Moss

This was my introduction to the house of Commodity and I was pretty pleased with it. Now that my decant is finished, I will most likely at the very least pick up the travel size (if not a full bottle since it is on the very affordable end of niche). More on that later. This one opens with an awesome bergamot mixed with super lush, almost wet greens. A little spicy. I've been feeling very into this type of fragrance lately and this hits the spot. It never really loses that showered rainforest smell but gains some mossy notes with hints of orange. It's awesome and very natural. I could also see eucalyptus as I get a slight cooling sensation to my nose. The drydown has some slightly dry woods and musk to add to the mix. I also get the TINIEST wisp of amber which ties this whole thing together with a great bow. This scent paints a picture of a place in my mind. I imagine sitting in a post-rain forest surrounded by cedars and some sweet florals, leaves on the trees that are super ripe. Just a lush, mossy forest. It definitely evokes a feeling of calmness and I love it. The performance is very average and it's something you might get a whiff of in very close distance. Doesn't last that long, maybe 3-4 hours. Unisex, maybe slightly masculine, all ages. Good all year, even in the office as it's not going to invade anyone's space. I prefer this one for sitting at home and relaxing. It's just the vibe I get from it and I feel cozier in this one than I do almost any other. Love!

I received this as a sample spray. I initially tested Le Labo Bergamote 22 (B22) and liked it very much. I am now doing a side by side comparison due to the suggested similarity. They both have a similar citrusy opening. Commodity Moss (CM) has a greener more sour feel to it from the moss, whereas the greenness from the vetiver is more subdued in B22. There is a stronger presence of the orange blossom floral accord in the B22. After the drydown, CM has more woodiness. A distinct cedar note lingers a little bit longer with the CM. Overall, I am putting this lower on the love scale than the Le Labo B22. I like B22 better for the slight sweetness of the orange blossom without the sourness that is in the CM. CM is close enough for me to wonder if I would pay so much for B22 when I could get this instead. Neither lasts too long, but I would spritz this on to go run errands. I get a solid 3 hours where it fills a room during the first half hour, but then it becomes an arm's length projection. I wish it would last longer. I am not sure I would commit to a full bottle, but I would go for a mini or a decant to see if it could hold my attention.

Sudden fresh happy burst of citrusy opening, which feels like a magic sparkle that appears from nowhere - the fairy just arrived. She's glistening, emerging from the light, and the light seeds are dancing around her. I feel like in the forest on a very sunny day, the light pierces through the canopy of trees. This forest brings a sense of comfort and safety. I'm lying down in bright, soft, gorgeous-smelling moss. Subtle orange note emerges, delicate and unnoticeable first - just like faeries. Fainting quite quickly, as suddenly she appeared. Sun fickle dancing on the forest floor, or a grove, or a magical gorge. I'm burying my face in moss, becoming one with the forest floor. Soft feminine. On my skin, drydown very quickly - the fae disappears, but the forest remains—beautiful and delicate scent. Makes me very happy, but content and tranquil. A perfect scent that's reminiscent of a quiet day on my own in the woods - only me, the light, birds singing - and of course, the faeries. Will deffo buy a full bottle. An absolute must if you're into oakmoss and green scents with hints of citrus. Really enjoy this interpretation! <3

Moss is fresh, clean, and a bit woody, with excellent performance in the summer heat. I was wasting time in a department store, visiting the fragrance counter and slowly walking trough the men's department. I noticed that a man was following me throughout the store and I was getting a bit uncomfortable. I remember wondering if this guy was a loss prevention officer who thought I may be shoplifting, or if he was interested in me in a "different" way. He finally closed in and looking very embarrassed asked what cologne I was wearing. He told me that he could smell it drifting behind me everywhere I went. I told him what it was and we talked about the commodity brand of fragrances for a while because he had never heard of them. He went on his way, and left me with a really nice feeling for the rest of the day. I loved Moss before this encounter but this made the fragrance even more special to me. Every time I wear Moss, I think of that man and it puts a smile on my face. I hope he got it and enjoys it as much as I do.

