wood polish/Pledge.

I guess if you want to smell like you splashed on Bombay Saphire gin, go ahead.

I liked this until I made the connection to Versace Eau Fraiche (which just reminds me of bad times) so this is actually the only scent from the exploration kit I don't quite like. It smells nice, like kind of sharp and zesty citrus. For me it leans more masculine but I girl could pull this off too under the right circumstances. It also smells interesting mixed with Gold+ I would say if you've smelled Pacifica Tuscan blood orange, this is similar to that except instead of orange it's bergamot citrusy.

The same ingredients as others in this collection, just varying amounts of citrus v. patchouli. This was a tough wear until it settled.

Testing notes: from discovery sample set. When I first sprayed this I had an overwhelming sense of deja vu and I could not figure out what Moss- reminded me of. But I knew the scent. I'd smelled something very similar to this before. Then it hit me: Dior Escale a Portofino. I had went through a bottle of it several years back and really enjoyed it in the dead of summer. I looked up the notes and sure enough, there's lots of overlap. Bergamot, petitgrain, juniper berries, and musk are common in both. I also get a little woodiness in Moss- even though it's not listed. I wish I had a bottle of Escale a Portofino still so I could compare, in person, but this absolutely smells like what I remember of that fragrance. It's fresh, citrus-y but without that "cleaning product" smell that some green citrus scents can have. Definitely unisex. Lovely. I'm not confident staying power will be great, but we'll see. This are just thoughts from my first sampling.

Top note is billed as citrus and what you see is what you get. Nobody should be shocked about smelling bergamot when it’s right there on the tin. I smell the juniper and oak moss beneath the citrus just fine but I do wish there was slightly more aromatic oak moss - too much citrus gives me a headache. If you’re a fan of Aqua di Parma you’ll love this. Lasts roughly 3-4 hrs in a very intimate bubble which, again, is why this is Moss-.

I loved the Moss sample so much in my discovery kit, I thought it would be really hard to decide which moss one to get after comparing the +,-. Not the case. They are all VERY different, which is a good thing IMO. The Moss - I get Iso E added which takes away from the depth, but still nice if you were on the cusp with the expressive version, you might like this one more.

A very light Not a Perfume kind of thing; faint hint of white musk and wood, no real notes stand out and its very sheer, but pleasant. A little woody, but I don’t get patchouli at all. Overall I like this, but it’s so very sheer. Reminds me a lot of Not a Pefume or Anyway. It's a super sheer, faintly clean, not-really-a-scent type of synthetic pleasantry.

A coy blend of sharp petitgrain, juniper berry, musk. Barely there, as in spray and sniff and sniff some more, looking for the scent on where you sprayed, only to find there is barely one. I get they wanted this to be a "personal" fragrance that doesn't venture more than an inch beyond my person, but come on.

I adore this, but I think it's a bit overpriced for the longevity and projection it has (coming from someone who hates intense, beast perfumes, but this is faint). If I find it at a good price, I'll get it for sure, though. It's my perfect out-of-the-shower scent.

I haven't tried the other Moss iterations, but this reminds me of a hybrid between Bergamote 22 and Thin Wild Mercury's Zuma 1975. It's fresh, green, and citrusy. I like it a lot, but I wished that it lasted a bit longer.

Smells a lot like D&G Light Blue, just not as... tangy? Not so sweet yellow lemon, more like a vague crystalline citrus note (but knowing perfumery, it’s bergamot). It’s not bad but I prefer Light Blue’s scent.

Smells like straight up lemons. The whole lemon, the juice, the seeds, the rind, and the dirt. That's it. There's not moss here, just lemons.