This was a fun blind buy from tjmaxx at a nice clearance price below $30. After seeing this bottles fetch $100 that was a nice find! So box presentation was a nice first impression and has a booklet even. The bottle is a nice thick glass, lovely color. Clean presentation. Heavy cap nice quality. So onto the scent? Well let's say this was added top my top favorites collection. It's so different. It's very earthy and green smelling. Imagine a green deey morning going through a forest meadow. It literately is perfectly blended to feel like that. Leaning a little masculine but seems unisex. The longevity is decent and strength is decent. I love this stuff and don't shut from spraying heavy either. It's a nice smooth scent. I can definitely recommend this one and so happy I found it. Shame commodity is gone for good.

Bought a 10ML Travel Spray of Commodity Moss from Sephora. WOW just beautiful super fresh spring time in a bottle,though I wore it on summer evenings also. Initial spray a luscious quality bergamot hits you right in the face(in a nice way lol) followed by the Elemi oil note that incidentally is used in healing of stress,clearing of sinus problems etc. So a slight medicinal vibe like a real plant similar to tea Tree Oil (same family) followed by the healing oil eucalyptus,orange and the vital note oakmoss on drydown. Remarkable scent but I just wish it lasted a little longer I get 4-5 hours but don't mind reapplying at all. Mood enhancing will lift your spirits!

If you love Bergamote 22 but not the price tag, look no further. I love this because it smells so similar, but not at all cheap or like any sort of clone house. I just adore it. I will say, the dry down on Bergamote is better-- I liken the Bergamote drydown to a piano player who plays quickly and effortlessly yet if you listen closely, you can parse out every note played. Moss, on the contrary, dries down into something much more blended; much more of a singular note, but a pleasant one. As a Bergamote 22 lover, while not entirely the same (but how could it be), this is the best affordable alternative I can recommend.

Okay WOW! I'm normally a warm amber/gourmand lover. I did not expect to love a fragrance this fresh, green and mossy! This is a top favourite of mine. This fragrance is so uplifting, mossy and happy. The bergamot gives it a nice citrus note but the moss and wood note grounds it perfectly so it's well rounded but unique. The ONLY issue is that it doesn't last more than an hour or two on me but this fragrance was full bottle worthy to me. I'm obsessed. I don't mind having to prep a bit to make it last longer with creams or over spraying. Definitely give it a try if the notes call to you.

If you’ve smelled Commodity’s “Rain”, this strikes me as a darker version of that. Upon first spraying it on my skin I wasn’t exactly drawn to it. It smelled biting (in a black pepper type of way) and a little acidic. But after a moment, it settled into a very pleasant eucalyptus/cedar scent. If I really concentrate I can find the sweeter amber notes but they aren’t at the forefront. Overall I would say this strikes me as more male, but the presence of the amber/cashmere as it develops really softens it into a woodsy, cozy, unisex fragrance. Very green and outdoorsy but still warm.

Commodity has an impressive collection of fragrances and Moss (expressive version) is by far my favorite from that house. It is a green freshie that smells wonderful from beginning to end. Some green scents can smell too earthy which is really off-putting to my nose but Moss isn't like that at all. The earthy and woody notes are well blended, making it more mass appealing. Office/work-friendly for sure. I get good performance too; it lasts about 8+ hours on my skin with four or five sprays.

This is my favourite from the discovery set I got. It is a really nice interpretation of moss, really green and earthy and has a damp mustiness to it but it's delicate enough to be wearable. It really feels like a forest walk on a damp morning to me. I will say that every scent including this one that I tried from Commodity has this weird almost fizzy, la croix-like quality to it but it kind of works here. Piss poor longevity unfortunately, wouldn't consider more than a mini/travel size.

I love it. When I tested it first, I immediately knew it was for me, but I was a bit disappointed by its longevity and sillage. Now, after some time and after putting it on a few times, I think I changed my mind. Longevity and sillage could still be improved but it's definitely not as bad as I first thought. Will definitely gonna get a full bottle, I can't stop smelling myself. I adore the earthy notes. It's 100 % my favourite Commodity scent.

I think this is great stuff. Soft and woody, very natural smelling, I could see this being one of my go to everyday scents. I'm really enjoying the Commodity scents in general, Gold (white collection) being my favorite so far. As a woman, I find both the black and white label scents easy to wear. If this is what the previous reviewer thinks musty butthole smells like, he's got some interesting olfactory perceptions going on. Just sayin'.

It’s like the crisp air in the Fall-a little herbal, woody, slightly sweet. My husband got the travel spray of this and I just adore it on him. It will be perfect for the slow transformation in the south from Summer to Fall. I am really loving all the Commodity fragrances I am sampling right now. It reminds me (thought they are in no way the same) of the Bath and Body Works scent Sweater Weather. This fragrance makes me long for fall.

This is very fresh and a pleasant way to start the morning. I purchased the Commodity cocktail kit and really liked most of them. This one is my favorite. I only would not purchase it because of poor longevity. I felt that way about most from Commodity except for Book and Gold, which both last a very long time. If this did last longer I would happily purchase a full size bottle. Definitely unisex.

I have been wearing Moss for two days and I have had quite a few compliments on it from both men and women. I find it to be a good balance of feminine and masculine. I didn't find it to be woody. It's citrusy with a hint of sweetness. Seems aquatic to me. I like this fragrance quite a bit. It's easy to wear, is subtle but still noticeable throughout the day to the wearer.

This is the only one I've had so far and I love it. It's a unique original beautiful fragrance. Well blended woody citrus notes. I absolutely love this fragrance and can't wait to experience the others. Also the staying power is wonderful. I seriously thought this was unisex though. I've smelled both unisex and female fragrances that smell more masculine than this ●_●

I love this so so much!!! I love moss! Moss notes are great on my skin chemistry and turn so beautiful and sweet. Gorgeous gorgeous smell, the wood and bergamot also shine through for me. I will definitely pick up a full bottle and try the - and + versions when I can afford to!

I like to spray this on my sleeve and just smell it throughout the day, like a little forest bath. It smells like the ferny forest floor in the Pacific Northwest. I don't want to smell like this for other people, but I love to smell it for my own aromatherapy purposes.

mossy, citrusy, aquatic, and comforting. truly unisex imo. this may be my favorite of all the expressives from commodity, i just cannot stop going back to it! it's giving "morning-dew-and-moss-covered cottage of the good witch who lives in the forest" -- i'm obsessed.

at $145 its waaaaay overpriced for the performance and longevity. which is unfortunate cuz it smells great. nothin overly exciting or original about it. just a simple, sold freshe. Moss Expressive is probably my personal favorite of the scent spaces.

reminds me of being depressed in the fall as it rains in kentucky. then going to couple up with someone as you watch bojack horseman and wish you were someone else. or, it just smells like bergamot, cashmere, and oakmoss...

This might have been my favorite scent in the exploration kit, although I liked a good amount of them! Of the 3 Moss subtypes, this one was my favorite. A nice green scent with a healthy dose of bergamont. I love it!!

I found Commodity Moss to be a really great Spring/Summer scent. My only complaints is that I wish it had some real oakmoss and, therefore, performed better; lasted only about 3-1/2 hours and sat softly on my skin.

Similar to bergomont 22, just much much better at a fraction of the price. One of the best citrus woody scents out there to date. This is way to slept on and I hope it gets out there more

Fascinated by this smell, so interesting, fresh, and green. People definitely notice when I wear this and have complimented how nice it smells. Sample this, smells great on a man.

Oh my goodness this is scrumptious. Scratch what I said before, THIS is moss. This is wonderfully green and springy and encompassing. Perfect for a spring day. Splendid.

There's something very fresh and sparkling about it, like standing next to a waterfall in a pine forest on a chilly rainy day.

A go-to masc scent for me! Fresh and green, I love the bergamot here, it feels woodsy and earthy when it dries down.

Almost exactly like Le Labo Bergomote 22. Maybe a little less juicey

Lovely Scent but projection really disappoints me.

Given how Commodity is doing the whole personal (-), expressive, and bold (+) thing, it makes sense to compare them side by side and provide one review for all three. While I prefer to test blind it's hard not to notice the names, but I haven't looked up the suggested notes or read any of their literature. With MOSS the expectation is green and earthy. I find all three to have less of an earthy feel, and more or a damp green plant feel with a bit of morning dew coolness. Minus opens up more sweet and citrusy, with a mild coolness. The expressive has an element of citrusy but not as bright with a tinge of herbaceousness. And the plus shifts to an ambery opening with a hint of wood. All three are lovely and the green element is like a fresh tea leaf. This makes me think of bright green moss in the morning, where water droplets coat the vegetation. Moving through them in sequence you do very much get the sense of approaching, walking into, and walking deeper into a moist forest. Looking at the notes now the bergamot in the minus stands out the most with the green laying underneath. For the expressive, it is the orange blossom and eucalyptus that add some nice layering that is not (as) present in the minus and plus. Similarity, woodsy tones are added but they are not obvious. The plus clearly adds a resinous bass, a bit more wood, but stays within its roots. The oakmoss is clearly the scent keeping all three tied together. Their overall effect providing a more clean and fresh damp forest vibe that is pleasant and unisex. You could argue the plus begins to lean a bit masculine, but only such. The longevity was ok. Not bad but not as expected. Only plus hung around a bit longer. As much as I like MOSS, I can't decide if I just like the fragrance for myself or just want to smell it around me or where I live.

Sticking with the fresh theme today, and I really enjoyed this one. Much like Moss-, it’s very green and earthy initially, with lots of bright citrus, fading to a woody musk over time. In between there’s a good hit of orange blossom. The floral here is the main difference for me between this and Moss-. Both remind me very much of sitting in a garden on a humid summer evening, with a citronella candle burning nearby. I was hoping for a bit more strength from the Expressive, but it’s still a very quiet, intimate scent that sits close to the skin. Interestingly, this one doesn’t seem to last as well on me as Moss-, fading away almost completely after only a couple of hours. I would say this is a true unisex scent, perfect for days when you want something clean and fresh without being overpowering. In terms of longevity, though, I’d probably plump for the Personal variant.

True to it's name, there's no mistaking this for anything other than moss. Fresh, effervescent citrus opening reminiscent of a 7up soda. Black pepper middle notes follow and then dries down to mossy and woody. After some time, develops a slight sweetness, more noticeable on clothing. Definitely unisex. Projection isn't too strong, great for low-fragrance settings. I purchased a bottle of Moss after trying Commodity's discovery set. This scent felt to me the most mainstream, and reminded me of D&G Light Blue Men's, but more sophisticated. I fell in love with the 7up/Sprite-like opening and wish it lasted a bit longer before the pepper took over. Ultimately not for me, it lacks the flirtatiousness of Light Blue, so now I use it as a layering frag. And wouldn't you know it, it layers beautifully with Light Blue.

It opens with a bright and refreshing note of bergamot backed by white florals. Specifically, my noise picks out orange blossoms. I've spent time in Italy and on the Amalfi coast, bergamot is used in many cosmetic products such as soaps and lotions. The bergamot in Moss reminds me of that. As it dries down, the oakmoss and cedar become more pronounced giving it a wood feel. Overall it's a pleasant citrus/wood scent that is a bit reminiscent of Bergamonte 22 by Le Labo. This leans more unisex and it's something I would wear casually in the spring and summer months. This could hold up well in the high heat without becoming too cloying.

The Variations of Moss were the ones in the exploration set that I liked the most, This one has a beautiful citrusy opening, like sunshine peeking through the trees after its been raining, its definitely a unisex scent for sure in my opinion, there's a vein of cedar that constantly runs through the scent and a definite 'green-ness' that reminds me of damp moss. Its a refreshing scent that I think most people could appreciate, and it lasts a good while on the skin. Id give this one a 6/10 as I prefer Moss - A nice overall scent, that I wouldn't be mad if I got a full bottle of!

A true unisex fragrance. Excellent for spring and summer, and especially for time spent outdoors in green spaces. A good pick for outdoor summer weddings in woodsy and/or remote locales. It's a bit too bright for regular nighttime wear, and I sometime find myself wishing it were a bit loamy and musing that Commodity should add "light" and "dark" dimensions to their "-" and "+" scheme. As others have said, this is more affordable substitute for fans of Le Labo Bergamote 22 - by no means a 1:1 substitute, but it's a laudable approximation if that's what you're after.

I was excited about this because I love oakmoss, bergamot (chypre if I can get it!), elemi and woodsy scents, but I didn't get a huge mossy feel. It was nice, but only okay. I was left smelling rather pleasant, but unmoved. I think I must embody what PumpkinPie, mentioned in their review about this fragrance on Basenotes, in that I prefer that "true moss dirt smell" when I'm looking for something "mossy". I love the earthiness of it, and felt a but let down by the expectations of the name and notes. This one is not very earthy, damp woods, inky, dusty at all. 3/5.

I liked the top notes of orange leaf / petitgrain, also jasmine. 15 min later its a slighly sweet mossyness. Then after 1-2 hours a light but warm musky woodyness with no silage only smells right on skin. Got as sample, i like it a bit but the nice topnotes are so shortlived and the mossy musk later on a bit too boring. Edit: ok so I might have been a little harsh. This scent is growing on me like I was a forrest floor. Yes the top notes die quick, but the cedar and foresty freshness last about 5 hours. Its pleasant, but still not swoon worthy. ⛤⛤⛤

Moss is a spicy, woody and citrus scent with a wet green earthy vibe and a bit of dry sweetness. It is a well blended and safe scent. Meaning that it can be warn for any occasion. It is marketed to men but I can see women wearing this one as well. Moss can be worn in casual attire or in a sports coat. I get good projection for the first 3 hours, then Moss becomes a skin scent for the next several hours on me. Bottom line: I see this best suited as an office scent for someone that enjoys woody citrus scents. If that is you, try a sample.

This smells nice, if but a bit like a well-dressed teenage boy. It reminds me a lot of the baby cologne my mom used to put on my little brothers called Nenuco, and it wasn't surprising when she liked Moss, too. It's very clean and citrus-y. It feels like the masculine counterpart to cupcake and cotton candy scented perfumes. I still like it! Just not for me. I would give the sample I have to one of my younger brothers if it wasn't for the fact that they gifted me the Commodity discovery kit lmao

I agree with ConsumerThis: Commodity Moss (as well as Commodity Bergamot) does share some similarities with Le Labo's Bergamot 22. Because of that (and because it is way cheaper!) I don't feel the need to purchase Bergamot 22. With Moss I get a fresh, woodsy and clean fragrance that lasts 8-12 hours on my skin. I would see this fragrance as a safe scent for work / office as well as a great casual / weekend perfume during those warmer months of the year. 8.5 / 10.

I don't get much moss from this, starts out very citrusy, then turns very green, and stays that way on the dry down. Overall it's a refreshing and bright green scent, great for a spring day, and unisex. I purchased a Commodity discovery set with all the fragrances and all the scent spaces, this one is the one I tried first and the atomiser is so good, even on the small 2 ml sample bottles, and also the booklet and test strips it comes with is so nice.

on the pros side, to me this is a true unisex fragrance! that being said, while certainly green, this is far too sharp and peppery to really convey the soft, damp muskiness of moss. its too apothecary and not enough forest after rain/wet dirt. not bad but definitely not worth spending $155 dollars on especially with the lack of longevity. can't lie after seeing startoonish say its giving high end bug spray that's all i can think of......

Moss- D&G light blue, very noughties vibe and I love it! Would use it as a every day spring/summer scent, gym scent, great longevity, better than D&G Moss lively opening and dry down, this is the bottle I would get in full size, stays fresh for hours Moss+ leaning masculine, on the dry down it smells a bit like red Lacoste or explorer platinum. Will be giving my sample to my partner, its a very pleasant scent

Smells very nice for summer, definitely unisex territory... to me this smells like a rounder more green Bond No. 9 Scent of Peace / D&G light blue for her... This some how actually works on me which is nice(since I’m a dude) It treads carefully right on the line of unisex... since this company is discontinued, Bond No. 9 SOP will be a good one to get the sameness vibe if you care to..

At first I didn't like it, but once the top notes stopped being as sharp I started to enjoy it. A very earthy, green vibe that feels a bit more masculine, but still unisex. Not sure if this is something I'd reach for often, but I don't dislike it! That said, it doesn’t project very well or last very long, similar to Paper from Commodity.

At first impression I wasn't impressed, but as the weather is growing warmer I'm starting to get the appeal for Moss. Cool and refreshing without the harsh bite of aldehyde and encompassed by woods without losing the sweetness of bergamot. It's clean, unisex, and simple enough to wear in the heat.

I generally really struggle with green/aquatic/fresh notes going full Men’s Shower Gel on me but this has enough going on to carry those notes that it really works? As a woody/spicy person who never quite finds the vibe in spring, I’ll be digging this back out in a few months for sure.

I thought Moss was alright. To me it smells like a mild aquatic scent more than a woody scent. I am more into the woody scents than the aquatics. I really got no cedar or amber out of this. I do love the Commodity line all their scents smell natural to me.
